Front entrance and upstairs dining area~

Tasty chaat (Northern Indian street style food) place in Strawberry Hill area. Parking is plentiful in the strip mall lot. My understanding is that this establishment is the upscale sibling of Apna Chaat House (temporarily closed) just a few doors down. In fact my friends and I were directed here when trying to eat there. As of the time of writing, the establishment had a social distancing entrance, with hand sanitizer and a doorperson. There is an elevator (the restaurant is on the 2nd floor) but it's faster to simply walk up the fire escape stairs. The place looks pretty modern, with a classy bar area and plenty of dark painted wood. Staff are very friendly and helpful, especially since none us of us knew what half the food items were. Gun powder wings - nice and crisp. Golgappa - nice light hollow puffs that are eaten after getting filled with the included spicy tamarind (and other ingredients) juice. Definitely quite tasty as long as one gets past the sulfur smell of the juice. Chicken 65 - not as spicy as I had hoped. Also the pieces were dry fried (ie not covered in sauce), unlike every other place where I've had this dish. Actually reminded me of Taiwanese salty peppery chicken, though the spice mix is obviously different. Kheema pav - chicken curry with diced onions served with 2 square buns. Chicken kulcha - stuffed bun (split in half) and filled with chicken and onions and other goodies (and a slice of jalapeno). Served with a side of cooked onions. Tasted fine but the portion was rather small. Dahi batata puri - golgappa on steroids basically. Filled with tasty goodness and covered with yogurt, cheese bits (?), and sweet sauce. Mango lassi - cold and refreshing. Basically a pureed mango or two. Overall the food and presentation are quite good. Portion sizes are a wee bit small (especially the chicken kulcha), but this also means one can share more dishes.

Golgappa shots; the water was too sweet

Our server was attentive and around when we needed something but never interrupting, and his recommendations ended up being some of our favourite dishes. The anchovy olives were a standout, super crispy, packed with flavour, and not overly fishy at all (great if you're a bit hesitant about anchovies). The mushroom toast was rich, savoury, and full of umami. Just a heads up not to let it sit too long since it softens the bread. The tuna tartare was fresh and well-balanced. Not my personal favourite served on toast, but still really enjoyable overall. The paella was excellent, perfectly cooked shrimp, tclams, and crispy pork belly chicharrón that added the best salty, fatty crunch. The roasted cabbage completely surprised me and was easily one of the best veggie dishes I've had in a while. I could have eaten a whole plate of it. We wrapped things up with churros and shared a pitcher of sangria. For three people, it came out to about $68 each before tip, which felt very fair for how much we ordered. Would definitely recommend.

As well, the manchego was so tiny it was like a shaving . The bone marrow amounted to about three teaspoons of marrow. We were so sad and dissatisfied. The patatas bravas was okay. Unfortunately we do not have a reason to return.

They have 8 kinds of pintxos, cheese, charcuterie, and some side dishes. So for a light dinner or pre dinner, this is a good place. It's casual so don't expect fancy service. Staff is nice and welcoming. They had live music (Spanish guitar soloist) which was a nice touch. Rating is more like 3.5, food and value is ok, but venue and ambiance is one of a kind.

We had begun our night at Bar Gobo and just was not feeling it, so we decided to come to La Boqueria instead for dinner. We were able to get a table right away with a quick phone call, and they saved us a table upon our arrival! We mainly came here for wine and the delicious Pintxos, and between the two of us we shared a bottle of the Blasted Church Hatfields Fuse, and a platter of 5 Pintxos (great date meal!). Due to the current circumstances they seemed to be understaffed so the food was taking longer than usual so they offered us a complimentary dish of Pulpo a la Gallega - perfectly cooked giant octopus with potato, mayo and paprika - if I knew how delicious it was I would have definitely ordered it as an appy! The Pintxos are to die for - perfect for sharing. Our favourite was probably the negitoro, and the ultimate sardine. The platter of 5 is a perfect portion for 2 people and a great way to try a selection of Pintxos and a delicious explosion of variety of flavors. This place is a must-visit for seafood lovers, and such a unique offering comparing to the many tapas options in the city. My only feedback is I would have probably liked a more extensive list of red wine; maybe more full bodied reds? The cocktail list also looks amazing as well but sharing a bottle of wine is such a great date idea that we decided to leave the cocktails for our next visit. If you are looking for an unique romantic date night spot, I would highly recommend La Boqueria because it will be sure to delight and surprise your date with a great meal, ambiance, and great service. Truly a hidden gem in Vancouver for seafood and wine lovers. They are only open for dinner service for now so be sure to make a reservation.

TIKI DAVE from TIKI DAVE'S TERRIFIC TRIPS absolutely loves this place!…read more After searching for the best Tiki Bar in Vancouver (what???), I absolutely had to leave the family at the airport hotel to check this place out. As Son of TIKI DAVE would say, I didn't need to go, but I wanted to go. Yes, yes, Alec, I wanted to go. And the reviews lived up to the hype. What a wonderful spot halfway between the airport and downtown. I left it up to the bartenders to choose my drinks... Against my better judgment, I went with the bartender's recommendation to try the Painkiller because they touted it better than the Soggy Dollar Bar in the BVI. Well, I've been to the BVI but never the Soggy Dollar Bar...yeah, I know. But this drink, that I would normally think too sweet for my taste, was amazing. Now, I have to go to the freakin' Soggy Dollar Bar to compare but I'd bet this one was better. For my second, I again, left it up to the knowledgeable bartender to guide me the way. And he served me up with this perfectly amazing and glowy amazingness that is the Rememberer? Which is off menu. It was amazing. And did I mention it glowed? Ambience and service is amazing. I showed up on a Saturday night at 10 and I was worried after reading about it that I'd have trouble getting in but it wasn't a problem at all. The cocktails are generally on the sweeter side, but they're also surprisingly strong. We ordered the Zombie (3 oz), and there's a reason it's limited to two per guest. It tasted sweet and tropical, but it definitely sneaks up on you and can get you tipsy pretty quickly. The drink prices are quite reasonable, especially compared to the food. While the food is decent, I'd say the cocktails are the real highlight here. The atmosphere is fun, lively, and full of tropical vibes, come for the drinks and the atmosphere rather than the food.
