This might be the first review of a place that I am solely rating on how atrocious the patronage & music is. I didn't even get to even try any of the food and I would not come back.We came understanding that covid has impacted businesses and things might take a little longer thus we were very patient about everything. However, we had a reservation for 2:30pm and we stopped by around 1:50pm first.We stood outside of the door of the restaurant and by the table that they have in front with the menu.We waited for a bit to see if anyone would come to check us in early if a table was available.No one did come and we see it is busy so we decide to go to a park area for a bit and came back closer to our reservation time.We came back around 2:20pm to the restaurant and stood there waiting for someone to check us in for our reservation.We started to realize that we're being ignored(mind you we were both wearing pink so it was almost painfully obvious that we were there on purpose because the whole aesthetic of the place is pink and we wanted some pictures).There was a group of girls(that were white) that came after us(didn't have a reservation) and they got seated immediately.But we were STILL standing there.It was literally until my friend had to physically get the woman's attention(who was seating and tending to everyone) in order for us to tell her we had a reservation for 2:30pm and finally got checked in. She gives us a menu to look at while we are standing there waiting.We finally got seated but we were seated in a terrible place by a bush with a lot of flies that kept flying into our faces and there were these high stools with no back support.Also, the seating location defeated the purpose of why we came because the place has a pink aesthetic with a pink fence and tables with pink umbrellas etc with chairs with back support.We see another table made for 2 people with back support was in the more pink area with no bush or really any flies by what we saw.The table was in a better area where it showed the whole pink aesthetic and would've been more comfortable for us but they had to clean the table.Even though I was already ready to leave, I agreed with my friend that if we can move seats then we will probably have a better time because we would be seated better.My friend requested if we can be moved to that table and we were told to just wait for it to be cleaned.We left the table we were at and stood by the outside of the restaurant again to wait.A group of white guys came(they did have a reservation but they came after us) and immediately a table was cleaned for them and shortly after they were seated.We were told to just go back and sit at the table with the flies to wait for the table we wanted to be cleaned off. So we waited again to see when we could be moved while sitting at this table with flies.We see other tables getting cleaned but still not that one.Anyways, the same woman came back to take our order and again my friend asks can we be moved to the other table.And at that moment that other table was cleaned and another customer was sat there by someone else(mind you when we asked one of the other workers about being moved to that table,we were told we have to ask the same woman we have been dealing with this whole time).Again, the woman customer who was seated at the table was a white woman.To go back to the dialogue my friend was having with the woman we have been dealing with this whole time.She responds that there is no communication or something and walks away from us instead of taking our orders or just trying to help us in anyway.I was basically done at this point because we were being treated like trash.My friend kindly explained the situation to the customer sitting at the table we were waiting for and she moved but I told my friend we should still go and that's when 2 women sitting at another table nearby told us we should leave(she heard me say that and it looks like she was warning us to not even bother).We decided to leave once and for all even though the customer did move from the table and was kind and understanding.On our way out we put back our menus and told the customer that we decided to leave and apologized about the confusion and told her she can have the table.She was really nice and understanding and just went back to sit and we left. Also, there was a black woman with a bike standing there in front waiting so long considering the fact that she was there since we came back at 2:20pm and she still wasn't attended to either and by now it's after 3.We are also black and we noticed a trend.So yes we decided to leave and to not spend our money here.Seeing the black woman with the bike being ignored too really confirmed it with us that it was on purpose we were being treated like this. I have no issues with the other white customers mentioned but their race was noted in this review because it is important to recognize the treatment they got and how they were prioritized and not ignored like us and the other black customer. read more

My friend and I wanted to try this place because it was so pretty and we saw a lot of good reviews for it, but when we actually went this past Saturday we had a terrible experience and will not be returning back to this restaurant. So, basically my friend and I made reservation for 2:30pm, but we actually got there earlier at 1:50pm. When we arrived none of the workers were paying us any mind, but we figured it was because it was too early so we left and came back at 2:25pm. When we came back I literally stood in front of the doorway so they could see us and know that we needed to be seated. As my friend and I stood in the way the employee still decided to tend to a group of white girls that was next to us and they got seated. That was the first straw because like why would you respond to those girls when I was literally right in front of you and was waving to get your attention. Anyways, after that she finally decided to respond to us, and she said that she would seat us within in a few minutes. That ended up taking over 15 minutes for them to do, mine you it's a small table not much to clean. Then finally the waiter tells us we can sit. When we looked over it was one of those high chair stools. I really don't like those types of seatings. I wanted a seat with back support and also it wasn't close enough get the whole aesthetic of the place in pictures. Which was our main point for coming to that restaurant. Also, we were right next to a bush that had a ton of flies. So, we asked to be moved to a seat that was not too far from where we were sitting, it had the back support, the aesthetic was more visible and there weren't as many flies. The waiter told us that if we wanted to be moved we would have to wait, so we waited. She asked us to go back to the seat that we were given until they clean the table that we wanted. This took another 15 minutes. They cleaned a table for another white man and his friends that came AFTER us and then they also cleaned two other tables before ours. At this point it's like 2:50 . Finally the waiter comes over to us to take our order and I was like "Can we move now that the table is clean?" She wanted to pretend like we didn't ask to move before. She was like "yeah, of course" so as we are about to get up this white girl sits down in the seat we wanted. At this point my friend and I were infuriated. So now the waiter goes "I don't know what's going on , no one is communicating!" then she walks away instead of trying to help us. Now my friend and I go up to the white girl on our own and we explain to her that we were supposed to be seated there and she was actually super nice about it and said she would switch with us. At this point, my friend and I were upset , fed up, hungry , tired, embarrassed , etc . So we started discussing if we should just leave or not, these two girls over heard us and they were like yess we should go ! I guess because they witnessed how bad we were being treated or the food wasn't that great. There was also another young black girl that was being ignored as well ! Long story short If you are black, don't go to Short Stories ! You only get treated like a human being if you're white or if your Black dressed up with some 6 in heels. If you look young and dressed casual they think you can't afford the restaurant or won't tip which is wild to me. NEVER AGAIN. read more

This is my get together spot , Short stories is the place to come with your girlfriends and have a good time. Short Stories , has great service. But also very clean place . The place is kind of dark as you walk in , I like it . Moving on to the food and the drinks , the prices are higher than other local places. But he food is worth it . Came here with a bunch of good buddies for a Saturday brunch the other week and had a blast. Started with oysters which were delicious and a couple other appetizers, all came out quick with great service and presentation. For entre had the Pastrami Salmon/Avocado Toast, also really good. The pink strawberry margaritas were strong as hell and festive, matching the pink decor. Staff was super sweet and welcoming. Someone at the table ordered the Venus of Furs, a pink cocktail drink fountain that was...words cannot describe. Also, shark shaped disco ball...that's all. Sick spot! read more

Drinks were not good. I tried the James and The Giant Peach first and it was disgusting. Tasted like rubbing alcohol and the peach ring it was garnished with was so hard and chewy it was inedible. I literally took two sips and sent it back BUT I WAS STILL CHARGED FOR IT. Ridiculous. Then I tried the Watermelon Great Expectations which was just ok. My friend got the Moby Dick and liked it, but it was nothing special in my opinion. Overall, drinks were pretty gross and it ended up costing us $60+ for 3 drinks, one of which I took two sips of and sent back, expressing to the server that I was dissatisfied with it. Extremely unprofessional staff. I was attempting to enter the bar last Friday night when I was angrily yelled at by a tall man (I assume the bouncer). He yelled "Get off my property!!" in reference to the public sidewalk. I think he thought I was in line for a bar down the street but was actually trying to enter Short Stories. First of all the sidewalk is public property and second if this man was actually the owner of this establishment, he for sure wouldn't have been out there checking people in. Honestly just reeked of someone who just wants power because he doesn't have control of anything else in his life. I heard him tell someone "stay safe tonight" in an aggressive tone. What kind of person on shift openly threatens someone in front of the establishment in uniform? To whomever the business owner actually is, I recommend getting a new bouncer because this just made me want to go somewhere else. read more

Damn. I love this place. I was there last night for a birthday, where we had dinner as well as drinks. The music was super awesome and the staff unbelievably nice. Came for Saturday brunch with two friends, the decor is really cute but that's it. They don't make iced tea, and were all out of pastries that day, apparently they "didn't get delivered" (the pastries were a large part of the menu). Service was slow and unattentive. The food we did get was alright but very small portions. Worst part was the server didn't know how to use his own credit card machine and said our charges didn't go through so he ran our cards again - we checked our banks later that day and he had charged each of us twice!! So... this is an interesting place. I came here completely on a whim after searching Yelp. The impression that I got from menu pictures and reviews was that this place was a vegan friendly spot with some non vegan options like burgers and such. I was very surprised when I was handed the menu and there were absolutely none of those options, as I do not generally eat vegan food. I believe this is due to them changing their menu recently, but I couldn't find anything on it. I ended up going with the Beyond Burger. The burger was... well, let's say I wouldn't get it again. I didn't find it particularly appealing. The fries weren't bad though. The rest of my party didn't actually get anything because nothing on the menu appealed to menu appealed to them. There's not much more to say after that. It just wasn't a good food experience. Looking at the reviews on this place and the menu photos I have a hard time believing this is the same place, but it really is. Overall, if you're vegan this place has good options. If you're not and you want to actually eat, go anywhere else. There are a dozen other restaurants very nearby I would have rather eaten in. Advice to the owners: you should put the current menu on the website. Had I known the current menu, I wouldn't have come here. I'm still extremely disappointed in this place. I've been wanting to try it for such a long time. I finally got a reservation for me and my sisters, and we were really looking forward to it. We should have known it would be a really bad experience when our server gave us menus, but didn't come back for over twenty minutes. She seemed to be the only server, and it was getting pretty busy outside, yet the host kept seating tables when she could barely keep up with the ones she had. We were really hungry since we came for dinner, and after getting our apps and drinks, we wanted to put our meals in, but another 25 minutes passed before anyone came back. We asked the host to grab our server for us, since he came to check on us. Instead, he asked if we needed anything, so one of my sisters told him the drink she wanted and he said he'd grab it for her. We also told him we wanted to order food, so we'd need our server sent over anyway. He said sure thing, that he'd go grab her. He instead went and sat at the table next to us, talking to the patrons that were seated at that table (which was concerning, because he's super close to unmasked guests while at work but whatever). He never went to grab our waitress, and *surprise* never even put my sisters drink order in. We eventually had to go inside just to beg the server for our check, we were just so hungry we wanted to go somewhere else. She apologized for the terrible service, so they absolutely knew what was going on. I've been a server for years, so I felt bad for her, but I just had to go. Why would you only have one server on a Friday night? Oh and by the way, the menu on their website isn't the menu you get while at the restaurant. My friend and I have been wanting to pay a visit since Sandy Liang threw her party here, it's the new hit spot but sadly we were disappointed. We went there on a Sunday night at 7pm. Our food took close to 30 minutes to arrive, which was shocking because the restaurant was 80% empty. I enjoyed my grain bowl, but my friend found her fish sandwich anti climatic. She found the fish too dry, the bun disconnected with the essence of the protein, and the coleslaw awkwardly wedged in between. Having said that, it's a pretty space. Lots of subtle and tasteful pink decor and the staff seem genuinely nice. I guess they just need some time to figure out their dinner menu. I hope they make substantial improvements so they don't become yet another Manhattan short story! read more

Hands down one of the best new bars/restaurants on the NYC scene right now. They thought of everything and stayed true to their hispanic roots, serving popped flour wheels with their guac, and impossible burgers for the vegetarians that frequent this place. The drinks and atmosphere in the evening is even better when the tables go away and the mood turns into a festive dance-on-the-couches party. I never ever write reviews on Yelp but I had to due to my experience here and need to make others aware of my situation. I had gave the bouncer my id and vaccine card like everyone else in my group did. My vaccine card is a picture on my phone because I don't feel comfortable carrying around the physical copy and I don't have any of the vaccine apps because in the past bouncers don't want to see the app they would rather have a picture of the card. He took forever looking at my id (mind you I'm 23 years old and look very young) and was shining a flash light on it bending it thinking it was a fake id when it very much is my id. This whole time he is holding my phone looking at my vaccine card telling me it looks fake and that I need to show him another picture of my card. After, he proceeds to go through my pictures on my phone to see my face in my pictures to match it with my id without my permission. I then grab my phone because he has no right to go through my photos. I turn my screen around to show him my other picture that he requested and he proceeds to tell me "it's blurry". Very frustrated and cold at this point I don't know what else to do. I felt defeated and my night was ruined. Mind you most of my friends were inside already. What made me more upset was all of them had pictures on their phone of their vaccine cards and were not given a problem like me. The bouncer tells me I need to get an app to upload my vaccine card to.... Are you kidding me? Seriously? I don't have my physical card to upload it to the app! It all made 0 sense to me! I download this stupid app and make a whole account and am confused on what to do regarding how to upload my vaccine card to this app! I show him the app dashboard to ask for his help on what to do since he told me to download the app and he said ok that's good you can come in...WHAT? He wasted so much of my time and ruined my night. I was so cold and upset I should have just left and never went in this dumb bar to begin with. I only bought one drink in an attempt to turn my night around until I saw how much one drink was there! The glass was all ice and barely any alcohol was put in it. Best brunch ever!! I heard about this place from a friend of mine. The decor gives off an 80s vibe, almost like Miami Vice. The service was fantastic and friendly, even offering us complimentary Prosecco when we sat down. The menu was eclectic, providing a little bit of everything for the simple to sophisticated palate. I had the Impossible story burger, which was delicious. However, the best thing to get, by far, was the Avocado Toast. Made on a big piece of Challah bread, drizzled with Thai chili sauce and sprinkled with quinoa and everything bagel seasoning...unreal!! A light and refreshing start to brunch and something that should be ordered every single time. This was a bar until recently. They have only just introduced a menu. With that being said, the drinks were fine, but I wouldn't come here for food. I came with a group of friends and each of us that ordered food only got half way through our plates... mind you I'm not someone who likes to waste food. It was subpar. They also don't have an espresso machine yet apparently so just a warning you don't be able to get any lattes or anything, just drip coffee :/.
