After reading reviews on this restaurant my wife and I were anxious to try it. I have to say it was disappointing to say the least. The service was excellent but the food was mediocre at best. The coffee was harsh, the grits had lumps and the the sausage gravy was noticeably short on sausage. The pancakes had a funky flavor too. I ordered ham with my eggs. I expected a slice of ham. What I got was a slice of processed ham log? Please. I've had better breakfast in a mess hall. Much better. Seriously, we brought a doggie bag home and the dog wouldn't eat it. Great little breakfast joint in Welington. It's small so you may have to wait for a table but it is worth it. The French toast and pancakes are fantastic and fast service. I love this place! The food is always consistently delicious. I always get the traditional Eggs Benedict, it's my favorite thing on the menu. The eggs are poached perfectly every time I order it, which I cannot say the same for most other places that serve this dish. The hash brown casserole is so good, (it reminds me of my grandmothers mac and cheese recipe which is made with cream of mushroom soup.) The service is excellent, the people are all so nice there! I like supporting small businesses like this one rather than going to some huge chain restaurant. I am writing this review after more than 3 years of frequenting this establishment. read more

The food is excellent and servers too. But the last two times I've been there they had one waitress working. I had to wait for everything because the one waitress was doing waiting, busing tables, cashing people out, seating people. My food was cold. Had to wait for condiments and coffee refill. I'm a repeat customer so I'll probably be back but if this was your first time, you won't come back. Whoever is in charge needs to fix the scheduling issues. Time and time again my wife and I enjoy the 'short stacks', eggs, hash brown's, bacon and coffee at this little under the radar restaurant. We usually frequent Short Stacks on weekdays so it is not crowded. My order always includes pancakes which are light, very tasty ( even without real maple syrup) and grilled to perfection with a golden brown color......served hot enabling the butter to melt and flow to the edges. Gazing around at the other tables, the omelette and French toast looked good. The coffee is good, hash browns had crispy outer crunch, skip the casserole style hash browns....too pasty. My wife and I had breakfast here this morning. It was a weekday and we were seated right away with no wait. The server was prompt and checked back on us often. I had the "build your own omelette" with hash browns and pancakes as the sides. It was delicious -- the warm syrup was a great bonus. My wife had a bunch of breakfast side dishes and she also enjoyed everything. This was a nice change-of-pace from the large "chain-breakfast" restaurants. Here right now, my first impression of Short Stack as I walked in was pleasant! The decor reminds me of a quaint simple country cottage look and feel. The hostess was very pleasant as was our waiter! Then the issues began, they ran out of silverware so we weren't able to stir our coffee as is it was getting cold. After finally receiving silverware we waited about an hour before receiving our food. However, once the food got here it was great! I ordered the 3x2, Eggs cooked to perfection, crispy bacon, tasty home fries and fluffy pancakes. My son got the fruit plate which was extremely fresh! When it was time to pay we were given the wrong check. To sum up the experience, they have some logistics issues that can be solved with better management, food is great, service can be better! I will give them a second chance sometime, because the food was great but the service leaves much to be desired! read more

Went to Short Stacks for Sunday breakfast yeaterday, 11/5/2017. It was one of the most regrettable experiences we have had at a local establishment. Clearly there was a problem in the kitchen as the service was slow and our waitress apologetic. When the food arrived my omelet looked like a one-egg affair and was burned. My side dish of corned beef hash was zero...I mean zero corned beef but greasy diced potatoes. The server forgot to ask me about toast so that came later. This is our third time here and each time has been the same: lack of attentive service, lackluster dry food, and incorrect orders. But we started with a dirty table. After waiting for our waitress to notice us, we asked for it to be wiped down. When it finally was, it was still sticky. Everything stuck to the "clean" table. I ended up making a placemat out of napkins. We had to get sugar and creamer from other tables as our waitress never came back before our food came. Dropped off the food and didn't notice that we needed beverage refills. My hash was oily and greasy, and barely "hash". My eggs tasted like they were under a warmer too long. My pancakes were dry, even with syrup and butter. My BF's wrap was missing ingredients that the menu lists and which our waitress confirmed. Awful! Went there for a nice start to the weekend. Ordered the English breakfast and the tomatoes and mushrooms arrived cold. I didn't say anything because the eggs were at least mostly warm and I didn't want to ruin the mood. Then I found a hair in my food. Cooked into it. Disgusting. They were horrible about it. Barely apologized. Offered to make me something else. But honestly, had no appetite. Neither the manager nor the waitress were that invested in the whole thing. Short Stacks is pretty much hit or miss. I have been there a couple of times. The first time they ran the credit card twice. The person who paid did not find out till she received her credit card statement and had to argue with them to have the second charge refunded. The second time the food was pretty sub par. I had the steak and eggs with hash browns and pancakes. The hash browns were of the frozen patty variety that you can get at Costco. They broke it up to give it the feel of fresh hash browns. Not really the same. The pancakes were flavorless and they did not hat serve it with real maple syrup. If I wanted frozen hash browns, bland pancakes and fake syrup, I could have gone to Dennny's. The steak was actually prepared at the proper temp and the eggs were ok. Not very exciting overall. I would not go out of my way to visit. When I go to a place named Short Stacks. I expect quality pancakes and real syrup. I never expect frozen hash brown patties unless I am doing McDonald's. EPIC FAIL. read more
