I decided to celebrate my birthday at Shogun on last Friday w/ 9 of my close friends. Our server did not provide good service at all. Often we did not see her for big blocks of time. When we were done and it was time to settle our bills, 2 of my guests asked for their ticket to be separated, that was done. However when asked to separate the 8 other tickets, we were told that couldn't be done, and that only 3 cards could be used to divide the bill 3 ways. That was not acceptable, and I understand that it was probably done for gratuity purposes. We were not a family, and we should not have had to pay for others food when we all had separate meals. Our bill was more than $500! Not only that, but the gratuity that was charged was not earned by our server. I was very disappointed by the entire visit. I chose to spend my birthday at this establishment with my friends, and I now regret my choice. I do not plan on returning to this establishment in the future. read more

Looks like this location is going thru ownership change. It was not the same this New Year's Eve. Every year restaurant was decorated, balloons throughout the bar and waiting area. This year 12/31/25 no decorations. Chef Carlos was good but could interact a lot more. About 5-7 minutes after being served the busboys were already setting new plates and asking if we needed boxes. It felt rushed. Usually we are afforded 90 minutes for our reservation but this time only an hour which is very quick for the time we are seated. Very disappointed. We know it's busy but give us time to enjoy the food. read more

I used to love this restaurant.But they've changed the menu and it's not that good. They added potatoes to the veggies and pasta! Why? I understand things are expensive but this changes the whole meal. It seems obvious you're just trying to stretch the meals. I probably won't be back. read more

I dined here with my co-workers and we had Osvaldo as our cook. He did such an amazing job. We really enjoyed his show! Unfortunately, there were guests at the table that were giving him a really hard time, he tried to remediate what they were complaining about but they didn't want it fixed they just wanted to be rude and cause a scene. I felt SO bad for him, he did nothing wrong. The staff was awesome and moved my co-workers and I to a different table so we could finish out our meal. The staff kept apologizing for the rude guests which they didn't have to, and were so kind! We will def. Be back and we will definitely be requesting Osvaldo as our cook. Went here for business/reacquaintance type lunch. First upon entrance; took a few minutes for a greeting. Wasn't crowded. Two stations had began with the chef; and orders were taken but, the host attempted to seat us there. We declined. Next, our Spanish speaking chef; was hard to understand. He prepared food and entertained the family at the other end: not a problem but the problem was in the portioning of our food. He barely gave us our protein choice but loaded up on the family on the other end. And we ordered the top combos. I was disappointed in service communicated portions. Didn't want to complain so I ate and we left. But I'm good. I'm over the discrepancies and the horrible service with the expensive cost. I won't return. Plus the decor is really aged and dirty, needs a facelift and a chef that treats us all equally. I should have taken a picture it's worth a thousand words. Next time! Ciao! read more

Shogun is an 'at-your-table', in your face experience based hibachi grill restaraunt similar to Benihana. Our friends made reservations for 8pm on a Saturday and it was pretty packed! We arrived around 745 and ordered some drinks at the bar as we waited for our table. Me and the hubby ordered a shogun ice tea $13 each ( like a Long Island) and it was strong and flavorful . Our friends have been coming here for years and love the chef Anton so much that they try to request him each time they come. Thankfully we were able to get Anton to cook for us and we got to experience Anton's chef skills! Our waitress Grace was incredibly helpful and attentive when we needed her. Our friends gave us some good advice as to whether we should share our food or not depending on how hungry we were. We decided to share a combination plate and went with the Shogun special( $56) it came with Miso soup, salad with ginger dressing, Rib eye, samurai shrimp, a lobster tail , and we added the Chicken fried rice for an extra $4. The show and the food were equally amazing! I did save room for some dessert and got the mochi ice cream in mango, vanilla, strawberry flavors. The perfect end to an overall delicious dinner. My cons about the restaurant were the dirty floors around us. I kept sliding my foot on rice and noodles that had fallen . And we didn't have any spoons, forks or chopsticks and had to ask for those after our food was cooked. But I would definitely come back here and hope to get Anton as well! read more

Bummer. Went last night. Didn't know there was new ownership. I've been going to this location for decades. It's always been one of my favorites. Not anymore. They've changed a lot. The food quality is down. My filet mignon was dry, not juicy like it always used to be and how it should be. They changed the clear onion soup that used to be delicious. Now it's not clear, there's no tofu, no teeny tiny mushrooms and it's salty. The vegetable mix sucks. Hardly any zucchini or mushrooms and they added fuggin potatoes. What? Even my husband's Mai Tai was mediocre. The service was good. Our cook was boring though and somehow everything was rather bland. I don't know if he didn't use enough salt and soy sauce or what. No clue. I've just never had bland food there before. I doubt I will be going back anytime soon. Maybe I'll try a different location or try Benihana's. read more

This used to be where we celebrate everyone's birthday. Things are definitely not the same. They have added in potatoes and broccoli to fill for veggies. Offered noodles that tasted horrible. Most of the food tasted like wet cloth. Just isn't the same. Not to mention our chef never turned ion the vented hood and my son was choking the whole time. I really miss how it used to be. If you are going to spend about $50 dollars a plate, save it for another restaurant. read more

Came by last night to celebrate with my daughter and husband. We were seated quickly and our server came by very quickly to get our drink and appetizer order in. I ordered a lemon drop to start off and some cucumber bites. My husband got an 805 beer and a California roll. For our entree I got the New York steak with sesame chicken and of course I upgraded for the fried rice! My husband got the sesame chicken and shrimp. As you know the portions are very big here so we both shared with our daughter (she's only 2) but we did order her a side of fried rice. We still had plenty of food to take home. Overall it was a good experience and the chef put on a good show. Shogun is always a favorite of mine. read more

We went for Valentine's Day. As expected it was busy but we had a reservation which is wonderful but we did wait 20min after. Once we sat there was a long wait before the waiter came back for drinks, appetizers or taking the order. The chef also took long and this is where were most disappointed. The place it self is not cheap and we did go for the show. The chef seemed very serious and some what annoyed there was no show at all. All he did was cook the food and that is it , the other tables around had music and more to see. In this case if he was not going to do their entertainment while cooking we should have been sat at the bar instead. I get that it is a busy day but this is something that they know in advanced. As customers do and expect their cooking show because it is something that this restaurant is known for and this did not happen with us. Sadly we wont be going back to pay for nothing. read more

Came here with family on a busy Saturday night to celebrate my niece's piano recital. There was quite a queue because it was peak dinner time and the place was packed! People out the door. Despite the wait, service and food were amazing! Most notably the attention from the staff and the General Manager, Michael Granados, were impeccable! We felt like VIPs!!! We used to love this restaurant, but it has gone downhill lately. I'm speaking about the Pasadena location. Beginning with rude hostesses, people who hang up on you when you call and Long waits. We ended up eating in the dining room rather than at the grill, because the wait was so long. The food was terrible. Although our waiter was really wonderful, the drinks were awful and everything just took a very long time. I realize restaurants get busy, and they could have large parties, but they need to serve all their clients, not just the ones with big parties. And they need to have a staff that's able to help them, they were clearly overwhelmed on Saturday night. read more

I've been to Shogun a few times now and it's always such a good experience. Ian, the manager, is super friendly and makes sure everything runs perfectly you can tell he really cares about the guests. Tom, the sushi chef, is incredible! Every roll he makes is fresh and delicious definitely some of the best sushi around. You can tell he puts real effort into what he does. We haven't been here since before COVID. The food is still very good. Our Teppanyaki chef, Tom from Thailand, was humorous and had great skills for cooking! One of the best ones that we've had. Our server was also attentive and came around a few times to check on us. I didn't give 5 stars because the ventilation needs some improvement. With all that cooking in the dining room, it was very stuffy and had an "oily" smell. They need to install better and stronger air conditioning units.
