This review is not about the food. I was not about to risk getting food poisoning at this place, so this review will be short and sweet. We walked in, and I was willing to give it a try. The first thing that hit me was how dark and dingy it was. Then I was hit with a terrible smell--the restaurant just didn't smell clean. We reluctantly sat down, and before the waiter could leave with the water, we left, thanks to my fellow Yelpers! I saw several photos of roaches and video evidence. That was enough for me to walk out. On my way out, I happened to glance at the floor and saw a huge DEAD ROACH in the corner! Go ahead and cross this place off the list! I just moved from around the corner of the Katy location (the best one) to south Houston. I tried out the Pearland location for a second time since it was closer, as the first experience was underwhelming 2 years ago. Should've never circled back! On top of the rude white waitress, them opening 3 hours late --that they blamed it on a schedule mix up, I got VERY BAD FOOD POISONING !! I think it was from either the shrimp or filet mignon. The environment was nice!! Our waiter was charismatic and energetic, getting my kids engaged in their meal and drink options. However, once we received our spring roll appetizers it was downhill from there. The outside was crispy but the inside was mushy. We received our deluxe sushi order and I couldn't swallow it. The sushi was not fresh and tasted spoiled and nasty. We returned it and were only able to eat at the yakisoba noodles, mostly because the kids were so hungry and it didn't taste foul. When people ask me to flex, I just pretend I work at Sho-guns. But this is unrelated. This is one of those hyper westernized all American sushi hibachi places, with all the fanfare of a suburban sanitized experience. The food tastes good, the prices are high, the key is the experience. I don't like these massive corporate chains, and I don't love this kind of sushi either. I like mine from a back alley, freshly chopped by some person that really knows it and puts their heart into it. Anyway, for the experience, I give a 3 as usual. It pains me to write this, as I've enjoyed dining here a few times and usually they don't disappoint. Unfortunately, today I received mushy shrimp fried rice and crab puffs that tasted as though they were fried in burnt oil. I also waited a long time for my order, despite calling ahead, and had to tell two different staff members what I was waiting on. I tried calling to resolve the issue, but the phone kept going to voicemail. I'm not sure what went wrong today, but I hope they get things back on track. I'm still open to giving them another chance because everyone has off days; however, I'll probably wait a while before returning. We started with the gyoza, it was average tbh We ordered the boat and it did not disappoint. The chefs prepared it fairly quick despite the restaurant being busy for dinner. The sashimi slices were thick and cold. The nigiri and both rolls were good too. It says this feeds 3 but the two of us had a big appetite tonight. Shogun is one of two hibachi/teppanyaki/sushi spots in the Pearland area. It anchors one end of the Pearland Town Center. Their advantage is they have parking in the front as well as in the back. My family and I usually come through for atleast one birthday gathering a year. We always call ahead because we roll kind of deep and we want to make sure we have a grill to ourselves. Even when the restaurant doesn't look too busy, we always seem to have to wait to be seated. Other than that, the staff is friendly and the hibachi chefs are always a good time. I can only remember maybe one time where I have ordered a roll or something other than the hibachi. The hibachi experience is always fun. At this point, I'm sure I've seen all the showmanship and funny antics, but I enjoy it every time. The food is cooked right in front of you and always tastes the same. It's not out of this world, delicious food, but it is good. You come to places like this for the experience more than the food. The employees are not wearing masks. It was very slow when I went, so my party was able to sit wherever we wanted. Our server was nice; he engaged us with small talk. There was a lady on the floor who made sure our waters stayed full and cleared our table for us. The food is also good here. Okay so I looked at the Yelp reviews ahead of time, but I let my husband take the lead bc he looked at the Google reviews Long story short Yelp is more efficient! So we came in for my daughter's birthday and we were initially sat right across from a groups leftovers/trash. We asked to move, there was no one else in the hibachi room at the time but us. We moved to another section and asked for 2 booster seats for our toddlers and they were sticky! Even adjusting the chairs they were sticky as well Francisco our chef was great personality wise, but honestly the food was just okay... it wasn't seasoned very well. It pains me to write this because my granddaughter and I love the food. We were there on 3/18/2025 and I noticed something crawling, the owner (I guess) came over and killed it with his bare hand. I didn't really get to see what kind of bug it was but no more than five minutes later another one appeared, I was sure this time it was a roach. We told the waiter about it and he apologized and gave us another soy sauce bottle. We poured it out on the dish and there was STILL baby roaches but this time on the soy sauce plate. We told him again and he apologized and he gave us a new one but we just didn't want to use the soy sauce at all. The owner apologized with the most fake asian accent ever. If you have any concerns about covid or general cleanliness this is not the place to be. My bf and I popped in last night for a quick drink and appetizer while we awaited a call back from a restaurant that'd waitlisted us. We sat down at the bar and someone's dirty dishes and used mask were sitting within inches from us. We look up and the guy behind the bar (I think the owner or manager) was not wearing a mask at all and didn't seem to give a care in the world about it. He proceeded to walk all around the restaurant laughing and chatting up customers, all while, maskless. When he came back to the bar, my bf called him out on it and he said he couldn't breath with the mask on and further droned on with a horrible excuse for not wearing it. News flash sir, we all have trouble breathing with these things on but the rest of us do our part and just wear them, especially those working in a restaurant around people and more-so someone who appears to be a manager or owner of a dining establishment. He eventually put his mask back on reluctantly, mostly leaving his nose out when he thought we weren't looking. My bf and I ended up getting a call from the restaurant we were waiting on before our sushi roll app was ready so we finished our drinks and cancelled the roll. Probably best we got on out of that place sooner anyway. Such a shame for a restaurant to be in such a great location but to have such a major flaw. On a brighter note, other than the maskless manager the rest of the staff kept their masks on at all times and provided stellar customer service. The coke I drank was also very good. I love this place.. The flavor of the Shrimp Fried Rice is really good! I wish they would bring back the chili oil seasoning.. i love that on my fried rice. Oh, the Sushi, always fresh.. my husband doesn't like raw but I was able to convince him to try it and he said it wasn't too bad lol. (that's a 5 star for him lol) I've been going to ShoGun for years and I haven't had one bad thing to say about them. This is not a great impression of hibachi. The chefs are a hit or miss and all are not created equally. I recommend you go to Benihana to get a real hibachi taste and experience. This man almost walked off without cooking my yakisoba. Also as many other reviews say this food is very bland and the chicken is dry af. The sauce is not thick enough so it doesn't stick to the chicken, veggies, or beef. The best part of the lunch was the yakisoba and shrimp and soup entree. These were the tastiest items I received. I recommend only getting the shrimp or salmon as I've had both and they were the best of all the dinner combos. The yakisoba is better than the fried rice imo. Happy eats! read more

I like the hibachi grill itself more than I like the food. I ordered the chicken tepanyaki with fried rice and noodles. The chicken was a little dry and bland. The rice was okay but the veggies were the best of all. Well the hibachi cook threw in a couple of shrimp and they were really good. Before the entree, onion soup and salad is served. The soup is tasty but I don't eat the salad because it's basically just lettuce with salad dressing and I don't eat lettuce. read more

We had a party of 11 eat at this location Saturday night. We arrived around 9:30 and went straight to the hibachi. Their were 2 other hibachi tables there as well. We should have left when we walked in. The floors were filthy with food and paper napkins. The hibachi had rice and oil smeared across the granite and pieces of food in the cracks were the table and hibachi meet. It looked bad, like there had been no deep cleaning maintenance for quite some time be use of the build up of the food. I'm not going to keep going on about how bad everything was at this establishment...from the filthiness to those in my party not eating their food because of the quality...it was one of the most disgusting restaurants I've walked into. I don't even want to give this place 1 star. We spent over a $100 on sushi here. 3 out of the 6 rolls had avocado in them. Halfway into eating, we realized the avocado was completely rotten, black and inedible. We called the restaurant to complain and he said "it was just eel sauce making it look black or that the other warm parts of the roll caused the color change". We've eaten avocado containing rolls many times and NEVER had this issue. He then asked me to send pictures as proof- when he called back , he continued to defend that they would "never carry spoiled ingredients " and that the black avocado was out of his hands. He defended his restaurant for over 10 minutes and said we could send more pictures of evidence of the food for him to show the main chef. He offered $10 "to cover the cost of the avocado", stating that because the other fish ingredients were fine he would not reimburse that. Mind you the cost of these 3 rolls was $40! When I asked if he expected customers to remove spoiled ingredients from their rolls and continue eating , he had no response. If I didn't have 2 young children at home I would've gone right there with the disgusting rolls to demand my money back but was unable to. Very disappointed in how they handled this situation and will never be returning again . read more
