I'm grateful that this was a work lunch - I wasn't paying nor did I pick the venue. I'm so glad that I didn't have to spend my hard earned money here however, this is an hour of my life that I would like to get back. The sushi - what is up with the purple rice? Is it infused with red beans or something? It just made the roll look unappetizing. When I bit into some of the various rolls we ordered, I wanted to gag. The rice was lukewarm, dry, and grainy. The sashimi topping was gummy and flavorless. One of the rolls had a tempura shrimp and they left the tail on, covered it in tempura batter, and buried it in the rice. That entire piece of the roll was inedible. The teppanyaki - very average. Our chef was nice, cracked good jokes, and mastered the basic teppanyaki tricks. Again, the gag reflex kicked in at the first bite of the fried rice. I could taste a hint of the cooking rag used to wipe down the teppanyaki grill after the previous use and it didn't taste like a fresh clean rag, either. The shrimp was grilled well, with a hint of lemon and garlic. They were gracious enough to remove the tails from this shrimp. On the plus side, this place smelled very cleaned for a greasy teppanyaki grill and they had Sapporo and Kirin on tap. I thoroughly enjoyed the beer. The food? Went here for the first time and had Teppanyaki for dinner. Ordered the chicken and it was cooked perfect, the rice is delicious and full of flavor and the veggies are big chunks of onion, carrots, broccoli and squash. The server was great and very attentive, kept drinks full and was quick to respond. The cooks were fun and very entertaining, more entertaining than any of the other teppanyaki bars in Bakersfield. Always heard negative things about this place but we decided to try them out anyways....glad I did! The lady at the front has a dry personality but everyone else was great, would recommend this place to anyone! I lived in Okinawa Japan for 2 years. This isn't the Teppanyaki I came to know and love. I took my wife there on our anniversary. It is showy and high energy (which they didn't do much in Japan), but they served fried rice from the grill vs nicely cubed potatoes. Really? Fried rice? I'm pretty sure that's more of a Chinese dish. I don't think I ever saw fried rice in Japan. The Teppanyaki was pedestrian. I came back this year by myself and ordered the Yellow Fin Sashimi and Chicken Teriyaki with miso soup. The sashimi came out first. The portion was generous, served on a bed of fresh finely shredded daikon radish with wasabi and ginger on the side . The fish was fresh smelling (not fishy) and expertly prepared. The flavor was mild and pleasant while the texture reflected its freshness; firm with the right amount of give to the bite. After the sashimi came the miso soup. Hot with fresh spring onion and a little tofu. Not too salty. Then came the Chicken Teriyaki served atop onion and sprouts all sizzling on a hot cast iron plate with a small bowl of white rice. The rice was served its authentic Japanese "not quite cooked right to the American palette slightly dry" style. The chicken was overdone and a little tough, though not completely dry. Honestly I had better Teriyaki Chicken from street vendors in Nago for 300 yen (roughly $2.70 at the time). This entree really is an example of bad Japanese street faire. I've eaten a lot Japanese street food. Put another way, it was some awkward version of "Japanese Fajitas". For $35 out the door, I'd rather have ordered more sashimi for my money. I'll come back for the sashimi. Service was good, not over-solicited, but prompt with the refills (no free refills in Japan, so they've got that). read more

Went for a friend's birthday on Saturday, reservations were at 7:30pm, we weren't seated until 9pm. The waitress Irene was REALLY nice and attentive and the chef we had was Brandon who was fun and kept us laughing the whole time! Only thing besides the long wait time to be seated, was who I assumed was possible the owner or manager came over twice and nonchalantly snatched THREE pieces of cheesecake after we sung happy birthday. I am unsure if she was drunk or if it was a cultural difference on what is acceptable behavior but I felt it was extremely rude; also on our bill was only myself, my husband and my 7 year old and it was like $135. ***Really really bad service***The two times that we have been there during lunch it takes them 20 min alone to get us our drinks. Mind you these drinks are water. The first time I was on my lunch break and let them know before hand that I was limited on time. It still took 45 min to get our salads and drinks out. Our sushi never made it out to the table before I had to excuse myself to go back to work. The manager came out and gave me a 20% discount card and apologized, so I thought I would give them another chance. Second time around unfortunately was no different. This time I passed on the sushi and decided to go with the "Express teryaki lunch special" thinking it would be faster. I let the waiter know as soon as I arrived that I was there for the special and put in my drink order. 20 minutes later he comes over to the table and says " I'm sorry what did you order?" Needless to say my food never made it out during the 50 minutes I was there. There was only 3 other parties of 2 in the restaurant and two servers. I didn't expect that at all. I'm rating this 4 stars because 1. The sushi tastes fresh 2. If our server was gone, someone else was available to help us. 3. We didn't wait for a table and our food and drinks came out quickly. I ate dinner on a Tuesday night and my party came there for sushi. We ordered a variety of sushi rolls, which tasted great, and we did not have to wait long for our food and there was plenty of available seating. The dinner sushi seemed expensive (not the rolls), and although they had a variety of fish, I wanted Uni (sea urchin), they no longer have that on the menu. I will say that our server was kind, and definitely trying to be helpful. Sake bombs are normally taken with warm sake, but he insisted it was taken with cold sake, which means it is extremely cold while you are chugging the beer with the cold sake in your cup. I won't make that mistake again. When we asked for suggestions on appetizers he kept recommending tempura (we ended up just getting edamame) and gave us a fork because he thought we asked for one. I understand the people at our table looked white, and maybe tempura is a popular choice, but we wanted sushi. We are not scared of raw fish. We are not scared of eating with chopsticks. We had very bad service. We had a reservation @7:30pm and didn't get seated til 9:00pm. They seat two groups that came after us before us. When we asked the owner why we haven't been seated she states someone had mad a mistake. Never once did they come over to us and let us know what had happened. So as the time kept passing by and we kept asking about when we would be seated the owner kept ignoring us. Now mind me we had a group of 20 ppl. Once the finally did seat us they tried to squeeze all 20 ppl on one side and told us we had to put the two kid's we had with us in the corner.. which by this time we was pissed . They had the worst service I have ever had in my 36yrs of life. Never will I come her again. It was my niece birthday and they had her in tears because of how rude the manager was. after telling my friend i would come visit for the past three years, i finally decided to make the long drive up to bakersfield from inland LA. we came here on my friend's recommendation because he thought they served "pretty good sushi compared to the other restaurants.". this place is half teppanyaki half sushi, with a side of sports bar. i guess when you're trying to keep a restaurant in bakersfield afloat, you can't really afford to specialize too much. i'm not a big fan of teppanyaki because i don't think you can ever really be blown away by how it tastes. so we chose the sushi side. we ordered a shrimp+chicken yakitori combo platter along with several nigiri sushi. the sushi was surprisingly fresh and very generous in portion size, comparable in price and taste to your average LA sushi restaurant. the yakitori however, was less up to par. the chicken was overcooked and dry, but the shrimp was decent. my friend and i both agreed that the best part of the platter was actually the soybeans underlying the yakitori sticks rather than the shrimp/chicken itself. that's pretty sad. i recommend getting hot house sake with your meal. goes down smooth and tastes ohsoyummy. read more

Our group came over here the other night after our original restaurant had too long of a wait time. So this is a teppanyaki place where the chef dude cook the food in front of you and flip the spatula and other tricks for entertainment. Apparently everyone says to get Alfredo, but we didn't get him. Our chef was ok, but I was hungry and just want my food hahaha. Anyway, this place is a bit overpriced, but I guess you pay for the entertainment. If you just want a basic teriyaki thing, you can probably get it cheaper and more tasty elsewhere. Even the sushi prices seem to be more expensive than other places I've been too in town. There is a section with just regular tables so you do have an option to get the food without going through the teppanyaki show. They do make a mean adios though. read more

I love teppanyaki because it's like getting a show with your meal. Our chef was great and very entertaining!! The food was delicious! The restaurant had a very fun atmosphere, and it appeared that the other tables were having just as much fun as we were! Beware the trick teriyaki bottle....lol!!! We ordered the Shrimp, and the ribeye, and both were fabulous. Our chef was also very accommodating to the other family at our table as one of them was allergic to soy sauce and he made sure that she got just as much food, and that it was safe for her to eat. We got here 15 minutes early like instructed by the owner so our group could be seated togethe. our appointment time was 9pm we were not seated until 9:45 pm great service to start out with. Ordered the New York Steak Teppanyak with miso soup and salad. The salad was tasty as well as the soup. It took about 45 mins to an hour before someone came to start the grill. And they do not send a chef until the most or all of the seats along the grill is full. The fried brown rice with egg was okay...not the best but I've definitely experienced better. The New York Steak was real small and it was over cooked a little. I also had the rainbow roll with a few kamikaze shots. Overall I would not go back to this place and the price of the food does not reflect the quality of it and/ or tricks the chef does. Host had a terrible attitude. We were told the wait time was going to be around 30 minutes but it turned into an hour. It was a long wait time but we were willing to wait because of the bar area. Although, once it was past the hour of waiting we were told by the rude host it was going to be 30 more minutes which was insane! One of the other host was trying to accommodate us but the other host was just being rude and not helpful. The rude host seem to be in charge because every time the other host would try to accommodate us she would stop her. She kept asking the same questions about how many people was in out party when we had made it very clear. We felt like they did not want to serve us some ended up leaving without being server and had waited for an hour and a half. NEVER going back! I do not recommend this place it's not big enough and they need a better ventilation system read more

Went here after not going for 9 years. Definitely not impressed. We were only a party of 2. We were seated quickly. I order a mai tai. Worse Mai tai I've ever had in my life. Tasted like a glass of grenadine with a splash of rum. Seats are cloth and grossly dirty. We felt extremely rushed. We were given boxes within the first 3 bites of our meal and asked if we wanted the ice cream that comes with the meal. Of course we do! They brought the ice cream immediately, at bite 4 of our dinner. My husband had to ask for a drink refill, I was never asked if I wanted a second cocktail, however I wouldn't have order another one. While we were still eating they asked if we wanted a bag for our boxes. WTH, obviously they wanted us to get the heck out of there. We were seated at 535 pm and left at 615 pm so it's not like we were taking our sweet time. Check was $70, definitely will never go back. I'd rather eat McDonald's! read more

Shogun quality has diminished, I've had dinner here many times before the pandemic and the food was good. I ordered the Cherashi and teriyaki plate. The sashimi was warm, and the albacore had a fishy taste to it, the teriyaki plate was at best s child's plate and not as described on the menu, I was informed the menu changed and had not been updated. The drink I ordered was good, Cadillac margarita. I complained about the food and was provided an apology. The meal and drink was a total of $50.00, substandard for an established restaurant. I have had the Tappan there and it was good. Seems that is the focus of this restaurant now. Went to Jin sushi afterwards, I have never been disappointed there. read more

I took 14 people in for dinner for a celebration. We filled one grill and the second grill had 3 extra seats. They literally made us wait knowing we had prior reservations and then sat three strangers with our party. They made us wait to fit three people to save another chef from cooking. Ok fine! NOT a huge problem, we made it work, not by choice, even though we barely go out still because covid so sitting strangers in our "dinner group" wasn't cool without asking. The worst part of the night was the waitress kept sending drinks to the other side saying we sent them and then coming saying they sent us a drink. Long story short 800.00 bill later not including a generous gratuity for both chefs of 50$ each, and 100$ each waitress, we were also charged for the STRANGERS food and drinks. Im so upset because it was like a con... they prob charged them for their food too. So they double charge if you dont notice and refund you if you do. Check your bill!!! Never coming back here again! First, They sat my family of four at a table of 10, instead of sitting us at a table that fit our family size. There were two tables available that sat 4. Second we ordered our food and they took FOREVER! We received 3 out of four plates we ordered after waiting over an hour. My husband ordered 2 sushi rolls and after an hour and a half he still had not received his food!!
