Beware of this coffee shop. For the record, we walked past Starbucks in downtown Danville to deliberately come to this place for the first time, as it's a local business. Incredibly rude server, who may be the owner, took our order. The price of coffees here is above average at almost $6 each. The server took our card to pay and told us we needed to wait outside for our coffees. Then she asked what button we wanted to press on the screen for a tip as you were not allowed to touch the screen to do yourself. I said for coffees we don't usually tip, as I hate to be put on the spot like that for a take away coffee. She said- what, You don't want to tip the staff? People normally do!! We just felt really uncomfortable with the bad attitude. The person that brought us our coffees outside was really pleasant and friendly, so no fault there. But I'm sorry, don't try to shame people into a tip for very average coffee that you ask people to stand outside and take away. We go out of our way to support local businesses during covid. I came here last Saturday to meet with a few HS classmates. We had a somewhat mini reunion. It's definitely a very busy place. So try and come early. You get in line to order your food and you can either eat inside or you can eat outside in their outdoor area ( which btw...is very cute). They don't really have enough tables inside. So you either eat outside or do the waiting game and hope for someone to finish eating quickly. They have an area where you pick up your own utensils and condiments. I ordered their Veggie Scramble, a slice of their Coffee Cake, and a Chai tea latte. Their Veggie Scramble was pretty good but their Coffee Cake may have been a little over baked. The biggest complaint I have about this place is parking. They don't have a parking area. You will need to park across the street at Trader Joe's or the other parking lot which is across the street as well where there are a bunch of stores and restaurants. In addition, we ordered macaroni and cheese. The staff, realizing we planned to share the macaroni and cheese, divided it up into two separate bowls without us even having to ask! The soft-shell crab sandwich was unique and interesting, and I'm glad I ordered it! The Mac & Cheese was also delicious, on par with the Mac & Cheese from other restaurants that serve only Mac & Cheese. Splitting the sandwich and Mac & Cheese between two people was also perfect, as both of us left full, but not overly so. Ambience: The inside seating area is decorated in a very cozy cafe style. Since its an order-at-the-counter joint, seating was a big issue. I saw a solo chick taking up a table of six for just her and her latte. Most people didn't seem to mind sharing tables, so I figured the food must make it worth the awkwardness. We did this until we could make our party of 10 work. When I first moved to this area I gave this establishment 5 stars. The menu is small and seems pretty typical standard American. However, everything they serve here is elevated. Clearly they have some sort of foodie running things in the kitchen. Their homemade baked goods are excellent. Try the English muffins and their cookies. They also serve excellent coffee. Doesn't get much better than Blue Bottle pour overs. That said, it still doesn't seem like the prices should be this high. I hate paying extra for "atmosphere". If I balked at buying a $12 veggie burger at the Counter (which has an excellent gourmet veggie burger with a million and one options) than I'm certainly going to balk at buying one here. And as good as their food is, it isn't veggie/vegan friendly. There are very few (if any) vegan options here. I guess not surprising considering the limited menu. Another downside is the crowds. Yesterday was the very first time I had gone to Sideboard in their new location. I had given up going to them because they were always so crowded, making it an unpleasant experience. Now yesterday I happened to be at home during the day and was able to go at an off time. The cafe itself wasn't crowded but forget about trying to find parking around there during the day. Traffic was horrible as well due to ongoing construction and the high school. So despite the increased space inside, it is still almost impossible to come here without it being an unpleasant experience. The high prices, limited menu (with little change), impossible parking and traffic, and crowds have made me take Sideboard off my list of places to go. read more

Cool atmosphere, would be a great first time date place as you order at the counter yet it has an upscale feel. The food was well prepared but not a lot of quantity, in other words for the sheared eggs the eggs were perfectly cooked, the hollandaise was perfect, and the spinach was wilted perfectly, but seemed more like a diet plate. It would be a good choice for someone on a low carb diet, but In my opinion it should have been on toast or at least had more spinach. I am not going to complain that it was a hollandaise instead of a typical cream sauce that is served with sheared Eggs as I love hollandaise. We also had the potatoes gratin with an egg on top and a side of applewood bacon. The three pieces of thick cut bacon were oven cooked and very tasty. Perfect Bacon! The potatoes were just ok, but the egg was again perfectly cooked. We saw the eggs Benedict with bakery quality English muffins, and that looked better than our sheared eggs, at least more filling. We went back a second time, and the eggs Benedict lived up to expectations. Fair price for a good quality Benedict. We also tried a cinnamon roll, it looked good but proved to be disappointing as it was dry like it was made with bisquick. Go here if you want a cool atmosphere, and have a little extra money to spend on food. Expect smaller portions at breakfast for the money. He asked us for a name for the order, and I asked him if I could leave the table marker with him, since we were leaving the restaurant. When we came back to pick up our order, we stood in the "phone order pickup" area, while not being acknowledged for the entire time we stood there (about five minutes). Eventually a girl came out with a takeout order and was speedwalking through the restaurant with it, seemingly looking for a table marker. My boyfriend chased her down and came back and said it wasn't our order. Then it occurred to him that she said the order was "Jello" (not my name). Jello was - guess what - the name on our original table marker. Why did we even give a name with the order then? As for the food, the Thai chicken salad was fine but mostly greens. I had the same complaint last time I came here; that they charge SF prices for mediocre salad. My pappardelle in a sun dried tomato cream sauce with spinach and chicken was delicious. I feel like I'm the only person I know who doesn't like this place. The atmosphere and vibe is not for me: it's seat yourself, first come first served, and you have to get your own water. A lot of the seating is communal, which I don't prefer. The menu is limited, the staff is rude (mostly younger people), the prices are high, the food is bad, and they make no effort to accommodate any type of food allergies. The worst for me, however, is Wednesday night, when they have live music. I suspect it's open mic because it is terrible. And so loud. You can hear the warbling blocks away. The restaurant itself is super cute and casual and seems like a really local spot. The mac and cheese is really good, but there's a LOT of breadcrumbs. The tater tots are like fried mashed potato balls and are served with really yummy creamy herb sauce. Actually, all the condiments served at sideboard are seriously tasty, which is high praise coming from this condiment lover. TLDR: Typical american food, kind of dingy, better as a cafe than as a restaurant. I've been here a few times because one of my friends really likes this place. It can be kind of hard to find at first because it's in the middle of a bunch of construction and it looks like a regular house. It can be kind of hard to spot so look out for where people are gathering. There is usually a line that you can see from outside the house. The interior is darkly lit with a variety of different types of tables strewn across the floor. The decor is very casual and looks like it could be the home of some eccentric old lady who likes to knit and make scrapbooks filled with fancily dressed cats sipping tea. The place also feels kind of dirty to me, I'm not sure if it's because of the dim lighting or because the staff can't really keep up with the people there. But I just get the feeling that everything there is kind of greasy and oily, whether or not it has been used. I usually get tea or a dessert there because I don't really like any food they have on their menu. Last time I went, I tried the potato gratin because of how highly recommended it was on yelp. Bad idea, it was absolutely disgusting. It was a small pile of thinly sliced potato that tasted overpoweringly of cheese. I'm almost impressed by how cheesy they were able to make. There was no visible cheese for me to see or scrape off (believe me I tried), but it was still so ridiculously chezzy that I gagged every time I tried to eat it. I ended up more in awe than upset, because it must have taken a lot of effort (with the cutting and chez infusion) to make that dish taste like complete shit. The staff are pretty chill and lax that make you feel welcomed at the same time. Let's just start by saying HANDS DOWN BEST MAC AND CHEESE of all places I've had Mac and cheese, I'm a Mac snob. I keep finding myself coming back here for it because nothing tops it. The burger is good and get the creamy herb is so good to dip your fries in. The shrimp ceviche is good, very light and refreshing. I've had the scone today, it could be a tad bit sweeter but it was yummy. Another great thing about this place is that they allow dogs!!! Crisp pieces of breadcrumbs and noodles, cheesy heaven sauce, butter, melts in your mouth, makes me drive 30 minutes without hesitation.... YUMMM. I can never get past that Mac and Cheese. It's my staple. Other items: Tortilla soup-good, rich, hearty, uses lots of spices Shrimp Mango Enchiladas- good flavors but the tortilla was soggy. I finally got to try out this place. So I had breakfast and lunch here. I had the bacon scramble for breakfast, and I didn't really think it was worth it. It was kinda pricey but it wasn't bad. Been back twice, would have been third but couldn't get a seat the first time I tried and it's too hard with a baby to jockey for space. It's hit or miss. Meatloaf is too sweet, the tater tots are divine. The mango and shrimp enchiladas are perfection, the grilled chicken salad is boring and drab. Service is ok. Typical late teen/early 20's hipster servers and attitude, some are super helpful and others super obnoxious. There's a guy with a beard who is incredibly kind and friendly. The female waitstaff is definitely less friendly. The bottom line is the setup makes it near impossible for us to eat there. I do not want to spend $15 on a sandwich to stand in line, juggle my toddler, high chair, diaper bag, and table marker for food delivery while praying somebody leaves so I can sit down and unload everything before the food comes. It's hard enough without a kid, with a kid it's painful. I won't go unless it's a super off time, like 430 on a Thursday. Forget weekends. It's just not worth the hassle. read more

I absolutely love this place. They take English muffins to a whole new level. The coffee is GOOD and their Tea presentation is top notch. I stop in EVERY chance I get AND tell ALL my friends to also. read more
