"There's something magical about rooftops. You feel like you're in 'Mary Poppins."…read moreGeorge Clarke There really is something special about being on a rooftop on a perfect summer evening, and it's great to have it right in downtown Sugar Hill. I would like to say I planned the perfect date, but as some of the best things in life, this was just an impromptu visit to cap off an already great evening. Outside of being on the rooftop, the bar itself is upscale yet approachable, service was fast and friendly. Being a bit of a self engrandized home bartender I'm a bit critical when out of my home lab, but their Smoked Old Fashioned wasn't bad. ("Wasn't bad" really means very good.") While I don't love the prices and hate paying a cover charge, when you throw in live music, a great vibe, and a view, I can't really complain. The owner made an announcement that whoever tipped the band $10 would get a free drink, and since most drinks were over $15 I thought that was cool on many levels. Will definitely be back to The Rooftop!

We walked around and finally ran into a waitress who told us to sit anywhere we wished inside or outside. The only area festive was inside a closed igloo and no heaters were on outdoors which was just a tad too cool for me despite the super nice weather that day. It would have been so to sit outside but without the warmth of the heaters we headed inside. We placed our order and explained we were just there for a pre-dinner drink and wanted to check out the venue so we didn't leave our tab open but we were quickly served the fabulous taking drinks on their menu(s). The Old Fashioned was on the regular menu and the Russian was on their seasonal tabletop menu. Server was very nice and took photos for some ladies we met. The only reason I can't give them a 5 star is they claim they are big on hospitality but yet we were not acknowledged upon arrival. Many restaurants and even some retail stores have a way to ensure they say hello/welcome immediately when you enter and without a hostess - the mindset should be that the bar or wait staff have a way to immediately say hello or welcome so those who have never been feel welcomed as well as those who frequently come. It would be nice to have a more festive decor for the holidays but that didn't affect my review; just a statement to say that the entire Sugar Hill area was pumping and themed with the holiday spirit then we walked in the only area decorated was not even accessible nor was it offered as an option to enjoy.

I joined a friend for dinner and I chose the bang-bang shrimp for an appetizer and the garlic Parmesan wings with onion rings for my entree. The onion rings are a $3 up charge. If you order the Rasta Pasta and get salmon it's a $9 up charge. Our server delivered great customer service throughout our dining experience but I didn't like that they automatically charge you 18% gratuity without properly communicating it. Then, I paid an extra tip without realizing the gratuity was already included. This was my 1st time dining here and I didn't know that, neither is it posted anywhere and our waitress didn't mention it either. I realized it when I asked for a printed receipt. It was only two people in my party so I didn't understand why the 18% gratuity was automatically charged. I didn't appreciate the deception. TIP: Please be aware of exactly what you're paying for and ask for a printed receipt before you pay your bill. The ambiance was very loud because they had a live DJ It was the bang-bang shrimp for me.

Upon entering the restaurant, the ambiance was very nice, and it gave a "grown and sexy" vibe. First off let me say that our waitress, (I won't say her name) wasn't attentive AT ALL. The only thing she did was take our order. She never checked on us, she wasn't the one who brought our food....nothing. I even put my empty glass on the corner so she would see it and just automatically re-fill it...nope. I had to get her attention and ask for a refill! Very disappointed about that. Now, on to the food. I had the lambchops, w/ veggies and a side of corn. The lambchops were delicious, but small. Whatever the veggies were, were very tasteful and seasoned to perfection! I also like the taste of the corn. My husband had a steak. He got it well done, but it came out w/ too much pink for his liking, so he sent it back to be cooked more. It came back out, just right and was seasoned well. There is also a D.J. that played the best music. It wasn't too loud either, which was a PLUS!! I will mos. def be returning in the near future. Try it for yourself!

Lexie, our waitress, was so patient and attentive to our requests. I didn't get the bartenders name, but she concocted my drink request perfectly! Down to the excellent service and drinks, we demanded to meet the Chef, Junior, to personally thank him for the amazing food....such a kind, humble young man!! Considering I already think NYC has thee best food options, I went in open and hopeful to be proven wrong. I arrived excited and ready to vibe, but that excitement quickly faded. The aesthetic, or lack thereof, was disappointing. I expected something vibrant, colorful, or even a chic modern look. Instead, the space felt neglected and unkept. I was also surprised by the absence of music, which immediately threw off the atmosphere, though I tried to keep in mind that this isn't NYC. Once seated, I noticed how mash-up the chairs were. Mine literally had exposed nails. Still, in anticipation of mimosas and Jamaican food for brunch, I shifted slightly to the side and focused on enjoying my best friend's company. Our server was just alright. Very much giving "here for the paycheck," not necessarily service-driven. Unfortunately, that's become common these days, so I adjusted my expectations, and tipped accordingly. The menu itself had promise. I appreciated the Southern fusion options with a Jamaican twist, and the hookah menu was surprisingly comprehensive, though we chose not to order one. We opted for the unlimited mimosas, and to be fair, we definitely got our money's worth. That said, I was disappointed to learn they were pre-mixed. I prefer fresh orange juice with popped brut or sparkling, and once I saw how the drinks were prepared, it made sense for a busy brunch crowd- just not my preference. For food, we ordered the oxtail egg rolls to start, along with the Spice Breakfast and chicken and waffles. Everything was... fine. No real complaints, but no standout moments either. Overall, the brunch was okay. I might give them another try for dinner, but this visit didn't quite live up to the expectations.

I was given a start date, only to later find out that the establishment was actually closed that day. No one from management informed me. I had to go out of my way to contact another owner whose number I found on Instagram just to be told the place was closed. Situations like this show a serious lack of organization and respect for people's time. If management cannot properly communicate something as basic as whether the business is open, it raises concerns about how the establishment is run overall. I also noticed that most of the reviews here appear to be from several years ago, which makes me question whether the current experience reflects what customers can expect today. Based on my experience, I would encourage others to do their research before choosing to support this business.
