Very disappointed! It was recommended to us as a good place eat . The hype was better than the food, The place is no frills and devoid of service. Order through a line with menu pasted above the order window Given a number for your order The kitchen window shoves your food out for pickup Serve yourself drink fountain The food was subpar You would think that a seafood restaurant on Galveston Island would serve large gulf shrimp Not here ! The tiny shrimp were actually closer to bait. Truly a lack luster meal! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Here's a tip if you like to dine in comfort. The main dining room is competing with kitchen heat[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The open air atrium is breezy but hot[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The adjacent room with the men's restroom is Very cold and enjoyable Regardless of the reviews you read , Trust me this is a place to skip Go to Katie's on the pier You'll be better served

Cute little counter service place with unexpectedly good food! We went for restaurant week special and got gumbo with a shrimp po'boy. Both were really good! Gumbo has just the right amount of flavor without being too spicy. Shrimp was fresh and fried to perfection. Also came with seasoned fries and a drink - lots of food! Took home leftovers and actually ate them - which is a sign we really enjoyed it!

Stopped here while visiting Galveston for some fried shrimp and thought it was delicious! The shrimp was fresh and the breading was crispy. The portion was HUGE! Definitely enough to split with someone. The staff was kind and gave a great recommendation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I liked the outside picnic tables, but there's plenty of indoor seating as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would definitely recommend for a great poboy!

We have eaten here three times and can't wait to come back! The shrimp is delicious! I've had it deep fried and boiled and I honestly can't pick a favorite one. The service is great - fast and easy, just walk up and order, get a buzzer and your drink, find a place to sit and bam! Your food is ready! [[HIGHLIGHT]]You can sit inside or outside on picnic tables or regular tables, take your pick.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a little misleading because as you are driving there, you're thinking you're in a residential neighborhood but it's on a corner with lots of parking.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Besides all that, you're going to be super excited at the prices - hmmm , maybe that's just one more reason why I keep coming back? Well, I guarantee once you've been there, you'll go back too!

First of all I'm bias. I remember coming here as a kid, tween, early teen, punk high schooler, 21 year old dumb butt and now back with my family. Could be nostalgia but I doubt it. What we ate: Fried shrimp po'boy side of hush puppies 2 pints of gumbo 1 bowl of gumbo A create a platter with boiled shrimp coconut shrimp potato's and hush puppies. Fried Shrimp po boys - it's good. A long time favorite and barely out of first place for my all time favorite. Shrimp perfectly fried. Bun just right. Lettuce and sauce hard to beat. I hate tomatoes but they are probably pretty good. I like mine with a few cracks of black pepper and some malt vinegar soaked into the bun. Gumbo - couple two tre splashes of hot sauce and it is just as good as any of them. We came in a day when it was in the 40's and it sure hit the spot against the cold. Highly recommend crumbling up some hush puppies in it. We got a lot and probably could have made it work with just 1 pint. The platter - (keep in mind my wife is a yankee from Oklahoma) coconut mid- did not like the sauce "too sweet". Boiled shrimps - good would eat another helping right now. Boiled potatoes "these are the best I have ever had" "I could eat these till I keeled over" she ate all of her plate and after sharing and mixing we maybe had 1/2 a bowl of gumbo left. The service is friendly and efficient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance is some kinda something. Diner? Dive? Are we in Maine? It's cool and homey and feels like a local secret. Not on the beach but beach feeling.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] With three locations this one on avenue o feels like where the locals still go? Idk it still makes me happy like it has all these years!

My son loves the fries. He ate all of his chicken tenders which is a rare plus. I had the fried shrimp. I ordered onion rings and fries and there must've been thirty onion rings. Extremely generous! Josh puppies were good, too. I typically don't like hush puppies with jalapeño but these weren't too spicy. My husband got the platter with half fried shrimp and half coconut shrimp. He absolutely loved the coconut shrimp! I can't place the flavor in their cocktail sauce but it is NOT horseradish and it's very unique. We would absolutely come back. They had outdoor seating which my five year-old loved!

I haven't been here in ten years but when I was in high school (a block over) and we had a one hour open campus lunch, I always came and got a fried shrimp po boy. I was in 9th grade at the time and couldn't drive anywhere and this was the closest place to walk to besides the cafeteria. We got all the fried things today. Fried shrimp, coconut shrimp, crab balls, and fried oysters. All stuff was freshly fried and hot when we received it. Service was fast and the line moved along really quickly. Good movement from tables so you were never just waiting. Parking on the streets and in front was easy. I also learned there's a parking lot they have now which was a surprised to me. Indoor and outdoor seating are both available.

Are dogs allowed in your outdoor area dining?

Yes we ate there in April and had our dog with us and we ate on the patio!!

What is the peak time for dining at the Spot?

The crowd size varies since it is a local hangout. You just never know when the line will be short and when it will be out the door. The staff does do a great job getting folks seated and fed. The food is great and well worth the wait.

Hi where do you get your shrimp from?

Out of the Gulf of Mexico and they are not farmed shrimp at any of their locations. Shrimp N Stuff like Katie's and Mario's on the Seawall get their shrimp from a seafood market along the Gulf Coast. I don't think Gaido's can say that!

    Is beer/wine served?

Too bad you no serve margarita. Even vino margaritas would be better than none. Remember when Salsa served them before they moved to the Pancho's building? They were better than water over bricks.

I always appreciate when staff is excited about specific plates. The trip was dynamite. The sauce was TOO GOOD. Like, we wanted to drink what was left. 5 stars just for that. My wife loved the oysters. The lobster roll had quite a bit of lobster in it. Super buttery and filling. Solid fries. This was a very pleasant stop on our trip.

Our lunch was absolutely delicious. Here's the rundown: 1 appetizer of ahi tuna won-ton, 2 raw oyster samplers, 2 Galveston Island Brewing blondes, 1 dirty gin martini with blue cheese stuffed olives, and one to-go bottle of Cat Five hot sauce. I am not a huge fan of tuna, but this ahi/poke style of tuna with actual umami flavor elevates a mild sushi gateway fish to something yummy. The oysters were a delight. Shucks has a color coded system in place to help you identify which oysters are which, but my tired old eyes can't seem to make their system work. I did have two favorite kinds but could not tell you what they were. No matter, they were all superior - and small like east coast/ Canadian bivalves are. Dan's beer was tasty and swillable and my martini was appropriately dirty. We got the hot sauce because you can never have enough condiments and cats were referenced in its name. Our server was friendly and efficient. Interesting to me, I was mildly making fun of their music selection and soon after it changed. Coincidence? Dunno, but I appreciated the change to Motown! Bottom line. So, so enjoyable and something we don't do too often these days. It was an expensive meal, but worth the splurge.

Fish Company Taco proved to be like finding water in the desert. A lot of Galveston eateries are very similar, in that there's an ample amount of fried seafood on the menu, which is not exactly what you're looking for when you're in the bloated, but wanting to eat *something* state that we were in. My thought was: fish tacos are relatively light and we can walk there from our hotel - how do you beat that? What I didn't realize is that this place probably belongs more in the Heights than Galveston. And I mean that in a good way. The menu is very hipster-coded. And the food matches with hipster quality. It's hard to say what my favorite item even was. The one thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the fish dip - it was just okay. Everything else ranged from good to great. We tried... The burger: FYI, it's more like a double stacked slider than a burger, but delicious. 3 Tacos: Dirty South, Empire and Korean Flavors. I really liked the empire and the korean flavors, but thought the dirty south had a little too much going on with the pimento cheese and chips. Sticky Shrimp: I don't even know how to describe this, but it was delicious. I thought it as more like bang bang shrimp, but it was more fried that I expected. But not hardcore fried - they almost had the airy texture of fried pork skins, but were much tastier. Chili marinated Cucumbers and corn ribs: Simple, refreshing and addicting. But I liked the cucumbers a bit more. They also had some fresh juices and we enjoyed both the mango and the coconut lime concoctions. An easy 5-stars for me and a place I will definitely recommend to anyone visiting Galveston.

The Vietnamese taco stood out the most for me, while the Baja and Korean flavors were just okay, not really my favorites. Overall, it's a chill spot with a relaxed vibe and not too crowded.
