This spot has become a favorite for my husband and I for a simple happy hour or dinner especially because we can have our pup on the patio with us. As a San Diego native I feel like we stray away from hotel restaurants to avoid a super touristy spot but I feel like this place is a true hidden gem. They have a pretty good happy hour and we love the chips and salsa. I know it sounds simple but the chips are perfect and the salsa has great flavor and who doesn't love guac! I have to say the burger is one of my favorites I have had in awhile it is super juicy and the fries and crispy. They do have parking onsight here that you can get validated as well so you don't have to worry about searching for parking. Service can sometimes be a little slow but when you are literally right on the water you just get to enjoy the view and a drink outside on a nice day. We will be back very soon!

I would highly recommend this place in. Alessandra waited on my girlfriend and I and she went above and beyond because she is very friendly, professional and deserves a 5 star review. The cheeseburger was amazing in order just the way I had asked. Great Pinot Noir and scenery. Will definitely be back! Thank you, Gina

The views here are incredible. You are basically eating right at the beach. The bar area inside is also super nice. The mussels we got were my favorite. The Greek salad was good also but thought my chicken came out a little dry. Food and drinks were a little pricy but you are right at the beach. I would definitely come back for drinks at the bar and appetizers again. Overall it was a great atmosphere and service was great.

The salads were nice, but I was picturing some nice bread and instead we were brought out some dinner rolls. Service was good.

Beautiful view of the beach from their patio. It was pretty empty during their happy hour on a Tuesday. I did order the buffalo chicken fries and it's basically fries topped with chicken covered in buffalo sauce and blue cheese. I got it without the ranch. You need to really really love buffalo sauce to order that (which I don't). The sauce kinda makes the fries soggy too. I got the Ocean Rift too and I liked that a lot.

Our group just landed in San Diego and checked into our hotel. We asked for lunch recommendations, near the beach, and told to go to The Shores Restaurant in the in the La Jolla Shores Hotel. It was a busy, warm Sunday, so we weren't able to get a table outdoors, so we got a table inside by the window so we can enjoy the beach views. It's a small menu, so it was easy to decide what to order: - Salsa & Guacamole: Very good. The corn tortillas were thick and warm. Guacamole was simple but enjoyable. - Baja Tacos: Very good. About as perfect a bite as possible. Crispy mahi, warm tortilla, fresh pico de gallo, and perfect ratio of aioli, lime and salsa. Service is nice enough, and met expectations. I was probably really hungry, but the combination of great weather, great views, and straight-forward good food with good company - I really enjoyed my lunch.

My first time visiting this restaurant, I was struck by how beautiful it looked right on the beach. I went around 6 p.m. on a Wednesday evening, and it was fairly busy with about a 20-minute wait for a table. Fortunately, I was able to order at the bar while waiting, so by the time I was seated my food was ready. The dinner menu is on the smaller side, but I went with the halibut fish plate recommended by the staff. It was delicious, fresh, and well-prepared--though a bit lighter than I expected. Overall, it's a charming restaurant in a great location with a welcoming atmosphere.

I come here about one time a year. Really loved this last trip! Our waiter, Will, was amazing! He was so nice and continued to keep checking on us. They actually have affordable burgers and sandwiches this time. The charbroiled chicken sandwich was so good with french fries. We celebrated a birthday and they brought out a complementary banana split with a super fun bright fireworks candle. The view is why we come! Breathtaking! We'll be back!

OK, so this review could've easily been five stars. Let me tell you why. Let's start off with all the good, and then I will get to the bad. So our waiter was Tony. My goodness, he was so amazing with everything. Tony was on point; he knew his stuff. He knew his menu. We couldn't have been happier with the service that Tony provided. The food was OK. The views were beautiful. We really enjoyed our dinner now. Let's get to the bad ... OK, so I haven't been to this place in a while. I've been there before when they had the outdoor patio area that is now under construction, so I called before coming in as I never go to a restaurant without making a reservation. I spoke to a hostess, and I specifically wanted to sit in the fire pit area. She said, and I quote, "Fire pits are first come, first served." I was so surprised to hear this. I even asked, "Are you sure?" Since those are pretty desirable for sunset, which is what we were trying to do, watch the sunset, sit by a warm fire pit because San Diego weather gets chilly in the evening. So when we arrived, the hostess that greets us is Riley now. Riley goes and tells us that basically we are crazy because we need a reservation for the fire pits and a reservation for the restaurant, and she literally storms off after I tell her that I called and I spoke to the hostess at the restaurant who specifically told me the complete opposite. She, leaves us standing there to go confront this hostess, and then comes back. She makes the biggest deal about the fire pit, mind you the restaurant is completely empty. She states, " The fire pits are completely booked with reservations, none of those reservations showed up till like 6 o'clock. We got there around 4:30 anyways. I did not appreciate Riley's attitude. I think she probably can use some better training because I noticed she did this similar thing with everybody, not the storming off part, but telling them that things were reserved and they were reserved for parties that never showed up. I was very happy where we ended up sitting! Also something to note the fire pits do not have an umbrella for the shade. I probably will be back to this restaurant because I love a good view, but I hope to not deal with Riley in the future.

Great place! Husband and I stopped here for brunch, had the tuna tostada, shrimp tacos and some delicious cocktails. Great service and atmosphere! We will come back for sure!

Ambiance is excellent, right on La Jolla shores. Almost every seat has an ocean view. Sitting outside is also a great experience right next to the boardwalk. Food and service are good.

Food was so good. The seafood pasta is a must. It is very creamy and has a lot of seafood in it. The burger was large and juicy, and worth it for the price. The steak frites were cooked perfectly. The fries are super crispy, would recommend the fries and seafood pasta. Only downside is that the fireplaces are first come first serve. Other than that, this is my favorite restaurant by far! Beautiful beach views

Parking was free and easily validated for the beautiful restaurant. Service was excellent. The menu was disappointing. Chef lead Christmas Eve fixed three course offer with Turnip Bisque? Are you kidding me? Seriously? We passed and ordered the Short Rib Ragout Papparadella. Pasta was way overcooked. If it had been my order it would've been returned to the kitchen. My Poke was ok, but the rice seemed dried out. Really, for the price, the food was way below expectations. Had our waiter not brought lots of olives with my warm martini, I'd have subtracted another star.

The ravioli was the standout of the night, thin pasta with just enough filling for a delightful bite. The bucatini all'amatriciana wasn't quite what I'm accustomed to, the guanciale was ground rather than diced, and the sauce leaned more toward a meat sauce with an oily finish, not really my style, though the pasta itself was cooked well al dente. The steak, on the other hand, was excellent. Cocktails were great, and the staff were attentive throughout. For dessert, the trio was a nice way to sample a few things, though I wish they offered smaller sampler portions instead of full-size pieces. The Basque cheesecake was excellent and the semifreddo was perfect with a nice crust. The chocolate torte was good but couldn't compete with the other two. Overall a strong dinner spot in La Jolla, especially for pasta lovers and sunset views.

For our entrees, we ordered the pistachio pesto pizza, raviolli, and beef ziti. The pizza was my favorite (i love anything pistachio) especially enjoyed the pistachio pesto. I appreciate the thin dough of raviolli and the ziti was good. Overall food was good. Our server's name was Kevin, he was friendly and gave great service.

Freaking religious experience…read more You'll want to set aside a couple hours for dinner at Duke's. Not because it's outdoors and has a great vibe, and helpful, friendly servers, which make you want to stay there for hours with your family, friends, or coworkers--although all of that is true. Not because it has a gorgeous view of the Pacific--which it does. Not even because of their piña coladas! No, my friend. It's because their sautéed Mac nut & herb-crusted fresh fish with mac salad is just *so good* but if you have any reverence for all that is good and true in this world, you'll have to stop every few bites, let your eyes roll back into your head a little, and enjoy it. It's just... slow. Now. First things first. Mac nut, mac salad. One is Macadamia nuts; one is macaroni. Hopefully my team member who raved about the mac salad does not read this and realize that I thought it was a salad of Macadamia nuts. I was like OK, that sounds weird, but I do love Macadamia nuts, so let's try it. She was right to rave. It was *delicious*. In fact, I think the fish and the salad kind of ran together a bit and made each other even more delicious. Look, I'm not sure how it worked, I just know it worked. Apparently for the dinner menu it only shows rice with the fish; ignore that. Just ask them to swap it out. Speaking of lunch, I did also have lunch at Duke's once. Got fish and chips. And let me tell you, the weirdest thing: Their *tartar sauce* was off the charts. I know. Who nails the tartar sauce? But it had this perfect zing to it, as though they got an idea from the usual malt vinegar and mixed it all in there. Given the quality of what I've had do far, you probably can't go wrong at Duke's. Get a reservation, ask for an ocean view--and give yourself plenty of time.

I was blown away at how delicious the French Toast was. The name is the "CARAMELIZED TAHITIAN VANILLA BEAN FRENCH TOAST with Fresh Blueberries or Bananas and Chantilly Cream, or a Grilled Pineapple". Jade gave away the secret ingredient to me and I was impressed. An applied Maillard reaction with brown sugar brought the French Toast a new level of yumminess. The Chantilly Cream took it over the top, not to sweet and very creamy. Yum!!! Also tried the "RASPBERRY TRUFFLE MOCHA St. George Vanilla Bean Vodka. She explained that because they serve food quickly, they didn't want to seat me or have me order coffee while I was waiting for the second person. Once we were seated at 11:00, it took about 25 minutes, and me having to flag down our server, before we were able to place our food order. What made this especially confusing was that the table behind us, a party of seven, was seated with only two people present. They were served coffee while waiting for the remaining five members of their group, which seemed inconsistent with the explanation I had been given. The food itself was good, although the chicken sausage I ordered was not served hot. During the meal, no one checked on us to ask how everything was or whether we needed anything. At the end, we also had to get the attention of another server in order to receive our bill. The service has always been excellent on previous visits, which is why this experience was disappointing. That said, we've enjoyed this restaurant for a long time, and it's one of our family's favorite places to eat. Because of our past experiences, I'd be happy to return and hope this was simply an unusually busy or off day for the team.

The restaurant is located at 1235 Coast Bivd; while street parking is available there, it was extremely difficult to find a spot due to the heavy traffic from visitors to La Jolla Cove-you can essentially consider parking there impossible. Instead, we found street parking on Prospect Street, just one block away, and walked about five minutes to reach the restaurant. My friend and I ordered the Lemon Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes, the Cove Combo, and the Plain Pancakes. The location of the restaurant is beautiful as you are right on the beach and you have a great view of the ocean and the seals that hang around the area. Supposedly people have complained about a "fishy smell", the ocean does smell fishy and the restaurant can't control the environment. Megan was our waitress and she was amazing. She was full of energy, polite, professional, and checked on us often to make sure everything was going well. I ordered the Fig & Goat Cheese Burger, medium rare, and a Vanilla Italian Soda. The soda was refreshing and wasn't like your usual soda. The vanilla flavor was not overpowering and I enjoyed it. The wait time for the burger was a bit long, but I didn't mind as I watched the seals play on the beach. Unfortunately, the burger was not medium rare, but that wasn't a big deal as it was full of flavor and juicy. The meat itself had a nice hearty flavor that pair nicely with the goat cheese. Surprisingly, goat cheese on a burger is a great combo that brings it all together. The sweet and savory with a creamy texture made me craving for more. The bun was soft and firm as well. I ordered tater tots on the side and they were perfect. Golden and crispy on the outside while being soft and fluffy on the inside. They make their ranch in-house and it was one of the best tasting ranch sauces that I've tried. The ranch was light, refreshing, and had a dill flavor. Overall, I enjoyed my time very much. The meal was a nice refresher that didn't make me feel guilty or tired afterwards. I will be coming back.
