Long Beach local here and here us a honest review of Sideburns. Been craving a non-chain burger for the past couple of weeks decided to check this place out on a Saturday afternoon. Hulk Burger 5/5 - reminded me of In N Out without the vegetables and more meat. Would get it again. Smash Burger 5/5 - Single patty with onions I gave my son the bacon off my Hulk Burger, he devoured it. Basket of Fries 5/5 - for $5 it's a steal. Not overly oily, again reminded me of In n Out fries but better Onion Rings 5/5 - fresh and crispy. Glad to see they didn't use bread crumbs, instead a wet batter and they were made fresh. You take a bite and the entire onion doesn't slide out. They know what they are doing. Atmosphere 3/5 - No A/C so pretty hot, could use a good scrub down and update Service 4/5 - Nobody at cashier when we got there. Lady was very nice but had to text someone before greeting us, but she was very kind and may have saved this from a 3 star experience. Bottom line- if you wanna grab a quick bite to eat and have a little time it's worth the wait to have the burgers here. It's 100% made fresh to order. If you're looking for a great place to hang out and chat with friends as you eat wouldn't recommend this place. Maybe getting something to go is the better option. Pretty solid burger. Didn't like the shredded lettuce. Prefer whole lettuce. Pickles, sauce, cheese, meat all had the right flavor. Little bit too greasy than I prefer. But they used pretty high quality beef and it's cooked well. The poutine fries however I had to throw away because the fries had a fishy taste. Not sure why. Probably the oil they used. Will have to try the other fried sides next time to see if they use that same oil again. read more

I was out in Long Beach for the weekend with my bf and my cousin. I was really craving a burger and found that this restaurant was the closest in proximity to where we were at. We got here at around 5:30-6. It wasn't busy at all which was nice! It took a little bit for us to be helped and that was okay too because there is a good amount to look at on their menu. We noticed that this restaurant also is connected to a dive bar so i believe that is why it took a little bit for us to be served. The server had to be at two places at once.. i can see how this could be a problem if they were more busy. The burgers seemed so unique with some interesting flavors. The burger i ordered was good! Didn't get a fulfilling feel from it but it was definitely good. The flavors aren't overpowering and the burger wasn't hella greasy. The chili cheese fries, i wasn't too fond of. Finished walking for an hour on a good Saturday beach evening and of course to celebrate a successful workout ya gotta eat. Saw this place driving one day and decided one weekend to give it a go. Guesss what day it is. Lol nope not hump day, it's the day to try this burger place. My only options are turkey, chicken and anything vegan or vegetarian so I scanned the menu and saw that they have a chicken option and a vegan option. I was a little disappointed it's a beyond meat patty and not something homemade but hey it's better than nothing. I chose the Vegan Smash minus the caramelized onions and got the full fries instead of the 1/2 order option because as you know if you've read any of my reviews I freaking love fries. I didn't really expect much from the beyond patty because I've had it a gazillion times but with the right additions, toppings, sauces, bun it could be tasty. The wait was about 15 minutes and since they had outside seating it was cool to sit and wait and people watch. While outside I saw a man go in just to buy two coke bottles, open them open his hand sanitizer and then walk to the block away McDonalds to get fries. I mean I get it it's McDonalds fries but to just leave your drinks open like that. That man has no regard for germs, thieves or basically anything. He's the type of guy who risks it all and places the mortgage on black or leave all the windows of his car down with his wallet clearly visible in the middle counsel. I noticed the young lady at the counter getting my food ready so I walked in as she was bagging it up, looks like they give everyone the same to go bags I got a Honest tee to go with the food because I didn't see any options for water nor was there a ask if I wanted a drink. In fact the initial engagement as I entered was more like hey I'll just wait until you order something so go ahead and have it it. Not to much communication really. I also asked for bbq sauce with my order because if it's a good sauce you'll benefit from a good fry dipping and your burger might need it. I was right about the burger needing it. The bun was put on the grill so it was soft but a little crisp to it which is always magic and better than any regular hard stiff bun that's places on burgers so 10 points for that. But sadly that's were it ends for the burger it's really really dry. Like they just dropped a dash of condiments on the burger. I could have sworn it came with I think a thousand island sauce but it was more like one dash island sauce. So I added the bbq sauce for moisture. Welllllll the bbq sauce helped but it wasn't my favorite. It has a hint of smoke but it's tangy and a little tart and not thick at all it's quite then if that's your speed,then perfect you'll love it but it's not my preferred taste. The main event really was the fries and they didn't let me down I found myself literally taking my finger and swiping for the crumbs at the bottom of the container. I don't know what potato they used but never ever change. They were cut kinda in half which was different and I liked it, they were the perfect balance of crisp, salt, and potato. When you put fries in a bag or container eventually the moisture makes them turn into mashed soggy fries. Gross I know but these remained crisp (perhaps it's because the walk from the front to outside was 15 seconds ) but non the less crisp I say . Just thinking about those fries man I want more. Adding to the atmosphere is some cool music playing this place screams beach burger feel. They literally should be on the shore serving everyone, it has that type of vibe. They would sell out of fries everyday guaranteed. Next time I'll try the Chicken burger and maybe some cheese curds. Hopefully they can redeem themselves from the dry vegan burger, but as long as they have those fries I see myself going possibly just for them. read more

When I got there there was only one person waiting, I ordered twice because I added some more food. The guy said 20 min and I know I ordered a lot so the time is reasonable, well I had to wait for 45 min and the order was incomplete. I am already frustrated from waiting and at this point more people had ordered and all of us are waiting for a long time and I'm not the only one mad at this point. So it took them another 20 min to get me 2 plain hotdogs! By that time the 1st burgers that come out are cold. I get home, everything is soggy and cold. I don't usually write bad reviews or complain for little things but wating an hour for burgers is just crazy. The place looks clean and staff is friendly hopefully they can get more organized to make the orders faster. read more

The two stars are for the person behind the cash register who assisted de-escalation with the terrible food service I received. This review if not to her, but the cook that was behind the grill. Last Friday, December 1st at 9:33 pm, I took this picture. I came to sideburns once before and my burger was AMAZING. I really thought this was going to be my new burger go to place. This new cook however, (short female) was incredibly rude and talked back to me after I requested a refund from my meal for the second time she made it. It took sooo long for the redo with the restaurant not even being busy, (the first time, the party was overly dry and I kindly asked for a remake). The second burger was probably the worst burger I had, cheese not even melted and burger completely dry. The cook proceeded to talk back to me saying "have you ever had a smash burger? The cheese is supposed to look that way." Stepping out of her post and confronting me. Unfortunately, due to that service (rude behavior, long wait, unnecessary talk back from the cook), I will not be choosing to dine here again. STEPH JUDGEMENT: My fave bar food on 4th St with great vegan options. When you think of bar food, "vegan" doesn't usually come to mind, so I was surprised to read some of the great reviews about the food from this place. You can order their food from The Stache bar next door, and that's in fact how we've only ordered their food, as Sideburns proper never seems to be open on its own when we're there. One evening we paid a visit and ordered their vegan chili cheese fries, vegan "fish" and chips, and the arugula salad. We were IMPRESSED by the chili cheese fries. I don't like chili that's too "beany" or chunky, as most veg chili tends to be, so this mildly textured flavorful slurry served atop perfectly crisp fries and sprinkled with vegan cheese (admittedly my least favorite part of the whole affair, but not bad) was an alchemical wonder to us! Their portobello mushroom "fish" and chips, while very tasty, was also VERY greasy and we kind of overloaded on fried foods that night. At least we had the arugula salad, which was a welcome hit of acidity and brightness to the fried bounty. Since that introduction we've had the chili cheese fries a couple more times, and the last time we tried some of their burgers with beyond patties and yum! Their food is nothing overly fancy, but just done well, which is all that we can ask of any restaurant. I'm never shaving these sideburns off! read more

Really loved my first trip here. Their standard burger is called a smash burger, but seemed a little thick to use that term on. The flavor was great though, so I don't have any complaints. Really really delicious burger. The chili cheese fries were great; real chili and big chunks of onion and pepper made the flavor. The cheese curds may have been the star of what was a great show. Came here for the first time and was thoroughly impressed. I travel a lot and eat at a lot of restaurants, so I like when I can be surprised. The staff was immediately hospitable and recommended the Bacon Bleu burger, which I ordered with a half-order of fries and a bottle of Coke. The whole meal was perfect. The fries are crispy, but not over salted or overdone. The burger is, to me, a "no substitutions" burger; you have to try it the way it's meant to be prepared. With the choice of additions, including a proprietary strawberry onion jam, it's perfectly assembled to be amazing. I refused to eat anything else while I was eating it as to not fuck with the vibe of that burger. The chef even asked how it was and I gave him that serious, full-mouthed thumbs up you do when you're focused on the food. The restaurant itself is fairly small and meant to seat smaller crowds; minimal, but functional. They had a television playing The Triplets of Belleville, so I just kinda ate and vibed out to that.
