I got the kimchi butter chicken with rice and Mac salad. First off let me say that the service is good. Two young happy girls who are very polite and friendly helped me out. So shout out to them. The wait for my food was about 20 min. I was the only one in there so that was kind of weird. But not a problem. Fresh food has a wait. The rice was basic. The Mac salad had a tuna like taste. Maybe they use tuna in it. Idk. But I didn't really like it. The kimchi chicken was ok. Kind of like katsu. First few bites were good. But after a while, I didn't enjoy it as much. I'm not too excited about paying $14 for thigh meat rice and macaroni. Those are all cheap. But I think the price is based on location. Nothing special here. I'm not completely disappointed. I love Rodeo 39 cuz I feel like there's always something for everyone here. Today, I decided to indulge in my inner (wannabe) Hawaiian and try Shootz for the very first time. The Hot Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken Sandwich was amazeballz. The outside was crispy and has the perfect amount of spice and the inside was flavorful and MOIST! It was like a party in my mouth and luckily the club was jumpin, jumpin'. Yummmm... The Spam Brûlée Musubi was also very good. It was pretty traditional but not as dry as many other places so that's a plus. Very savory. The Honey Coconut Shrimp Musubi was a bust. I mean, after eating the other items, this was a let down. It was ok. I'd eat it again if someone bought it but... their other items are far superior. The Soju Flight was $18 and I would like my money back please. The food is okay, service was good, ambiance is chill. The food court this restaurant is in has a lot of cool Asian restaurants that I would love to come back and try. As much as I wanted to love the kimchi butter, I personally felt like the most prominent flavor that over took the whole dish was butter. I got the spicy chicken and shrimp mix plate for around $20. The chicken and shrimp were very crispy and well cooked, but I couldn't get over how buttery it was. It's also not very spicy, if at all. I could only eat half the plate, and the macaroni was also very rich and heavy on the tuna and mayo, which didn't help with how much butter there was. Maybe some steamed/pickled vegetables could help cut the richness. For the price, I honestly would rather go to Onos, but this place was nice to try. read more

Honestly, I heard really good things about Shootz and decided to try it out. Shootz is located in a big plaza that had a lot of other restaurants. [Parking]: The parking was pretty bad, I'm definitely glad I found a parking space because otherwise, I'd be waiting a while to find a parking space. [Food]: I got the Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken plate combo (it comes with a drink and a spam musubi). I got the spam brulee spam musubi. The spam brulee musubi was honestly whatever. It wasn't really breath taking and the brulee didn't taste like anything. The spam didn't even look like it was coated in any sauce. Super different from how I make my spam musubi at home. Also the kimchi butter chicken plate was pretty tiny for the price I paid for it. I was expecting a lot more but overall the taste of the chicken was crispy and juicy. The rice was fluffy and the mac salad was alright to me. Overall, it's "mid". Next time I'll try out the chicken sandwich as that's apparently what they're known for but I think I'm probably going to be expecting the same. [Wrap up]: Definitely don't have super high expectations for this place since you'll end up feeling the same way I did. Even though I had super high expectations, the food was still pretty good, I'd give it a solid 7.5/10. Family members have been getting the kimchi butter katsu on repeat occassions, so of course had to give it a try. Ordered online and drove 30 mins down to pick up the family meal of the katsu with shrimp musubi. Never order for "pick up" on Google maps. All the different order options just tack on their margins for doing nothing. The ChowNow option showing No Service Fee is BS, the menu prices are much higher so they don't charge "service fee". Order direct from the restaurant to get their true menu price (think they use toast) https://www.shootzhawaiian.com/ Got to the Rodeo 39 or whatever mall this place is called on Saturday lunch time and it was a parking zoo. I guess people like the open air seating with all the people and music blasting here, not my cup of tea. Found out later, there is more parking on the back side and Shootz is on the back side anyway, so go to the back side if can't find parking in the front. 1pm pick up time, received text the order was ready at 1:02pm, so they are prompt. Was planning to take it back home to eat since the mall was just too hectic for me to enjoy a meal, but ended up there was a door to the back right at Shootz and the back side patios was less crowded and clean, so ate on the spot to make sure katsu didn't get soggy. The katsu was great quality and very tender. Flavor was kind of bland, but tasted clean and still addictive some how. Me, wife and kid almost ate up all of the chicken in the family meal! (the 3~4 pieces left, kid ate it up for dinner later too saying it was so good). Don't expect any flavor burst, but enjoy the clean, good quality katsu that's super tender and addictive. The mac salad with tuna was delish too. We chowed on mostly the chicken katsu and the mac salad and had tons of rice left afterward. The shrimp musubi was not good in my opinion. It was wrapped with too much dense rice and the shrimp pieces were small. The sauce added some sweetness which I didn't care for, but the dense rice just made it too much to enjoy. Think we tossed most after eating the first ones. I am thinking the spam brulee musubi has to be better, since it would add some salty flavor to the musubi, but was influenced by the shrimp version costing more ala carte, but could choose either one for family meal. I would recommend choosing the spam if ordering the family meal. I think if trying for the first time like I did, the best choice is probably the kimchi butter chicken katsu SANDWICH, since it seems to have all the good parts of the place that I would eat (chicken, mac salad, and bun has to be better than the watery rice). The dish was a bit salty, but the rice balances it out. Honey Coconut Shrimp Musubi 3/5 - The Musubi was sweet and savory, but a little too much on the sweet side. It tasted almost like dessert. Our server Tiny T let the four of us sample the soju cocktails: Blue Hawaiian, Paradise Tea, and Mango Tea Lemonade. She wanted us to like the fishbowl we were buying. If you decide to get the fishbowl, don't make the same mistake we did and only get original soju for the two sojus in the fishbowl. We thought the original and strawberry soju would conflict with the Blue Hawaiian flavor but instead it tasted like pure rubbing alcohol. The Blue Hawaiian flavor was still good but overpowered a bit by the original soju flavor. The gummies were delicious once you reach the bottom but hard due to soaking in all the alcohol and liquid. The Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken plate was still delicious as ever. We also tried the Jalapeno Garlic Shrimp. Not as spicy as you would expect from something with Jalapeno in the name. I only got to try the butter kimchee katsu plate, and that is what I am reviewing. The portion size was ok-for $13 I was expecting more of an L&L sized meal but I did appreciate that it wasn't served with a manini scoop of macaroni salad. So, when I first put the bite of moist chicken in my mouth, I noted the butter taste. Is it fried in butter? Dipped? I couldn't tell-but I tasted the butter and it wasn't oily. But that's really when the flavor ended. So then I looked around for some type of katsu sauce. But there wasn't any. So either there is one, and it wasn't packed in my order, or there isn't one, and that is it for flavor. Maybe there should be a drizzle of something on the top of the chicken??? I sat and tried to think of why "kimchee" was in the description of this dish as it was not tangy, spicy, or had any type of kimchee pieces in it. I think maybe the batter has some kimchee "spices" as the batter was on the redder side, but this was not kimchee chicken. The katsu chicken was mind-blowingly crispy and juicy--the best I've ever had. Even though the line was long, the service was fast, super friendly, and well worth the wait. Delicious hawaiian food that is different from your normal Hawaiian food options. Get the Kimchi butter katsu chicken! It is the best item on the menu. It is a nice flavor of buttery kimchi with a nice crunch. It's a little different than your average chicken katsu. We also got the Jalapeño Garlic Shrimp, but it was a bit salty. I'll probably won't get it again just because the Katsu was way better. If you look at my images, it looked like they burned the butter Becuase my shrimp were close to a black color. The Spam Musubi Brûlées are super good! The creme brûlée too is very different than what I've ever tried but it is rich in flavor and has a nice crunch due to the brûlée. If you upgrade you're meal to a combo, you get spam musabi and a beverage. They pre-pour out their sodas with ice and refrigerate it. This kinda resulted in me getting a watered down coke that lost a lot of its carbonation. I'd probably just prefer it in a can or honestly anything but a drink that is already watered down before I got to drink it. I'll definitely come again. read more

I do not understand the change in size and price for their sauces. Specifically for the kimchi butter, I understand you want to charge more for a container that is twice as big, but almost a 400% increase in price is absurd. The change seems unnecessary and they should start to understand that customers may reconsider visiting again based on these changes. Shootz is located in the super-cool Rodeo 39 food hall. The food hall is one of the best I've ever seen. It's really open with very tall ceilings and a super hip design. And a cool bar! Excellent. I had the hot kimchi butter chicken katsu sandwich because how could I not?! Just the sandwich costs only $8.99... or two for $14. And the size is kind of like the sandwich at Dave's. Not huge but not small. If you are starving, I'd get two. The sandwich itself is fairly good, with macaroni salad in the sandwich and a nice squishy bun. The chicken is perfectly fried. One thing I will say that sometimes there is too much of a good thing. Like the butter on this sandwich. It is really freakin' buttery.... like dripping. And the kimchi must just be a sauce, no actual kimchi that I could taste. It still packs a nice heat, though. If I were designing this sandwich, I'd ease off on the butter by 30% and add actual kimchi for texture. Then it could be epic. One pet peeve, wish they would not wrap your to-stay order in plastic and a plastic bag. It's kind of disgusting waste. Just give me a paper plate! Other than that, I'd still check it out. Pricewise, my shrimp plate was roughly 16.00. And some change. It came with 6 shrimp, rice and Mac salad. I had the kimchi sauce on the side. This is their signature sauce. The shrimp plate was very good. A solid 8/10. It was a fsir portion and the shrimp were delish. The butter kimchi sauce was okay. It was not spicey. Stumbled across Shootz watching a TikTok about Rodeo 39 one day. I wasn't originally intending on visiting; my partner and I were just driving along a road until we noticed Rodeo 39 to our left so we spontaneously decided to go inside even though we weren't hungry. So glad we decided to do so! :-) Rodeo 39 is a huge food hall with numerous restaurants, bars, stores, and more. The atmosphere here was incredibly nice, and even outside everything was beautiful too! There's a huge amount of parking and they share the large lot with other businesses like Raising Cane's around it. We decided to give Shootz a try since it sounded the tastiest to us at the time. They put a cool spin on foods; we ended up ordering the kimchi butter chicken katsu and the spam brulee musubi. The katsu dish was a nice serving for a light meal and honestly would've been perfect for one had we been hungrier at the time. A single order of spam brulee musubi is cut in half which made it perfect to share. When ordering, you insert your phone number and they conveniently send you a text to notify you when your order is ready. The line initially took us about 5 minutes to go through, whereas we waited maybe 15-20 for our meal to be done. The chicken katsu dish was nice - you could really taste the slight kimchi flavor it has! I appreciated how crispy it was and how the rice was cooked perfectly too. Shootz is objectively the best vendor in Rodeo 39 and the home of the best chicken sandwich I've ever had! Their katsu chicken is juicy yet crispy with a hint of sweet and spicy. Recently, however, I've been ordering the Kimchi Butter Katsu Chicken combo instead, which is just the katsu chicken from the sandwich on top of rice. This version isn't spicy like the sandwich, and also comes with Mac salad and your choice of musubi (the musubi is bomb by the way. I personally prefer the spam one) THAT BEING SAID... I recently went to Shootz because I heard they added soju cocktails to their menu. I tried the Blue Hawaiian soju cocktail, which was supposed to be like pina colada flavored... I didn't like it LOL. There were two distinct flavors in the drink: coconut milk and alcohol. And while I think the coconut part would've been delicious on its own, I think it did not pair very well with the soju. Maybe it could work if they used like... Malibu or Bailey's Irish Cream instead. But yeah I did not think the Blue Hawaiian was very good.
