Ahoy! This place is adorable inside and the food was very delicious! I was in the area for work today, when I asked my customer where she wanted to go she said let's go to Shrimp Ahoy as it literally was a few blocks from where we were. There was so many options on the menu, I thought everything would be fried but there were so many grilled options as well. The lunch specials are great, one main with 2 sides, there was 3 of us and we all had a lunch special and a soda and our bill was $41, not bad at all! I enjoyed the Grilled Alaskan Fillet and had double veggies, the other gal had the same as me but with a salad and our customer had the fried fish with a salad and they both loved the ranch dressing on the salad. If Reading this review, and are on the fence of deciding to go or not, just do yourself a favor and go. The fried shrimp are probably the best shrimp you will probably ever tasted in your life, along with the clam chowder. I highly recommend. Also the service alone is five star. Come hungry! If you like fried shrimp this is the place for you. It feels like this place would be somewhere by the beach, but it's a nice hidden gem in the middle of a residential area. There aren't very many home style fried seafood places like this left anymore. I had a michelada, and my wife the spiked lemonade - which was a good compliment to the fried goodness. We had a cup of Boston clam chowder and a small basket of zucchini fries. But there was nothing small about it. This is not a place where you would complain about portions or price. Let me start off by saying thank God they're still in business!!! My dad used to take my brothers and I when we were Kids and my mom to have dinner here often. It became our home away from home. My favorite! They're used to be a great server that looked like Xena from Hercules lol that's what we named her. We tried to eat here another night and it was packed so we didn't wait. Went back alone for early lunch. With three waitresses, there were six single patrons and a table of four. Was ignored throughout my meal: no check to see if things were okay and no offer to refill the iced tea. In fact, the waitress stayed at the other end of the restaurant so I couldn't even flag her down. Case of mistaken identity? I had the fried shrimp which tasted fresh. The coleslaw didn't have anything in it including dressing, just dry. The side of beans and rice was average tasting. The dessert menu looked especially good, unfortunately I did not try it. For the people that don't eat fish - The burger was really good! My husband had the steak and said it was really good too! The rest of the family had different shrimp plates and enjoyed it all. I live nearby​ and have driven past this restaurant countless times but have never stopped in. Decided to come here today to have dinner with my brother. Since we had a late lunch, we opted to share the Captain Paul's Combo which came with clam chowder, shrimp salad, 2 jumbo shrimp, 3 scallops, 1 fish, and choice of side ​dish (we got the red beans and rice). I was really excited to try this place and wanted to love the food. Unfortunately, my brother and I both agreed that the seafood all tasted rubbery. The clam chowder and shrimp salad were​ just ok, not spectacular. The red beans and rice was probably the best tasting of the whole meal, which is quite disappointing since this is a "Shrimp House". I guess for $14 though, we can't really complain too much because you do get quite a lot of food. I also ordered the carrot cake, which I did like. I do have to mention, the service was really great. Our waitress was Marie (Maria?), and she was very personable and stopped by our table many times to make sure we were happy. 5 star for the service!! All in all, we probably would not come back for the seafood. "I want my stomach space back..." Those were the first words I heard after we finished eating, and it echoed my sentiments perfectly. I don't write reviews often. In fact, this is the second one I will write on yelp, but my experience here really warranted one, considering we were led astray by some of the reviews written by other yelpers. I live down the street from this place, and I always drive past and think to myself that I should try it. Today, on my way back from the gym, me and my lady friend were contemplating on what we should do for dinner. We had left over pizza from lunch, and talked about getting italian, but we drove past and remembered we had wanted to try this place out. Now let me be clear: the service here is not the problem. The service was great: my water was always refilled promptly and our server came by frequently to check on us. My qualms are strictly with the quality of the food. I ordered Captain's Deluxe, lobster mac n' cheese (yelp recommended), and some krabby cakes. If any of you have seen "Restaurant Impossible", I felt like Robert Irvine when our food got to our table. The clam chowder that they're supposedly known for seemed like it was straight out of a can. It was watery and there's no dressing it up, it just wasn't good. Campbell's Chunky Clam Chowder is considerably better. The salad had small cocktail shrimps that had a mushy, grainy consistency that made the salad hard to swallow down. I should have known better than to order the krabby cakes, but it also seemed like it was packaged and was pretty much all filler and no crab. No wonder they spell it with a k..... The lobster mac n cheese was next to come out. It looked decent, but as soon as I stuck my fork into it, I knew I was going to be disappointed. I could tell right off the bat that the pasta had been sitting around for a while because it was soggy. It was bland, neither cheesy nor was there any lobster taste. We tried adding salt and pepper, but there was just no saving it. The Captain's deluxe (one jumbo shrimp, fish filet, scallops and a side - fries) came out next. Everything on the plate was all frozen a very short time ago. The best thing about the plate was the seasoning on the fries. We asked our server (this may give away who we are, sorry whoever was our server, you were great) for more of the seasoning that was on the fries, and ended up putting it on everything because the food was just so bland. After the addition of the seasoning, our food became marginally more palatable. I was raised in an immigrant household, where you're taught to finish everything on your plate, or (insert random superstition here). That's the only reason we shoved everything down. But in the end, if I could give zero stars for food quality, I would. I don't know what kind of food the people who rate this place anything more than 2 stars are accustomed to, and I'm far from a gourmet, but it really makes me wonder what the heck those people are eating... Maybe since it's a local joint, fond reviews come out of a place of nostalgia, like how I feel about Norm's, but I would have been better off just eating the left over pizza. ***Update My retort to the owner: I came in on a Friday, January 24. I appreciate your response to me, but to discredit my review of your establishment because it was unfavorable and call it a "disservice to everybody who uses Yelp" is rather unprofessional. A more appropriate response would have been just to apologize for my experience, not to attack my review You took time to break down my review, bit by bit, so allow me to return the favor. You make no mention of my comments about your clam chowder that had the consistency of country gravy in your comments back to me. So you are either conceding that it is out of the can or acknowledging that it is that bad. I am by no means a gourmet, but even the clam chowder at Souplantation is exponentially better than what you try to pass off as clam chowder. Maybe you should spell that with a K as well... As for the lobster mac n cheese, you may have four cheeses in them, but I was not able to taste any of them. I would have just settled for one cheese if it meant the mac would actually be cheesy. As I stated originally, the mac n cheese was not cheesy, it was dry and the pasta was soggy, which is a clear indication that it was made in a big batch early on and was just sitting around. There's a reason we had to ask our server for seasoning, and why we ended up putting it on more than just the fries. As for the Krabby cakes, they were essentially all filler, as I stated, so are you trying to justify your $5.50 price point for what are essentially mushy potato latkas? Happened to drive by this place on accident. Went there around 4 or 5 in the evening. Was extremely hungry and decided to give it a try. I am not a huge fish and chips person, but I do love my shrimp. My bf and I were greeted right away, we took a seat and were brought menus. The prices are reasonable for seafood (keep in mind that most EVERYTHING on the menu is fried). I was a little skeptical about "large or jumbo" shrimp because those terms can be deceiving, but I was definitely not dissapointed. The breading is done in house, very light, crunchy and not at all greasy. Large shrimp are really large and not because they are mostly covered in breading like some places, but they are really large. I had the 3 large shrimp and 1 fish plate with fries and coleslaw. The coleslaw wasn't all to exciting, very generic, the shrimp cocktail sauce and the tartar sauce was good, and I am guessing made in house. The reason I give this place the whole 5 stars is because of the service. Rosie was our server and she was more than excellent. We never once had to ask to have our drinks refilled, and we were THIRSTY. They did not hound us but were very attentive and even offered my bf tartar sauce and cocktail sauce to go with his leftovers. We were so pleased with the service we left a 30% tip. The food alone was 3.5 - 4 stars at best. The service +5, awesome! read more

I remember when this was Shrimp Ahoy. Mmm, mmm, good! Don't come here expecting a gourmet, tablecloth, glass of water meal. Come here for great breaded seafood and a menu that has something for everyone. Between my wife and I we had meals that had breaded shrimp, fish, and oysters. My meal started with a cup of clam chowder. They offer both red and white. I hadn't heard those terms to describe clam chowder for a while now and was puzzled for a second when she asked me which I wanted. I went with New England and was pleased with what I got. A good size cup of creamy chowder with plenty of clam. My meal also came with their shrimp salad, which I would come back for. Nothing fancy, but it was fresh, cool, and tasty. My wife's meal came with rice pilaf which was standard and coleslaw that rivaled (in my opinion) the coleslaw at The Pantry, which is my favorite. As far as the seafood on our plates everything was tasty, warm, fresh, and served with our choice of sides. Their tartar sauce is good and sweet, and I also enjoyed my food with a little malt vinegar. The portions are reasonable and the food is not cheap but definitely worth the price. Seems like meals were anywhere from $8 to $15 on average. They even have steak, frog legs, fried pickle slices, and a good selection of desserts. I probably won't be back for a while because this is the type of food I don't want to get used to, I would like to keep it as a special treat. However I will definitely be back! read more

The breaded shrimp here is simply delicious, you actually are eating nice juicy pieces of shrimp instead of breaded batter like most places. There for, this is the only place I get shrimp. Their red clam chowder has just the right amount of spice to get, just enough to give a good kick to it. My family have been coming here for years. Came in for dinner with my family a couple of nights ago. We ordered apps, entrees and desserts. The thing that's great about this place is the homemade factor. The breading on the fish and shrimp is so so good. The potato chip appetizer was awesome and the fried banana dessert was to die for.
