    Tonkotsu Ramen

Great service! Very nice host. It is also a huge space. As a Japanese person, the ramen is mediocre but one of the better ones in Hoboken. My friend and I got the miso ramen and tonkotsu ramen and we both agreed that the noodles were too soft. The tonkotsu ramen's broth was thinner than Japanese tonkotsu broth and not as rich. The menma (bamboo shoots) were sweet for some reason. There was so much chashu, not sure if that was needed or not.

Came here solo and sat at the bar and felt like I was teleported to Japan. Menu has many offerings including lots of veggie options. I had the vegan ramen which had all the favorite ramen veggie fixings . Loved the shiitake skewer and they have a wide variety of Sake as well as authentic Japanese drinks ! I'll be back

Cute spot for a nice meal! I loved the takoyaki. The ramen felt lacking as it didn't have the robust flavors it typically would, but I still enjoyed it as a soup on a cold day. The fried ice cream wasn't bad but the tempura did feel a bit dense for my liking and the match ice cream was also a bit too sweet. I was intrigued by their drink menu and the udon/soba dishes so I'd try that my next time around!

Chicken Donburi so dry and disgusting. Nothing like as advertised in their online menu.

Avoid avoid avoid. The quality has TANKED compared to a few years ago. This used to be my favorite ramen in town and it absolutely sucked the last two times I got it. So flavorless. I decided to give them another chance and try something new because I was craving a chicken bowl, and I found the chicken donburri on their website which looked creamy and delicious. Nope! They gave me a bowl of the driest and blandest chicken. What the heck happened to this place? That guy from apuilla runs things now and he is awful. When I asked him about my chicken bowl and how it didn't look right, because where is the sauce like it shows online? He said that people complained when they made it like that so they changed it. And I asked if I could get some sauce to add to it and he gave me a small spoonful of some spicy siracha sauce. So stupid. He knows nothing about customer service or good food. Honestly, I sleeve him and this whole place now. Disgusting. Avoid avoid avoid.

I will never turn down a ramen lunch, especially when I get to try a brand new (to me) spot. Shokudo is definitely a place to check out for all the ramen, rice bowl, pork bun lovers out there. We started off with lots of appetizers: gyoza, spicy pork buns, chicken karaage. All were great but I think the spicy pork buns stole the show. Not too spicy at all and this is coming from someone with the lowest spice tolerance alive. For my entree, I got the oyster ramen and it is probably just a personal preference but I really didn't like the oystery taste. I love raw oysters and love cooked ones too but something about these just wasn't for me. I would 100% return for a different ramen. Maybe my go to, a classic tonkatsu, but I don't think loving seafood and oysters automatically means loving the oyster ramen, just a heads up. Our group also split the mochi ice cream (3 different flavors) and it was delicious! I am an ice cream lover of all kinds, but this was a must try for dessert. The inside is spacious and the service was great. I loved that it was out of the way and uptown. Perfect lunch or dinner spot.

Cute little restaurant for a quick bite! There's indoor and outdoor seating. Came here on a Friday around 745 pm and there were tons of seats available We ordered the pork gyoza (forgot to photograph) - can't go wrong with dumplings, soba - I would've preferred no ice in the dipping sauce bc when the ice melts, the sauce becomes diluted but great otherwise, and Galbi + shishito yakitori (the galbi was marinated perfectly!!! Highly recommend) I'm usually not a sake drinker but we also tried the hakushika snow beauty nigori and it was not bad!

The apps at Shokudo stole the show! The spicy pork belly bao, steamed gyoza and crispy sesame chicken were all delicious. You can definitely make a meal out of apps alone. There are lots of entree choices like various ramens, udon, rice bowls and skewers. I tried a chicken and rice bowl and this was just okay. Very bland and could've definitely used more seasoning. For dessert the mochi ice cream trio was so cute and tasty. Very photogenic too! The inside is simply decorated with plenty of seating. They have a full bar, so you can pair some sake or cocktails with your eats. Our server was friendly and attentive. Overall, a solid dining experience! I'd probably just try a different entree if I go back.

Ok definitely the best Udon I have had in New Jersey. I got the Vegetable Nabe Udon to go and so good. I love that they separate the noodles from the broth in the to-go container. Also the service was excellent they brought food out to my car.

Very dissapointed with my order this time around. I got the exact same thing and it was a whole different experience. Broth was really lacking flavor. I ordered two ramen and they only sent toppings like egg and seaweed for 1 ramen. The ponzu sauce they sent was barely any, it was a ridiculously small amount.. don't know if I'll be ordering again with such a drastic change in consistency...

Excellent Ramen, clean ingredients and I really loved the ambiance. Service is excellent and staff is super helpful to answer any questions. I really liked the vibe of the place it's very calm and has some cute artwork. I highly recommend the sencha tea. Tons of vegetarian options. I recommend the miso Ramen Lastly they have a large menu of Sake and soju. The beer ordered was chilled and excellent.

This ramen shop is always a hit! My girlfriend and I had the beef udon and miso ramen--both were flavorful and perfectly cooked. The broth was rich, the noodles had great texture, and the portions were just right. Friendly service, good vibes, and great Japanese beer selection. Definitely coming back!

The place is easy to access from the main street in Hoboken and entrance is open-garage like modern designed dining place. Their selection of alcohol is quite good especially if you are into Japanese/Asian brews. You can see one of the pics I posted shows about their cooking principle. To be "healthy for modern life" lead them to limit the amount of pork fat and salt. until i had first slurp, i wasn't sure what this really meant. Yes they stated that upfront in the menu.... They also states "inviting me to indulge authentic ramen cravings.". it's really easy to say but really hard to achieve both simultaneously because they could conflicts each other. I had Tonkotsu Ramen which is pork bone broth noodle. I believe the soup is originally from Kyushu area of Japan. It characterizes by thick white well boiled bone broth, compacted with Koku and Umami (deliciousness and rich flavor). So to be authentic Japanese ramen, you are naturally expect the rich flavorful delicious soup when you order a Tonkotsu ramen. As this restaurant stated about their cooking principles, consequently the soup becomes thin and bland flavor. oh no, they got lost! I thank you for owner to care about my health but when i order Tonkotsu ramen, i expect decent rich ramen. I don't fatty food everyday, but I crave authentic ramen. You miss the point... Why don't you provide authentic and reduced "healthy" version so people can choose one? Of course if you can make a good broth though. The topping had a big piece of seaweed, menma, Kikurage, nappa(authentic?), and charshu (pork shoulder). I didn't buy introducing Nappa idea in the soup because it weaken the soup due to its high water concentrations. The charshu was another failure. The meat was not juicy, thin taste and outside is burned by gas grill. Authentic charshu should be flavorful, juicy and tender slices which melt in my mouth. Per Japanese authentic method, the meat should be grilled but boiled and dipped. None of the characters were present! I gave two starts due to the volume was good and food was served rather quick. But I cannot recommend this place for those who knows what is authentic Japanese ramen, at least Tonkotsu ramen. Be aware any dish require to be rich taste, they might be weak.

I couldn't really taste the black garlic flavor unfortunately as well. I will say that their soft boiled egg was probably the most well done I've had out of any ramen eggs I've had in New York as the egg yolk was perfectly runny alongside the very soft egg whites. Asked up front if we had a reservation, which we didn't, but were still seated immediately at their "bar seating" which was really quite cozy and perfect for our group of 3. The aesthetic here is clean and minimalistic, which I loved, right down to the menu itself. Normally my go-to is tonkatsu ramen, but this isn't the place for that, so we all opted for the New Tokyo Style Shoyu. I loved that you get both chicken and chashu slices together. This ramen was simplicity done well, clean flavor, and I even polished off the broth. It was also somehow my friend's first time having real authentic Japanese ramen in a restaurant (and not grabbed from the package in the bodega) and now he may have a new addiction. Also, if you come here, GET THE PORK BUNS. I have not experienced pork buns this delicious since my first time having Ippudo's. After the first bite, we ALL knew they were worth every penny. My first-time-ramen-eating friend ordered THREE sets. Once again, these buns were simplicity PACKED with flavor: pillowy soft dough clouds of wonder folded over juicy, tender EXTREMELY well-seasoned pork strips in a heavenly sauce and two extremely thin cucumber slices (which I pulled off). No extra lettuce or whatever they normally put on pork buns. Even the waitress had to comment "Your friend loves the pork buns". His face held a look of ecstasy with each bite. I warned him that he will encounter a ton of Japanese restaurants sporting pork buns on the menu: they will not be this good. The Karaage Chicken Rice also deserves an honorable mention. Perfectly crispy outside juicy inside bite-sized chicken pieces atop a small bed of fluffy white rice with some kind of spicy mayo drizzle and a tiny sprinkle of scallions. Smaller portion than expected, but a tiny bowl of happiness. Waitstaff was overattentive almost, but friendly. Only adding plum wine to the menu could elevate the experience here. DEFINITELY recommend you drop in if you're thinking about it.

We walked into a casual space with the kind of atmosphere where you come in for a satisfying bowl of noodles rather than a long dining experience. The smell of the broth coming from the kitchen adds to the warmth, creating that cozy feeling you expect from a good ramen spot. The space is straightforward and functional, letting the food speak for itself. The ramen is the main reason to visit, and the bowls are built with a lot of care. The noodles have a nice firm texture and hold up well in the broth, giving each bite a good balance between the noodles and soup. The broths lean richer and more flavorful, especially for those who enjoy a deeper, heavier ramen style. The toppings are generous, with slices of pork, soft boiled egg, seaweed, bamboo shoots, and green onions adding different textures and flavors throughout the bowl. The pork is tender and well seasoned, and the egg is cooked to that perfect jammy consistency that ties the whole bowl together. The Spicy Miso Ramen stands out as one of the more popular choices, bringing heat while still keeping the savory depth of the miso base. The curry ramen is also worth considering if you want something different from the usual ramen options, offering a thicker, more aromatic broth that still feels comforting. Beyond ramen, the fried chicken, known locally as zangi, and fried rice make good additions to round out the meal, especially if you are looking for something more filling. The zangi is crisp on the outside and juicy inside, a solid complement to the heavier noodle bowls. Service is quick and friendly, and the food comes out efficiently even when the restaurant is busy. The staff handle the steady flow without losing the casual neighborhood feel, making it an easy place to stop by whether you are dining alone or with a group. The menu has enough variety without feeling overwhelming, and the focus stays clearly on the ramen. Menkoi Sao is a solid option for anyone looking for authentic feeling Hokkaido style ramen in New York. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold, and the bowls are the type of meal that feels especially satisfying on a colder day. While the richer broths may be heavier than what some people prefer, it works well for anyone who enjoys a more traditional, full-bodied ramen experience that delivers on warmth, depth, and comfort.

One of those lucky accidents. Easy to walk past if you're not looking for it. The entrance is subtle, almost like a hallway leading you somewhere. But once you're inside, the vibe is genuinely good.
