Visiting Houston and made a last minute decision to grab some hibachi. I favor the Sakura chain back home, but this place didn't disappoint. I ordered my usual chicken and shrimp. Parking: Restaurant is located in the Pearland Town Center and there are plenty of parking spots. Although you may have to walk far depending on how pack it is. Time and Day: Came on a Thursday evening around 6:00 PM and it wasn't crowded at all. I was easily seated. Food: I ordered the Volcano Roll ($10.95), Crunch Dog ($11.95), and the New Orleans Roll ($13.95). Overall, all the sushi tasted decent. The main problem with the rolls was the amount of rice they put in. It makes the rolls filling, but for the amount I was paying, I expected something more tasteful. The Volcano Roll was the worst to me as all I can remember is eating rice and the sauce. I honestly thought it was just rice. At least with the New Orleans I can taste the crawfish and spicy tuna. But avoid the Volcano Roll at all cost, it was a complete waste of money. Overall, the food gets a (2/3). At least on a good note, the sushi menu has pictures of each roll although it is not guaranteed they will look like that when it comes out. Service: Decent service here. I was greeted, escorted to the table, was given menus, water was constantly refilled, and overall it was decent. Had no issues with the service so it gets a (3.5/5) Price: Expensive for the sushi quality. The prices are much higher than what I was expecting and was disappointed with the food. Overall: For sushi, I recommend going somewhere else. You are really paying for rice with small bits of tuna, crab or whatever the roll is supposed to have. I guess if you ordered the Japanese Vegetable Roll, it should be okay. Overall, this place gets a (2.5/5). I strongly advise you if you're looking for good sushi DO NOT ATTEND THIS RESTAURANT! Here's why: -not so friendly/ attentive bartender -rice was not proportionate to the sushi -my dinner napkin was dirty and had a really bad smell to it -bartender was not really knowledgeable about menu items to recommend a different sushi out of the norm to us -sushi tastes below average -the sushi was served on two different plates; my sushi and my friends (not consistent) -the roll cuts were wayyyy to big -overall poor serviced restaurant I try to give restaurants with 2 stars a chance but sadly this one did not live up to that chance that I gave them. I believe this location just opened. They have many more around the outskirts of Houston. I haven't been to any of the others but most of them share the same menu. They had a Groupon that we used to try this place. The Groupon lived up to its purpose and got us to try a place we wouldn't even know existed otherwise, under normal conditions we have no reason to explore out to Pearland. After our visit I believe they gained a few regulars. It hasn't replaced my favorite Hibachi place, but it's a pretty good standby. The main dining room and sushi bar are very stylized, trendy and dimly lit. However it seems they spent all their money on the design of the front room. The back room houses all the hibachi grills and is boring as hell. Its simply stark, only grills, chairs and walls. Absolutely nothing on the walls but wallpaper, it just feels like once you pass the front room you step into a completely different restaurant. We are very experienced hibachi patrons, but it took us forever to get through their menu. It may not have more options than their competitors', but the way its set up just makes it feel massive. Every items has pictures, which I'm sure helps some people but it seemed to make my decision harder. Their prices are cheaper than Benihana and their sushi is much cheaper and larger portions than the places we frequent in Houston. We split the combination dinner with Chicken, $8.95, and Filet Mignon, $14.95 and added two fried rice, $1.95 each. The hibachi dinners come with a salad, onion soup, two shrimp and veggies. The salad was disappointing and really small, it was ginger dressing but it was too citrusy for some reason. The onion soup was pretty standard, but still yummy. The shrimp were really fresh tasting and the veggies were the usual broccoli, onions and zucchini. My hubby kept bitting his chicken pieces in half to check them because he said they were so juicy they couldn't possibly be fully cooked, but he never found any piece to worry about. Crazy to have such juicy grilled chicken. The filet was soo good, just the way I like it with plenty of garlic butter. We tried one sushi roll, the Shaggy Dog, $9.95 for 8 pieces. For me they were two bite pieces, I'm sure I would have choked if I tried for one bite. The crab wasn't too fishy, which I'm very sensitive too. There was something on there that was a little spicy. I hate getting that surprise, I'm a wuss. Other locations have a bad reputation service wise, but we had no problems here. Our waitress was very attentive. I wish we had chosen the dining room, the atmosphere was so much nicer. They had a live sax player, it was on the loud side though, we could hear him in the next room like he was right next to us. You can get the same choices in the dining room with their bento boxes. The shopping center they're in is massive, but there isn't much parking that close to the restaurant. It took us a while to find it in the center, it located across from Barnes & Noble. They also have outdoor seating which may be nice when summer is over. All in all if we don't feel like driving the 30 minutes down to Clear Lake to hit our favorite place, Shogun is certainly our new backup! read more

(Sushi review only) I popped in for a quick lunch while in the area and sat down at the sushi bar. Decor is very Modern with new build finshes. The dining area was deserted for it being lunch time which made me a little uneasy from the start. My server was attentive and quick but it may be because I was one of 3 people dining at the time in the whole place... I ordered miso soup, seaweed salad and salmon sashimi. The miso was uneventful and bland, but that's not usually anything new. They charge $2.50 for a soft drink and $2.50 for miso soup, so not much in expectations. Seaweed salad had a good sized portion which was nice and it was better than most places. My big gripe though is when the sashimi came out. The cuts were just really poor. Portions were large but there was a good amount of gristle to chew through that the sushi chef didn't even bother to trim off. Freshness wasn't ideal either, as I caught a whiff of the dreaded fish smell when good sashimi should be almost odorless. Final straw was the small bone that stabbed my gums in the last piece of fish. I put the half eaten piece of fish down and asked for my check. Even being out in the suburbs, I'm sure there are plenty of choices when it comes to sushi, and I would definitely keep this place off that list. read more

I wish it were possible to leave 0 stars. We came in as a party of 3 and were told the hibachi part of the restaurant wasn't available. Reluctantly, we sat anyway as it was our first time and we still were willing to try the food. While eating our salad that was sitting in salad dressing water, we watched two parties come in behind us and get seated in the hibachi section. I went back to the host stand to inquire about the "closed" section and she said oh, well one group was a reservation and then there was extra room at the table. When I asked why we weren't told that we could wait 10 min to sit in the extra room, she just gave me a blank stare and loosely apologized. I have been to a number of hibachi locations and the food here was underwhelming. We were ignored for refills and had to wait 5 min and ask twice to get sauce for our food when they weren't busy.
