After a 24hr. fast for a blood draw around the corner the wife and I were lured in by a sandwich board outside the the door "Lunch Buffet " yah, you seen those. 11:30 am, stuff is still fresh and hot...you'd think, right. Lukewarm at best, the shumai were cold. I'm thinkin' for 10 bucks, 2 more if you leave food on your plate that my food would be somewhat hot...nah. I'm not buying the Thai food thing, more like Chinese /Asian with some curry thrown in. So, in a nut shell I'm eating, bland lukewarm asian food. Last words...pass. read more

I've always wanted to visit this place since the heavier COVID restrictions- and I'm delighted by the kind and humble service I was received with. The food is great, and I'd definitely visit again! I'd recommend the Iced Thai Tea, it's nice and sweet, if that's to your liking. :) read more

Portion sizes are extremely small for what you get and food is very bland tasing. I would rather go to ZabZab Thai in a heart beat.

Passing through town and found this place Vita Yelp. It did not disappoint. Good food, reasonable prices, fast friendly service, and quite a wide menu selection. Atmosphere cozy. We got one of the soups and coconut curry shrimp/salmon chef special. read more

This is the best Thai food restaurant in the area (Monterey, Seaside, Marina and Salinas) overall is the best. and I say this because I know the owners very well and the person in charge of the kitchen is 100% Thai. and she makes a 100% authentic THAI. I recommend them guys trust me. read more

I go to a lot of Thai restaurants and this one has became my top 3. I got the panang curry (red curry) medium 10/10 my go to because I like a good amount of spice. My girlfriend got the kai curry (yellow curry) mild she loved it. Definitely coming back next time! read more

Amazing! Best drunken noodles and shrimp fried rice! The spot is adorable as well. We ordered for pick up, which was ready within 15 minutes of ordering it. I'm actually looking forward to eating inside the restaurant because it has this very relaxing and romantic atmosphere. I think it would be a pretty cute date night spot. If you like Thai food, you will not be disappointed here. read more

I am so happy we discovered this restaurant on our last trip to Monterey. My only disappointment is that we didn't find it earlier! We stopped by for lunch, and everyone in my party was beyond happy with their choices. I had the Drunken Noodles, medium hot, and they had just the right level of lip numbing spiciness. Sam, the owner, could not be more friendly and welcoming. To me, a great restaurant makes me feel comfortable and has several items on the menu I want to try. This place checks those boxes and more. Honestly the best Thai restaurant in the area!! The service was great, the food was fantastic, and if you have any preferences, i.e. the spiciness, then they will make it exactly as you want it!! The owners remember who you are, the food you order, so that the next time you come they will make sure you are satisfied. Definitely my go-to Thai restaurant, and will continue being mine as long as I'm here in Monterey. read more

LVE the fabulous fresh food and friendly service + owner. The eggplant w/ pork, pad see yew w/scallops, pineapple curry w/ chicken, & brown rice was perfect! Nacina Riesling and Thai Iced Tea were complementary enhancements to our culinary experience. Their inhouse coconut ice cream was delicious and not too sweet! My husband and I were spending a rainy weekend this January in Monterey and decided upon having Thai food for dinner. We ate at Siamese Bay and were not disappointed. I do not recall the name of our server, but he was he was so attentive and polite. We started our meal off with a spring roll appetizer. The vegetables inside were fresh as were the accompanying peanut and dipping sauces. We ordered two main courses without tofu (Accomodating our order meant to me that the entrees were not pre-made). Both the chicken pad thai and mixed vegetables were delicious! I ordered hot sweetened ginger tea to accompany my meal. Out of this world, as my mom would say. FInally, the owner came by to check on us, and we were impressed by this, too. read more

I have been going to Siamese Bay for many years. Unfortunately the last two times I've been there have been bad experiences. I ordered takeout a month ago from their menu online. The prices were very good online. When I went there the prices the owner charged me were at least 30% more. I told the owner and showed him his online prices and he said "no no that's the old menu." I let it go although I felt like he should have updated his online menu. I figured I had eaten there in the past and it had been good, and it could have been an honest mistake. But just today my daughter and I went in for lunch, and his attitude was very bad. We ordered drunken noodles. I ordered mine medium spicy. When I got it, it was super, super spicy and I could not eat it. My nose began running and I choked. I am used to spicy foods, but this was inedible for me. When I told the owner that it was too spicy, he just said that it was medium. I told him that it was much spicier than medium. Rather than try to fix it or even apologize, He said he could get me some rice to mix into it. Really? Who wants rice mixed into their noodles? He was rude. I will not be going back again. Ever. I hope other people read this and realize that if you go there, be prepared not to be treated well. read more

We got the spring rolls, tom yum soup, and beef mussaman curry and everything tasted homemade with the perfect spice level and rich flavors. Craving for Thai, decided to have lunch buffet based on a few other reviews, probably should've ordered a la carte. Very few items, and even less food in each section. I came in at 1pm. Food had been sitting there a while. Pad Thai was dry, three entrees of fried food (fried fish squares -sort of like flat fish sticks with cabbage with a soy/fish sauce, fried chicken pieces in a sweet/sour sauce, and tempura veggies), broccoli with tofu, chicken curry (sauce was curdled), and fried rice. There was green salad, two soups, and dumplings that were very cold. Ordered tea, never got a refill. Someone took plate, maybe owner? But no one spoke to me the entire time except to say, "just by yourself?" And "just a minute" when I paid my bill. They did say "thank you" when I left. I remember coming here years ago, and the food was decent. Probably won't ever be back. Too bad. read more

The fresh spring roll was ok, it had fresh mint in it though no cilantro and no basil. The dip sauces were just ok. The green curry entree was awful, lacking both the green and the curry. Tasted like dish water with some milk mixed in. The veggies were severely over cooked and some tasted spoiled so I tossed the whole thing. Maybe they feed their regulars better than a newbie. Really nice spot to eat near the center of downtown Monterey. Sam was really nice and recommended us good choices on the menu. The food was really good and doesn't taste as greasy as other places. You can actually taste the seasonings without having a ton of a grease/fatty flavor. I would recommend this place to people who are looking to eat out but don't want to get food that is unhealthy. If you're looking for more traditional greasy Asian food this may not be the spot for you. But you should give it a try, definitely recommend! read more

Have not been to Siamese Bay for many years. But, we've been coming here for almost 30 years. It was disappointing. The fresh spring rolls were good, if small, the tofu Green bean was oily, bland, and overpriced for such a small portion. We know every restaurant can have a bad night. Hubby and i have been living in monterey area for so many years and this is our first time to come to this restaurant. We're both amazed not only the good service this restaurant provide for its guests. The waiters were very attentive and the owner is very welcoming. We had dinner here and had the siamese spicy fish and chee-cho duck it was SOOOO DELICIOUS!!!! the best thai restaurant we have been so far!we ended dinner with their homemade coconut ice cream which is also so very yummy! Great lunch buffet. Some of the food sitting there of course gets a little old and slightly cold. But they bring out fresh dishes regularly. Those are delicious and flavorful. They even had a little bit of soup and sushi. Try it out. I will need to go there for dinner for a real taste of this place. read more

I have eaten Thai food in Thailand and in every Thai restaurant in the Monterey, Moss Landing, and Santa Cruz area and this is my favorite by far. Excellent selection including duck prepared 3 different ways while many do not even serve duck at all. Food that is marked spicy is still very palatable for the average person so it is safe to take people from out of town that might have trouble with very spicy food. Service is excellent and very friendly every time I go there though it is always for dinner with friends. Quiet dining environment which is also nice so easy to converse with people while eating. Going with 4 or more people we get a broad selection of dishes and they have always been excellent which is rare at any restaurant. Street parking is not metered and no limit after 6PM which makes it easy to enjoy a leisurely meal without having to dash out and feed the parking meters the way I often have to do in Monterey. I think from reading the other reviews that people are confusing this restaurant with others in the area. For instance the one person complains about being moved even though there are more than 20 tables and this person definitely was at another restaurant as there are half that number of tables at this restaurant. Cost wise this is the least expensive Thai restaurant in the Monterey area. Only the Thai food restaurant in Moss Landing costs less on average and not by a lot. read more

T'was a classic rainy day. Craving Thai food. Remembered this place that was surreal from 3 years ago and decided to seek it out again. Upon entry it was perfect. red walls. clint eastwood greeted us at the door. AND! There was 10.95 buffet. perfect for our hungry hungry souls. So, we got one buffet (which turned to two, but more on that soon), and a classic tom kha kai soup. Checking out the buffet there were: noodles, rice, watermelon, leafy greens, fried chicken, tempura veggies, and soups. Plural. Wow! What a DEAL! and that is not even all of it! There was sushi! Which was perfect because we had been craving sushi, but decided Thai was the best choice. And it was! Our experience at this restaurant just kept getting better! Since the buffet was closing soon, the staff showered us in free Thai food. A whole extra order of the buffet, for free! And they even brought the buffet to our table. We were treated like Kings! I love this restaurant, especially for lunch. You can not find better Thai food in Monterey County, especially for the price. I am particularly fond of their Thai fried rice with Red Chicken Curry on top, their Spicy Thai Chicken and their Coconut Soup. Furthermore, what is nice about their buffet is that while there are some regularly recurring options, typically 2-4 of the dishes rotate on the line, so if you go regularly, you con't have to settle for the same thing every time, and none of it is ever bad. As well, they have extremely attentive service. I have never not been immediately helped, my water is kept full and my dishes attentively cleared. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, adding to the already rich atmosphere of the restaurant itself. I move around a lot and tend to pocket a few places I love and go to again and again in the short time I am there. Siamese Bay is one of these places and I hope I can find as welcoming and wonderful of a Thai restaurant where ever I move to next. read more

Great restaurant! The first time I went there was to the lunch buffet with a group of friends from work. BTW, -It is a great place to take a friend from work on your lunch break as the atmosphere is quiet, friendly, with just that perfect formal/ informal feeling and a beautiful Thai backdrop. I went back again on Friday night, -but this time with my wife. I enjoyed the spicy fish and my wife enjoyed the pineapple chicken. We both enjoyed the spring roles (both veggie and Thai). One of the things that I really like from Asian restaurants, is the rice! My wife and I are fried rice people, and Siamese Bay did not disappoint. It was fresh and delicious. Though I live in San Jose and work in Seaside, it's definitely one of the local places that I will try to visit every time I am in Monterey. For an All-U-Can-Eat Lunch Buffet, there's not a better-tasting array of Thai food for the money--just try eating all of it! If you're truly hungry for Thai food, this is the place and lunch is the time. BTW, I couldn't get enough of the eggplant dish... Siamese Bay Restaurant is absolutely the best and at the same time the healthiest choice you could make for lunch. This is hands-down one of my absolute favorite places to eat in Monterey (I have exactly two). Ever since I discovered it last year, I eat here every chance I get, take all my family and friends (who unanimously love it) there, and recommend it to everyone who asks for a great place to eat. I have two or three entrees I like to order when I go, but I've tried others and every single one has been fabulous. The spicy beef salad, chicken pad Thai, the Bangkok Duck is phenomenal two are usually a must! Family style eating in a great environment! Love the curry (all types), the thai fried rice (make it spicy!), angel wings with a heavenly cucumber peanut plum sauce (I can pour it on almost anything). I can honestly say I have never ordered anything I didnt like. If you manage to save room for dessert, the homemade coconut ice cream with fried banana is bomb! Horrible service. I ordered soup and it tasted rotten so I told my server and she got the owner who said you ordered it,what do you want me to do about. So he gave me the soup I didn't like to go and I had to pay for it. Not happy. We, Chinese tourists, apparently purchased the special invisible customer package. We asked for a menu and received no response. We tried to order additional dishes and were ignored again. It was impressive how quickly the owner could notice white customers while suddenly losing both hearing and eyesight whenever Chinese customers spoke. When we continued asking for basic service, the owner became aggressive and threatened in Chinese to slap a Chinese customer in the face. Then, in a remarkable display of hospitality, the owner blamed and accused the customer. Apparently, asking for a menu and trying to spend more money at the restaurant are now serious acts of misconduct. This was not merely slow or careless service. The owner treated Chinese customers differently, deliberately ignored us, bullied us, and then used a threat of physical violence to intimidate us. The owner seemed comfortable targeting Chinese tourists, perhaps assuming that visitors would remain silent because they were unfamiliar with the area. Calling this restaurant "China Garden" is the best joke of the entire experience. Chinese food, Chinese name, and open hostility toward Chinese customers. Perhaps "White Customers Garden" or "No Service for Chinese Tourists" would be a more honest name. Congratulations to the owner for creating a dining experience where discrimination and threats arrive faster than the food. If you are white, you may receive normal service. If you are Chinese, based on our experience, expect to be ignored, bullied, blamed, and threatened for having the audacity to ask for a menu.
