"The jersey" steak hoagie with peperoni, LTO cheese and oil and Artones sauce. Fries and chicken fingers
    Justin G.

Artones is awesome, I have been eating here since I was a kid. I think quite possibly my grandparents might have even still been around. Back then, Then eventually they closed down for a while yearss ago then one day I noticed they were back up and running, it brought back many memories of being at my grandparents home or my aunts home and getting steak hoagies from them when I was young. I'm much older now but it is still just as good and Imo it is one of the best steak hoagies in Buffalo if not the best. The shop always looks clean and up to par and there is some small seating areas out looking Seneca street. Any time I call to order they are nice and happy to take your order as well as when picking up. They also do pizza and wings and other things you might find at a local pizzeria but the steak hoagies is what they are known for and highly recommend you try their steak hoagies or subs.

The subs I ordered had so little meat on them that if you combined them you'd still be short. I don't know why I went along with it, I should've returned them. They were pathetic and bland, and they totally got away with it because by the time I got home from picking it up and sat down to eat I was not interested in returning into the cold. Don't be misled by the pictures they show. That is not what they look like. Super disappointed.

Shawn's Pizza Reviews REVIEW # 9 ARTONES PIZZA & SUBS SENECA ST. BUFFALO, NY SCORE 7.4 Located near the corner of Seneca & Mineral Springs in South Buffalo, Artones is the home of the original steak hoagie. But this a pizza review, so let's talk about the pizza. First off, they had plenty of employees working and were all really friendly even during a busy hour as it was an hour before the Bills AFC championship game. The pizza was cooked perfect in my opinion. As for overall taste, I would say above average but the sauce could've had more flavor. I was pretty impressed as this is a place that doesn't get talked about too often due to having a more "popular" Wise Guys down the street. I would definitely recommend Artones if you are in the area!

Of all the degrees people get i prefer the art ones

Between Science-type students and Art-type students, I prefer to get laid with Art-ones. I expected to like this place a little more than I did. I'm not big into steak sandwiches, but when it's done right I could absolutely love it. For example, the Sinatra at Marco's on Maple. I found this one to be mediocre at best and probably not even that. It's also extremely overpriced, so I end up having to give it three stars. The pizza wasn't very good either and it doesn't help that when I came back in to pick it up, the guy tried to charge me a second time. When I told him I had paid he got paranoid and went into the back to check that I had actually paid.

One of my favorite places to get take out, friendly staff, food is good, I ordered a whole sub ham & cheese half cheese of course for me with lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, oil, no onions toasted... nice & crispy .... If your in the area stop by to get a slice, or try there specials.

    No mas!

Had some business to attend to in South Buffalo and dropped in to check out this place's slices as they were opening. Slices were hot, right out of the oven but completely tasteless. Very mediocre. Couldn't even make it thru one slice before i pulled a Roberto Duran and cried, "No mas!" i'd rather go 15 rounds with sugar Ray Leonard before i attempt another Artone's "special". There are innumerable pizzerias like this one in Buffalo that claim they coulda been a contender but instead deserve a one-way ticket to Palukaville. Next please...

This place has been here since I was a boy and I'm 40 now they shut down for a while which devastated the community of South Buffalo but opened up better than ever and going stronger than ever I used to weigh 585 lb now I'm down to a slender chubby 310 lb I still like to eat bad food but I try to keep it healthy as much as I can I come here for the chicken hoagie cut up chicken breast green peppers onions provolone cheese simple yet delicious yet not totally artery-clogging this place is great friendly service prompt service very affordable as well worth the drive if you want a good chicken or steak hoagie

Five stars hands down!! Steak hoagies are the best in buffalo. I used to live next door and got them many many times. I'm not a huge fan of the pizza but the chicken wings and hoagies make up for that.

When Artone's closed its doors several years ago, the elation and cholesterol levels of South Buffalonians sank overnight. The neighborhood felt thrust back into the dark ages of flavorless, unsatisfying food sub shops and corner food marts. I'm very pleased to report that Artone's is open again! It's under new ownership, but from what I gathered it is the same recipe, ingredients and cooking/preparation as the old Artone's. Although I can't really remember exactly how good the steak hoagies used to be at Artone's - It has been years since I or anyone has had one - I can tell you that the only beat the new steak hoagie model skips was of my upper right ventricle in my heart (don't worry, Mercy hospital is a short drive away). Artone's steak hoagies are just the right amount of gooeyness to greasiness ratio of cheese and beef, with an ample amount of perfectly sautéed peppers and onions rolled into a soft sub roll and topped with a special sauce. You can't say you've ran the gauntlet of Buffalonian food until you've had one, so go get to it.

I saw beautiful croissants, stuffed croissants and all sorts of sweet treats and breads. So I decided to make my way there today coming from Lockport to give support and try. I walked into a bakery with a mostly EMPTY case and the few items there seemed to have been there for a while. The few things on presentation were a bit overcooked or burned. Apparently the bakery closes at 3 and we arrived at noon. While I'm not surprised the options would be limited. I wouldn't think there would be NOTHING AT ALL. I inquired if there was anything in the back and was told no. So instead of it being a wasted trip I opted to try a sandwich. Unfortunately the picture of the sandwich and what I received were not the same. My sandwich was FULL of Arugula. It overpowered the sandwich. There was very little roast beef and the bread was so hard I couldn't even bite it. I ended up taking the insides out and eating it that way. I did notice there was a rack with sourdough in the store and it was much darker than I am used to seeing. Apparently that's what we got. The price ($20.00) seriously doesn't match the product. I'm deeply disappointed if this is a new business. Consider your price point Consider batch baking so that you can refresh your shelves If darker bread is a preference for the baker, that doesn't mean it's a preference of the consumer. Sourdough bread is usually harder anyway, but overlooking it makes it worse. Otherwise the restaurant was clean. If you walk in know what you want because the counter or the line kinda meets you at the door. We experienced standing and waiting a while before being greeted.

First off, I was greeted and found staff friendly and efficient! You have plenty of options for seating .. dining area, front bar, back bar, even an outdoor patio bar. Although it is dive bar-esque, it was nice and clean (let's be honest .. some dives have a stench and stickiness that can definitely ruin your appetite, no matter how much you may love them). They have a set up for bands to play, as one was playing while I was there for their 2 year anniversary (congrats!). What was nice is although I could hear the band (it was playing in the back and I was up front), it wasn't over whelming me. I have eaten places where, no matter where you sit, it's extremely loud, and I appreciated that you had a choice here. Now onto the food: The food should have been doomed to fail; my tastebuds were prepared to eat sweet, buttery, syrupy French toast with a mocktail at brunch elsewhere. But wasn't hyped about the menu because of this (which is not dog and pony's fault .. I had to work and didn't have time to research where else brunch was available). I settled on the umami smashburger by a suggestion of my waitress. Now once again, could have been doomed to fail as I'm not a French fry person and my favorite cheeseburger is one I make on my own. BUT WOW their food blew me away and made me forget all about my brunch let-down. The French fries were fantastic and had a great seasoning on them! The smashburger was great to the last bite .. and I was NOT expecting to finish it as it was a really nice portion (I ate lunch now 10 hours ago and didn't need to eat again it was so filling!) but it was so dang gone good I sure finished it! Smoked cheddar .. chimichuri aioli ... kimchi bacon jam .. oh ya that bacon jam was EVERYTHING!! Thank you to the staff at Dog and Pony for making my long drive worth while!

I ordered the smash burger, my husband ordered the turkey sandwich. After we were waiting for our food for over 25 minutes, the server came over and said that he was just informed they don't have the turkey because they had an issue with that freezer. Ok, so my husband ordered the cheese steak because he was super excited for the bahn mi roll. My smash burger was alright, but the bread they use for their burgers remind me of those cheap buns you get from TOPS that just fall apart. The worst part was that they forgot the dog sauce on my burger, so I asked for the sauce, and THEY CHARGED ME FOR ASKING FOR SAUCE THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO ALREADY BE ON THE BURGER I ORDERED. My husband made sure to tell me after we already left because he knew I would have fought it and our already 1.5 hour long lunch date would have been longer waiting for the refund... He ordered the cheesesteak and the sandwich was so small, and the "bahn mi bun" wasn't even toasted which is a signature for bahn mi bread. He said the flavor was fine but nothing to rave about. The worst part, for me, were the French fries that came with both of our meals. They were soooo heavily peppered that they were inedible. We asked for ketchup to try to make them tolerable, and they gave us a pre-portioned small cup of ketchup... You serve french fries with most of your menu, why isn't there ketchup on the table?!? Overall, It was a nice place to have on senrca street which used to only have the blackthorn and franchescas, but I would not eat here again.
