Found this spot a while back because I really love finding new restaurants to try out. And have never been to really any of the new restaurants in downtown Simpsonville, and it has always been a great experience with the beer cheese pretzel being an amazing appetizer choice! Today: The bill was $45.00. He had one small sandwich plus some coleslaw. All medium tasting, not great. She had a salad, which was mostly a bowl of lettuce w/ about 1/2 apple, some red onion, about 1/2 teaspoon of blue cheese and lots of chewy dried tomatoes. What kind of meal is that? The two meals were not good at all. This is not a restaurant to serve people meals, it's a place to make as much money as possible with as little good food as possible. We will not go back - and that's a big deal since we used to be "regulars." Is is just too expensive for such really low & off-hand quality food. The service is always good, that could be because the restaurant is usually empty when we go (about 4:30). But...never again. read more

Was meeting a friend for her birthday lunch and she chose the same place from last year's bday dinner but discovered it was closed on Monday. She texted me stating she walked down to Shortfields as she's been here before with a group in the past and we can eat here. Ironically I have also eaten here only once before but at least two years ago and with a different group. She knew exactly what she was going to order the fish taco. I think she had fries. I finally decided on a burger, the one with mushrooms, onions, and provolone cheese. And chose tator tots as my side. The burger with its toppings were good. The tator tots were crispy like the way I like it but it was a tad bit salty. She said her fish tacos weren't that good. There were three of them, and they looked to be filled quite well. But she said there was an abundance of sauce, the flavor over powering the fish itself, and leaking out her tacos and on to her plate with each bite. She shared this to me throughout but never to our waitress, though she knows I do yelp. This place is casual and it does have a separate area that could host a group. Because it's December, it was decorated for Christmas so nice and comfy. I thought the service was good. I came from the fitness center and had my own large water bottle, but she (I forgot her name) was great about providing me more water. I liked how at the beginning she asked if ready to give our orders and sharing what the sides are, checking up midway, and not intrusive. Because the lunch shift was ending and thus hers, I already had my card with the bill but she still asked if it's okay to take it to charge it. The food for me was fine. The burger was good but wouldn't be something I would have to return for. I actually didn't finish my toys but brought it home and my son finished it off. Though my friend complained about hers, she ate all three of her tacos and the sides so must have been good enough to eat My experience was a bit mixed mainly due to my friend's attitude but then again I would not have come here on my own. I could see how some people may become regulars though I wouldn't because it's a bit farther from where I live, I personally would have wanted more vegetables yet the service, casual yet comfy ambience would be the pro side. We enjoyed our sandwiches and burger here at lunch. Everything was prepared perfectly and service was friendly and efficient. The atmosphere is not loud and great for conversation. Be sure to order the tater tots as a side instead of fries or chips. So crispy and delicious! read more

Brunch menu!!! We decided to stop by here today after church. I was very surprised to see a brunch menu. I opted for the 2 egg meal with 2 pancakes, 2 strips of bacon, 2 sausage patties and seasoned potatoes. The service here is always great and the place has a nice overall cozy / intimate setting. We had tried this place a couple of times several years ago. The meals were nothing to write home about and overpriced. Today we tried it to see if anything had changed. My husband had an edible cheeseburger and I got the half wedge salad with grilled chicken. It was brought out in a too small bowl that could not contain the chunks of lettuce core. We were meeting the granddaughter and her boyfriend halfway for dinner, in Simpsonville, and were hoping to find a good restaurant that we could all enjoy.  We had the youngest grandson with us, and, believe me, that child is always a challenge when you are talking about eating out.  The child does not eat. Anyway, we happened upon this restaurant on Yelp, and thought it sounded like a good place.  We definitely picked the right one.  Even the grandson ate a few bites of macaroni and cheese.  The granddaughter & boyfriend had the wings, and hubby and I shared a burger and a salad. We all enjoyed our food, the restaurant seating was comfortable, and the waitress was friendly and helpful with my food sensitivities. Oh!  The granddaughter also ordered a molten lava cake, which the grandson was happy to help her eat.  As in, he ate half of it.  Ha! If you're looking for a place that offers a friendly, Hometown feel... this is the place that you never know that you needed to try. My absolute favorite is Candice!! We live in north Greenville County and have been to the Shortfields in Travelers Rest many times. This was our first time to the Simpsonville location. We were disappointed because we felt it did not rise to the same standard as the Travelers Rest location. Without being able to put my finger exactly on the issues, the food did not seem as good, the portions seemed smaller, the ambience was not as desirable, and the service was fairly lackluster. Overall, it was just a "meh" experience and not enjoyable enough to return here. read more

We had potato wedges for an appetizer and then burgers for dinner. The burgers and fries were fantastic. The service was very attentive. It was disappointing that we could not find out what appetizers were gluten free (even after asking). We also wish they served Coke products. The primary reason for 3 stars versus 4 was due to the lack of knowledge about the menu and the 3% surcharge for credit cards. Our bill was also wrong with an extra drink charge. Had medium expectations coming in. Heard people enjoy Shortfields but I quickly learned to stop listening to those people. This place isn't bad by any means. Good atmosphere, busy, helpful staff. The food is where the disappointed comes from. None of our options were really that enjoyable to eat. We got a variety to try and left pretty disappointed. $50 for 3 items is wild. Even crazier when you know how mediocre it is. If you need a place to try, sure give shortfields a try but I will not be coming back, none of the food made it worth coming back for! read more

Service - Excellent They charge a 3.5% additional fee to your bill if you use credit card. Gratuity is automatically added for groups. What would we order again? Fish and Chips - Awesome. Perfect tasty crunchy crust. Fish beautifully done. The Cole slaw that comes with it is wonderfully creamy. What would we not order again? French Onion Soup - It's ok. Not the best I've had. The flavor is not deep enough enough. French Dip - This is more of a Philly cheesesteak. The meat is well done not rare as I've had at other restaurants. There is a layer of cheese. The horseradish comes on the sandwich. It's a good sandwich. It's just not a French dip as I've come to have them. They packed up my boyfriend's remaining sandwich but didn't also pack an au jus to go with it. Bummer. read more

i ordered a corned beef on rye. I was told corned beef was not on the sandwich menu. I pulled a Five Easy Pieces. I'll have a Ruben hold the sauerkraut cheese and thousand island. If corned beef can be used to make a Ruben it could just as easily be used to make a plain sandwich. i have been to Shortfields many times and ordered a corned beef on rye with no problem. We really enjoyed Shortfields for my brother's birthday. However, my sister in law booked our party of 10 in advance and they failed to mention there would be a room fee. It wasn't that the fee was a ton of money, it's just that it wasn't mentioned until the very end of our meal. It wasn't mentioned to my sister in law on the phone. We assumed we would be sitting in the main area of the restaurant. All that to say, I'm not saying we wouldn't book Shortfields again for a birthday celebration, but we might look for a nearby restaurant that doesn't charge for the amount of people in our party. read more

I am not going to lie this was not our first choice this Morning. I am so glad we ended up there. Wow the brunch menu is great. We both had the Farmhouse Breakfast. 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 bacon strips, 2 Hugh sausage patties, Home fries. Man it was AWESOME. The food & the service was unbelievable. I was so hungry when I saw it I forgot to take a picture. Breakfast for 2, 3 beverages and it was $31. I am so full I can't see, and my wife had to bring some home. While we waited I looked over the regular menu. I will go back. Check their website and look at the White Wings....... It was my first time there and not our first choice but I am SO very glad we went. I will go back for dinner. Oh and they have a very well stocked bar. My food was delicious, served hot, reasonably priced, & served quickly. Unfortunately instead of staggering my meal everything came at once. While attempting to enjoy my adult beverage & soup the entire entree was delivered & was now getting cold. Even though I'd not ate one bite of the entree I was asked if I'd like desert? Then quickly given a box for my main entree. Basically, take your food & GO! Finally, without any discussion or notification I was given an additional fee of 3.5% for using my debit card. I guess if your not paying close attention, at a glance of the meal total you could then add the tip to this up charge. Instead of let's say the average tip of 20%, now your paying 23.5%. read more

The three cheese omelette was decent and the gravy biscuits would have been very good if there was enough gravy. I would have asked for a little more but didn't see the waitress again until I was finished. Took an unscheduled trip to ride around and get out of the house and ended up stopping here. Not many people there but it was a little late (for me) for lunch. We sat outside (heat is not bas yet so take advantage) and ordered. I got the Big Buffalo Burger which was very yummy and big. Fries were very good and I couldn't finish them all (since I'm trying to be good these days.) Wife had the chicken salad sandwhich. Bread was a little dry but plenty of chicken salad.
