We celebrated the 75th birthday of a dear friend of mine's mother at Shogun earlier this year. We all had a great time and our reservation for 10 right when they opened on a Saturday was a memorable one. Just note that your party has to be all present before they seat you. We waited a little while after everyone arrived which was a little surprising since this was right at opening. We were all quite hungry at this point and couldnt wait to be seated. I went with the teppan Shogun combo of rib eye steak & sesame chicken ($16.95)... each combo comes with miso soup, salad with ginger dressing and fried rice. The rib eye was great as i requested it to be cooked medium. The hibachi grilled vegetables that came with it included zucchini, mushroom and onions. I liked it... The sesame chicken was very dry and just had sesame seeds sprinkled on em so there wasnt much to them. I probably would not get that again. Otherwise the rib eye & and mixed vegetables were satisfying. Our hibachi chef was great. He was funny, a good sport and had to deal with our friend who is allergic to everything. She even comes prepared with no-soy soy sauce and an EpiPen!... Our chef was very careful not to cross contaminate the grill with ingredients she may be allergic to. It was very much appreciated. Located in the Hastings Ranch area of Pasadena. This is a nice location with a full bar and a non-hibachi side of the restaurant. Plenty of parking in a shared lot. read more

Waitress was great but the food, cold, old, and not good. The manager came out with the food on ice cold plates. We said the steak which was already cut up was lukewarm which he said it was hot when they put it on the plate. Put it on an ice cold plate and in a couple of minutes your food is going to be lukewarm. He became upset because we wanted hot food and was sending the rice back because it was cold on the outside, lukewarm on the inside. You're pushing high priced cafeteria food, done the same way at least Shogun should be able to bring hot food to a table. Left and one of the party's stomach started seizing up and hurting. Glad I stopped eating after the manager became angry at us for complaining about the ice cold plates, bowls and unappetizing food. I have been to this location a few times, Upon walking in, the two hostesses did not greet us and seemed like they both had funky attitudes. We were seated and my family members order was taken by a server and I was skipped! This guy was so lost but also ignored many requests!! Everyone got their drinks except us. Everyone got what they wanted and asked for EXCEPT US. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and thought, hmm maybe he's just new so it's understandable. No, after many other attempts to get what we asked for, it just seemed like he didnt care to service us. Food was okay but service was BAD THEN... I get up to speak to the manager about his ridiculous behavior and the manager defended his actions. Not only did he defend his poor customer, he allowed that worker to confront us about speaking on his performance!!! How unprofessional and tacky on both ends especially the manager!! Then proceeded to tell me he gave me a discount and said well I didn't have to give it to you but here and walked away!! Disgusting management and service! I was not reaching for a discount, I'm not broke!! I wanted to let him know that his worker clearly needed more training. They actually BOTH do. I've been coming here for years with family and friends and have never had a bad meal or experience any bad service. Today my girls and their boyfriends and I decided to have lunch for my wife's birthday but were so disappointed, not with the service or food but with one of the managers that was very unprofessional. This was on 8/24/25 at approximately 1 pm. Everyone was enjoying our experience, the cook/chef had just started preparing our food when the manager came over and started berating him in front of us which we all heard. I don't remember the managers name but he was short, short salt and pepper hair and stud earrings. The first thing that popped into my head was.. you could have walked over and told him, I need to talk to you when you're done but no he starts telling him that something or someone was missing from the back and the cook told him a name and yet he continued to interrupt him while he was trying to prepare our food which totally changed the whole atmosphere after he walked away. We could all see that the cook was flustered after that and I'm sure he was upset and angry that he was treated like this IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS! He did his best to joke with us doing what he's supposed to do to interact and basically entertain us but we could see the frustration in his face and in his cooking style. I am sending this not as a bad review but as a very disappointed customer but only disappointed with the unprofessional manager that you put in charge. I finally got to try sushi from shogun and they are delicious. This girl loves something fried every so often and some of their fried rolls really just hit the spot when the flavors melt in your mouth. I've come to enjoy sitting at the sushi bar here because ambience and decor of the bar space is very enjoyable. Depending who your sushi chef is the company makes the experience that much better. They had options I've never seen or tried before that have elevated my experience when I come. Prices are decent but a bit up there. While the service is good and the atmosphere pleasant, this restaurant seems to be mostly about the show and less about the food. I think it is way over priced. If you're at the tappan grill, your meal will be cooked and served based on what others are ordering. I had salmon, which was the last to be cooked, so my rice got cold and I began my dinner significantly after my companions. And the salmon was way overcooked. Our server Matt was amazing, would be coming around checking if we are good and was on top of what dishes still needed to come out Over the food was mixed, loved the sushi appetizer plate, the half roll trio, I would pick a few different rolls that were so heavy. We ordered a BCG full roll which we did not finish. The chef was a little too generous with the mayo and it over powered the scallop. The scallop were also cold which would indicate they didn't bake it long enough. The chicken karaage was a good dish to break up all the dish we good that was heavy in the rice Overall I was a little disappointed with the amount of changes that were made since we last came here. I understand restaurant have to adapt based on customer, but I miss their scallop dynamite dish. I was more impressed with the service and Matt being so attentive and on top of our order. read more

No one came to ask for drinks until about 20min later. Dinner didn't start til 9!!! We couldn't believe it. With children and a small toddler. I've been to Shogun several times over the past year and it has yet to disappoint! The entrees are reasonably priced and the portion sizes are large. The servers and the chefs are friendly and engaging. The restaurant can get crowded, especially on the weekends, so reservations are recommended. My daughter and son in law brought me and my husband here for our anniversary. So much fun! The food and drinks were all delicious and the teppanyaki experience was amazing. Our service all flowed at a good pace - we didn't feel either rushed or as though it was taking all night. Everything was prepared just the way we ordered it and the portions were generous. We came here on a Saturday and made reservations for 5people at 2:30pm. We got there around 2:34pm. They were pretty busy, our wait time was close to an hour even after reservation. We got seated around 3:15. If you made reservations before 3pm and is seated after 3pm, they still let you order from the lunch menu, which was nice. We ordered appetizers and drinks, then our food. We ate maybe around 4pm, didn't finish until 5pm. Wow, didn't realize this would be almost an all day thing. Lol we are all pretty hungry. The food portions looked small but it got us pretty full. Lol The reservation recommendation would be an hour ahead. I gave it a 3 star because 1. When we asked our waiter if he can take our empty plates, he responded with saying it wasn't his job. Understandable, we didn't know either but he could've just taken it and maybe said sure, I'll have the busser take these for you next time. 2. He didn't really check up on us much, understand it might be busy but he popped in maybe twice at our table. 3. We asked our meat medium rare but came out medium to almost cooked well done. We took our kid to celebrate their 9th birthday. They LOVED it. It's a casual place and there were other kids there, families there, and lots of people celebrating birthdays on a Tuesday night. There was no wait. The hibachi chef was great. He was patient, kind, and very welcoming. The food was AMAZING. I had been to Benihana a few years ago and wasn't impressed so I stayed away from hibachi places. I was pleasantly surprised to find the food flavorful at Shogun. We ordered french fries, chicken gyoza (dumplings), and the sushi sampler as appetizers. I ordered so many because I wasn't sure if they would like the entrees. When I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong. First off, they LOVED the show. Everything from the fire and music to the heart and Mario Bros. sounds enthralled them. When the chef made the fried rice, they both wanted some. When the steak, shrimp, and veggies were done, they gobbled them up. Everything was flavorful and just right. To be honest, if I had known it was going to be that good, I would have ordered more and larger portions (the 9 oz steak instead of the 6oz). After dinner, we ordered the mango and strawberry mochi ice cream. The sorbets inside were great but my kids didn't care for the outside mochi part. Each serving arrived with 4 mochi sliced in half. We really didn't need two orders. If I ordered it again, I'd only order one for both of them and they'd share. Since we were celebrating a birthday, the people came over with the drums for a quick birthday song (it was the end of the night and they seemed a bit worn out but that was okay). My kid got a samurai looking paper hat, which they loved, and a bowl of strawberry ice cream (they were out of cake). We celebrated a birthday last night at Shogun. Our party of 9 were finishing our meal when my 4 year old grandson noticed something (maggot?) crawling on our table near my plate! I jumped up and alerted an employee (manager?) and brought him back to the table to see. When we returned our waitress had put the bug in a napkin and said there was "no problem now". Everyone at our end of the table that saw it were shocked and unable to continue eating. An employee returned and said he took half off our meal. So this is my favorite place to eat at for birthdays or just daily dinner plans. So I had a reservation for today dec 2nd for my dad's birthday everything was going great, even with the person who cooks the food for you. He was very entertaining, so nice, very talkative, he was making my whole family laugh with his jokes. But at some point the manager named Eddie or Eric came up to our dinner table area and was rude asf telling the cooker to hurry up in a rude way that wasn't necessary. If he had an issue with the cooker he should've told him privately because my family got quiet when the manager came up to him to hurry tf up and at first we thought he was joking. Then after a few minutes pass by I noticed the manager kept looking at the man that was cooking for us he just kept staring at him and shaking his head as if his worker wasn't doing his job.
