Our experience here was honestly phenomenal. We sat outside on the screened in porch which was a great vibe. For drinks, we ordered mermaid water with a rum float and it was beachy and delish! For food, we got coconut shrimp to start, boom boom shrimp poboy with fried okra, and a cheeseburger. All was to die for. My husband and I kept looking at each other while we were eating like, "Omg this is SO GOOD." We plan on going back again during our trip because of how delicious the food was. Just genuinely on point. Our server was also very sweet and helpful. She let us know that they do alcohol to go, and can even get a gallon of the mermaid water to take to the beach! First restaurant we ate at during our Perdido visit this year and they hit it out of the park. Everything was absolutely perfect, especially the service. Erica went above and beyond. My husband got a shrimp basket, which was enormous, and I got the blackened red snapper which I absolutely will order again the next time we come. We also got a half dozen raw oysters and an order of the corn fritters...which are my favorite. Cannot recommend this restaurant more. read more

Tonight is our last night here in Perdido Key, so we decided to walk next door to the Shrimp Basket, and we're glad we did! Hailey was one of two of the best servers we had for the past 6 days, and we have eaten at multiple restaurants every single day. She was clearly busy with parties and other tables, but was still very attentive to our 2 top and fun to chat with! The boom boom shrimp is probably our favorite thing on the menu, and we tried to smoked tuna dip that was also very good! I just want to add that, even if the food had not been up to par, the service would've made up for it. We stopped in with no reservations and a party of 8. We got seated quickly on the patio, at our request. Not the best idea on an evening when it was hot and humid. Only 2 of their 4 fans were working. We ordered a dozen raw gulf oysters and the fried pickles for appetizers. Tried their house hot sauce with the oysters and it was very good. Our group ordered 2 Low Country Boil for Two, 1 Grilled Platter with Grouper and Gulf Shrimp, Slaw, Hushpuppies, Corn Fritters, Fried Okra and Cheese Grits and 2 of the Fried Shrimp Baskets. We stopped while on a road trip and wanted to have lunch. Since we are from Texas, we wanted to try some local food chains. Grabbed the free appetizer by signing up for shrimp basket. The dining area was cozy and crowded as it was the day after Christmas. Service was really good. We took Firecracker Fries and Seafood basket. It was a lot of food and we had some leftovers too. Came to Perdido Key from Memphis with the family, and we stopped at the Shrimp Basket for our first meal. If restaurants like Captain D's or Long John Silver's are your jam, then you'll love this place. Personally, I prefer my seafood to taste less like it made out with two different deep fryers and a heat lamp back to back. I got the seafood platter: grouper, popcorn shrimp, and tail on shrimp. Basically an overfried threesome with the hush puppies looking on in shame. Speaking of hush puppies, my daughter asked if they were supposed to taste like regret. The grouper and shrimp forgot to tell the chef their safe word before he tossed them in the fryer. The hush puppies just sat there, pretending not to watch. In the end, the chef and the deep fryer had their way with my dinner. By the way, my seafood's safe word was "Meatloaf." Fitting, since this was definitely the "I won't do that" part. Service was just as lifeless as the grouper, maybe because the food showed up already pre disappointed. Should you go? Stop over at Publix and grab a box of fish sticks. Cold, no flavor at all. Very disappointed. Service was not good at all! Came to table after we got our food and didn't see her again. Didn't get anything to crack the crab legs. Awful experience with that. The hush puppies and fritters were over cooked. Shrimp basket was extremely greasy. Never got refills and then $14.00. Won't be back while on vacation. Every time I visit Pensacola, this is #1 on my list of places to eat. In fact, I could eat there everyday. I am simple when it comes to seafood. Just feed me shrimp with cocktail sauce, and I am good to go. I like to order the 1 pound of steamed shrimp off the appetizer menu. Yes, I know...it's meant to be shared, but keep your hands off my shrimp because I'm not sharing. Not that I ever have room for anything else, but I do love their fries. Cooked to a crispy perfection. As for drinks, well, if you've read enough of my reviews, you know I am all about the sweet tea, and theirs passes. Never stale or sour. They have seating indoors and outdoors. The inside is cutely decorated with paintings. The bathrooms are clean, too. Finally, the staff is always pleasant, and they do this thing that many servers and hostesses don't seem to know how to do these days...smile! It was an unfortunate experience. The fish we had was not good. I had the white fish and my wife had shrimp. The fish was mushy and had an extremely "fishy" taste to it. Whitefish should generally be a mild flavor but this was bad. So much that I didn't even eat it. The shrimp was basic but very greasy (?) The service was fine and out waitress was attentive and checked in on us however I'm not one to complain to the staff so I just made the best of it and ate my fries Maybe other items would be better but this was a bad stop for me read more

The food is good and the servers are nice but the actual service was really slow. We waited 45 for a table (I get that and I'm not mad) but we ordered as soon as we sat down and 45 minutes before we got our starters. When we finally asked about them the server was surprised we hadn't gotten them, so 10 minutes later we got them. They didn't charge us for the starter, but they also didn't refresh drinks. The server said it was because they had too many to go orders. Call me old fashioned but the people in the restaurant should have their orders prioritized. Absolutely one of our favorite spots when in Pensacola or at Foley beach! Both locations have always been great! Brooklyn S. was our amazing server who really took the best care of us! Plenty of parking, the wait is never too long, even in the peek season tables turn pretty quickly. Pets are allowed, I only saw them on the deck. Everything was fresh and hot. We use to love Shrimp Basket and have been going there for 20+ years. They have changed their menu and the food is now horrible. They did away with their best fish, the white fish or Basa. Now all their fish taste very fishy. I buy their gift cards every November and now have hundreds of dollars in gift cards. This menu is horrible and we won't be going back there again. Why change something that worked? Who ever made this decision should be fired. We use to go at least once a month with a group of friends and all of us hate the new menu.
