Happy June! Covewood at Mission Bay Resort We've been to this resort for a few months where we play pickleball and finally decided to try this restaurant. It's tucked in the back of the hotel and facing the ocean. Our server was a little slow overall to take our order as well as get us our check. We had to remind him a few times that we were ready for our bill. The food was delicious though. My husband got the Benedict and I got the veggie omelette. We shared the marzipan French toast and it was so good!

STRONG COCKTAILS (4 stars) Got the memo late. I never knew until I felt a little stuck (ha!) but I guess people know that this place serves up strong cocktails. - FOOD/DRINKS: drinks greater than food - PRICE: resort/hotel prices - SERVICE: meh - AMBIANCE: chill, nice, bay front ORDER PEACH ELDERFLOWER SPRITZ ($14) - grey goose essences white peach and rosemary, St. Germain, prosecco, soda. WOW. This was taste my and yah hit pretty strong too without really knowing it. It was a good one! lol. HIGHLY RECOMMEND PEI MUSSELS ($21) - rouille, tomato-shellfish emulsion, fine herbs, and grilled sour dough. The presentation was really nice. The tomato base was just ok, the mussels were plump and tender, with fresh herbs which looked like maybe cilantro micro-greens. I think I liked the grilled sour dough the best plain and when dripped into the broth. CHOCOLATE CAKE W/ ICE CREAM ($10) - must save room for dessert. This was good! If you love chocolate this was rich but not too sweet and balanced out with the vanilla ice cream. I thought this was the best choice out of the 4 available. RECOMMEND SERVICE Weird service. You have to wait to be helped at the front of the restaurant yet there were some tables occupied and no front staff - several people were confused how to get a seat. Several staff walking about but chatting amongst themselves. If choosing the bar area it's them seat and serve yourself - order at the window next to the bar. And go back there and pay your bill after. Sat outside in the bar area. The one person I found did their job very well was the kitchen staff that came out and delivered the plate. It was subtle but that was the most customer service received as nobody else here gave a sh!t. I wish my tip went to him. Afterwards you go back to the bar and pay your tab. Yes I'm def coming back... for cocktails. Don't care for the food. Until the next review...

Great location, wonderful outdoor seating, fantastic service. Stayed at the resort and enjoyed brunch. Chilaquiles were amazing. Birria was super savory and just the right amount. Tortillas thick and a combination of crispy and chewy. Loved the sprinkling of fresh red onions. Eggs were sunny side up with a crispy bottom. French toast was very good, not overly sweet and stuffed with marscapone cheese. Coffee was warm and free flowing. Creamer came in a unique stainless steel carafe. Water glass full all the time. We'll definitely return to enjoy the view and people watching!

Alright, I probably wouldn't go back, mainly because there are better restaurants in San Diego. We ended up here because we were staying at the hotel and it was super convenient just a few steps away and right on the oceanfront. That said, the service was great. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and the food came out quickly. Apps: Clam Chowder: Highly recommend. This was probably the highlight of the meal. Rich, flavorful, and comforting. Calamari: Also good. Crispy, cooked well, and not greasy. Entrees: Cioppino (7/10): The seafood was cooked well and tasted fresh, but the broth/sauce lacked the depth of flavor I was hoping for. Short Rib Bolognese (6.5/10): Very filling and perfectly fine, but nothing particularly memorable. There are stronger pasta dishes elsewhere in the area. Overall, the location and service were the best parts of the experience. If you're staying nearby and want something convenient with a nice ocean view, it's a solid option, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return.

Food was great after a spa day. Service was prompt and the burger was high quality and well flavored. The truffle fries were excellent. The location is right on Mission Bay, so I sat outside. It is a casual location where your San Diego casual clothes.

Came to have bruch with a group of ladies on a Saturday. My reserved table was outside on patio. It was a nice day but the wind would blow every so often. Our waiter did turn on the heater for us. They accommodated a few more ladies who showed up late. So we ended up with 2 large tables and one small. My margarita and fish tacos were delicious. I will be back.

A few of us ladies decided to have brunch here to kick off 2026. It's a nice looking restaurant but the food & service not so great .

The burger. So juicy with truffle fries

Celebrated a bday party for our young niece. The service is great and attentive including the awesome staff taking family pics. Wish we could have sat outside but it was raining and slightly cold. The ambiance and set up of the restaurant is superb. Everyone loved their food and they do have a kids menu. The burger had bacon jam and it was so juicy and delicious. We shared the burger and the Benedict. The birria was decent but the eggs were cooked flawlessly and poached so well. The spicy sauce and spicy potatoes were great. Overall would love to come back.

All the above! The food, service, and ambience is five stars. The view of the bay is calm and serene. They had healthy dishes like salads and you can add a protein or some heartier entrees like a burger or club. The club is my favorite and it's so big, you can share it. I recently ordered the shrimp tacos. I'll be back!

We came here for dinner near sunset in March and sat out on the patio. Make sure to bring sunglasses to deal with the glare until the sun goes down and bring a light sweater as it gets cooler near the water. The view is nice and the atmosphere is relaxing. The food is ala carte and the restaurant charges surcharges, tax and gratuity for people over 6 in count. The food was just ok in my opinion. There was nothing that stood out as a "must come back" calling. I would recommend the scalloped potatoes as a side and key lime pie from our experience.

I have a preference for restaurants by any body of water. Covewood Restaurant is one of them. It's located at San Diego Mission Bay Resort offering upscale coastal dishes. I'm always sold on an intimate indoor/outdoor atmosphere. Dining here was very positive. Barrett, the Manager, was a gem. He was very knowledgeable and super friendly. The rest of the staff who came to my table were really attentive. I appreciated them checking on me. Thank you all for the stellar customer service!! I enjoyed each dish. The food was absolutely delicious. When it came down to the dessert, I couldn't finish the apple crisp (Lol). The topping was a little different to what I'm used to. In my opinion, it was more of an apple crumble than an apple crisp. All in all, très chic très bon!!! So good...got me speaking French ;-)

First off, the little vase of fresh pink mums and yarrow sitting on our table set the whole tone. Small touch, but it made the space feel warm and intentional, like someone actually cares about the details here. Then the focaccia arrived and I nearly canceled the rest of the order just to keep eating that. Fluffy, herby, golden on top, served with a little pool of good olive oil and balsamic and a sprig of rosemary for good measure. Simple bread done right is a great sign for what's coming. The corn soup absolutely stole the show for me -- silky, sweet, savory, dotted with little corn-studded toasts, chili oil, toasted nuts, and edible flowers on top. It looked like something out of a magazine and tasted even better. Genuinely one of the prettiest bowls of soup I've had in a while. The meatballs in broth with olives and fresh herbs were comforting in that "I want to eat this on a rainy day" kind of way, and the sliced beef with blood orange, trout roe, and microgreens was such a fun, unexpected flavor combo -- bright citrus against rich, tender meat, with little pops of roe for texture. Chef's kiss. And then the fry bread with braised meat stew and pickled onion at the end? Absolute knockout. That fry bread was crispy-chewy perfection, made for scooping up every last bit of that rich, saucy stew. Everything here felt thoughtful -- not overly fussy, just food made by people who genuinely enjoy feeding people well. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. If you're in Mission Hills and want a meal that feels like a warm hug with excellent execution, this is your spot. Make reservations ahead of time!!! Super worth it.

With that said, let me start with my high hopes of Jimmy's based on Yelp reviews from fellow Elites. We came here with a large group to celebrate my son's birthday. Reservations were made in advance knowing we had a large party of 13 and this places seemed like a pretty popular spot. I chose this place to celebrate my son's 23r birthday for their burgers & location (right off the Marina). The hostess was cordial when accommodating my reservation. She even asked if I had other needs and just mentioned I have a dad with advanced Alzheimer's so they are aware of a guest need. Upon arriving, hostess was pleasant and expectant of our arrival. We sat down pretty promptly on the outdoor patio. Our waitress greeted us as we got settled. Mentioned all their food comes fresh. Proteins are not frozen and fish caught local. This got us all excited. She took our drink orders and soon after our meals. Things were good. Until it wasn't. Our reservation was at 6:30p. We still sat at our tables 7:51p with no food yet. Our waitress was very hard to find. My dad was getting very ansy. We had to flag down another waitress who was serving another table of 13 who arrived after us and was almost finished with their food. Food finally came out after 1.5 hours!! We were so disappointed by 1) getting our food in late 2) our food was cold!! My husbands mashed potatoes, cold. My son's gf short rib, cold, my fries, soggy, and my fish sandwich, hard. They offered to replace our food but after waiting that long, and with a dad who needs to get back home, we said no! The manager did offer her apologies and asked what we needed, I honestly couldn't give her an answer. The experience was just awful for all of us!! My brother had to ask 3 times for a box for his leftovers. The bus boy was seriously clueless. To top it off, there was a man in the women's bathroom when my sons' gfs were in there. What is going on here???? Why 2 stars, instead 0? because honestly the Manager, Danielle, tried to do her best to make our experience better. If it wasn't for her and me feeling bad for such an unbelievable disappointing experience. It honestly took me aback. Manager tried her best to make it up with comping desserts. I was told the Brookie was good. She took $100 off our bill and gave 2- $50 gift cards to come back. I honestly don't think I'll be using them. Caution, but you may have a better experience than our family.

The food overall was quite good. The menu reminded me a bit of Kettner Exchange with the shareable, small-plate style, so it's a great place to come with a group and try a variety of dishes. My favorite of the night was the Bone Marrow & Tartare - rich, flavorful, and something I'd absolutely order again. The Inihaw Pork Belly was tender with great flavor, and the Miso Black Cod was perfectly cooked and buttery. It's hard to go wrong with black cod, but this one definitely delivered. The only dish I'd probably skip next time was the Oyster Sisig. It wasn't bad by any means, but it just wasn't memorable enough for me to order again, especially with so many other standout dishes on the menu. Service was friendly, but it felt a little slow throughout the meal. We had to ask multiple times for butter and a few other items before they finally arrived. By the time the duck came out, we were already too full to really enjoy it, so my friend ended up taking it home. I can see why so many reviewers rave about the creative, chef-driven menu and the quality of the ingredients. The atmosphere is lively without feeling too loud, making it a great place for date nights or celebrations. While the service could have been a bit more attentive, the food was enjoyable enough that I'd still come back to try more of the menu.

It's a good date spot if you can snag seat on the window, looking out at the ocean. Sometimes I time it for sunset. I haven't been here in awhile, but it looks like they had an interior designer give it a makeover, and it turned out super good. Very happy that they chose comfy chairs. I'm in my 40s, so it's appreciated as I get old. It was a Sunday and they had just sat two large parties, so they said it would be a 45min wait. Luckily we got 4 seats at the bar. Our bartender was super friendly and attentive, even though she was busy. There's a decent beer list and full bar, so everyone was happy. My go-to is the woco moco. I remember it being larger and needing to split it with a friend, which wasn't the case this time. Order your egg sunny side and fried rice. My brother got the chilicilas, half green, half red with carnitas. He loved it. My step dad is traditional and got the standard breakfast. The hash browns are the patties, like at Trader Joe's. He cleaned his plate. I use to always order wings. Not sure if they are still on the menu, but if you like wings, order them. Salt and pepper style.

They are super accommodating with any…read moredietary restrictions (one person in our party is allergic to dairy and doesn't eat pork, and they were able to tailor dishes accordingly). Definitely on the pricier end for certain dishes but many of them are well worth it! - sourdough bread: good but also why are we spending $16 here. can't say it's worth - ahi tartare: no notes, everything hit, would come back for this alone - steamed clam and mussels: these were some meaty af mussels. delicious! the clams were tiny & pathetic tho and can't say I loved having the chorizo in there - charred broccolini: honestly don't remember this well but i had no complaints - grilled oysters: another fav of mine!!! a must get - hearth roasted carrots: the yogurt & pesto were on the side (due to dairy restrictions) but the pesto was SO. GOOD. paired beautifully with the carrots!!!!! I'm dying to know how to make this at home myself - branzino: good but would skip. I do typically like fish entrees but this wasn't overly impressive. could've used more sauce - NY strip: our favorite entree!!!! paired SO with the bone marrow - duck: super tender and fell right off the bone!!! our second fav entree - almond joy: incredible dessert, every bite I felt like I was getting a little something new. vanilla ice cream in the middle. LOVEEED this as our ending to dinner

Wasn't tooooo much looking forward to it, but it fit all the Birthday Dinner check marks and you can't down talk a place if you haven't been there. First. Listen. Everyone's using open table. But Fort Oak, tell Open Table to chill. I used open table to reserve about 4 days in advance, but still got a TON of emails, and a ton of notifications. Including one that, if I didn't respond to it, would cancel my reservation. Then 3 follow ups asking me to review Fort Oak. Haysuse on a pogo stick, that was almost a detractor from the actual dinner. Is this dinner or a past due bill sent to collection agency? I digress. First, our waiter Johny E, phenomenal. Dude knows wine in ways that are supernatural. Spot on recommendations. Second. Put on your Pulp Fiction "5 dollar shake" face about a 50 dollar pork chop. A FIFTY DOLLAR PORK CHOP. Waiter, who had already proven he know WTF was what, simply said "we're known for it, you will probably enjoy, people rave about it". So, I mean, when in Rome. Johny wasn't lying. It's a pretty @#$#ing good pork chop. Color me amazed. You can be skeptical. You might say I was just trying to justify having spent 50 on a pork chop. Try it. Stunning. I don't know if it's the best I ever had, but I can't remember a better one. Over all, they nail the experience, the food, and wrap it up in a bow. It is always busy, so a reservation is best (I'd call vice using that @#$# open table app, I swear). Shout out about Johny - in fact, ask for him to be your waiter, he a star.
