Artone's Pizza & Subs is near, if not at, the top of my list of favorite pizza shops in Buffalo! As a Buffalonian, I love getting a chicken finger pizza, but as the years march on, the chicken finger pizza has gradually not loved me back. After taking a few-year break, I was craving one and Artone's knocked it out of the park! I called and placed my order on a Saturday, around 4:50pm, with a friendly and efficient gentleman telling me to come by in 20 minutes. I arrived about 30 minutes later, parking on the street in front of Artone's, and was in and out in a matter of two minutes, zero issues. For dinner I ordered a small (12", 6 slice) Chicken Finger Pizza (medium sauce on the fingers), a pizza with a bleu cheese base (not red sauce), dice chicken fingers that are cooked to order and sauced to your preference, then topped with a blend of cheeses. I LOVED this pizza, this hit on every level I could possibly imagine! The dough was cooked perfectly and the crust had a great balance of crunch and chew. The bleu cheese base was creamy and complimented everything on top so well and it was the perfect amount without making the pizza too creamy. The medium sauce diced chicken fingers were hot, tasted fresh, and were BIG! And the blend of cheeses was crazy, this pizza is incredibly cheesy so be prepared. I'm really glad I worked up a big appetite as this pizza was dense - This is a pizza where every slice feels heavy, there is no smaller, less heavy slice with this pizza. When it comes to price, Artone's is reasonably priced, even by 2026 standards. Artone's Pizza & Subs' chicken finger pizza is incredible! Had to come here after seeing all of Clark's reviews. Ordering online was super easy, and I appreciated all the details, like how many slices each pizza had and the option for square-cut or traditional slices (these things matter). We ordered three small pizzas, and they were ready at the promised time... Specialties were a must, so we went with the Dargavel, their version of a meat lovers. Minor letdown: the meatballs were crumbles instead of the sliced ones I saw in photos. I truly appreciated the generous amount of protein on this one. The steak pizza was the unanimous favorite among my friends and me -- it disappeared fast. The classic pepperoni was also a hit, with that perfect cup-and-char that reassures you Buffalo makes the best. So thankful for the Yelp community pointing me in the right direction! read more

Artones is awesome, I have been eating here since I was a kid. I think quite possibly my grandparents might have even still been around. Back then, Then eventually they closed down for a while yearss ago then one day I noticed they were back up and running, it brought back many memories of being at my grandparents home or my aunts home and getting steak hoagies from them when I was young. I'm much older now but it is still just as good and Imo it is one of the best steak hoagies in Buffalo if not the best. The shop always looks clean and up to par and there is some small seating areas out looking Seneca street. Any time I call to order they are nice and happy to take your order as well as when picking up. They also do pizza and wings and other things you might find at a local pizzeria but the steak hoagies is what they are known for and highly recommend you try their steak hoagies or subs. read more

The subs I ordered had so little meat on them that if you combined them you'd still be short. I don't know why I went along with it, I should've returned them. They were pathetic and bland, and they totally got away with it because by the time I got home from picking it up and sat down to eat I was not interested in returning into the cold. Between Science-type students and Art-type students, I prefer to get laid with Art-ones. I expected to like this place a little more than I did. I'm not big into steak sandwiches, but when it's done right I could absolutely love it. For example, the Sinatra at Marco's on Maple. I found this one to be mediocre at best and probably not even that. It's also extremely overpriced, so I end up having to give it three stars. The pizza wasn't very good either and it doesn't help that when I came back in to pick it up, the guy tried to charge me a second time. When I told him I had paid he got paranoid and went into the back to check that I had actually paid. read more

Had some business to attend to in South Buffalo and dropped in to check out this place's slices as they were opening. Slices were hot, right out of the oven but completely tasteless. Very mediocre. Couldn't even make it thru one slice before i pulled a Roberto Duran and cried, "No mas!" i'd rather go 15 rounds with sugar Ray Leonard before i attempt another Artone's "special". We were looking for Italian subs, and on paper at least, Artone's seemed to fit the bill. The place looked as expected, a neighbourhood joint with an interesting menu. After ordering, I had time to look into the busy kitchen. Lots of people, two without any face covering, half of the others with masks below their nose, and this elderly lady, who was preparing our sub, hunched over the prep table, her mask below her chin. I am not eating here. The health department shouldn't let anyone else, either. I gave two stars because they canceled my order and gave me a refund without questions. read more

When Artone's closed its doors several years ago, the elation and cholesterol levels of South Buffalonians sank overnight. The neighborhood felt thrust back into the dark ages of flavorless, unsatisfying food sub shops and corner food marts. I'm very pleased to report that Artone's is open again! It's under new ownership, but from what I gathered it is the same recipe, ingredients and cooking/preparation as the old Artone's. Although I can't really remember exactly how good the steak hoagies used to be at Artone's - It has been years since I or anyone has had one - I can tell you that the only beat the new steak hoagie model skips was of my upper right ventricle in my heart (don't worry, Mercy hospital is a short drive away). Artone's steak hoagies are just the right amount of gooeyness to greasiness ratio of cheese and beef, with an ample amount of perfectly sautéed peppers and onions rolled into a soft sub roll and topped with a special sauce. I just wanted to up date my original review....After going back several times I would like to give this place a solid 9 out of 10 stars......They make my steak hoagie exactly how I ask for it every time......I like the steak diced up fine, and they do it perfect every time......I also ask for a little extra steak oil......If anything they could put a little more cheese, onions, and peppers on it...Not a deal breaker though.....I just order extra cheese.....Been going here almost weekly now....Guess you could say I'm hooked. Ordered over the phone for pickup. When I got there I stood at the counter for 5 mins while 3-4 workers chatted, they looked over but I am not sure they processed I was a customer. The guy who rang me out was nice when he did come over. My order: One super steak sub, cheesesteak style. Just roll, meat, fried onions, cheese and steak sauce. I am about a 10 min drive from home, got back and unwrapped my sub. It was wrapped in paper and inside of that, foil. Needless to say the sub was soaking wet like it had been dipped in water or sat out in the rain, I wrapped each half in a paper towel to get some moisture out, worked surprisingly well. First impressions, kinda small for a "super steak sub" and also not packed with ingredients. The meat was not over cooked but it was dry and unseasoned. Couldn't locate much cheese but the onions were there and were well cooked. The steak sauce left something to be desired. It was there but didn't provide much flavor. All in all this was a 5/10 steak sub and for the price and flavor I would honestly never go back. I have been told they make a great steak sub, similar to a cheesesteak in the Philadelphia area, good roll, flavorful sub, but I did not come away with that impression. I will keep searching for one good local steak sub/cheesesteak joint. This is not it. read more

This place has some great pizza pie. The sauce is sweet, almost tastes like CHEFS sauce. The dough is a little like mister pizza and they get the cheese char on the crust like Picasso's. read more

I've been trying to reach the owner for 3 days now. Every time I call, ask when he'll be in, so I call ... once they ask who's calling, nope not in! All I wanted to know was if we should expect our white pizza to come burnt and brown?? Cheese is burnt and hard. This was how our last 2 pizzas were. And the kind young lady on the phone "tabatha" said they were just too busy to take care of this. I could either bring my pizza back and watch them make a new one or take a credit. Well , there's a credit out there under "Marlene" help your self folks, we've order from Artones long before Joe owned it. In these trying times, I'm sure I'll get good customer service elsewhere. One word! Wow! We ordered a pepperoni pizza and bbq wings here last night and they were the ABSOLUTE best wings I've ever had ( and I've had a lot!)...this place knows how to cook and sauce them properly!...the pepperoni on the pizza is great, nice and spicy!... we also got an order of 3 stuffed peppers which came with a big piece is garlic bread ( I'm happy they use Bread other than the standard Costanzo's roll). Decent peppers, very spicy ( my mouth was on fire)...the stuffing is very bread-y and only seemed to be stuffed in the one end ...I didn't taste much else but bread so I am not sure if I would get those again. South Buffalo is no North Buffalo. Having searched all over Seneca, South Park, Abbott for anything resembling the vibrancy and development of Hertel, Delaware and Elmwood, this is pretty much it. A pretty good pizza and sandwich shop in the desert before you get to West Seneca. read more

Then I called very politely and asked do you put mayo on your hoagies they said no not unless you ask for it and I did not I hate mayo. Called to place an order for pickup, the female who answered the phone was inpatient and kinda rude. I ordered two subs. (Seneca st sub) (steak and turkey) Both extremely greasy, to the point the rolls of the subs split. Between me and my fiance food we only ate half had to throw out the other half. Purchased a pizza the other day and when I took a bite and then looked down at the pizza I saw a piece of cloth with a used flossing pick in my pizza. I took it to the restaurant and the manager told me this wasn't on my pizza. I told him yes it was. He basically was accusing me of making up the accusation. I waited till no customers were in the restaurant so we can handle it indiscreetly because things do happen unexpectedly and not intentionally. Artone's has the best steak hoagies on the planet. I was so excited to hear they reopened. I spoke with the new owner and confirmed that he has Art and Tony's original recipe and when I was there this month, I can confirm it is the real deal. I have been coming to Artone's since the early 80's (mid 70's if you count Tony's place in Blasdell called Antone's). I have lived in Pittsburgh for the last 30 years however I have been bringing friends and colleagues to Artone's every time I come to Buffalo. So glad Artone's is back!!! read more
