    Turkey sub with mayo.
    Christina H.

I'm fairly sure this place hasn't changed since I was a kid. And thank goodness for that. They make the best subs and they're always consistent - they will taste exactly as you expect every single time. My go to has always been the turkey sub but they're all good. They use the best rolls that's are toasted to crispy, golden perfection. The fried apps are all good too: onion rings, fries.

LOVE THIS PLACE!! Back in the day this place used to be full. Times man. You can still find it actively busy every lunch with online orders and people sitting for lunch. Probably the best Turkey sub you can get around. If you're ever at that corner, and you're thinking BK..... change your mind and go to John and Mary's! Shop and support Local!!

Good quick lunch! Nice people, good service, did the trick! Clean and simple seating. Plenty of seating.

    Best ham sub ever!

A Simple Sub but simply the best! I'm a huge fan of their legendary A Bomb but the also have the best ham sub hands down. Provolone cheese, un-shredded lettuce (refreshing for a change) and old school oil and vinegar complete this beauty! Try one today and tell them that Gary Z sent you!

My first dining in experience since COVID 19 started. Reasonable food prices, clean dining area, all recommended guidelines were followed. Ordered a mini turkey sub, medium loganberry, sweet potato fries.

Capacollo mini with my favorite French fries.

John and Mary were my aunt and uncle, and I grew up on John and Mary's so please excuse me for being a tiny bit biased The owners of this location are my cousins. They've taken great care to maintain the family recipes and the food tastes just as good today as it did when I was a teenager. I love our local hot sauces: Ted's. Louis'. The hot sauce here has more zing than the others. Give it a try! They have real French fries made of potatoes that weren't contaminated with MSG, strange crispy coatings or sodium levels that will make you visit your cardiac specialist. The fries are done just right on the outside, while the inside is soft, smooth, and flavorful. My only complaint is that I can't stop eating them once I get started. The Italian sausage is the wonderful Sicilian style Buffalo is used to having. It isn't the bland stuff you find in other cities. Capocollo. Fresh. Spicy. It's the real deal. Try this on your next sub. If you're Italian you'll love it. The rolls are also Buffalo style sub rolls - soft and delicious. I remember Uncle John using our family to test various pizza sauce recipes. He refused to sell any pizza until he had the recipe just right. I got to test a lot of good pizza. I think he got it right. Have some and write a review on Yelp.

The GPS took us to the first location that opened (the waitress said the 1960s) a long time ago. The building is sitting at an angle from the road so go to the right and turn in to park or go past and turn right for the parking lot. Middle of the afternoon on a Thursday they weren't too busy. We were seated immediately and waited on quick. I wanted some clarity with the wing heat. Some places hot is mild or hot is burn your face off. She clarified the medium hot is hot so that's what I decided on for an order of 6. My sister isn't so much of a wing person so she decided on a grilled cheese. The waitress was pleasant and answered all the questions we had. The restaurant itself isn't too big but can seat a lot of people. Total wing vibe. Lots of different flavors and quantities went by...everything looked tasty and fresh. They had Yuengling on tap so that's what I ordered. She had a pepsi. Food arrived fast. The aroma was to die for (ok it burns the eyes a little...). Came with celery and blue cheese. The wings were amazing, some of the best I have ever eaten. Crunchy celery and cool dipping sauce. Bigger than most that I have ordered and very freshly prepared. After 6 I was filled up...but I ordered another brew just to wash it all down. If you're in Buffalo (or the area) it's definitely worth stopping to have a treat. Other Buffalo favorites are on the menu as well (Beef on Weck sandwich. We will definitely be back, more flavors to try and locations to enjoy.

The sandwich was great and really salty (per the custom), but the bread became soggy pretty quick. I would dip it in the jus and try to bite it but the meat just couldn't be bit through and no matter how hard I tried it just made a sloppy mess. That was disappointing. The wings were ordered Medium Hot which they warn you is "Very Hot"... but it isn't. They were good, but next time I will order Hot because there was little to no burn. The fries were the frozen variety but nice, skinny and crispy. I liked dipping them in the leftover wing sauce. Next time, I will skip the sandwich and just get wings and fries. Hopefully it won't take me 5 years to come back.

Getting there just after 1PM on a Monday there was a line inside, to the door to place orders... the wait afterwards was about 10 minutes. I love bologna sandwiches and I also really enjoy a nice beef on Weck, so I was happy they offered a mini beef sandwich, still on kummelweck, which I got along with their bologna sandwich with provolone, onions, and peppers on it. The bologna sandwich was flame grilled and tasted excellent! I added jalapeños to it for a little kick, as well as some mayo and that made the sandwich really tasty! I started with their split pea soup - It was really good! It had big chunks of smokey, flavorful ham in it and the texture was thick and the flavor was great! I also tried a side of their mustard potato salad and it was decent, but I think it had pimentos or pickles in it, which I don't prefer. Last up - That mini beef sandwich - AWESOME! The bun really added the excellent flavor you'd expect from having the meat on that type of roll. The beef was tender and so flavorful! They also have horseradish on the tables, so I added a bunch of it and that really made the flavor pop! Service was excellent and very friendly here. I'd highly recommend stopping in!

I got a side of fries and I found them to be pretty basic which is why I gave 4 stars, just nothing special to the fries I wish they would do something to spice that up a bit. But other than that it was excellent! The vibe inside is also really unique. Pretty open concept and easy to order for take out as well. I didn't try their desserts but they looked delicious and they had a lot of different options! We went on a Saturday evening and I was worried it would be packed but it really wasn't. My Dad and I used to visit Boston Market (particularly this location and the Delaware Avenue…read morelocation) quite often during its last few years in business. We had a sixth sense that the chain wasn't doing so good, which was a shame because their recipes for their food were wonderful. They were one of, if not the only, rotisserie chicken restaurants left in town that really put a nice spin on their food's taste ever since Swiss Chalet left Buffalo years ago. I'm aware that Swiss Chalet is still available in Canada, and that you simply need to cross the Canadian border to eat at Swiss Chalet again. But...let's be honest, after September 2001, no one has ever said that crossing the Canadian border is an easy task. Technology has come far, let me tell ya...you can see most every advancement in technology ever made as you slowly drive up to that interview podium on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge, recording your every move and every word... But enough about the difficulties of crossing into Canada. Boston Market was previously owned by Sun Capital Partners, before selling the business to the Rohan Group. This is important because Dad and I used to have good memories of Boston Market when the company was owned by Sun Capital, and each firm before that, because those companies knew to keep the food recipes consistently tasty throughout their run. Emphasis on "consistent". Just like how McDonald's makes the same Big Mac recipe at each location, Boston Market used to have standard recipes for how to specifically cook and prepare each food item, so that the taste of each batch of food was consistent with the batch prepared before it. Dad and I were devastated to find out that Boston Market shut down most, if not all, of their locations across the country back in 2023 due to financial problems. And we were just as shocked to find out that Boston Market was making a big comeback in 2025, with the Maple Road location being the first to reopen its doors. In fact, the owner plans to open up to 10 locations across the Buffalo area. Wow! Ten locations? What a deal! Ten spots across Buffalo to enjoy some delicious rotisserie chicken, mac and cheese, creamed spinach, and their decadent (albeit inconsistent in pillowy soft-to-rock hard textured) cornbread! And then came that fateful day when we visited Rohan Group's newly reopened Boston Market on Maple Road... ...the horror... To start off, the employees were scrambling all over the place inside. Dad even saw one employee (with gloves on, at least) digging his hands into some chicken and eating it, multiple times. The employee was in full view of the customers that were ordering. It took about five minutes for the employees to even acknowledge us for an order. Not because they were hiding in the back. They fully saw us. They were just fidgeting around with slowly fulfilling other orders while consistently ignoring us. An employee tried three times to reach into the glass case to pick up a hot metal tray of creamed spinach, without any gloves on to protect her from potential burns. The menu and side items looked a little different through the (smaller) glass case, but at first I thought it would be fine, as long as the food tasted the same as it used to when Sun Capital owned it. After ordering, we found out only after paying for my drink that the soda fountain was down, and that we needed to get our drinks via pre-packaged cans and bottles in the freezer up front. This was not only awkward, but now, I was limited to one small bottle of soda with my meal instead of unlimited refills of soda. The food came packaged in this sketchy-looking plastic take-out case, instead of the food being on plates as we were used to, but fine. As long as the food was still the same quality, I'd be fine paying $22 for my 12 oz soda and my take-out case filled with food. Oh, God...I have to talk about the food now... Remember when I said that Sun Capital's Boston Market used to make the chicken taste so good and unique (which was the main reason we came back to eat there)? Well, not any more! The rotisserie chicken, the main star attraction of the place, now tastes like a generic Tops Market rotisserie chicken that you can buy for like $6. And what baffles me even more than the change in taste is that you're still paying as premium of a price for your chicken at Boston Market now as you were back when Sun Capital owned it! Gotta love that post-Covid inflation pricing! Sun Capital's Boston Market was already expensive enough, but at least you knew you were paying for quality. And this isn't quality. The sweet potatoes were liquidy and had waaaay too much sugar and cinnamon in them. Stupid Yelp character limit!!! Parts 2 & 3 of the review can be seen via the attached pictures.

The second you walk in, you immediately smell the real hardwood lump charcoal they've been grilling over since they first started in the late 1920s, and you can actually watch them cook your food to order (which I love). The place oozes a casual backyard BBQ energy, and it feels like an old school Buffalo institution that might no longer be in its heyday, but it clearly still has a hardcore group of local fans. It was confusing as first time diners to figure out how it all works. First, you go in and place your order with the person behind the grill. The nice lady immediately started grilling our meats. Next comes the toppings that can be customized, and then any additional side orders. You pay, get your food, and seat yourself. The dining room is clean but delightfully frozen in time, looking very late-'70s retro in a way that feels exactly right. The seating is old, dingy, and uncomfortable, so this isn't a restaurant where you'd want to sit and linger. Food-wise, this is definitely a spot for beef and sausage lovers. If you're not into that, fair warning: my grilled chicken was pretty mediocre and mostly just tasted like charcoal (which some people might love, but it wasn't doing much for me). The flavor was exactly like what I'd eat when my Uncle would break out the charcoal grill in the backyard during my childhood. The smell and taste brought back pleasant memories, but I guess I'm so used to gas grills or wood grills now that charcoal seems so dated. Meanwhile, my husband's sausage on a bun absolutely stole the show. His was loaded with grilled onions, juicy, smoky, and genuinely drool-worthy. I was a little jealous just looking at it. If you eat sausages, I would recommend ordering that here. There's not a lot for non-red meat eaters, and certainly this isn't the place for vegetarians! Despite my disappointing chicken breast, there were plenty of wins. The buns were especially soft and delicious, and I loved the fresh leaf lettuce and tomato on my sandwich. The produce tasted fresh and bright and wasn't wilted at all, which genuinely surprised me. We split the half-and-half side (which was half fries and half onion rings). The fries were nothing noteworthy, but the onion rings were the real star. Get those crispy, flavorful rings and thank me later! Also, shoutout to the two free pickles on the side, which is a small touch that equalled big happiness. There's also a self-serve soda fountain with free refills of Pepsi products! I'm glad I spotted Ted's and decided to stop in. I couldn't resist the old school exterior, and I can see why this continues to stay in business (despite it not being crowded at all the night we dined there). It might not be the best pick if you're avoiding beef or sausage, but it's still a fun, very Buffalo place to try. Between the smoky grill, the retro atmosphere, and those killer onion rings, it feels like a local rite of passage. I'm glad we did it.
