Have an exceptional experience with Dr Siegel and his staff. I left a message to set up an appointment and received a call back the next day with an appointment within a week. The staff does a good job at advising that the appt can be up to 4 hours, which is great to know ahead of time. Our appointment was 2.5 hours. The check in was fast and easy. Every step was communicated to us. Once Dr. Siegel came in, my son couldn't stop laughing, he makes the entire exam fun and is very interactive. Definitely recommend. read more

Arrived at 8:06 for an 8:15 appt. Did not get called until 10:40. Yes, you read that right, it was 2 1/2 hours before getting called back for the initial exam. In the meantime, my special needs daughter with autistic traits is having a complete meltdown. How do you make these kids wait this long? Like other reviews, I concur the office staff can care less. It was one excuse after another. Maybe parents should arrive for appts 2 hours late and see how they like it. I'm sure you would be turned away. Dr. Siegel this is absolutely not acceptable!! Two words: NEVER EVER!!! What kind of medical professional establishment has their patients waiting AT LEAST 4 hours to be seen? I have a 4 month old and literally within the 4 hours we were there, I never saw the Dr. The waiting room is small, over crowded, disgusting. The bathroom inside the waiting room was gross with the damn key not even working! C'mon! The front desk staff, clearly you hate your job. They have you going in and out and in and out. Why not do your first and second assesment together then have the patient wait (for the solution to dilate your patients pupils, which doesn't take long btw) then do your full and final assessment! They told me your child eyes are fine, might need glases, will monitor, but you still have to wait for the doctor to see him..why?! To tell me the same thing so they can charge the insurance companies more for their lack of services?!? That's BS! We weren't the only ones who left. There were so many names that were called once their turn was up and clearly they all left. I'd rather drive to a further location just so I can experience some professionalism. Dr. Siegel knows his stuff. He is very knowledgeable and gave us great advice when my daughter was diagnosed with a minor eye problem. How can babies tell you something is wrong right? We no longer go here because kids have grown up, and the waiting period is absolutely horrible. And it's not like we can go to the appointment, grab a bagel and come back. I have never been so disrespected in my entire life by office staff (JENNIFER)!! I had an emergency appointment here last Thursday at 1:00 scheduled by my daughter's pediatrician. I showed up about 20 minutes early and was told "If the doctor is able to see her today, it will be about a 4-6 hour wait." I asked what they meant by IF when I have an appointment. I was rudely told "you don't actually have an appointment, we just had to schedule you in so the doctor can try to see you." Are you joking? This is an emergency and my daughter is only four months old. An emergency doesn't mean maybe they can see me in 4-6 hours. I ended up leaving and going to the ER at San Antonio. My daughter still needs to see an opthamologist so I had to schedule an "appointment" at this hell hole again today. I spoke with JENNIFER and I wanted reassurance that she will definitely be seen, not an "if" and she informed me it was her who I spoke with in person last Thursday and she denied ever saying that and continued to argue with me. She wouldn't let me get a word in, I would let her speak and when I would go to say something she would cut me off and told me I have "no business calling and screaming" when she is bending over backwards to get my daughter in with the doctor. I was not screaming the slightest bit. ARE YOU JOKING? This is a very stressful situation and this girl Jennifer made it all worse. She ended up telling me "this obviously isn't isn't office for you" and when I asked to be transferred to whoever makes the appointments she refused to transfer me and said "you will not be coming here, you are not wanted." Then proceeded to yell at me some more and not let me get a word in. I heard other staff in the background gossiping and laughing about this phone call. She made this situation even worse than it already is. My daughter needs help ASAP and now I have to wait even longer. If you don't genuinely care for people, obviously JENNIFER does not, then you have no business working in the medical field!! I will be calling the better business bureau and reporting this woman. I'm absolutely disgusted by the unprofessionalism and disrespect from Jennifer. I ended up crying due to how frustrated she made me. I would rather drive six hours away than go to this place. I can't believe the doctor allows these type of people to be working in his office. How they have not been shut down is beyond me. Jennifer should reconsider her career choice. This place is an absolute joke!!! If you plan on coming here for an appointment be prepared to wait about 5 hours plus. Totally unacceptable. The staff up front does not help you whatsoever. If you decide to subject yourself to such horrible service make sure you bring two meals with you because you will quickly deplete your calorie storage for the day if you do not. This is the worst eye doctor office! First of all the reception area is very rude and unwelcoming. The wait is usually more than 4 hours so bring something to keep your kids busy. Calling to make an appointment is impossible! I tried to call several times to make an appt., I was instructed by front desk to leave a message, which I did for several days and weeks, never got a phone call back. Finally, drove to the office to make the appt in person, since they only have one person working the front desk, I was told to wait to make an appt by again a very rude receptionist. There was hardly anyone in the waiting room too. It's just unfortunate that this is the eye doctor office I have to deal with. Well, the fortunate thing is my insurance told me after complaining about this doctor's office that since my daughter is old enough to be seen by a regular ophthalmologist, I can take her to a different ophthalmologist... That's the best news ever!!! If you have other choices for an ophthalmologist, please do consider going to another ophthalmologist, you will not regret it! The Children's eye Institute is not a place to be recommended! They just really suck in customer service. The weird thing is, there eye doctor's are really nice and knowledgeable, but getting to see them is impossible with the kind of people they hire as there office staff. read more

What a wonderful doctor! My son had strabismus and at age 29, Dr. Siegel, in Upland, California, was able to repair both eyes and with a wonderful bedside manner. MediCal had rejected his claim but Dr. Siegel actually went to the insurance office on our behalf to insist it be covered because it was necessary. I have rarely met a doctor who actually cares about his patients as does Dr. Siegel. His office is very busy and it's not always easy to get through, it's true, but he's worth the effort. Once he saw my son, he arranged for the surgery within two weeks and it has, in one day, changed his vision entirely and his self esteem. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Siegel! read more

Dr. Siegel preformed my eye surgery in April 2016 to correct my double vision (esotropia). Now I am 5 weeks post-op and I see perfect! I know that the waiting time in the office is long, but it was definitely worth it. He is a great Doctor that knows what he's doing. read more

The wait here is anywhere from 2-5 hours. The doctors and back office staff are great. Front office staff is usually rude, but that's probably because they field complaints all day about the wait. If I could go somewhere else, I would, but this is the only children's eye specialist around. read more

Horrible experience. Segal brought in multiple staff to treat my 2 year old son as an experiment when he found that he had a detached retina. Before telling us he went to get multiple staff members to come into the room as he was explaining to them in medical terms before telling us. Never will I go here again. The stars are for the doctor....he is great ! The staff is ok. I'll put up w people as long as my son gets the health care he needs. Dr. Siegel was the first one ever to find a good prescription for my son. I am grateful. The receptionist is nice once you understand him. The doctors optometrist/opthamologist that does follow up has been great. My issues are with staff. I have requested copies of my son's prescription multiple times, and they never show up in the mail. When I had the local optometrist request a copy, they sent an expired prescription. So now we need not only to get his lenses redone, but needs a whole new pair while he waits for the correction.....Also there is high demand for the doctor, my son is 17, so we don't mind waiting all day if we need to. read more

I am extremely dissatisfied with the services provided by this office. From the receptionist to the billing administrator Jen. They are ALL unprofessional and hung up on us. We paid cash and they withdrew 500 dollars extra from our account and failed to give us a refund and didn't take any responsibility. Jen is rude and should t be in the role she is. she yelled at us, hung up on us and said it wasn't their fault THEY charged us twice. I took my daughter to Dr. Siegel's office at the high desert location. Upon arrival, I checked in and asked if I needed to fill out new patient forms. The receptionist gave me a bit of a snotty attitude and rudely told me to wait and have a seat. I sat and waited an hour before the receptionist gave me the necessary first time patient paperwork. 20 minutes later the technician called her back. She was really nice and explained everything well and made my daughter feel very comfortable. After asking me a few questions she asked me to take a seat in the lobby again. About 20 minutes later the PA called her back. He was very nice and professional and he explained he would be putting drops in her eyes to dilate them and she would be getting called back in about 45 minutes. He explained that my daughter had chalazions that would need surgical removals on the bottom and top lid. After an hour or so we were called back to see Dr. S. He seemed to be rushed and distracted. He introduced himself very sarcastically and asked my daughter a series of 20 questions in a row without giving her a chance to answer and then said. "Do you even speak English at all? Oh you don't?? Oh well that's going to be a problem!" I was shocked at this point by his unprofessional bedside manner and racist remarks. He began poking at her eye WITHOUT gloves on!! In a matter of seconds he began to squeeze her eye very aggressively with his BARE fingernail!! He was trying to squeeze the chalazion out without anesthetic and she began to bleed quite a bit. I right away asked him if he should be poking at her eye without anesthetic. He said yes!! I was apalled!!! He then right away stopped explained she needed to have them removed that same day. He had the assistant set up. The technician had only set up enough anesthetic for the top lid. He began to numb the top lid and partially numbed the bottom. The technician asked Dr. S if she should get more anesthetic because she thought he was only going to remove the one on the top lid. He said "No its ok" He then partially numbed the bottom lid with whatever was left of the anesthetic from the top. To make a long story short, my daughter felt the whole procedure. To my horror she was not near numb. She felt when they shoved the forceps in her eye. She was screaming "stop it hurts, take it out!!" I walked out horrified and in shock. Never in my life have I experienced a situation like such. Dr. Siegel obviously is not mindful of spreading bacteria and infecting people because of his lack of cleanliness and carelessness. I will never return to this office. The manager at this office is the rudest most unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. I will never recommend anyone to this office and I feel bad for the future babies/kids who have to see Dr. Siegel. Parents beware of this horrendous place! read more

There is nothing sadder than a little four year old coming out of anesthesia...Unless it's the Physician who schedules 11 small children for surgery at 9:30 in the morning. Apparently, the discomfort of a toddler, who has had nothing to eat or drink for 18 hours by the time His Majesty gets to her, means nothing!! If a parent didn't give their child anything to eat or drink for 18 hours, DCFS would be at their door. I'm so disgusted. If anybody has the opportunity to work with a Dr. Lance Seigel....DON'T. I can tell from the other reviews that his Office is run with the same philosophy as his surgery schedule. Just a disgusting human being. read more

WISHED I HAD CHECKED YELP FIRST!!!! We went here on a referral from our primary pediatrician. I'm convinced she is unaware of how HORRIBLE this place truly is. When they said 4-6 hour window for an appt. I assumed they were speaking of worse case scenario....wrong. It was 4 hours for a regular examine due to their 3 stage rotation appointment style. Beyond this, I arrived at 8AM to find a lobby full (31 chairs, 52 people...yes, I had time to count). Checked in, told to wait. - waited over an hour for the first call back (9:30ish) -waited an hour for the second call back (10:30) -waited an hour and 15 minutes "for dilation to complete" -waited 15 more minutes to see Doctor Siegel I didn't end up leaving until 12:20pm.....over 4 hours for a standard eye examine for my child. The wait wasn't the worst part... -the need to turn in my license, phone, or keys to use the restroom after I had already checked in was ridiculous -the restroom with a bloody tampon and urine all over the floor at 8:15AM - the complete lack of care or concern when I told them about the restroom -the crushed, spilled food in the lobby floor (yes, right after open) that only got worse as the day went on. - the black duct tape covering the examine chairs and furniture to "hide" rips -the black handprints on the walls of the examine rooms -the missing handles on exam room cabinets -the lack of handwashing by the doctor or any of the staff when going between rooms seeing patients On I could go. The frustrating part is this, you bring up your concerns with one of the supervising techs and she blames demographics and their "catering to children with special needs". The Dr. (who was nice and good with my daughter) dismissed it and had the nerve to tell me that I should be thankful because my daughter is the most well behaved and physically well child he has seen all day. So I deserve a guilt trip for training my children and having a healthy child for your lack of oversight or professionalism in your practice? Do yourself a favor.....never go here. read more

My children have been seen for several years by Dr Siegal and/or his associates with no incident until this pass week. I needed a report with diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan and the office staff became rude, argumentative and unhelpful to provide this, although legally I am entitled to ask for a copy. I spoke with "Tandy" who kept telling me DPSS should provide a form, I explained this was not for Foster Care and she did not understand what I needed and asked to speak to someone in records or the office manager. She ended up putting "Jennifer" on the line who would not confirm her position and told me I needed a letter from my primary doctor requesting info. She also stated I was entitled to requested documents for personal use. Yet refused to provide w/o primary care request. I then faxed my request along with request I received to the office. Jennifer contacted the signor and said I needed primary requesting info. Needless to say, requested documents have yet to be received. What I did receive was a letter signed by Dr Siegel telling me to seek a new opthamologist due to missed appointments & not following treatment! I have never missed an appointment and treatment plan is followed because we are dealing with my child eyes! Instead of Dr Siegel making sure his staff treats patients with mutual respect he continues the rudeness he allows his staff to display. The laziness and incompetence of his office personnel far overshadows the service the doctors display. For that I refuse to rate more than the required one star, because the office staff are the first and last people you see and talk with. Clean up the staff and you'll have a more considerate and 5 star worthy practice. read more

THis is my last review of this office as I will never ever again in life go to this office. EVER! I called to confirm my 11:45 appt and was clearly told that they were running "on time." I was not seen until 12:45. When I asked the clerk at the front desk, I was rudely told that appointments can take up to 4 hours. Why did they tell me they were running "on time" Does "on time" mean waiting for one hour??? I was again rudely told that if I was dissatisfied with the service, to tell the Dr. At 2:00, we were seen my the optometrist and I asked her to explain the waiting times and why the staff was so rude. It was as if I was talking to thin air. I got no response. NONE! I told her we would never come back to this office again even if it meant driving a distance to see another Dr. This office is dirty, disorganized, has goofed instructions for an MRI for my son, continuously makes people with kids wait an inordinate time.....the list goes on. I called Dr. Seigel after the goof with the MRI and never got a return call. Sorry, this place is just a mess and I cannot and will not be subjected to this mistreatment again. read more

My pediatrician referred us to Dr. Siegel for my daughters strabismus and i was blown away with everything that they told me. We originally went to another Dr. who suggested we do eye therapy to correct her eye problem, but we went to Dr Siegel because of our pediatrician and they pretty much told us that everything that the other Dr. told us was a lie and that she don't need Vision Therapy and that she will need surgery but maybe in the next 2-5 yrs . So pretty much till her eye gets extremely bad which don't make sense to me why would you wait until it gets worst to correct it!!! and then i called a week later to ask more information regarding the surgery and never got a call back !!! My daughter has an appt in July so we will see what the Dr Siegel has to say,.. By the way we waiting 2 yrs to get seen then were sent back out to allow her eyes to dialate and by then i was waiting outside with several other parents because the waiting room was so crowded. They should honestly ask parents to leave siblings with someone if possibly because of the limited seating. read more

Horrible experience - nightmare. This staff has no clue how to treat or talk to children, and the doctor is the worst of all. My daughter was held down excessively, had finger marks on her head, ears and eyes..... She is barely 3 and of course would not co-operate, but I assumed the staff were trained for this sort of thing. When the doctor called in a large young man to help hold my daughter down without my permission, trying to peel her eyelids up while she was screaming, I expressed my concern. This process was taking forever, don't they have machines for this????? I felt uncomfortable with the amount of force being used after 15 min and when I spoke up about it, the doctor turned around and yelled IF YOU DON'T DO THIS YOUR DAUGHTER IS GOING TO GO BLIND!! Who says that to a mother?? Lame scare tactic. If I didn't care about her health I wouldn't have gone to this place in the first place. My daughter has never had vision problems before and I was not given any proper diagnosis, just a very very large lens prescription with no further details, other than being told she has to wear glasses the rest of her life and she's going blind. Wow. Yeah, just because you have crappy insurance like me, doesn't mean you have to go here. Pay out of pocket if you have to for 2nd and 3rd opinions.
