Really really bad service!! I manage a business and if I treated my customers the way I was treated I wouldn't expect repeat business!! Very very rude young man is their waiter. I had to get up to ask for anything I needed no utensils no water no drinks literally no service for at least 30 mins!! When I got up to ask for a glass of water the waiter got very angry and basically yelled at me to wait for him! That was just service! When we finally got our food after waiting and I timed it 50 mins the food was either under cooked or over cooked and tasted as if it was warmed up from the day before!! I got very badly sick!!! I really don't understand how this restaurant has 4 stars. I've been here twice and both times the food was not good. Maybe their dinner game is stronger, but their lunch buffet is terrible. Everything cold, overcooked, and flavorless or odd tasting. Everything is fried, nothing looked very appetizing. They charge you an extra $2 if you don't eat all the food you took, even though it's an "all you can eat" buffet. Not worth it. Head a block down to the Indian place for their lunch buffet instead. read more

I lived in Thailand for 3 years and fell in love with the food. I learned that spicey is a flavor to be savored. If you do not like it Thai Hot Mt. Sam will tone it down for you. I like it HOT; however, the medium was just fine. After 20 years of looking for an authentic Thai restaurant in the USA, I found one in Monterey, CA. For the best Thai food, this side of Thailand (Siamese Bay Restaurant) is maybe the best in the USA. The Question my wife always asks me after we have had dinner out is (Will you go back?) I wanted to love this place. It smelled great. We had 3 orders of pad Thai with scallops, and tofu. They messed up one of the orders, but it was not a big deal. The real issue was the flavor. The scallops had zero seasoning and were just placed on the side of the pad Thai. There was no sauce and the noodles were super dry and stuck together. The Pad Thai was just as pictured on Yelp Page. Fresh, flavorful and not one of those heavily sauced, overly salty (or sweet) Pad Thai dishes! This was perfect...and large amount of bean sprouts without skimping on any of the noodles or chicken. The chicken was moist and and tender. My first time here and I'll definitely be back! Holy moly!!! I've never ever posted a yelp review and this place made me do it. Absolutely insane how good the food is. I eat a lot of Thai food and have great Thai friends who have shown me the way. The beef in the massaman curry is so tender that it falls apart on touch. I've never had curry sauce so rich and flavorful. I ordered the drunken noodles and red curry with chicken to go. The drunken noodles were delicious with various ingredients and the appropriate requested spice level but the noodles were overcooked. The red curry had good flavor but it had a copious amount of sliced pickled bamboo shoots, thai basil leaves, and chicken. I was disappointed in the lack of variety in ingredients. And one chicken piece was undercooked. They prepared my order in nearly exactly 10 minutes but I would have been happy to wait longer if it meant the chicken would be cooked all the way or there would have been other vegetables in my curry. The two orders came out to around $37 total which is a bit expensive but on par with the other Asian restaurants in the area. I don't think I will be back. I rarely leave reviews but the nearly raw chicken was disappointing. If you choose to come here, avoid the red curry but the drunken noodles is okay. read more

Let me first say that i enjoy this place. I eat here once a week. It is small restaurant housing about 30 people at once. Decor is pleasing and at times i catch my selfie starring at the decor or plaques of accomplishment. The food is tasty. I come for the lunch buffet price is about 12 dollars. It has a good selection to choice from. The staff is friendly and seems to know their clients (regulars). I recommend the fried rice and the spicy chicken. Pad Thai- good Battered spicy chicken-very good Pineapple chicken- dry Morsel of ginger fish-good Sushi (random)- tasty Dumpling-ok Eggplant-not my favorite Tofu Soup-bland Fried rice-good Watermelon-luckily it was good I arrived at the end, so it sort of felt like I was eating leftover food. I am quickly learning that Thai food is the way to go in busy touristy areas. We were in Monterey in the later evening a couple of days ago, and understandably so - most of the restaurants were full. We spied Siamese Bay from the car, we scanned the reviews quickly, and we went inside. There was only one other couple in the place, but the place was warm, well lit, and a gracious gentleman was quick to get us seated and grab us some water. It must be the vampire in me, but I've learned recently that my stomach can't tolerate garlic. I scanned the menu carefully - trying to figure out which dishes - may not contain it. My eyes kept on landing on the basil eggplant with fish. Our kind waiter - who I suspect might also be the owner - agreed to make the dish without garlic. The dish was fantastic. There was an abundance of hearty chunks of eggplant throughout the dish and the fish was fresh as well. I adored the sauce which came with my meal. Our waiter was available throughout the evening if we needed anything and being that the restaurant had such few patrons - it was easy to talk and hear each other. Siamese Bay isn't the best Thai food that I've had as of late- but everything we had was delicious and our server was extremely accommodating and attentive. I recommend checking Siamese Bay out - if you're in Monterey and looking to avoid the chaos of more popular food eateries in the area. Trust read more

The good, the bad, and the ugly... Good: Customer wait time is ludicrously short. As if they predicted what I wanted or already had it made... Experienced several of the chicken based curries here and they are decent. Bad: I perceived canned items in the menu, namely pineapple chunks. Ugly: The pineapple curry put my partner out for the count and in the messiest way possible. To be fair, I think she might be coming down with something, but the food took her to the other side of the fence and in a hurry. It'll be a tough sell to ever return here. We came here on a Friday night and it was quiet at first, but by the time we left, the place was nearly full. The people there were mostly locals with a handful of tourists who were good boys and girls and did their homework. It's a little bit off the beaten path. They're still in business for a reason so look for it and you'll be rewarded with some fantastic Thai food for a budget friendly price. The extra bonus is that they can do gluten free items! My wife has a gluten sensitivity and most kinds of Asian cuisines are no longer options for us because so few of them have any idea what gluten is and even the ones that do understand can't offer much because their sauces are all prepared ahead of time. While, I can't say Siamese Bay is celiac safe and the menu isn't labeled to identify gluten free items, the owner did indeed understand what we needed when we asked about gluten free options and was able to guide us through safe items or items that could be modified so that soy sauce wouldn't be used. We ordered the Chicken Salad, Penang Curry, and Green Beans with Chili Sauce. It was all fabulous. I especially liked the Penang Curry. It was just the right balance of sweet, spicy, and salty so all the flavors complemented each other. This was some of the best Thai food we've had in a while and definitely the best Penang Curry we've had in many years. We'll be back! read more
