The German Shepherd Dog Club of East Tennessee held our annual Christmas party at Shoney's on Chapman Hwy, Knoxville. We were allowed to take over most of the back room, and we enjoyed Shoney's delicious buffet. Our waiter Aaron did a fabulous job of making sure we had everything we needed and kept our drinks filled! We exchanged gifts and had a great time, thanks to the good food and great hospitality of Shoney's! read more

Food is alright but service is awful and they gave us the Danm bill after 10min of arriving while we were still eating so if you want to be mistreated or discriminated against this is the place for you. read more

Growing up back in the Shoney's "Big Boy" days, I wondered what the restaurant (inside, food, etc) was like? Wow! Was I surprized when I finally stopped in to eat with my family! The restaurant (& restroom) was one of the cleaniest I've seen in a long time. Our server was very polite and attentive. The buffet (included items in several food bars) was the normal Shoneys buffet. I did like the ham was not the thin cut (cut in pieces/chunks). Overall, the food was good. So, parents of UTK students living around or near the restaurant I sugguest you give it a try. Way less crowded weekends of a home game and the food isn't bad for the money. read more

Dropped by after my annual Dr. Check up..it was my daughter's first time there since she was a lil tike.. Opened the door, there we saw the crew huddled up for some discussion? But they all smiled and waved us in and tabled us up..we went for the buffet and was not disappointed the spread was immaculate. Everything from salads to main course was hot and ready from Crispy fried chicken to hot buttery mashed potatoes and fluffy biscuits and corn. Wow what an improvement. We went here when we first got to TN 5 years ago and got the breakfast buffet. We simply walked out even tho we were all hungry. We would rather eat Mcdonald than that stuff, refuse to call it food. Be scare to go back since. But.y wife suggested it this morning out of nowhere so I figured why not we can always go to McDonald's. And it was definitely better, not great but atleast I'll call it food. I miss the shoneys from back whe I was in my 20s and we would come in the morning after a night of partying. Or simply just because we needed breakfast read more

A group of eight of us came in around 7 PM. The place was not clean the benches were cracked. The food bar was empty in some spots the food did not look good and the taste was the same. Overpriced for mediocre food. Additionally the lights were LED and very cold. It's been 15 years since I've been at a Shoney's and I won't be back. read more

The fried shrimp was flat as a pancake and had no flavor. After removing breading. the white flesh didn't look like shrimp at all. The cold shrimp on the salad bar was real shrimp but tasted sour. The pink gelatin/whipped topping dessert on the fruit bar had no flavor. My baked potato and unsweetened tea with lemon juice was good. The whipped butter for the potato was scooped into a small container and had an onion in it which I despise. The strawberry pie I got as takeout was tasteless. The crust was flat, soggy and crumbly and tasted like shortening. The whipped cream was very good, too bad the strawberries and gelatin sauce was flavorless. The server was extremely slow about everything and the restaurant was not busy at all. She would go into kitchen area and not check on me at all. read more

Had not been there in years; now I know why, I don't know if the waitress was having a bad day, but did not stop to take our order except for drinks, because I was going to have the Buffet but my wife wanted to order from the menu that never happened, the buffet food, 90% of it was cold ; so, if I were you go at your own risk for me, probably never will go back read more

The food was good and service by Keirstin was great. This is the friendliest and cleanest Shoney's I have ever been to. Really enjoyed our meal and server. Per covid they have sanitizer and gloves. Distancing is not strictly followed though so heads up to anyone following that guideline. read more

Also, not sure about this section of town ... don't see bad things going on at night but it's just real dark and real quiet.. read more

I had never even heard of Shoney's before I took a trip to Tennessee to visit my grandmother. I had my three-year-old, my grandma and my aunt with me when we stopped by for lunch. We decided we would enjoy the buffet for lunch, and enthusiastically selected our meals. My son is very picky, and there seemed to be a complete lack of child friendly foods on the buffet table. The potatoes and gravy were delicious. The macaroni and cheese was almost tasteless and way too thick. My son ate some Jello and pudding for lunch. It was an alright meal. As we were leaving the restaurant, I happened to look down and see a GIANT cockroach right by the front door. I will not be eating there again. read more

We were never waited on although we saw another woman who came in after us get waited on. So my sons--both lawyers, decided we weren't going to waste our money. Plus all the stares from customers, especially the man and his two young children in the booth behind us. Just rude. They clearly do not care for diversity. read more

Me and my boyfriend went in for the breakfast buffet, and it was so delicious. Everything was fresh, and they were constantly bringing up newly cooked food to the bar. We were skeptical because we haven't been to Shoney's in some years, but we were pleasantly surprised. The waitresses were so kind, and were quick to take our old plates and refill our drinks. Shoney's has always been a really great restaurant especially for the breakfast buffet. But lately almost every single Shoney's that I have went to in the Knoxville area and East Tennessee region has really been poor. This one takes the cake. How can someone mess up the contents of a number 10 can of nacho cheese? Well this location did when they put it on the breakfast bar. I think they added water because the stuff was runny as hell. You literally take it out of the can and put it in a container and put it on the bar. That is it. Yes someone at this location decide to make it thin. The eggs were burnt. Please tell me how you can burn powdered eggs? And the biscuits were not even good enough to put gravy on to eat because they were hard as hockey pucks. This was at 9 a.m. in the morning. Maybe I could understand if the bar was getting ready to close but the breakfast bar starts at what 6 a.m.? And at 9 most of the food on the bar was dried up and bad. And to top it all off I had to tell my server three times my drink order. And the epic finale was that I got sick literally 10 minutes after we left the restaurant. I will not now nor will I ever step foot in this Shoney's and probably no other Shoney's. read more

Well normally Barbara and I are pretty big on Shoneys. We like to go about once a week depending on if we get their coupon in the paper that week. The one on Chapman Hwy. works out for us because they have a bit more room for Barb's electric chair to get around the seating and buffet area. They also have lots of handicap parking. This one is nice because we always get the very front handicap spot, it feels like VIP service at somewhere more expensive. Almost every time they see us pull up in the van, someone comes out and sees if we need help getting unloaded and in the restaurant. Once we get seated and started at the buffet it is always great! They keep the food fresh and full, for $6.99 it really is a value. The only complaint I have ever had is one time a rude customer accused my wife of stealing butter packets because she had a handful of them in her purse. Thankfully they know us there and the managers knows Barbara brings a handful of her own butter packets because she prefers them at room temperature so she can spread it on her rolls easier. Because she brings them with her, he always lets her take a handful home to bring back the next time. They always go out of their way to make sure it is easy on us. I think the biggest draw for the buffet is the Saulsberry Steak! The main cook there, Tammy, makes this dish with love and you can tell. They won't give me the recipe so I guess we will just have to keep coming back! read more

My husband had to work today. We drove from West Knoxville to THIS Shoney's just for our Thanksgiving Dinner. We have had their breakfast bar at this restaurant many times & was looking forward to our holiday dinner with them. We called to verify they had the Traditional Sliced Turkey, Dressing, Giblet Gravy, Cranberry, pies, etc. The cashier answered as we were pulling in the parking lot around 7:30pm. She said yes. It is a buffet. We are open until 10pm. It cost about $13 per person & did not include a drink or taxes. After we were seated, drink order filled I went up to fix us a plate of food. They told me they were out of Turkey/Gravy. I asked could we get sliced turkey & was informed they don't serve sliced turkey on Thanksgiving. They do every other day of the year. The food was not hot. Limited choice in vegetables. The two last slices of pumpkin pie were messed up. No choice on the pie like we were told we would. The food bar was messy. The soups were very low. The floors were dirty as well as a lot of tables. The restroom was fairly clean. Most of the employees were nice & not grumpy having to work on a holiday. We appreciated that very much. We were extremely disappointed because when we called she could have told us they were out of Turkey/Gravy & did not serve Sliced Turkey when I asked. They should have posted on the door they were out of Turkey/Gravy & pies. The restaurant is easily accessible from Chapman Highway & near downtown Knoxville. We will never again plan a special occasion or holiday celebration at Shoney's. We do not recommend for holidays. (Just for the record normally Shoney's is one of my husbands favorite restaurants to dine.) read more

I've had good food there in the past. I ordered the vegetable bar, got a taco shell to eat with the beans and the server called me out and accused me of eating meat that I did not pay for. Obviously a taco shell alone is not meat and they need to make that more clear. read more
