My favorites are their sate, pad thai, and curried chicken...the pineapple rice was yummy too. When they saw the kids were getting antsy, they came right over and asked if we wanted anything else or the bill and boxes....I liked that "awareness". Here are some thoughts on Siamese Bay Restaurant. I found a parking space right on Webster Street. Walked in the first time to try some chicken yellow curry to go. Sam the owner is a sweet man. He is courteous, friendly, and warm. He made me want to come back before I even tried the food! I wanted to give him a hug goodbye. The chicken yellow curry: MAGNIFICENT. The BEST I have ever had. Succulent, moist, savory chicken breast meat. Rich, perfectly seasoned hot/sweet, very tasty curry sauce. Fresh and perfectly cooked vegetables. Definitely my favorite place around now. This restaurant serves better food than FIVE Thai places in Santa Cruz and is hands down the BEST in Monterey County for chicken yellow curry. read more

We eat thai pretty often. First time here...Our server asked for the spice level for both our dishes (pineapple curry and Pad Thai) we said medium they came out with zero spice. Excellent food! I ordered the chicken, potato, carrot, curry. My husband ordered the Pad Thai. Both were very good. We also ordered the Siamese dumplings. The taste of these lacked a balanced flavor & had a strong single ingredient flavor,(maybe crab?). Anyway, not as yummy as the rest of the meal. Great tasting Thai food. I recently moved to the area and found this gem of a restaurant. My family is vegetarian so it is sometimes hard to find a good restaurant that also has great vegetarian entrees. Siamese Bay however delivers fresh and delicious food consistently. My favorite Thai restaurant! My family has been coming to this restaurant since I was a kid, and I've never had better Thai. The panang is so good and not too soupy, with the vegetables and chicken cooked perfectly. The fresh rolls are really a favorite, too. Since sheltering in place began, our family has been getting takeout from Siamese Bay where we've enjoyed delicious meals inside the restaurant for decades. The same great Thai flavors are are there in every dish. Entrees are hot and salads are cold, all prepared just before we arrive for pick-up, about 20-30 minutes after ordering by phone. The food is put in recyclable containers and neatly nestled inside a large cardboard box. Our favorite dishes are Panang chicken, Bankok duck, Thai chicken salad, spicy shrimp salad, garlic broccoli, and pad woon sen noodles with vegetables. The rice is always fabulous. We're able to order gluten free and vegan when family members with those restrictions are present. Sam, the owner, is gracious and welcoming. read more

BEWARE OF REFILL CHARGES AND FULL PRICE FOR CHILDREN The food is average, the atmosphere is okay, but the unfriendly owners make the restaurant an uncomfortable place to dine. I would never choose to go back to this restaurant. To make the experience even worse, we were charged the full soda price for each refill and my 3-yr old was charged full price. I don't have a problem paying for refills or full price for a 3-yr old, but when a restaurant's policy deviates from the norm, I think customers should be told upfront rather than when they get the bill. Had we known we were going to be charged for refills, we would have thought twice when they came by and offered to refill our sodas. How many restaurants charge for refills anyways? I can't think of any. read more

Its not the best, its not even great, its OK. I typically just go for the lunch all-you-can-eat buffet, because I don't have much confidence and like the (limited) variety. Id say that I go once every few months. Irregularly regular. Buffet: your typical steamed rice, coconut milk soup/hot sour soup, a little salad area, some kind of fried fish dishes, mixed veggies, green curry. The curry doesn't have much flavor, the sushi isnt great. I might be tempted to try a regular dish and see how it goes. I like iced tea. They serve it in a glass jar, and a cup of ice. I really like a lot of ice, so this setup, while ensuring plenty of the tea part, jeopardizes my ice. The location is great - the outskirts of old downtown Monterey. I love walking around there, and when you see the facade of the restaurant building, its very Thai-ish. Then you step inside and are surrounded with carved wood, and beautiful tapestries. Its carpeted, and clean. The service - is just ok with a lowercase 'o'. I wouldn't recommend this place to others if you are trying to impress them... read more
