This is hands down the BEST French spot in all of Rockland County. The mussels dish is my fave (poulette style). The steak tartare is AMAZING. Their backyard patio is a must visit - amazing atmosphere, fun lighting, and less hot and sunny than the sidewalk seating. Went on Mother's Day without reservations so we tried to be understanding. The restaurant is basically mismanaged or maybe unmanaged might be a better description. After sitting there for 10-15 minutes, a waitress went by and put up her hands as if to say, "sorry, its not my fault". After another 5-10 minutes, the same waitress came by to announce that, "I'm your waitress now". Not sure if that meant someone just quit or she just felt sorry for us! After placing our orders we waited another significant amount of time before the food came out. We had ordered the Cod, Salmon, and Hangar Steak. The steak was very good. The Cod was also not bad if a little on the petite size. The Salmon was basically raw. We sent it back and asked that it be taken off the bill; which it was. There was no apology by anyone in a management/ownership role which goes back to my first comment about lack of management. Its a shame that decent food is being ruined by lack of caring by the management of the establishment. read more

We stopped in and had dinner. We sat inside due to the weather. The restaurant was nicely decorated and had a pleasant atmosphere. The food was fabulous with reasonable portions. Between the three of us we had a seafood, duck and chicken dish. All were great but the duck was exceptional. The service was very good. Sangria was good as well. I had lunch today with a friend hoping to have a pleasant meal but it was anything but pleasant. The waiter was courteous however the food took an awfully long time considering there were only 3 tables of 2 including ours. The lobster bisque soup was adequate a bit on the creamy side. The tap water had a chlorine taste so we ordered a bottle of sparkling Pelligrino water. Additionally the water glasses were filthy. The worst part of the meal however was when my friend discovered hair on top of the mozzarella from a chicken, tomato and mozzarella sandwich. Good thing she decided to not eat the bread on the other half of the sandwich. To our dismay the maitre'd while apologetic told me it rarely occurs but it can happen time to time. I'm guessing the kitchen staff doesn't wear hair nets. While we were comped the chicken sandwich and water I won't be coming back. read more

This is my goto place. Love the back patio, food is always excellent, the staff very friendly and it is priced reasonably. Especially love tapas days on Monday and Tuesday. Great wine selection, great bar scene (I've met some great people just hanging out at their bar). I go here at least a couple of days a week. read more

My husband and I stopped in for Sunday brunch. We were seated in the back patio and what a pleasant surprise! It is so relaxing back there and our waiter was very attentive, we could have stayed all day! Hubby had the angus burger and I had the Maryland Benedict. Both were excellent as were the drinks. Yet another example, as if more were needed, of the dismal state of gastroculture in Rockland County. We're 40 minutes north of Manhattan, yet might as well be in Youngstown, Ohio for the appalling fare on offer. Case in Point: Sidewalk Bistro in Piermont. The 20something waitstaff seems more interested in flirting with each other than seating patrons. My wife and I wandered around disconsolately in search of a hostess and were finally waved toward a table by a harried waitress. I ordered the plat du jour, softshell crabs. Softshell crabs are delicate things, best sautéed lightly and served in their own delectable juices. Mine arrived in the sort of Tall Food, '80s-era pyramid that would have looked chic in a MacGyver episode---two measly crabs, caked with Plaster-Paris breading and perched on top of a slurry of oily vegetables. The presentation was fugly: instead of being julienned, the vegetables were raggedly chopped, heaped in a seaweedy mound, and awash in flavorless oil (saffron oil, maybe?). Spices there were none. A thin trickle of characterless, syrupy-sweet something-or-other oozed out of the crabs. My wife's dish---steak tartare, supposedly made with Kobe beef (the world-weary diner raises his eyebrow in cynical skepticism), came with a few rounds of stale baguette and the obligatory parfait glass full of fries. A word about fries: In the Balthazar cookbook, owner Keith McNally devotes a full page to the religion of pommes frites, arguing (with some heat) that the quality of the French fry is the deciding factor in the quality of a bistro. He goes on to describe, in loving detail, the Belgian (if memory serves) technique for soaking potatoes overnight (to leach out their starch), then double-frying them in peanut oil to produce a fry that is the apotheosis of the spud: exquisitely flaky inside, crunchy and crusted with salt on the outside, a thing of wonder, a sublime experience for anyone who worships the potato. The French fries at Sidewalk Bistro are limp, defeated things, sodden with oil and too dispirited to defend themselves. They seem to be aspiring to the nadir of the fry hierarchy---McDonald's---but have given up in despair. Did I mention my martini? I asked for a dry martini, shaken, with a lemon peel rather than an olive. In Manhattan---sorry to belabor the Rockland versus Manhattan theme, but there it is---any decent barkeep knows that a martini ordered "with lemon" means lemon *peel*, a sliver of peel rubbed around the lip of the glass to glaze it with lemon oil, then tossed into the drink. Mine arrived with a thick *wedge* of lemon notched onto the rim of the glass, as if it were a Mai Tai. (shudder) Of course, the drink wasn't shaken, but stirred. Nor was it ice-cold, as a martini should be, and as is easily done in any decent bar where the gin is kept in cold storage, as it should be. If I wanted to belabor the point, I might mention that I ordered a martini with Bombay gin, which resulted in a 10-minute wait. In the fullness of time, the waitress wandered back and informed us that the bartender was foraging in the basement for Bombay and would I mind Tanqueray? Fine, make it Tanqueray, but any bar that doesn't keep Bombay within reach is a bar that might as well be in Butte, Montana. Bottom line: Enjoy the garden seating in back, confine your order to drinks only, and uncomplicated drinks at that. read more

We have been here many times. The best place to sit on a lovely day is in their backyard patio. I enjoy their wine, seafood and steak dishes. Mussels, scallops, steak, Kobe burger, lobster puff pastry are all highly recommended. Their Beaujolais menu was superb. Looking forward to returning very soon! read more

My husband and I have lived in Rockland County since 1978 and never knew of this restaurant. We decided to go there to celebrate our 42nd anniversary. The food was phenomenal, the service excellent. I had the french onion soup which was the best I've ever had. My shrimp and scallop dish was delicious. My husband had a kobe burger which he throroughly enjoyed. Dessert was cream puffs with vanilla ice cream, strawberries and whipped cream. An exquisite creation. We will definitely be going back. read more

Always a winner in my book! We have been many times - for dinner, brunch. I like the options of seating. On a great day definitely sit in the back garden. You will feel like you are in Paris. We went for brunch yesterday (party of 5) and had a wonderful time. The waiter was attentive and so friendly and made great suggestion. The food was delicious! You can never go wrong with the mussels - delish! The French Onion soup is awesome and my husband had a cold cauliflower soup with a drizzle of truffle oil. He thougherly enjoyed it. He said it had a lot of great flavor & refreshing. I had Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon and it had the perfect hollandaise sauce, not too thick & heavy and very flavorful. Others in our party had Croque Madame and the Shrimp and Cheddar Grits, both winners. Don't forget the dessert. We had the beignets that were just OK, could have been a little bigger & puffier, like Cafe Du Monde. The Raspberry Mojito was so refreshing!! I love this place...I really feel like I am back in Paris, one of my favorite places in the world! Do try! PS Only negative - I must say by 3 in the afternoon on Sunday they should do a bathroom cleanup (after a lot of use). Once seated the waiter was too busy talking to coworkers to check on us, Appetizers came out then 20 minutes passed and we had to ask if the rest was coming, it was only tapas so not full meals we're waiting for. Unprofessional staff, especially the hostess that keeps flirting with the waiter. The waiters were dazed and confused. there is also a cat that comes by the outdoor tables, none of the staff cared about this. The tables where filthy and utensils and wine glasses stained. The food was bland and overpriced. Soups was oily and bland, onion soup was not properly made, the salads where overdressed, the meats are of sub par quality, I don't believe the kobe beef is actually kobe. bread is stale, come on people, this is supposed to a french place. overpriced, also the menus had pieces of food stuck to them, staff is just careless. makes you wonder what's going on in the kitchen. I've given this place three chances, and by the third time we ate there (I like to be certain before reviewing an establishment) I was quite certain of the ingredient quality, care of the kitchen, and serving experience. Happened to stop into the Sidewalk Bistro for a drink with my husband before dinner at another restaurant down the street where we had reservations. The bartender, Bobby and waitress, Sara couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming to the restaurant. Poured a great drink. Dinner menu and the specials that night sounded delicious. Quality eatery serves a multitude of fine choices in a fresh air atmosphere. On a beautiful summer evening, we opted for the packed back courtyard, as did everyone else. Food is presented creatively and spiced properly, seemingly always appropriately for the dish. White sauce on the mussels one of the best I've ever had, so good I asked for more bread to finish it all. Cheese plate was good, not great. Pork chops were pounded soft and packed with flavor. Several fish entrees were nicely prepared so everyone at the table was happy. Wine offered by the glass took the wine selection competition away from the couples, a good thing. Waiter was attentive and informative. Dinner was delightful but a tad pricy. I wonder, like all the other guests, what it is like to actually eat inside the restaurant? read more

Waiter got order wrong, took too long for simple correction (while other food got cold), then argued w us, instead of simply apologizing. Then, after adding a surprise surcharge for 'premium' vodka (in a watery bloody mary), he had the nerve to write a new check for a basic coffee refill. The manager also was not apologetic.
