I don't really understand all the negative feedback on this restaurant... While it wasn't anything spectacular it isn't anything horribly disgusting. And for the price you pay and the great service... I mean you get your money's worth. I came here on a Sunday afternoon with my boyfriend. We passed by this place a few times on our way to the 605. I always kinda joked about eating there and one day my boyfriend divulged that he had actually been here with his grandparents. He said it was actually pretty good and we should try it, so we did. We were probably the only people there that were younger than 50 but its okay...I mean it made sense then why my boyfriend had gone here with his grandparents. The decor kinda reminded me of Spongebob Squarepants and inside I was singing "who lives in a barnacle under the sea..." but hey it adds character. The food was actually pretty good (better than you would expect being so far from the ocean and all) and the service was great. I ordered the jumbo shrimp plate which came with 2 large battered shrimp and 2 sides - I got the french fries and the steamed veggies. The boy got the 2 shrimp, halibut combo with french fries and rice pilaf. My shrimp were good and just perfectly fried. They weren't disgustingly greasy. The boy liked his plate too and said the halibut was very much like eating fish and chips. All in all our bill came out to $21.95 not bad for the food we got. The portions aren't too big but they are definitely filling. In summation, the two of us will definitely be returning here. Minus one star because even though its good it isn't like eating on the pier where the seafood is just caught but for the SGV it will definitely do. Next time we come we'll definitely partake in the clam chowder and will probably get the coconut shrimp. I ordered fried zucchini and coconuts shrimp as an appetizer. The zucchini was nicely fried and the coconut shrimp was sweet & crunchy. Liked both. I ordered Captain Paul's deluxe fried seafood combo. It comes with your choice of Manhattan or Boston chowder. I chose the Boston (white) chowder, and it was a good thick & rich chowder. The combo also came with a salad which was good. The platter itself came with 3 fried scallops (really thick fried outer layer and hot scallop juice flowed out when you bite into it). I came here because my coworker had a groupon deal. It was a good deal, but the food was not very good. We both ordered the Seafood Combination, which was greasy and tasteless. Had to go out to get tea/coffee after to rinse out the greasy taste left in our mouths. The Seafood Combination came with fried fish, fired scallops, and fried shrimp. I live nearby​ and have driven past this restaurant countless times but have never stopped in. Decided to come here today to have dinner with my brother. Since we had a late lunch, we opted to share the Captain Paul's Combo which came with clam chowder, shrimp salad, 2 jumbo shrimp, 3 scallops, 1 fish, and choice of side ​dish (we got the red beans and rice). I was really excited to try this place and wanted to love the food. Unfortunately, my brother and I both agreed that the seafood all tasted rubbery. The clam chowder and shrimp salad were​ just ok, not spectacular. The red beans and rice was probably the best tasting of the whole meal, which is quite disappointing since this is a "Shrimp House". I guess for $14 though, we can't really complain too much because you do get quite a lot of food. I also ordered the carrot cake, which I did like. I do have to mention, the service was really great. Our waitress was Marie (Maria?), and she was very personable and stopped by our table many times to make sure we were happy. 5 star for the service!! All in all, we probably would not come back for the seafood. The breaded shrimp here is simply delicious, you actually are eating nice juicy pieces of shrimp instead of breaded batter like most places. There for, this is the only place I get shrimp. We have been here a few times. This past weekend the five of us used the $50 gift certificate from restaurant.com. The calamari ($5.49) is tasty but serving is small, shrimp cocktail ($7.50) you get like 8 shrimp and it was nothing special, top sirloin steak (8 oz.), two little lobster tails, and two deep fried battered shrimp(3 x $17.99) the steak was pretty good for being sirloin, they could omit the red seasoning on the lobster and it would be much better, the shrimp as always is great, rainbow trout ($11.69) it was good and would order it again, rice pudding (3 x $4.25) is divine and not for the dieter, a diet coke ($2.55) and a Hefeweizen ($4.25). After all that food we ended paying $78. I think the $25 gift certificate is a way better deal. When it is just my husband, my son and I we get out of there paying $20. I used to come here when it was called Shrimp Ahoy, and from what I can recall, not much has changed now that it is Shrimp House, it still delivers tasty fish to your face. I don't come here that often, but it emancipates my taste buds from the doldrums every time. Here are the basics: Ample parking, friendly staff, quirky mariner-inspired decor, roomy booth-seating, plenty of natural light from the many windows, large menu, and did I mention they wear sweet ocean-themed shirts? This is a comfortable place to come with the family or friends, the food is no frills but is always delivered hot and is very well prepared, they aren't going for a michelin star but the execution is clean, simple, and tastes good. The popcorn shrimp is a great appetizer here, it is plentiful and the breading is seasoned well and never oily. The fish filet sandwich is VERY filling, and their tartar sauce is really good with a sweet finish. The jumbo shrimp don't disappoint in size, and equally keep you satisfied with their flavor. The french fries are tasty, thick cut, and remind me of Jims Burgers, which I like. I haven't had their chowders or non-fish fare, so I can't comment there. It's Thursday during Lent and I am thinking about where to go for fish tomorrow. If last week was any indication I will be back to the Shrimp House. The service is on point, bringing us our chowder and salad faster than I could say more than two sentences about how busy it is today. Both of us were starved after dealing with a car issue so we're happy to have something to eat right away. We barely got into our delicious soups before the coconut shrimp came, hot and bursting with flavor. By the time we were almost finished with soup the entrees came. I had the grilled halibut and my companion had the fried version. Both were fantastic. The whole time of our meal beverages were refilled before I even had to ask. What's left to say? Had dinner at The Shrimp House yesterday &the food was delicious plus they had a pretty good beer selection AND even though it was busy, the service was prompt! My server, Maria was delightful and really on top of things. I'm glad everything after I got seated went so well because my visit started off terribly when I was scolded like a child by one of the waitresses for sitting down in a booth she believed was for someone else. It's not like I took it upon myself to sit anywhere I wanted, I sat there because 1. The seating host told me to, 2. A very nice bus boy named Damian lead me to that booth and asked if he could get me something to drink and 3. My waitress, Maria greeted me and didn't tell me there was anything wrong ... SO the fact that this server named, Itsel, came at me as if I was in the wrong without talking to her coworkers first was very upsetting. Maria even told her it was ok'd by the seating host, who I believe was the manager, and Itsel still kept repeating that I was in the wrong. This is a hole in the wall type of restaurant. So you have to keep that in mind when you see that this place has four stars on Yelp. But it's good food, I always get either the Jumbo fried shrimp or the surf and turf both are very good. For appetizers the fried pickles or calamari are both delicious. If you go into this place thinking its a true "4 star" then you will be disappointed. My review is principally based on the Shrimp Scampi. I have had this dish at many restaurants in different cities in North America and state that the Shrimp House chef really knows his stuff! The shrimp was cooked to perfection (i.e., not overcooked) and the garlic butter was outstanding (in fact, after finishing her shrimp, my wife used the sauce as a condiment on her veggies). As an added benefit, the garlic was in sufficient quantity to protect us from any vampire attacks! The sirloin steak was large and tasty but not cooked exactly as we had ordered it. We had both requested medium but one was medium well and the other was medium rare; I guess the chef was concentrating on preparing the scampi but no big deal. We will definitely be back the next time we have doctor appointments in Arcadia. read more

I have been going here for years! They have really good seafood! Made another visit yesterday and had the sea food salad, a bowl of clam chowder, and an order of scallops that served as an appetizer. The seafood salad had baby shrimp and and crab meat, which was delicious, however they need to work on their clam chowder. It was a bit too watery and to me didn't taste really like clam chowder, it also didn't have hardly any clams. But even everything else was great. Huge fan of this place. The fried shrimp are AWSOME. Unlike no other I've ever had, I prefer the large as apposed to the jumbo. Maybe because I feel the jumbos have to much batter. But the shrimp with tarter sauce are off the hook!! I believe they use pie crust instead of ordinary breading that's why they are so good. I've also had the steak and it was really good.
