    Flavors of India cake

We ordered a Flavors of India cake from Shru's online store. The order and pick up process was very easy and straightforward. The cake had incredible flavors and was beautiful. We can't wait to try the other flavors. We also love that the cakes are completely vegan (no dairy, no eggs, no honey).

Must try I tried a variety box with a samosa galette, saffron cake, cardamom rose pistachio roll, and chai banana bundt cake, and everything was amazing. The frosting on the saffron cake wasn't too sweet, and the consistency was perfect. The samosa galette was rich with flavor, and I wish I had more of it! I highly recommend trying out Shru's Kitchen

I have been getting cakes from Shru's Kitchen for over a year. My favorite cakes are the Flavors of India and the Classic Chocolate. They are delicious and the icing on the cake is that they are vegan (no pun intended)- people don't even notice it's vegan until I mention it to them! I highly recommend Shru's Kitchen for your special occasions and am sure you won't be disappointed. Try it for yourself!

I ordered a small flavors of India cake, and it was delicious! The owner is also super friendly and nice, and very accommodating. The cake was flavorful, and nicely decorated! I loved that it wasn't overly sweet. Pickup was also very well coordinated, will definitely be back to place another order!

Shru's Kitchen is a great little cottage bakery. We ordered a 6" flavors of India cake on her website, and the process for ordering and pickup was very simple. The cake was delicious and unique. Perfect sweetness levels. The cardamom, pistachio and coconut went so well together, and the cake itself was beautiful. The 6" cake was pretty big and enough to serve at least 8 people. We had leftovers, which was not a bad problem to have! We liked it so much, we made a field trip to Pastries and Pups in Oakland to try her pop-up baked goods. There, we got another flavors of India cake square (still just as amazing) and a chai spiced banana bread. The banana bread is the best I've ever had. The ratio of banana to chocolate to chai spice was bliss - you know when something is just perfect? I wish I still had some now! Shru's kitchen isn't just a good vegan bakery, it's a good bakery. 5/5!

Shruti filled a much needed space in the market for vegan cakes. Her recipes are innovative, creat and quite frankly some of the most delicious desserts I've ever had! She's also super punctual and responsive and gives you all the info you need on ordering, paying, pickup, and cake care instructions. She's my one stop shop for all celebrations!

Absolutely love her cakes. We have tried their Flavors of India and the Matcha pistachios so far and liked both but prefer the Flavors of India. We were a little scared at first since we have never tried Indian cake before. It did not disappoint and we just loved every bite!!! The star was really the coconut cream. Where do you find vegan cake with affordable prices and quality ingredients? Here of course! Shru is also very nice and responses quickly to inquires on IG. She is dedicated to her profession! Love her! She now accepts DoorDash and Porch Pickup orders as well. Her cakes all come out beautifully with her eligible toppings such as eligible rose petals and pistachios.

My husband recently got the Flavors of India cake for my birthday from Shru's kitchen as I am trying to reduce dairy in my diet and I absolutely LOVED it. The cake tasted like mithai (Indian sweet) with flavors of coconut, cardamom and rose. The decoration was just so beautiful and we got a beautiful Happy Birthday cake topper to go with it. Highly recommend if you are looking for a vegan cake (great even if you are not :) ) .

We ordered the matcha pistachio cake and it was delicious! Very light and not too sweet so you could actually taste the flavors. The size is perfect for a small group of 8 people. Looks-wise it's pretty, with a good amount of the candied orange and pistachios on the top, and the coconut cream icing was spread in a good size layer (not too thick). The whole process from ordering on Shru's website to talking through email to confirm my place on the calendar to paying and picking up was a breeze and I would definitely keep Shru's Kitchen at top of mind when ordering a cake next time.

I've most recently had the rose milk cake. This cake is so moist and delicious! It tastes like rose but not too sweet or floral. I got this cake to celebrate my oldest daughter getting into her college choice! She loved it! I seriously check every week to see what she's making because I have more flavors I want to try! Oh and it's vegan if that matters for those of you reading.

My new favorite baker in the peninsula! After a year of quarantine birthdays and trying all the gluten free vegan custom cakes in the Bay, we finally found a favorite with the perfect cake! Shruti is absolutely amazing to work with and she's really open to all the crazy requests we have. My family has all these different and contradicting dietary restrictions, allergies and sensitivities, but we were able to get us a perfect cake for our family. There have been bakeries that up charge you for making something vegan and gluten free but don't even know how to make something vegan. Shruti's cakes are simple ingredients that bring out the best in a cake. The first I ordered was Flavors of India, which felt like a trip to the Indian markets with a beautiful marrriage of pistachio, cardamom and rose. So so thankful she was willing to swap out the traditional buttercream to do a custom rose coconut cream for us. This has been the ideal buttercream I've been looking for since going vegan and missing the Whole Foods Berry Chantilly cake. I love the creams made of heavy whipping cream, whipped to a fluff with minimal sugar, but most bakeries use a pasty icing of powdered sugar, which makes it grainier and we usually scoop it off. (Won't mention names but for some custom cakes we literally take the pic and then scoop off the hard caked up icing). But with the rose coconut cream in this cake we were able to enjoy all of that cream, no one wasted a bit of it! Best part is the lovely rose fragrance infused in the cream. This is my absolute favorite! This one completely surpasses my pre-vegan favorite cake (Whole Foods Berry Chantilly) and is the perfect texture and sweetness. I've been so happily sharing this with my family because we now have a solid go-to baker for all of our cakes (but mainly, I now have a go-to for all my vegan dessert cravings in the peninsula!) I can't express how hard it's been to get a good vegan cake...if the cake is good the frosting is too sweet/grainy, if the cream is good the cake is dry. the only ones that come close are raw vegan because the cream is a smooth decadent cashew/macademia and coconut oil. No hate to other vegan spots in the bay, but Shruti's has been the only one that tastes like a real cake and isn't an overcompensation of sugar and fillers. There haven't been many places lately that I could feel comfortable giving my full recommendation for, but if you're looking for a cake for your next gathering (or just to indulge in for yourself), I would fully recommend Shruti for all of the Bay Area cakes. This is a solid solid solid cake option for vegans and non-vegans alike.

I'm amazed at how good this cake tasted. It's flavorful, moist, not too filling with just the right amount of sweetness. I will definitely be ordering again!

Amazing vegan cake! My daughter is allergic to dairy & egg so it was difficult finding a cake that would be delicious and suit her allergies. I ordered the Flavors of India. Shruti was incredibly kind and responsive to all my questions. Since I am breastfeeding, I also have to be dairy free and I wish I found Shru's Kitchen earlier! This is the best vegan cake I've ever had.

I was excited to learn they partner with The Butcher's Son for vegan mozzarella and meats. I've been a big fan of The Butcher's Son food for a while, and I love their mozzarella sticks, even though I usually don't like vegan cheese. I went with a medium 1/2 and 1/2 pizza: Vegan Meatzza and Vegan Buffalo Chicken. I also tried the Vegan Cannoli. The pizza was hot and ready when I arrived, and they sealed it with a 100% vegan sticker, which I thought was a nice touch. I really enjoyed both flavors! It's tough to pick a favorite between the two, but the pepperoni on the meatzza was delicious, and the buffalo and ranch combo on the buffalo chicken was tasty. Surprisingly, my favorite was the cannoli. Even though I usually prefer savory over sweet, the cannoli was amazing. I loved every bite, though I think adding chocolate chips to the filling would have made it even better. Overall, it was a 10 out of 10 experience! I can't wait to try other vegan pizza combos.

The pizza was made fresh, it was delicious and came out fairly quick. The onion rings and waffle fries definitely hit the spot while we waited for our pizza to come out. The service was wonderful from the get-go - they were extremely friendly and attentive the entire time, and made us feel very welcomed. And though we arrived on the slightly later side, they never made us feel rushed. The interior of Rin-Tei is minimalist and cozy, and had a very familial feel, as virtually all the tables are connected by a long bench along the wall. It contributes to the inviting, inclusive atmosphere of the restaurant, making it a great spot to meet up with friends. We ordered a variety of dishes which we all split, including: the garlic shrimp, the Vietnamese papaya salad, cold sesame TanTan pho, keema curry, calamari, sizzling wagyu loin, and a couple drinks. And everything we had was excellent! My personal favorites were the sizzling wagyu loin, which was perfectly cooked and abundantly juicy and flavorful, and the warm, tasty keema curry. The broth was smooth and sweet which was nice, but IMO after a few bites in it started to taste more one-dimensional and plain. It lacked that level of depth that I typically get from pho. I tried the green curry too and felt the same way about that dish. I was also disappointed because they ended up not having their poached chicken appetizer in stock. :( Service was great on the other hand - I think only con was that our meals all came out at different, staggering times so we kept having to wait for one dish after the other.

I ordered their #1 recommendation, the Homura Aburasoba, and immediately scarfed it down. Popping the perfectly runny egg yolk into the noodles was incredibly satisfying, and every bite was packed with rich, savory umami. The noodles themselves were thick, chewy, and had a great bite that held up well to the sauce. I also tried the Wagyu dish, but it arrived more cooked than it appeared in the photos, which made the texture and overall experience a bit underwhelming. The sauce also leaned on the creamier side, which isn't my favorite pairing with Wagyu, so I'd probably skip that one next time. That said, the Homura Aburasoba alone is worth coming back for and easily earns Kajiken a well-deserved 5/5.

We felt very rushed and pushed to place our orders, which didn't make sense as the restaurant wasnt very busy at that time. And they had plenty of staff just standing around the back so it wasn't like they were short staffed trying to stay afloat on orders or something. I also don't recommend ordering your appetizer and main dish together, as they all came at the same time and made it hard to eat our main dish as it gets cold quick which it also says on the instructions on how to eat these noodles. After all the rushing to place our orders we never even received one of our appetizers yet we were being charged for it.... -Long story short, food was okay -Dont order your apps and meal together unless you want it all at the same time - Service needs work... stop rushing your customers...

It is located in downtown San Mateo so we just walked around the streets whiling queuing. Starting off with the drinks lemongrass ginger ($8) was such a lovely combination and reminded me of ginger drinks my mom used to make. The milo coconut freeze ($9) was my absolute favorite, Milo is a typical Vietnamese childhood drink that I remember and it paired so well with the coconut freeze and herbal jelly! Fish sauce chicken wings ($17) were also so amazing the sauce was nice and flavorful, the wings were crispy and not soggy despite being drenched in the sauce, and the added salad/vegetables in the dish with the extra sauce was addicting. Next for us was "what da duck" ($44) garlic noodle with duck, which was something I wasn't thinking too much about because garlic noodles are just garlic noodles, but this dish paired with the duck and sauce blew me out of the park. The duck was so nice and tender and the garlic noodles were perfectly al dente. Lastly the SeaZilla ($125), it came with a variety of seafood items such as abalone, softshell crab, lobster, and more. It is combined on top with a banh canh base of lobster roe broth. Overall I loved the fresh seafood that was in the dish and the broth. I think it is a dish to splurge and try on once.
