We love coming to Alabama and eating at this franchise, but this store was terrible. The service was awful and subsequently, our food was lukewarm, at best. There were two servers and we drew the short straw. We waited at least 45 minutes for our food. While there was a large to go order before us, our food sat on the warming area (which didn't look to have a functioning warming light) for AT LEAST 10 minutes while our server walked around aimlessly. The server seemed to not be present. After we received our food (which was barely warm), we asked for malt vinegar; she acknowledged. We watched her go to the back for 5-7 minutes, walk back out, and proceed to the bathroom. 5 minutes later, we asked the other server; she went in the back for another five minutes. As she was walking to us, our server intercepted her and brought the malt vinegar. We were done eating. Again, we've never had a bad experience at a Shrimp Basket until today. Friendly greeting at the door! Seated easily (it was just before 5:00), and served quickly. Popcorn shrimp basket was great! I have eaten at the Shrimp Basket location in Bay Minette for over 20 years, but today's experience was my last time eating there. Me and my wife got seated around 11:35, a server came over and ask us what we were having to drink. 10 to 15 minutes later with me staring at her she came over and ask had she taken our order, our response was no. At 12:10 after watching several people come in after us eat and leave, I called her over and ask would she check on our order. At 12:30 I told my wife to get her purse that we were leaving, as I am going by the cashier our server was there I told her I wanted to pay for the coke and leave. She got the manager and came to me and apologized and said she was sorry. I told her we would never be back to the Bay Minette location ! There was another server there and her tables went like clock work, but the server we had the tables she had all seemed to have the same problem. read more

This place is so good we were traveling to Huntsville Al and decided to stop in for a bite. So glad we did the food was delicious we ordered the broiled seafood platter and it was probably the best I've ever eaten. We found this place on yelp and they accommodated our family 9f 14 very well. Our waitress was very good and patient. The boom boom shrimp are delicious. Several got the boom boom tacos. The white fish was a big hit! My blackened redfish was delicious. We was all very pleased with our meals and service. read more

I really enjoy this place. It is a simple little seafood restaurant with many locations along the gulf coast. I know every time I visit I can count on friendly and fast service and predictably good "bar food" type seafood. Today I was pleasantly surprised by the suggest to try the blackened white fish. I've never tried anything blackened here and it was quite good. I also had some fried shrimp and french fries, and the slaw might be homemade. If not it's a good store slaw. Service was fine but the food was substandard at best. We were the only customers in the building and the hostess and waitress were prompt and polite. Our orders came out timely but the food was lukewarm and flavorless. You would think that we would get hot, fresh fries but you would be wrong. They get two stars for the dining room staff alone. Highlights: shrimp slaw, hush puppies, corn fritters, blackened catfish, fried okra. Sweet potato fries were kinda limp, but quite tasty. Service was friendly enough. They left out the utensils, slaw, corn fritters and hush puppies initially but fixed the error quickly and apologetically. Will make it a go-to when we're in the area. We arrived in the afternoon so it wasn't very busy. We were welcomed immediately by the friendly staff. We chose to eat out side. There are ceiling fans and the tables and chairs are plastic, but comfortable. The service was great. The water glasses were kept full and our waitress was very attentive and professional. I ordered the coconut shrimp dinner, it came with fries and hush puppies. The cole slaw was delicious. The cocktail sauce had a slight overpowering lemon taste, but the food was excellent. There are 2 Seafood Restaurants in this sleepy little town. After talking to the locals, we opted to go here. We were not disappointed, with attentive staff and tasty food! I ordered a side salad with the Grilled Shrimp and my co worker the fried pickles and coconut shrimp. We were impressed with the quality and quantity of the food. Not sure why this spot has low ratings, has definitely improved from whatever it used to be! Our experience was all A+ and stressing the great experience for our group of 9 dropping in for lunch. Hard thing to put together 9 orders quickly and well. Everyone here was polite and attentive. Our food arrived timely and went down fast. We had a good variety between us which makes me wish for one of these further north (like Indiana!). The menu offers a solid options list and offers budget friendly picks. There are a few things that matter when I dine out: 1. The food 2. The service 3. The overall experience I'm from Utah, but grew up down south (grades 6-12 and undergrad). I was back "home" for a trip to Gulf Shores and needed a place to eat on the way to the beach. I read a few reviews and thought this would fit the bill. Here's my take: The food: It was good. Hot and plenty. The shrimp was freshly fried, the po-boy was tasteful (but fell apart on me), and the sides were tasty and nicely done. We had a problem with one aspect of the food order due to a mis-communication--but they quickly rectified it. The service: It started out okay, then deteriorated before being saved by the manager, Brittney. There was a problem in the back that turned out to cause a significant delay--almost to the point of us just walking out and going somewhere else for lunch. Having worked fast food during college, and knowing how tough it can be, I had sympathy for the situation. It was only after Brittney intervened that the situation became a non-issue. The overall experience: Brittney saved the day. I spoke with her two times during my visit. First to politely tell her there was a problem and ask how she would proceed (why be a jerk, right?), and second, to settle up at the end of our meal. I understand fast food/fast casual/low-key sit down is hard to staff, and it's a challenge for employees to do well without the right type of management and training. I could see the kitchen and witnessed Brittney jump in and get things on track. She wasn't rude about it, either. I couldn't hear her, but I watched her non-verbals and interactions and was pleased. I hope the owner reads this, because Brittney's actions saved the day. If it wasn't for her, I would not visit any other Shrimp Basket locations. She needs a thanks and maybe a little more. The service is fantastic! It's a small and simple place! I love cute spots like this! Our family all loved their menu picks! Try the Po Boy sandwich, it's only 6.99!! The food was great, but there restaurant didn't seem equipped to handle as many people as were there that night, so don't go if you want a quick meal because you'll likely be there at least 2 hours if you're there around dinnertime (this was a Wednesday.) Our food took probably an hour to get there after ordering, and they were all out of fries and burgers. It's an easy stop when coming through Bay Minette. If we don't feel like cooking when we are at the fish camp, we just drive into town and grab dinner. The AYCE on fish night is my favorite. Also the shrimp Mac and cheese is great. Normally there are good specials, But if you happen to go on a Friday night there are no specials. 2nd time ordering from here. Food was really good and tasted fresh although hubs could tell it was time for the oil to be changed. I got tacos which were good but there weren't even amounts of fish in each taco and one taco almost had no filler (the lettuce stuff they use). The stuffed crab was good but I wish it was all real crab meat instead of using imitation crab as a filler. Over all well go back bc the issues weren't major. read more
