I've been to Yokai Tapas twice now, and it's quickly becoming a favourite. It's a small, cozy izakaya place with fun decor. Pricing is pretty comparable to other izakayas around town - around $30-40 per person depending on what you order. I really enjoyed all the food both times I went. My favourites were the Uni Cream Udon, Corn Karaage, and the Salmon Oshi. Service has been good both times, and they offer free validated parking in the lot next door, which is super convenient. I haven't tried any of their drinks yet, but I'll definitely check them out next time I go. If you're into Japanese tapas, this place is worth a visit!

A bit pricy for what you're getting, but a nice variety of foods and flavors. The scallops were excellent as well as the uni udon

Our server was attentive and around when we needed something but never interrupting, and his recommendations ended up being some of our favourite dishes. The anchovy olives were a standout, super crispy, packed with flavour, and not overly fishy at all (great if you're a bit hesitant about anchovies). The mushroom toast was rich, savoury, and full of umami. Just a heads up not to let it sit too long since it softens the bread. The tuna tartare was fresh and well-balanced. Not my personal favourite served on toast, but still really enjoyable overall. The paella was excellent, perfectly cooked shrimp, tclams, and crispy pork belly chicharrón that added the best salty, fatty crunch. The roasted cabbage completely surprised me and was easily one of the best veggie dishes I've had in a while. I could have eaten a whole plate of it. We wrapped things up with churros and shared a pitcher of sangria. For three people, it came out to about $68 each before tip, which felt very fair for how much we ordered. Would definitely recommend.

As well, the manchego was so tiny it was like a shaving . The bone marrow amounted to about three teaspoons of marrow. We were so sad and dissatisfied. The patatas bravas was okay. Unfortunately we do not have a reason to return.

A friendly front desk staff greeted us and took us to our seat by the window. Despite not having a reservation, we were surprised that we managed to get a good seat. The menu was large and varied, there were so many items that it took some time for us to decide. Finally, we picked Potato Cakes for the appetizer. For the main dish, my friend ordered Stone Pot Unagi on Rice and I chose Flying Ramen Takoyaki. A few minutes later, our orders came to our table, hot and fresh. The potato cakes were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The portion size of our main dishes was generous. However, they leaned more on the North American flavours instead of Japanese- they were quite salty and we had to drink a lot of water. My friend said that for her bowl, there was too much rice and not enough unagi. For my dish, there was a lot of fried noodles and sauce, but not enough vegetables to balance the saltiness. It was still fun to try a different take on Japanese food. For next time, we decided that we would order a drink and smaller items to share. If you are in the area, come and check this place out!

On our visit it was not busy, bso, we were seated immediately. The front of the house staff were welcoming and cordial. We ordered our libations, a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and an Old Fashioned. Both hit the right spot! Next up were the appetizers, charred Brussel Sprouts and Truffle Fries. They were a great way to start this dinner. Seasoned perfectly and quite tasty. Our entrees consisted of a Seafood Cioppino with Salmon, Mussels, and Halibut, as well as potatoes, red onions, and cherry tomatoes. My wife chose the. Grilled Salmon with quinoa, tomato, and a butter sauce. Bother were perfectly prepared and did not require additional seasoning. The Salmon was moist and flaky and the seafood stew right on point. My wife had the Apple Strueddle dessert which was great! I had a taste and loved the mixture of spices. For a hotel restaurant we were surprised at the quality of the food preparation.

I always order beef tongue, Japanese fried chicken, and shrimp mayonnaise. These are my must-orders and their signature dishes. The beef tongue is actually quite simple; it's delicious just from being lightly heated. The hot stone slab is served piping hot, perfect for searing meat. Be quick, or it will cool down. The Japanese fried chicken is tender, juicy, and incredibly fragrant. The seasoning is just right. The shrimp mayonnaise is plentiful and a perfect match for beer. The two seasonal or specialty dishes of the day weren't as good, and I wouldn't order them again. My advice is to order their most popular and classic dishes, and definitely make a reservation in advance if you want to come (especially on weekends, as the wait can be up to an hour).

The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making the entire dining experience very comfortable. From taking orders and serving food to providing excellent care throughout the meal, everything was done attentively without making me feel pressured. This natural and thoughtful service was a huge plus. The food also left a deep impression. Japanese cuisine demands high standards for ingredients and details, and Kingyo excelled in both taste, ingredients, and presentation. The restaurant's ambiance was also very Japanese--refined yet not overly formal, creating a comfortable and relaxing space. This visit left a very positive impression. The service, food, environment, and atmosphere all made me feel very comfortable, making it a restaurant I would definitely visit again.

One of the best parts is the ever-changing menu of daily specials alongside the regular menu, so there's always something new to try while still coming back to your favorites. This visit we ordered the shrimp garlic fried rice, Agedashi Nasu, Grilled Squid with Garlic Mayo, and an assortment of sashimi. The shrimp garlic fried rice is an absolute must every time. It's packed with flavor, perfectly seasoned, and somehow manages to be comforting without feeling too heavy. It is a large dish and can easily be shared by 3-4, depending on what else you order. We also love the Agedashi Nasu here with melt-in-your-mouth eggplant wrapped in a light, delicate coating that soaks up the savory broth. Service is always quick and organized, even when the restaurant is busy. Dishes arrive as they're ready, making it easy to share everything around the table, which is exactly how an izakaya experience should feel. If it's your first visit, don't skip the shrimp garlic fried rice, and make sure to check out the daily specials before ordering. They often feature seasonal dishes that aren't available on the regular menu and are well worth trying.

But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.
