Me and 2 other friends came at around noon on a Sunday. There was a short wait but honestly the line is super worth it. The servers are super kind and offer great food recommendations as well. The English muffin and beignets were standouts! I would definitely come back for just those two again. The tuna melt was also amazing, perfectly filling. There's plenty of adorable outdoor seating in the back as well.
Food tasted alright, nothing memorable- we tried cappuccino, tofu scramble, French toast, English muffin and bahn mi. Tofu scramble was healthy with oatmeal as the carb and they tried to give it all flavor and texture but it was still bland. Service was friendly but inattentive, we kept on getting food and no utensils. Bahn mi was too saucy and made the sandwich soggy. Coffee and English muffin were good and may be worth going back for a different order.
I think this is a perfect spot for a casual weekend brunch! Warning, they don't have a parking lot and it looks like a normal house so you might have trouble finding it. But once you find it, it's so cute! It's such a cute, inviting, eclectic spot. There's indoor, outdoor, back patio type seating. The mismatched furniture and vintage decorations give it such a fun charming vibe. You order at the counter then find a seat. Silverware, water, and condiments are self serve. I got the hanger steak sandwich and it's one of the best I've ever had! Perfect medium rare and it was still juicy. The arugula gives it a nice touch. They give you a choice of dip for the fries and I got blue cheese which was really yummy. It had a brightness to it which I liked. The pours for the rosé were heavy which I loved! I would skip the drip coffee, it was a bit weak. It seems like such a family friendly restaurant. They had coloring books by the counter, a play area, and even tiny toilets in the bathrooms. We came at 1100 on a Saturday and we ordered and sat done right away but by noon there was a long, long line so be mindful there might be a wait!
If you like beets, then the Beet salad is your choice. Well dressed light fare. Really good on warmer days or if looking for something that won't weigh you down Pro tip: don't skip the desserts. Banana cream pudding and pot de crème are winners
To the much publicized Sideboard with a KQED segment, this place was busy yet this didn't deter the workers from providing customers with attentive service. This location was a hidden gem for a 1st time visitor bc there isn't a sign in front of the house, fortunately friends who have gone before led the way. Orders: Chai tea-a little weak in chai spice so I felt it could have been better. What fell short on flavor was compensated with the huge cup size. English Muffin w/apricot jam-the English muffin that looked like a huge biscuit had all the home made components of a delicious muffin. Despite this being such a simple item, Sideboard really satisfied my carb intake. Look forward to visiting soon & trying out all the baked goods & dishes that make this place such a popular place.
Love coming here and the fact they have so much seating inside and outside. Enjoyed their breakfast sandwich. I am a vanilla syrup person and was bummed they have no syrups at all but the mocha was yummy. The line to get to the cashier is probably the worst part about the place. It's so squished in the line and the door so that was frustrating to be constantly moving while trying to look at the menu. Enjoyed the pastry options!
Anyone know why they don't have a storefront sign? lol They have a casual dining setup where you order at the counter, grab a seat (if dining in), and they bring the food out to you. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, though we came mid-day around 3:30 so it wasn't busy. I ordered the grilled chicken breast sandwich. The chicken breast, while thick, was on the smaller side, which left a good chunk of bread on both ends. For the price, I kind of expected a slightly bigger piece of chicken. That said, the roll was super soft and delicious, possibly the best sandwich roll I've had in a while. The chicken itself was juicy and not dry, and the pesto spread paired really well with it. The sandwich overall was still very tasty. The homemade potato chips were also solid. Nice sprinkle of salt in almost every bite. Overall, I give this place a 4.5/5. Would come again next time I'm in the area!
This place was hard to find at first and from the looks of a few people walking by asking me if this was "Sideboard," I don't think I was alone. Could have put up another big sign to let us non locals know. Haha Once inside, you are greeted by a bunch of pastries and menus. I wasn't particularly hungry but saw some heirloom beet salad with goat cheese that I had to try. It surely did not dissapoint. I added some chicken but for the amount of chicken they gave, the extra charge should be less. Overall, it was jam packed and you had to get your own water and silverware. So, not exactly table service but they did bring out the food. So I guess its like a hybrid type of restaurant. Overall, i did like the place. Worth a try, if you can find it.
My friend suggested we go here for brunch on a Friday. It was pretty busy around 11 so we ended up standing in line for a bit. Similar to a diner, you order at the counter, receive a table card with a cute food-related pun, and the food is delivered to you. With indoor and outdoor seating, we were able to find a table fairly quickly despite it being busy. I ended up getting the breakfast mac (part of the weekday breakfast menu that can be ordered from until 2). It was nothing like anything I've had before and I really enjoyed it. Having a wonderfully runny egg over bacon mac and cheese elevated the mac and cheese. It wasn't super cheese, but still fairly rich with the egg. I liked that each bite was varied. 9/10 I also got a piece of the gluten free carrot cake to go for a friend. While not a huge fan of carrot cake personally, I can appreciate the balance of the cream cheese frosting with the moist cake. It is on the denser side, but with it not being super sweet, I didn't mind the texture. 7/10 (from someone who doesn't like carrot cake) I really loved the environment. It was a great place to catch up with friends and talk. They also allow laptop's at community tables. If I lived closer, I could see it being a place to order a coffee or tea and work if you don't mind the noise of most other guests not working. I would definitely come back, perhaps to try some of their other menus.
My absolute favorite chicken sandwich and Mac n cheese. The pesto aoli on the sandwich is so delicious!! The staff is very helpful and the servers are very generous. It's a very welcoming spot to come for lunch, coffee, or a quick pastry!
Super cute spot with lots of seating but it does get popular so you can expect a wait! There is no designated parking and you can't park in the plaza across the seat. You order at the front then find a seat. Everything is self serve, from utensils to water. The menu is delicious--I haven't gotten anything I didn't enjoy!
I'm really bummed about this particular review. I am so on the fence that I do think I will revisit them a couple of more times to get a more consistent review. I was here today having lunch with my friends. It's interesting because while it does look like a place that you would go in and sit down and have your order taken by a server, it is not that kind of setup. I stood in line for about 7 minutes while one register person took everyone's orders. When I went to order decaf coffee I was told that they do not have drip coffee and forced to purchase an Americano that was decaf as ot was my only option. I ordered the decaf Americano, gazpacho soup and the bahn mi salad. Everything was more of a get-up-and-get it yourself. Kind of vibe with the exception of when they bring you your food and beverage. So basically, if you want any water or utensils or condiments, you have to get-up-and-get them yourself. For some reason, the the gazpacho did not taste good to me at all, as it was heavy on the taste of vinegar and very sour. The decaf Americano was just that nothing special. The Bahn mi salad originally came out as a sandwich and the server realized they had made a mistake. No problem, I get it mistakes happen. I will say that the server and the service was 5 stars. Unfortunately, I felt that the food was at best a 3 star. Unfortunately, I feel as though the only thing that was 5 stars was the service. The rating I felt it deserved during this experience was a 2.5 but gave them 3 stars. I may come back to give them another try, but not anytime soon. I think I was looking more for a restaurant type of atmosphere, and that wasn't what I got. And when you mix that with the food experience, I felt they deserved at 2.5 I'm truly hoping for a better experience next time.
Love this place! I've been to the lafayette one multiple times, was excited to try this location. I love that it's in a house, tons of outdoor seating around the back. Inside is so cute and the staff was very friendly. Came on a weekday morning and had no trouble getting a table. The breakfast sandwich was delicious and so many pastry options! We were recommended to try the olive oil cake and it was delicious. I'll definitely be back!

Great food - always packed. We came here on a Sunday for brunch, there was a line out the door about ten to fifteen people, we all were waiting for an average of 20 minutes. There were some tables with umbrellas kind of shading us from the hot heat, other than that i noticed the place was incredibly packed. The food is great, there are homemade potato chips to go, which were really delicious. The presentation of the food is beautiful and very instagram worthy. The waitress told us they were out of hollaindaise for our Eggs Benedict so we had to wait about ten minutes for the sauce, meaning it was made fresh. Water, utensils and napkins are self serve. If you don't mind the potential wait and the packed crowd, then I think the food is worth experiencing as it's fresh, tasty, and good quality. read more

This is one of my go-to spots for breakfast and brunch in Danville. Everything is delicious and fresh and there's plenty of outdoor seating. If you're not comfortable dining in, you can also order to-go! I've tried a variety of their menu from sandwiches, scrambles, potatoes, and cappuccinos. Everything I've tried is delicious! The ingredients are always super fresh and seasonal. If you've never been here, it's a casual place where you order at the counter and get a number, then they bring you your food. Most recently, I came here for brunch and sat outside. I got the eggs Benedict, which is served with a side salad (they do not allow you to substitute with potatoes, just FYI!) The side salad is actually really good here, it came with lots of fresh tomatoes and goat cheese. The eggs Benedict was really delicious too, perfect hollandaise sauce. I also got a cappuccino, which they let you order with oat milk. So delicious and creamy! read more

Let me qualify this with a couple notes; First, I know restaurants are struggling and this makes this review difficult. Next, this is on one single item, the Fried Chicken Sandwich with Jalapeno Slaw, Chipotle Aioli. The chicken was overcooked and to me looks like the oil needed to be changed in the fryer. The Jalapeno slaw and aioli were virtually non-existent. I am sure this place can do better of management knows what the kitchen is putting out. read more
When you enter Sideboard cafe you feel like your going to a frat house or someone's home. You pick. They have cafe lunch/dinner items and hand pressed coffee and pastries. I got the hot cocoa with marshmallow and it was visually stunning! The taste was not like Ghirardelli good because it wasn't overly sweet. I think sideboard is a fun novelty but you are definitely paying a premium. Considering I got hot cocoa, coffee and a savory side it set me back $$. Would I be back here again? Yes! read more

Sideboard is so cute but even with the new location, it is too small. With COVID, we have just been ordering take-out of the Sideboard Nachos. They are heavenly. We love how now you can call in, drive up and they practically have your bag in hand to hand to you. We loved how hot the chips were and how melty the cheese was. Way to go, Sideboard! read more
I grew up in San Ramon and I remember going to the original Sideboard on Hartz a few times with friends and family back when I still lived there. I just looked up my old review of the original location and I gave it 2 stars. I just remember it being overpriced for mediocre food. I had the mac & cheese with truffle oil a few years ago and I didn't really like it. I'm not sure if it's still on the menu. Anywho, I was back in the Bay Area over the weekend and I wanted to take my sister out for an early birthday breakfast. I didn't really like Sideboard from the past so I suggested Country Waffles but I saw that it had closed down. We ended up coming to this new Sideboard location which is across the street from Trader Joe's. I was surprised to see that it was much bigger than the previous location and also their menu has since changed. My sister and I ordered the breakfast Mac & Cheese, French Toast and two house coffees all to share. The breakfast mac was delicious as hell! It was so damn good! I'm a big fan of mac & cheese in general but I usually don't like the way restaurants or breweries make them. It tends to be really dry. This mac was so creamy and it went so well with the egg and bacon on top! UHHHH! I loved it! I would definitely put this in the top 3 Macs I've ever had! I think their breakfast mac would have a good chance at winning a macaroni and cheese competition! ha ha it was THAT GOOD! Their French Toast was alright, just average but it was a nice sweet and savory mix with the rest of our breakfast. Again, I'm not sure if they still have their truffle mac on their menu but thank God they have since replaced it or at least created this other option! Maybe there's a new chef on board? It's open seating and since it was a beautiful morning we opted to sit outside by the fountain. It was a little chilly but they do have heat lamps and also a wagon of blankets. I'm really surprised at all the changes with Sideboard. I just remember it being so-so and pricey but they've made a lot of great improvements from my visit 8 years ago! Wooo! Stopped in for a quick lunch before hitting up the Danville Fallfest on a Sunday afternoon. The place is set in a cute old house surrounded by red brick walkways with equally cute patio dining. You order at the counter and then grab a table either inside or outside. Choose outside if you can. I had only ever come here for coffee in the past, which is good coffee, and a nice place to enjoy it. Today we had a couple sandwiches. The pulled pork is nice, but could use a little more spice in the sauce. The fried chicken sandwich was ok, but slightly pedestrian as well. Nothing really to complain about if you are seeking some relatively basic food in a nice downtowny atmosphere. read more

I was thrilled to frequent this local restaurant throughout COVID- when things were just carry-out, then when outside only heavily masked. I always felt safe and comfortable here, knowing safety precautions were being followed. The food remains spectacular. It's fresh and bright and the seasonal ingredients are just bursting with flavor. (The AVOCADOS right now- jeebus.) I routinely enjoy their #12 salad, chock full of chicken, bleu cheese, crispy thick bacon, and of course ripe avocado. Along that theme, their avocado toast is STELLAR, and can be modified in the morning hours to include EGGS on top, which is delicious and indulgent and perfect. The staff is always friendly, the service always prompt. The new addition of being seated rather than seating oneself allows for better table organization, and fewer people flouting the order-THEN-sit rules, guaranteeing one a spot to sit and enjoy one's food. Positive change for sure! If you haven't been, go. I've never been disappointed by anything I've ordered. read more

This is a cute spot tucked away in Downtown Danville. You order at he counter and then the food is brought out to your table. This place can get busy and all the seating is first come first serve- no reservations. I came here the other day with my coworkers on a Friday afternoon after a nearby cycling class. We were lucky to find the big communal table open, which worked out perfectly for our group. We placed a pretty big order that came out all about the same time which was great. At this visit, I ordered the Thai chicken salad and an iced tea. The food and drink were okay. I think for the price- quite overrated. They nail the presentation because it all looks beautiful when it comes to the table. However, it wasn't like super noteworthy as far as taste. I probably won't order salad there again. They have other things on the menu that I think are more impressive. Ambiance is nice and casual. Because there are so many tables in such a small space, it can get very loud very quickly. But if you are a loud person who can hear and talk over other people, you won't have a problem. I gave it four stars because even though I didn't think the meal I ordered was that great, they do offer other items I would probably try. And the service was pretty quick considering how busy they are. read more

If you blink, you literally might miss this place... One recent morning, me and my girlfriend decided to get breakfast here. We pretty much drove past it twice. When we finally found it, it was a shaped like a house with two letters on it in the front: "SB" When we got inside, it reminded me of one of my cafes in my hometown. Very cool decor and homey! There wasn't too long of a line and after we ordered it didn't take long to get our food. I ordered the Eggs Benedict because I was craving something savory. That and I felt the need to try it for one of my friends. I took one bite and it was magic...The egg was cooked perfectly and poured out Golden yolk as I cut into it. I couldn't tell after awhile which was the yolk or which was the hollandaise sauce. However after that first bite I knew I hit the jackpot. At that time I had an idea. What better way to elevate this scrumptious dish? Hot sauce. A delish bottle of hot sauce. I got up and took a peek in their hot sauce basket and came across a Verde Hot Sauce. It was the only one there. I grabbed two others just incase. Spoiler alert. I didn't need the two other hot sauces. When I took a bite with the verde sauce, I was sent into another flavor euphoria. This had to of been one of the best classic bennies I have had in awhile. But the true mvp of the meal? The OJ. I definitely can say it was the best Orange Juice I've ever had. It was literally like drinking an orange! I really like this place. I'm definitely going to come back to try more food!! They had a special for lunch which I think was shrimp enchiladas bur we couldn't eat it because it was still breakfast. Me and my girlfriend were kinda sad about it lol. If you are a San Ramon/Danville Local, this is either the place that you and your friends went to in high school or the place that you take your friends from college who are visiting the area! As a Cal High grad, I've come here dozens of times just for the Breakfast Mac & Cheese, taken my grandma here, and recently just brought my boyfriend and one of my college friends! Sideboard prides itself in sourcing local ingredients and organic food to make their dishes and it really shows! My favorites to get are the Breakfast Mac and Cheese (comes with bacon and two fried eggs) and a hot chocolate. The reason why I took off one star is simply because the price of it all is pretty expensive. For just the mac and cheese and a drink, I ended up paying around $27 with tip. read more

This place is super cute! I like the antique-y vintage ambiance. The furniture and tables with distressed paint and mismatched chairs. You pay and select your food first then seat yourself. So whatever's open and available, it's first come first serve. It does get busy so you do have to fight for a place to sit. We just came in before the lunch rush. They change menus for breakfast and lunch FYI. So my friend was pretty bummed about that when we missed it by 5 minutes. I think it was around 12 when menu changed. I ordered the spinach salad. It had feta cheese, mandarin organizes, red onions, blueberries, pecans, and portobello mushrooms, with a vinigarette dressing. It was a good portion size and I was left satisfied. My friends ordered the Brussels sprouts and French fries, a root beer float, and a portobello panini as well. They finished their plates as well and I had a nibble and those were also pretty good. They serve quality food which will not disappoint. read more

My last delicious lunch out with girlfriends was March 12.... I will remember this for a long time. I miss my friends, I miss eating out, I miss places local like Sideboard. Places like Sideboard that have wonderful choices on their menu that you can't make up your mind, and you let the people behind you go ahead, because you want everything on the menu. Then you can sit semi-outside and on a warm day still have shade while enjoying spring. And don't forget a good cup of coffee or ice tea! Oh and those crispy sides of Brussel sprouts yum! And if you have any room left there's desserts... oh yeah. One day really soon my friends and I will be back having lunch together, breaking bread together and laughing and sharing life again...miss you Sideboard. read more

I love it here ! It's my favorite place for breakfast in Danville. Nice ambience, great coffee, (dairy free options), everything on the menu is tasty. Amazing friendly staff as well I've recently really been into their English muffins. read more

Sideboard is such a wonderful place that I loved before COVID and continue to love during these trying times. They take social distancing seriously. I've personally seen them wash down tables and chairs that have been sat on. They are careful when handling your food. The restaurant still offers a great experience even though due to the virus you can't get up to grab utensils, condiments, and water whenever you want. The wait staff is all so friendly and offer a very cool and laid back vibe while they are very knowledgeable of the products they are selling. Definitely give this place a chance if you are in need of some trendy dining. read more

Sideboard is a Danville classic. Coffee is GREAT, and large portions. I would describe the atmosphere as shabby chic farmhouse. The outdoor patio is gorgeous and the best place to grab brunch of coffee with a friend. The only thing is the prices are quite high. The quality of the food is outstanding though. I would highly recommend the avocado toast with added poached eggs. Staff is friendly it's a dog friendly restaurant which is nice! read more
