The Chicken Sandwich (fried) was absolutely delicious! I loved the unique slaw and sauce that was on the VERY SOFT ciabatta bread! I only wish that there was a better ration of bread to chicken (there was a a nice amount of extra bread left over). The homemade kettle chips and French Fries were both equally good. My children also liked their food (pancakes and mini burgers). And, the Piña Colada was absolutely amazing!!! This is the perfect place to walk along the water and enjoy a good meal. An evening out on their patio with a view of the bay was magical. We visited the resort in November 2025 and stayed the night Photo also included of the courtyard view from our patio. We dined on the outside patio which had plexiglass walls and plenty of heaters that made this very comfortable on a cool November evening. The wait staff was so attentive, checking in frequently and answering any questions. And they have a nice selection of good wines at reasonable prices. Food was so excellent. Menu includes enough items to please anyone. From raw (get the Hamachi Crudo), chicken, pork chops, steaks, ribs, seafood, vegetables dishes, and pasta. This was our dinner, and wows on all of them. Hamachi Crudo $24 with yuzu vinaigrette, avocado, chili oil, sorrel. Miso Black Cod $47 with smoked cauliflower purée, shaved asparagus, toasted sesame, ninja radish, yuzu beurre blanc. Cioppino $46 with mussels, scallops, clams, snapper, shrimp, saffron-tomato emulsion, rouille (a spicy French-style elevated mayonnaise), and grilled sourdough. Met a friend at Mission Bay for a walk and decided to stop in here for dinner. It's right on the bay with a beautiful view from their front outdoor patio. We were seated right away. Our server was very nice and friendly. He took our orders and the food arrived pretty soon after. The wedge salad was perfect for splitting between two people. The lettuce was fresh and crisp. You have to wait to be helped at the front of the restaurant yet there were some tables occupied and no front staff - several people were confused how to get a seat. Several staff walking about but chatting amongst themselves. If choosing the bar area it's them seat and serve yourself - order at the window next to the bar. And go back there and pay your bill after. Sat outside in the bar area. The one person I found did their job very well was the kitchen staff that came out and delivered the plate. Happy June! Covewood at Mission Bay Resort We've been to this resort for a few months where we play pickleball and finally decided to try this restaurant. It's tucked in the back of the hotel and facing the ocean. Our server was a little slow overall to take our order as well as get us our check. We had to remind him a few times that we were ready for our bill. The food was delicious though. My husband got the Benedict and I got the veggie omelette. Great location, wonderful outdoor seating, fantastic service. Stayed at the resort and enjoyed brunch. Chilaquiles were amazing. Birria was super savory and just the right amount. Tortillas thick and a combination of crispy and chewy. Loved the sprinkling of fresh red onions. Eggs were sunny side up with a crispy bottom. French toast was very good, not overly sweet and stuffed with marscapone cheese. Coffee was warm and free flowing. Creamer came in a unique stainless steel carafe. Water glass full all the time. Alright, I probably wouldn't go back, mainly because there are better restaurants in San Diego. We ended up here because we were staying at the hotel and it was super convenient just a few steps away and right on the oceanfront. That said, the service was great. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and the food came out quickly. Apps: Clam Chowder: Highly recommend. This was probably the highlight of the meal. Rich, flavorful, and comforting. Calamari: Also good. Crispy, cooked well, and not greasy. Entrees: Cioppino (7/10): The seafood was cooked well and tasted fresh, but the broth/sauce lacked the depth of flavor I was hoping for. Short Rib Bolognese (6.5/10): Very filling and perfectly fine, but nothing particularly memorable. There are stronger pasta dishes elsewhere in the area. Overall, the location and service were the best parts of the experience. If you're staying nearby and want something convenient with a nice ocean view, it's a solid option, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. read more

This is our second time at the Covewood. The first time was wonderful. This time was disappointing. The drinks were good as was the dessert. The burger which was ordered medium arrived well done and the fries were cold. The chicken sandwich was tasty but the chicken was very dry. The service was also disappointing. After our food was delivered no one checked on us until it was time for dessert. We ran out of water and couldn't find someone to refill our glasses so I found the water dispenser and did it myself. We were here for a birthday lunch and live in town and are not likely to return. read more

We ordered a seafood platter- like a charcuterie but with crab and shrimp and sashimi . We had a bite of the sashimi tuna, then picked up a crab leg- it was frozen solid, same with the shrimp. So we returned it. So strange. How did that even get served? But an interesting and troubling part was the response from the server, and I assume , their manager. When we told them of the issue, and that we needed to send it back- they both said "I'm sorry it was not up to your standards". There was no shock or confusion- Someone knowingly served a table hard-as-a-rock frozen food. There was no way it could have been plated without knowing this. We would have easily been ok with "sorry we are out of this today". If an employee, or group of employees are serving food with so little care, I would want to know if it was at my restaurant. We love the property and had a mostly wonderful time, but this part was a D rating. read more

I have a preference for restaurants by any body of water. Covewood Restaurant is one of them. It's located at San Diego Mission Bay Resort offering upscale coastal dishes. I'm always sold on an intimate indoor/outdoor atmosphere. Dining here was very positive. Barrett, the Manager, was a gem. He was very knowledgeable and super friendly. The rest of the staff who came to my table were really attentive. I appreciated them checking on me. Thank you all for the stellar customer service!! I enjoyed each dish. The food was absolutely delicious. When it came down to the dessert, I couldn't finish the apple crisp (Lol). The topping was a little different to what I'm used to. Really enjoyed our visit to Covewood. The restaurant is comfortable and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed our meal on the patio with a view of the water. Additionally, we enjoyed several orders from their kitchen via room service, They've got a good selection of gluten free options. I would definitely recommend the waffle if you are looking for something sweet to go with your coffee but not too heavy. Would've ordered the French toast, it just looked heavier. Over a three-night stay, my friend and I ended up eating here five times--three breakfasts and two dinners. Overall, the service was friendly and efficient. On our final breakfast (a busy Saturday morning), there were a few delays getting items we requested, but given how crowded it was, that felt understandable. Earlier in the stay, when the restaurant was quieter, service was attentive as you'd expect. The food was consistently good. Nothing truly standout, but always satisfying and occasionally very good. The menu is somewhat limited for both breakfast and dinner, which is probably the main drawback. That said, we were both happy with our experience and didn't regret coming back multiple times, even if it wasn't the most memorable dining of the trip. A couple of highlights: the cocktails were well made, and prices--for both food and drinks--were quite reasonable, especially compared to recent trips we've taken to Washington, DC and New York City. The ambiance was also a plus. Being so close to the bay, with outdoor seating and fire pits, it had a really appealing, relaxed atmosphere that made it an easy place to return to. We came here for dinner near sunset in March and sat out on the patio. Make sure to bring sunglasses to deal with the glare until the sun goes down and bring a light sweater as it gets cooler near the water. The view is nice and the atmosphere is relaxing. The food is ala carte and the restaurant charges surcharges, tax and gratuity for people over 6 in count. The food was just ok in my opinion. So... I have mixed feelings about this place. We stayed at the resort for Valentine's Day weekend and ended up dining at the on-site restaurant three times because of the convenience. The first morning, nothing remarkable happened. We absolutely loved that they're dog-friendly. They even offer a dog menu, which allowed us to enjoy breakfast with our pups -- that was a huge highlight. The breakfast potatoes were really good, but the rest of the meal was pretty mediocre. Valentine's Day dinner started off strong. We were able to get last-minute seating, which felt like a win. The host/manager was fantastic -- professional, polite, and truly went out of his way to accommodate us. That was a major plus. Unfortunately, the service quickly went downhill. We waited nearly 30 minutes before our server even acknowledged our table. After ordering drinks, another 30 minutes passed before they arrived -- and they were delivered by someone else. When I finally tasted my Captain and Coke, it was so watered down it was undrinkable, clearly having sat at the bar far too long. I flagged someone down to address it, and while he apologized and said he would inform the original server, we watched that server laugh about it and continue ignoring us. It was blatantly unprofessional and dismissive. Thankfully, a third server ended up taking over our table, and the experience improved significantly. My replacement drink was much better, and when our food finally arrived, it was delicious. We ended the night with great service (from the new server), an excellent meal, and an amazing dessert. Still, it took nearly three hours to get there. It was especially frustrating watching other tables -- including a couple who arrived more than an hour after us -- receive appetizers before we did. Day two at breakfast was even more frustrating. Again, service was painfully slow. When our server finally approached us, he seemed completely uninformed about the menu. I asked what cheese options were available instead of Swiss on the club sandwich, and he replied sarcastically, "Swiss." That response alone set the tone. After pointing out that Havarti is listed on the burger, he reluctantly agreed -- clearly irritated by a simple substitution request. I also asked for no tomato due to an allergy, which visibly bothered him. When my sandwich arrived, it had both Swiss and tomato on it. That's not just an inconvenience -- that's a basic failure to listen, especially when an allergy is mentioned. The fries were cold and limp. I sent the entire plate back. If it weren't for the excellent manager and the second server from dinner, this review would be far worse. The restaurant has potential, and the dog-friendly atmosphere is a standout feature. But the inconsistency, lack of professionalism, poor communication, and obvious gaps in training are serious problems. Service should not feel like an afterthought -- especially at a resort restaurant where guests are paying premium prices. With proper training and accountability, this place could be great. We like that we can bring our dog here. Food is overpriced but okay. Mostly come here for the ambiance. However the worst part has been some of the staff are very rude and we don't come here as often because of that. Also service is very slow for no reason. I've even had our waiter make fun of me because I did not want to sit on a dirty cloth seat and requested the chair be removed from the table as it was disgusting. This place really needs to invest in wipeable chairs and teach their staff to be kinder instead of making fun of guests for having a higher standard than they present or than they have. It would have been easy to just move the chair, but instead our waiter felt it was appropriate to make fun of me to my face saying I must have been traumatized by something to not want to sit on a dirty chair. In addition, we wanted a place that was quiet enough to review some work presentations and had WiFi for us to use our laptops. Covewood delivered on all of that including providing us with a wonderful view of Mission bay. It is technically a restaurant that is part of the hotel but is open to the public. Since it is a little bit secluded there was plenty of seating. The menu is small yet all the food we got was delicious. Portions were quite large as well. The service was amazing. Roy was our server both for breakfast and dinner during our anniversary staycation. He was attentive and friendly, offering menu suggestions. The standout was the miso halibut, amazingly delicious, texture was perfect, moist and tender, highly recommend! Baby bok choy was crisp and charred, tender and flavorful. Amazing service and food. My husband and I ordered the gnocchi, pork chop, Caesar salad, and clam chowder. My kids ordered the chicken nuggets + fries and butter noodles (modified the Mac and cheese) the staff was accommodating and attentive throughout our meal; seating us somewhere quiet for our sleeping baby and adjusting temps on heaters. My sister and I came here for a sister weekend getaway. Our host was very kind and seated us outside, just in time for a lovely sunset. Our server took our drink order right away but the drinks took a while to get to us (vodka martinis). For dinner we decided to share the heirloom carrots and the seafood tower with a side of bread. The carrots were amazing! But the bread was hard. The seafood tower was even worse! The crab legs and the shrimp were completely frozen and the oysters, which we did not try, were so small we couldn't even see them. For $90 we decided to send it back.
