This is that hole in the wall place you've heard tale about. It's Texas, it's BBQ and it's everything you hoped it would be. I love BBQ and I've tried them all. If a new BBQ joint opens up, I'm there. If I'm out of town I've got to try the BBQ wherever I'm at. I love BBQ but not all BBQ is equal. Shorty's is great BBQ. When we have out of town guests and they want BBQ this is the place I take them to. My family and I have been there multiple times and not once have we had a bad experience. The service is good. The decor is nice, rustic. The atmosphere is different (good different), it's subtle and you may miss it but it's a hole in the wall BBQ atmosphere. You really need to dine in to appreciate it. Best BBQ in DFW (thanks for my hubby...I've tried too many to count) Generous portions really put the "we're not stingy with our meat" companies to shame. Not the best eat-in atmosphere during summer heat, because inside seating is small and can be so busy that it is SRO, or you're eating with strangers at your table, but we frequently drive up, run in, get to-go, and keep on driving home. Sauce is a little thin, but you come to know it is the perfect complement for the meat because it tastes so great, you don't want to hide it with sauce. Warning - Parking lot is bumpy. They have an all day special that you can get a sandwich of your choice of chopped brisket, pulled pork, chicken, hot links, or ham for $6.75. Pretty cheap for bbq. It comes with a 20 ounce tea or lemonade and a bag of chips as well. The loaded potatoes are even better. Found myself here at Shortys BBQ in Sunnyvale on accident & thank goodness I did, the staff is very pleasant & warm, & the food is beyond GREAT. But even more so than that the owners are such wonderful, caring, & kind folks!!!! I was down & out & without them knowing me atall & over hearing me say I was on foot & asking for directions from another customer they offered & provided food, a roof over my head for the night, a ride, & a bus ticket to get to my destination.They have in a way renewed my faith in mankind to know there are still people like them around. I see Shorty's BBQ everyday on the way home but would never stop because I smoke and BBQ my own meats. My wife and I decided to stop by yesterday, boy do I feel foolish for not having stopped before. Yes, the food was that good. The smoke perfectly infused into the meats and the aroma the were giving off forced me to eat my take home Family Meal there and take the rest home. They gave us both a bowl of the tastiest beans I have ever had. Service and atmosphere with great food is a must stop try for everyone. We had dinner last night at Shorty's and it was great. We both ordered the loaded potato, which came in a takeout box. The potato was cooked perfectly and filled the whole bottom of the box. Then came butter, beef brisket, BBQ sauce, cheese, sour cream, and onions. We each ate about a third and will have the rest as leftovers. If you are travelling, you might consider splitting one between at least 2 people. The restaurant is in an old gas station, and is filled with fun antiques, which made it a lot of fun to look at as we ate. We definitely plan on going back!!! read more

I stopped at Shorty's on a whim as I was driving home one night about 4 months ago and since then we are regulars! At least twice a month I stop in to get the loaded baked potato (and it is really loaded!) and the 3 meat platter. We like the variety (although we are partial to the hot links) with the chopped brisket a close second. My wife loves the coleslaw and I really like the beans and potato salad. Quantities are good - the two entrees we buy generally lasts us for 3 meals. Shorty's is now our favorite BBQ place. read more

I work for Bumper Man Inc. in Mesquite. Our office is located about three miles from Shorty's. If you live in the area, or are from out of town, you've got to stop in for the chopped beef and beans. You get a lot for your money and the food is excellent. The rustic atmosphere (the building was once a gas station) and the family feel of the place, along with the homemade sauce, adds to the home-grown dining experience. I also drove past two BBQ places to get to the awesomeness that is "the loaded potato"! I actually got the "Plumbers special" potato. It had three kinds of meat and was practically stacked to the ceiling...sooo good!! Cool Texas vibe and the staff was great. My wife got the ribs and they were fabulous. Nice tangy sweet sauce perfect dipping anything in. I will most deffinantly be dropping by again for take out. The most delicious BBQ, Chicken & sides in our area. We have used them for many personal gatherings, birthday parties & church dinners. Their sausage is RARE to find. It's the only sausage my husband will eat. It's the only sausage that does not have grizzles in it, like all other BBQ places. My husband won't eat sausage anywhere else now. Some of the best BBQ we have ever had. Huge portions and great value!!! We had a big family reunion when our son came home from his tour of duty Shorty was not open on Sunday when we were to have the event. I called and ordered the BBQ for pick up on Saturday and they said that they would come in and cook the barbecue Sunday morning so that we would have fresh product for our party!!! read more

This place is great!! I have only been twice in the past year but haven't been disappointed at all. They give you a ton of meat. If you are dining in they'll give you free pinto beans that are utterly delicious. It's sort of a small place but don't be shy. The food is righteous. Great authentic bbq with reasonable prices. I ordered the chopped brisket sandwich meal.. $7.50 sandwich drink and beans. The beans were really good too. This place is on the hey 80 service road and you have to exit early or you will miss it. I'll definitely go back and recommend it. read more
