We went for Valentine's Day. As expected it was busy but we had a reservation which is wonderful but we did wait 20min after. Once we sat there was a long wait before the waiter came back for drinks, appetizers or taking the order. The chef also took long and this is where were most disappointed. The place it self is not cheap and we did go for the show. The chef seemed very serious and some what annoyed there was no show at all. All he did was cook the food and that is it , the other tables around had music and more to see. In this case if he was not going to do their entertainment while cooking we should have been sat at the bar instead. I get that it is a busy day but this is something that they know in advanced. As customers do and expect their cooking show because it is something that this restaurant is known for and this did not happen with us. Sadly we wont be going back to pay for nothing. read more

First time going to this location, very friendly and attentive staff. They were always taking empty plates from table, providing refills on drinks. The overall atmosphere was nice, everyone was having a good time. The food was delicious as always, but our cook didn't engage with us, he was just there cooking. So he definitely did not meet the whole experience of dining in front of the Tepoanyaki grill. Other than that everything was on point and we will be going back. read more

We got there early but some people had to wait for the cook cause they had to go to all the tables. Our guy, Home Depo was awesome. Ask for him! With the train and the hearts, it was super enjoyable for both adults and kids. We got the fried rice, calamari steak, rib eye, chicken and shrimp. I decided to celebrate my birthday at Shogun on last Friday w/ 9 of my close friends. Our server did not provide good service at all. Often we did not see her for big blocks of time. When we were done and it was time to settle our bills, 2 of my guests asked for their ticket to be separated, that was done. However when asked to separate the 8 other tickets, we were told that couldn't be done, and that only 3 cards could be used to divide the bill 3 ways. That was not acceptable, and I understand that it was probably done for gratuity purposes. We were not a family, and we should not have had to pay for others food when we all had separate meals. Our bill was more than $500! Not only that, but the gratuity that was charged was not earned by our server. I was very disappointed by the entire visit. I chose to spend my birthday at this establishment with my friends, and I now regret my choice. I do not plan on returning to this establishment in the future. read more

We celebrated the 75th birthday of a dear friend of mine's mother at Shogun earlier this year. We all had a great time and our reservation for 10 right when they opened on a Saturday was a memorable one. Just note that your party has to be all present before they seat you. We waited a little while after everyone arrived which was a little surprising since this was right at opening. We were all quite hungry at this point and couldnt wait to be seated. I went with the teppan Shogun combo of rib eye steak & sesame chicken ($16.95)... each combo comes with miso soup, salad with ginger dressing and fried rice. The rib eye was great as i requested it to be cooked medium. The hibachi grilled vegetables that came with it included zucchini, mushroom and onions. I liked it... The sesame chicken was very dry and just had sesame seeds sprinkled on em so there wasnt much to them. I probably would not get that again. Otherwise the rib eye & and mixed vegetables were satisfying. Our hibachi chef was great. He was funny, a good sport and had to deal with our friend who is allergic to everything. She even comes prepared with no-soy soy sauce and an EpiPen!... Our chef was very careful not to cross contaminate the grill with ingredients she may be allergic to. It was very much appreciated. Located in the Hastings Ranch area of Pasadena. This is a nice location with a full bar and a non-hibachi side of the restaurant. Plenty of parking in a shared lot. read more

Food is always delicious here. Pretty consistent. Service is good too. We usually get seated right away, within 10-20 minutes each time we've visited. For being a Saturday night, it wasn't very crowded. We ordered the jumbo shrimp plate with fried rice. The filet and shrimp plate. The chicken plate. The Chicken and shrimp plate. Delicious. Love taking the family here for food and a show. Good for birthdays too. This is a huge restaurant and I've never had problems with a long wait. Food wise I would recommend steak and scallops and calamari steak. The combos are good, so do a combo of a couple of those items. Comes with a shrimp appetizer so you can skip the shrimp. Have not eaten at Shogun in a few years. Sign on the door said under new ownership and it was apparent. Prices were obviously higher. Staff seemed unseasoned. The teppanyaki chefs were underwhelming. The food was just okay. Best part of the meal was the fried rice and green tea ice cream. The containers for leftovers were so cheap the juices from the food seeped through into the bag. I don't think I will be returning. Next time I have a craving for teppanyaki I will just have to spend a little more money and eat at Benihana's. read more

It's the end of an era.... Been coming to this Shogun for over 30 years. Tonight was the first time I went back after taking a break. It was definitely not the same. From the staff to the food, it was off. The staff was unorganized, the food quality and quantity changed, the prices went up, and there were several lulls of wait time.. The server was too casual and we had to wait a long time for the teppanyaki chef to come by, in fact it seemed understaffed. With a lot of time to look around, I saw several full tables, no service, no chefs, and some angry customers looking around for service. My lobster was over salted, the pasta addition is unnecessary, and the portions have whittled down to a few bites (specifically referring to the scallops) My bill was over $300, not including tip, no alcoholic beverages, party of 4. Not all change is good. The change I'll be making is finding a new place to go. read more

Been coming to this restaurant weekly few years ago .... returning this evening for some sushi. The sushi bar hasn't changed much, it wasn't too busy as the teppan room. Tom and Victor (sushi chef) both made me some delicious sushi- scallops and sweet shrimp sushi are fresh and tasty. I also ordered a yellow tail collar to take home. The service is attentive. Waitress was great but the food, cold, old, and not good. The manager came out with the food on ice cold plates. We said the steak which was already cut up was lukewarm which he said it was hot when they put it on the plate. Put it on an ice cold plate and in a couple of minutes your food is going to be lukewarm. He became upset because we wanted hot food and was sending the rice back because it was cold on the outside, lukewarm on the inside. You're pushing high priced cafeteria food, done the same way at least Shogun should be able to bring hot food to a table. Left and one of the party's stomach started seizing up and hurting. Glad I stopped eating after the manager became angry at us for complaining about the ice cold plates, bowls and unappetizing food. It has been 6 years since we last visited shogun. The menu has changed a lot. We decide to just eat at the sushi bar then teppanyaki. Our server Matt was amazing, would be coming around checking if we are good and was on top of what dishes still needed to come out Over the food was mixed, loved the sushi appetizer plate, the half roll trio, I would pick a few different rolls that were so heavy. We ordered a BCG full roll which we did not finish. The chef was a little too generous with the mayo and it over powered the scallop. The scallop were also cold which would indicate they didn't bake it long enough. The chicken karaage was a good dish to break up all the dish we good that was heavy in the rice Overall I was a little disappointed with the amount of changes that were made since we last came here. I understand restaurant have to adapt based on customer, but I miss their scallop dynamite dish. I was more impressed with the service and Matt being so attentive and on top of our order. read more

I have been to this location a few times, Upon walking in, the two hostesses did not greet us and seemed like they both had funky attitudes. We were seated and my family members order was taken by a server and I was skipped! This guy was so lost but also ignored many requests!! Everyone got their drinks except us. I get up to speak to the manager about his ridiculous behavior and the manager defended his actions. Not only did he defend his poor customer, he allowed that worker to confront us about speaking on his performance!!! How unprofessional and tacky on both ends especially the manager!! Then proceeded to tell me he gave me a discount and said well I didn't have to give it to you but here and walked away!! Disgusting management and service! I was not reaching for a discount, I'm not broke!! I wanted to let him know that his worker clearly needed more training. They actually BOTH do. I've been coming here for years with family and friends and have never had a bad meal or experience any bad service. Today my girls and their boyfriends and I decided to have lunch for my wife's birthday but were so disappointed, not with the service or food but with one of the managers that was very unprofessional. This was on 8/24/25 at approximately 1 pm. Everyone was enjoying our experience, the cook/chef had just started preparing our food when the manager came over and started berating him in front of us which we all heard. I don't remember the managers name but he was short, short salt and pepper hair and stud earrings. The first thing that popped into my head was.. you could have walked over and told him, I need to talk to you when you're done but no he starts telling him that something or someone was missing from the back and the cook told him a name and yet he continued to interrupt him while he was trying to prepare our food which totally changed the whole atmosphere after he walked away. We could all see that the cook was flustered after that and I'm sure he was upset and angry that he was treated like this IN FRONT OF CUSTOMERS! He did his best to joke with us doing what he's supposed to do to interact and basically entertain us but we could see the frustration in his face and in his cooking style. I am sending this not as a bad review but as a very disappointed customer but only disappointed with the unprofessional manager that you put in charge.
