I'm excited that The Meat House is here, but I walked away disappointed because this location had a lot less to offer compared to The Meat House in Canton. The service was solid, but the selection was lacking, especially with respect to grass fed beef and wild game. I could justify spending a few extra bucks here if the selection was awesome, but I'll buy direct from a place like Broken Arrow Ranch instead of looking through the freezer here and paying the markup. read more

Quite surprised by some of the reviews I've read on here. I have bought steak and pork here many times and haven't had anything less than a great piece of meat. I bought grinders for the first time yesterday and then came back again today. Wow, the steak tip grinder was unbelievable and the Branford point was awesome as well. Huge sandwiches and everything about them from the bread, to the meat, to the dill mayo was great. I see lots of people complaining about the prices and saying that they can go to big y or stop and shop for cheaper. Clearly, these people don't understand the concept of value. You will generally, if not always, pay a higher amount for a better product. There is no doubt that the meats I've purchased here are significantly better than those 2 other grocery stores and the price differential really isn't that much (even to someone like me, who doesn't have a ton of money). The staff has always been very friendly and informative to me. If eating good quality food is important to you, then you should definitely check this place out as a butcher and deli! read more

I was pretty excited the first time i went there. Everything is displayed nicely and the staff is attentive and knowledgeable. However, now that I've been there 4 or 5 times, I can say its just ok. What I mean is the value is just ok, as they get top dollar, but the quality is about the same that you can get at stop & shop or big y. The difference is that the supermarkets have lots of cheaper cuts so you have to be careful with your selection there, whereas everything at meat house is the good stuff. So if you have a good eye for selection, you can get a better deal at the supermarkets. However, if you're not sure what to get especially for a special occasion, then the expertise and service may be worth it. read more

I couldn't help smile a little when I walked though the door and was greeted by an enthusiastic girl shouting "HI WELCOME TO THE MEAT HOUSE!!" Ahh, a house built of meat. The Meat House is a chain with two locations in CT and several locations throughout MA and NH. Today I purchased two huge marinated chicken breasts (which cooked up great on my grill by the way), but I believe their main specialty is beef. They offer seafood too but I wasn't impressed with their selection or prices. There's a sign behind the seafood counter saying their fishing boats are day-in and day-out, meaning the fish is caught and brought to dock all within one day. That's great and all, but they don't say how long it takes to transport the fish from the dock to their store. Does that take three weeks? The whole staff was super enthusiastic to help me. However they seemed way overstaffed given the number of customers in the store. There were only 3 customers in the store for all 12 employees (yes, I counted 12 employees). I kind of have my doubts whether a place like this will survive in this location. A place like this needs a high volume of customers in order to maintain the freshness of the meats. Otherwise the meat expires and they lose mega amounts of money. Plus, the over staffing ain't helping their bottom line either. But I wish them lots of luck. On my first visit I tried their chicken. Shoreline Prime is one of the best butcher shops in Connecticut, I don't always get out that way but when we do, we will always find the time to shop there. Always found it a pleasant experience and my grill loves it. lol... Great beef tips and steaks, we have tried lots of different cuts of steaks and never had a bad one. Staff has always been very helpful with any questions. We love when we see one of their food trucks working an event near us, always have had a good experience. Almost forgot to mention, at times my work will take me out that way and the salad bar and prepared foods our great for a quick meal on the run. read more

Stopped in here yesterday to pick up two sandwiches, both grilled chicken on a roll. Everything was good and quite tasty. We waited a bit and saw two sandwiches on the counter before we were told they were ours. What completed the meal was the recommended chocolate mousse cake, which was out of this world. Absolutely disgusted with this butcher shop wannabe! My husband and I came in once before to look around and weren't overly impressed - mostly because of the prices. That was many months ago but we decided that we would order our Leg of Lamb for Christmas from the Meat House. We went in around December 15th or so to order the meat. The staff (kids) were playing grab-ass and it seemed chaotic - it was not busy. We asked numerous times to place an order until finally a woman got the "order binder" and started to take our information. We ordered an 8-9lb Leg of Lamb, bone in. She wrote it down properly with all of our information with a pickup date of December 27 and off we went. I didn't feel comfortable with this. About a week later my husband received a phone call regarding our order and if we wanted bone in or boneless...he verified bone-in and we were picking it up on December 27. Come Friday morning, my husband called to make sure the meat was ready and to find out what their hours were. He spoke to two people, one shoveled the phone off to someone else who seemed to have no idea but apparently said yes, our meat was ready. About two hours later we went to pick up the meat. I waited in the car as it should have been a quick in-and-out. 10 minutes later my husband comes out - meat less - and aggravated. Told me to call Whole Foods to see if they had any lamb. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? The disorganized, chaotic, un-professional Manager (?) in the store told him there was no meat for him to pick up. I don't even know where to start. Boy were they lucky I was IN the car!! She took absolutely no responsibility for this error and showed us the "order binder" multiple times telling us it had been ordered - yeah, great, it doesn't matter if it was ordered because it's not in our hands right now you worthless woman! After MUCH back and forth, they found a boneless lamb leg in the back for $12.99/lb vs the $9.99/lb bone-in. She ended up taking $1 off per pound which I still think was VERY inconsiderate. You messed up (big time) so you need to give us the item for the price of the meat we ordered. We're spending $80+ on a piece of meat we didn't even order. The woman was a mess and still tried shoving this binder in our faces as we were leaving proving the damn meat had been ordered. They all have horrible customer service. They should not be labeled as a Butcher as the meat comes already prepared. I am SO disgusted and will never shop here again. I just have so many questions - one - where did our meat go in the two hours from when we called and when we showed up? Shouldn't you have ACTUALLY looked in the fridge to make sure it was there? I'm getting freshly angered writing this episode again! On top of this, while figuring out where our meat was, another customer was looking for rabbit (or possibly duck, I forget) and when the employee weighed it, it was $16.99/lb and came to over $90. The gentleman was taken aback and walked out. How can this place charge such outrageous prices for things you can get at Big Y or Stop & Shop just down the street? What happened to the customer is always right. Worst customer service ever. I would have been slightly better if they had given us the boneless for the cost of the bone-in and eating the loss themselves for their own mistake. That was problem number one and could have easily been fixed. Game Over. I hope they close and get out of Branford. read more

I was in the area and stopped in to grab some stuff to grill I noticed the prices were high so I ended up only getting a few sides. We needed Hamburger rolls so I grabbed 2 packs and had the women at the register check on a price of them, while paying. She said 4.00 I nicely said no thank you, the women Rudely handed them back to me and said "OK YOU CAN GO PUT THEM BACK NOW" and wanted me to go put them back out on the shelf as I was paying for the rest of the order. I was more then embarrassed and insulted. I was so mad i ended up not purchasing items that we had and we left. To the older women with the black hair, Little did you know my Aunt Carol is a regular in the store and gets catering for her business quite frequently She nor myself will NEVER be back. I am not sure what to make of this place. When I went there after they first opened, it seemed like everything was fresh and really good, over time they have declined. I had their steak and cheese sandwich, the first time it was phenomenal and the second time it was downright atrocious. I usually get steak, ribeye for a while recently changed to filet. The filets are pretty good, but the last time I went they did not have the filets that I usually buy $20/lb, they had some kind of prime which was $30/lb. I did not want to switch as when I tried the grass fed ribeye once, it was unedible. I would up getting the rib-eye, the taste of the ribeye has been a little off. The marinated steak tips were great at the beginning, recently something is a little off, maybe they sitting around too long or something. Pros: Attentive staff who know their stuff, very clean. Cons: Quality decline IMHO. read more

Lip Service; that's what you get at Shoreline Prime, Branford CT. I visited their store about two weeks ago and chatted with Paul about getting some beef ribs that were hard to find at other butcher shops. He told me that he'd be able to do them, and asked if I wanted to place an order. He didn't know what the price per pound was going to be off the top of his head, so I asked him to take my personal information, and he agreed to call me. He never did. Today, I went to the store again, and upon my entering the store, Paul ducked out of sight. Three people asked me if I needed help, and I asked for paul. Ten minutes went by, no Paul. A daffy older lady behind the counter said, "you're the one here for beef ribs, aren't you?" I replied I was. We're not going to be able to do them, she said. I said, alright....again, "where's Paul" I asked. (how would she have known if I never dealt with her in the past? Paul probably didn't want to face the music and was having his henchmen do his dirty work)Finally Paul emerged "from the back". He apologized for not calling me--no excuse at this point. Even worse, he confirmed that he wouldn't be able to do them. LOUSY, LOUSY service. I have been shopping on/off at the Meat House since they opened in 2012. I would like to first say BUYER BE WARE... I recently learned that quite a few of there popular products have been miss labeled by a few friends who used to be avid customers when they first opened but have recently stopped shopping there due to lacking over all selection and quality of the foods. I said to my self no way, I must investigate. Example number one is the salmon that i love but was informed that the price and tag claims it is (wild salmon &12.99/lb) but in fact it is farm raised salmon- information provided by a helper behind the fish counter wearing glasses and smelling of cigarette smoke. I was under the impression that it was illegal to mis-name any product. I was approached a manager, i believe her name was Camille, 3 workers sent to find her and 10 minutes later she appeared, her answer to my question was " well do you like it? Then what does it matter whether its farm raised or not?" As she rudely notified me she was the owners sister and had more pressing issues to handle in the back. Example two my wife went into pick up filet mignon for a dinner party we were having (filet mignon $22.99/lb) when she asked some one called "Dave the butcher" what grade cut it was he replied "top choice" as she walked away product in hand she over heard another worker say isn't that filet (no role) only to find out later that no role is a far less superior product then top choice and should be sold around 12.99-14.99/lb at most. Feeling totally taken advantage of my wife called and asked to speak to a manager, after being passed off too three different "butchers" on the phone a lady also by the name of Camille got on the line and stated "what seems to be the problem?" My wife asked her what was the cut of there filet mignon and she replied "prime grade" more confused then ever my wife decided it was time to get off the phone because of the never ending excuses and down right obnoxious comments made by the supposed "General Manager" as she originally introduced her self as. We decided that was enough for us to take our chances buying meat again at a grocery store till a real butcher shop opens in town. Really disappointing because we will miss there amazing steak tips. As the product seemed to start to improve late fall now i'd say the store is in serious trouble and would be amazed if it stayed open another year selling over priced mis-labeled meat. Wow, the customer service absolutely sucks! The butcher behind the case was nice and helpful but what is up with the others? There were employees that were straightening the shelves and standing behind the cash register that didn't bother to greet me once. instead, they seemed annoyed that I was there! One person went back through everything I picked up and put down and re-straightened it. Seriously? The lady behind the check out counter was even worse. I guess she wasn't up for small talk but a smile or "have a good day" would've been nice. There was a man and another woman talking behind the counter close to the doors and neither of them budged or even offer to get the door even though I was clearly struggling to hold a heavy bag of groceries and carrying a toddler. STEAK TIPS! The steak tips are excellent and it's tough to resist stopping in to pick some up every time I drive by Shoreline Prime. The prices aren't cheap, but you're getting a high quality product. The steak sandwiches are among the best I've ever had, very tender steak. The only other item I have purchased from Shoreline Prime were a few different varieties of burgers and I thoroughly enjoyed them.There seems to be a lot of awfully negative feedback about the staff, but I don't get it, everyone has always been courteous and helpful in my experience. read more

Walked in at 6pm on Sunday. They close at 7pm. walked up to the counter and asked for menu. Ignored. 3 seconds later I'm asked by the same person what I want. I said I need a menu and a minute. 1 minute later I was asked by a now disgruntled employee what I want. If it weren't Sunday I would have walked. Ordered a steak and cheese. Cheese not melted. I recently purchased 5 pounds of chicken wings from this deli for a small party. As soon as I got home i noticed how fowl they smelt, almost like rotten eggs.. I returned the next day to exchange for new ones and upon doing so, one of the workers told me that she now knows that they were bad yesterday from having multiple complaints about them already & that i was also charged 50% off with out my knowledge... Which makes me wonder..why would you sell meat that you know was bad to multiple people? and did you give me the 50% discount because you knew the meat was bad? I had two of their sandwiches at the food truck by the Stony Creek Brewery. The steak and cheese is an order of magnitude better than something that typically goes by that name. OK--I've been a really loyal customer since their opening in 2012 as The Meat House. I used my card and often was up to the 300 points to get my free $10 worth of meat. Since they changed their name to Shoreline Prime, things have taken a nose dive. The service was always ok--it is horrendous. Slow acknowledgment to one's presence from behind the counter, irritation that they have to wait on you and NEVER go in toward closing time--you will encounter major rudeness. I have waited in line with one slow person on the register and another four or five people walking around who could have easily helped check out the customers patiently waiting in line. Their steak tips and marinated chicken are still excellent--the quality of the hamburger I purchased this week was poor. I have always sworn that their hamburger was the BEST around--no longer true. I recently attended a wedding that was catered by shoreline prime. Let me just say that the experience was out of this world. The staff was courteous,friendly and a joy to be around. Now the food .... WOW the steak was cooked to perfection really didn't need a knife. And the Mac and cheese did not taste like it was from a box. Called in a salad for lunch today for the first time, it was amazing! I got steak tips and roasted veggies over fresh spinach (sounds a little weird I know). The steak was so good and the veggies even better. I was expecting the roasted vegetables to consist of solely onions and peppers but was pleasantly surprised with the assortment, asparagus, squash, red onion, brussel sprouts, so great and nothing was over cooked or mushy! I was a little shocked at reading some of the bad reviews here, although I've only been there a couple times. I was going that way today and had an urge for a really good steak dinner. I'm not sure what the price difference was as I'm not much of a shopper, but I bought two N.Y. strip steaks that literately melted in my mouth. No need for even a steak knife!
