We have been to Shorts 4 times and ordered out once. Every time the food was excellent and the waitresses have been as good or better. Last night was another story. In fact, last night was a never again experience. Our waiter disappeared and we sat there with dirty dishes for 15 minutes. Never really did seem like he wanted to be there any way. I had a Caesar salad with shrimp (which was delicious last time). Shrimp smelled bad and salad dressing was like water. Don't know exactly what was wrong with my daughter's burger, but she took like 3 bites and left it. $90 down the drain At that price one bad experience is all it takes. read more

First impression wasn't great as the floor seemed super sticky walking in... turned out it may have just been the finish on the flooring. We were sat in the back area at a half bench half chair table which was super tight. I may be a little flabby but I should be able to slide in easily like most places and it was snug. Table did not adjust out because I assume if we did that it would block the door to the outside. Server arrived quickly and promptly took our drink & food order. I got the slider burger which was tasty. Only thing I would recommend is if you are a burger joint ask how the person wants the burger cooked... mine was pretty red & I'm a barely pink girl. My hubby got the shrimp po boy which he enjoyed but noted the shrimp was supposed to be blackened & was not. He enjoyed it anyway. The home fries were amazing... probably my favorite part. I am a Marion ex-pat, now living in California.... I stumbled upon Short's on a Monday night looking for a place to have a beer and watch the Rams beat up on the Packers... I had met Chevy a couple nights earlier at a different watering hole, and was happy that they were open to check them out. I sat at the bar and received excellent service from Tyler, the bartender. Had some great conversations with Tyler, and a couple of other customers, which was very enjoyable and offered the opportunity to hear different perspectives (and generations). Needless to say, one beer turned to a few more, which was good since it tempered the cold walk home. I look forward to going back to Short's the next time I am in town, and hopefully Tyler will be manning the taps, and I can experience what looked like an excellent menu. The cheese curds were so salty that we could not eat them. My hubby ordered a cylinder burger which was supposed to have chili on it but didn't . I ordered the Farley and it was awful I bit into the burger and got something hard don't know what it was but I was not happy. The burger had way too much garlic aioli but it still no taste. A new favorite of mine in uptown Marion. Great drink menu with fabulous flavored mules. The cheese curds are fantastic. Lots of indoor seating with a small outdoor seating area that connects to the beautiful alleyway that connects several businesses. The food is very good with a variety of gourmet burgers and other items like salads, pork tenderloin and fried fish. A little pricey for burgers and sandwiches but overall very good. read more

We live on the SW side of Cedar Rapids, and we ordered food to go. Only 15 minute wait time for pick up, so that was nice and quick for us to make the drive and pick up. Brennan was awesome on the phone and in-person. Some of the best customer service we've received for pick up in a long while! Very nice selection of burger toppings and sandwich options. It was good, but not the best burger by any means, especially for the price. We'll come back to try it again, but I'm not sure it will be our first pick for a burger joint locally. read more

My son and I went for dinner Saturday night. It was busy but we got in quickly. We were seated in this cute little booth for two. I ordered the cheese curds and it probably could have served 4-6 people. They were fresh and very tasty! I ordered the Baxter Burger and My son, the Chester. We got lots of fries too. It was a delicious, flavorful burger. We will be back to try other menu items. The drink menu looked good with a variety of choices. I liked the decor and had plenty of TV's to watch sports. read more

atmosphere was great. Wait staff was excellent. My burger was good and my wife's fries were great too. We really didn't like, however, how the restaurant breaded the onion rings and the tenderloin. Both didn't have a crispy breading. It was loose and soggy. Plus, the onion rings were like 2 huge rings so it made it hard to eat (plus the soggy loose breading came right off). We didn't complain because we weren't sure if that's how the restaurant serves them. If we go back again, we would stick with the burger and fries. read more

FINALLY we were able to get to Short's! The last three times we have tried to go the wait was 45 min to an hour! We were places in a cozy small booth for two people. By the time our waiter came around (waited a good 10-15 minutes) we knew exactly what we wanted to drink and eat. Our waiter was nice, but not very personable/ talkative. I loved that I was able to order a 5, 11, or 16 oz draft beer! I usually can't drink a 16 oz so the 11 oz was perfect! I do wish there were more draft beer options that were lighter/crisper. Felt like there were quite a few dark/ ale beers. For burgers (so difficult to choose) my husband and I each ordered a burger and "halvsied" them so we could try two different kinds. We had the gravity (LOVED) and the Larchwood (also very good). We wouldn't say they were the BEST burgers in the area, but they were flavorful. I wish the buns were of better quality to hold the burger and toppings without crumbling/soggy. The fries were the bomb - golden brown, lightly salted, and crisp! Lastly, next time we come we will be trying the Cajun options - looked and sounded like authentic NOLA cuisine!! read more

Shorts is another great addition to the Marion Uptown! My wife, a friend, and I went there last night I thought is was awesome! Good craft beers, excellent burger options, a warm, yet industrial feeling environment, and very attentive staff made for a 5 star experience. When we stopped in after work around 5pm it was definitely crowded, but they were taking names and were doing a great job getting people in as they could. While we waited, the hostess gave us some samples of beers we wanted to try; AWESOME! They have a very conveniently placed standing counter by their front windows for folks to wait by until a table comes available. We waited about 15 mins before we were seated. Once seated, the waitress was extremely nice and attentive the entire evening. When looking at their extensive list of burger options we appreciated that they offered chicken and black bean burger substitutes to their standard beef burgers. Coincidently my wife and I substituted our burgers for black bean burgers, and our friend sub'd for the chicken. We got a starter of cheese curds and sipped on our craft beers as we waited for the main course. Our food came out relatively quickly, especially for how busy they were. Even if the food didn't come out quickly, the environment was so cool that we didn't mind spending some time. The concrete floor and Edison bulb lights offered an industrial feel while the warm wood bar and tables offered some warmth on a cold fall evening. Overall, we had a great experience at Shorts, and we definitely intend to go back very soon. So, if you haven't been, I highly recommend you check them out for yourself! read more

Very disappointed. Cajun night order of fish and chips. Plate was cold and greasy. Reordered medium (medium pink middle) Baxter burger; burger was served WELL WELL done. Obviously received second plate after other party members were finished with their entree. After bringing the second dish fail to the waitress' attention, received the standard Monday burger discount. The cheese fries were great - what looked to be a homemade cheese roux, crispy bacon, fresh green onion, and salty homemade fries. We ordered the Dundee burger. It was ok. The burger itself didn't have flavoring but the toppings helped make up for it. However it was so tall it was hard to eat. We also ordered the fish and chips substituting onion rings. The batter was so thick it overpowered the onions and the amount of fish to batter was immense. There wasn't any seasoning that could be tasted in either the fish or batter.
