I was fortunate enough that they take walk ins! My opthamologist urged me to be seen ASAP for my white flashes and floaters. Dr. Danielle Lo provided fantastic, considerate, and thorough care. Turns out I had issues with my retina and weak spots showed it was being pulled. I am now being careful not to be jostled, lest it detach. I'll definitely be back. I appreciated that it took about 2 hrs for everything, and didn't wait too long despite how busy it was before 10:30am. The receptionist was knowledgeable and got me in ASAP. Best part is if you're a Chinese/Cantonese speaker, they've got you covered! It was also comforting to be surrounded by a majority Asian/Latine demographic. They even have Filipino doctors and decor, which is familiar and comforting. The only thing I wish they provided/offered were the disposable dark shades to use for when your pupils are dilated! read more

To start, I was referred to this location by my optometrist who gave this place high praise so of course I scheduled an appointment to come in for an exam. Calling to schedule an appointment is fairly easy and quick however once you arrive it is another story. Once I arrived for my appointment a few weeks later, the lobby was full of patients, a clear sign that this location does not know how to manage scheduling efficiently. Despite arriving on time for my appointment, I waited an additional 1.5 hours before I could be seen, not a good start. During that time, I was told to do the usual eye exam screenings using the machines and I CLEARLY saw that the machine I was to use, had just been used by another patient and the employee did not even bother to clean or sanitize it prior to asking me to put my eye/face on there. I had to request for them to clean it and then they cleaned it for me. Once it was finally my turn, I was seen by Dr. Chua. He was very friendly and seemed knowledgeable, however for a doctor, he was not sanitary at all. Normally, when you examine a patient, you would wear gloves especially if you are checking their eyes and pulling up their eye lids. Dr. Chua, used his BARE HANDS to pull up my eye lids not once but multiple times! I know he's a doctor but I have no idea where his hands have been, if they have been washed or if he had just finished seeing another patient. I quickly finished up my appointment, was given a prescription, paid my copay and was told to arrange a follow up in a month which I did. Fast forward 1 month later I come back, not because I want to but because I had already seen this doctor and they had my information already and was aware of my condition. Same thing, I waited for about an hour this time, despite being arriving 10 minutes earlier than my appointment time. Saw Dr. Chua again, and again, bare hands just touching my eyes and face. Finished the follow up appointment and sent me to the front desk to pay my copay. As always this is my own personal experience, and I was willing to overlook the unsanitary procedures of handling patients the first time but having it happen again the 2nd time just showed me it wasn't an accident but a common habit or practice. I would not recommend this location and recommend you go elsewhere. Not wearing gloves and touching a patients face and eyes is definitely not okay. read more

Dr. Garlan Lo is the most unprofessional doctor my mom has ever met. My mom had an appointment with him , but was instead seen by Dr. Danielle Lo. The nurse later told my mom she was Dr. Garlan Lo's daughter. When making a follow up appointment, my mom was asked her preference of doctor and opted to be seen by the more experienced Dr. Garlan Lo. When my mom showed up for her follow up, Dr. Garlan Lo sat in the same room and just stared at my mom. My mom was confused as to what he was doing and asked if he could begin the appointment. He said nothing and continued staring at my mom.. My mom was extremely uncomfortable and left the appointment. On the way out, one of the workers at the facility suggested maybe Dr. Lo was upset that my mom chose not to be seen by his daughter, Dr. Danielle Lo. We are not sure what happened, but it was a bizarre and strange encounter. On top of that, his office had the nerve to bill insurance for the visit where no service was performed. Skip this place. I made a simple call about the delivery of contact lenses ordered 3 weeks ago, she kept me on hold for 15mins and answered "no update". I demanded to speak to a manager. Again 15 min on hold. I had to hand up. called again and she said someone would call me back. No one did. Another call, Avery again replied no update and refused to let me speak to office or another person, put me on hold again for 15mins. I hung up again tired of this game and drove to the office. I requested an appointment online, they called and said there is an appointment available, I quickly arrived at the office and was told the appointment did not exist and I had to wait as a "walk in" which can take 2-3 hrs. The front office staff is incompetent and unprofessional, nobody wanted to admit that they had made a mistake and lure me into the office. I drove an hour to get here and had to wait another 2 hrs to see the doctor. What is NIGHTMARE...... After meeting with Dr. Lo, she reassured me that it was an misunderstanding. She was very professional and attended to the patient's needs without rushing the appointment. The back office staff were also very professional with their exams. Overall, the visit would have been perfect had it not been the extended wait. But I am grateful that they attended and took me in as a patient. Good job back office and Dr. Lo...... Thank you! Update to the above review, The Office Manager explained to me that a 3rd party company that manages their website had inadvertently booked the appointment, which I thought was kinda odd, that company assured me that there was an appointment available and also called me back to confirm the appointment to ask what type of insurance I had. This hospital is really bad. I have diabetes and the doctor referred me to this hospital for eye treatment. They made me wait for an hour even though they knew whether my diabetes would harm my eyes. Then a doctor came and saw me for 5 minutes and told me to come back next time. They did not even consider the effect of my diabetes on my eyes. It is really terrible. I called today in hopes of getting an appointment scheduled with Dr. Lo because my mom was experiencing sudden vision loss for the past couple of days and I feared that it may have been something neurological. When I called a different office for a neurologist, they suggested my mom see an eye doctor first. So I called this office and they initially scheduled us for an appointment in March. I said we couldn't wait that long because of my mom's sudden vision loss. Nonetheless, I scheduled the appointment for March. Their staff called back shortly after I made the appointment and said we could come in today before 3:30pm to wait as a walk-in. We happily obliged and immediately drove over to their office. The wait time was about 45 minutes to an hour before we got to see the ophthalmologist. Staff spoke both English and Mandarin Chinese, which was super helpful. They take certain types of health insurance and vision insurance, so be sure to give them a call ahead. Thank you to Dr. Danielle Lo and staff for saving my mom's life. I am not one to drag places or talk trash for no reason but I feel compelled to write this review. My doctor sent me an authorization to see Dr. Garlan Lo for a dilated exam so I called to make the appointment. I clicked the link they sent and filled out all of the information as well as confirmed my appointment. *Full disclosure: Lesson learned to always keep forms that I receive until they are not needed. I arrived at the office today for my appointment and was told that the authorization was for another doctor. I responded that it was for Dr. Lo and hello? why would I call their office if the authorization was for another doctor and if there was no authorization or one for another doctor why on earth would they have made me an appointment? She called my doctors office and it was confirmed that there was no authorization. I left the office in tears out of anger and frustration along with the fact that the front office girls were very condescending. I drove to my doctors office and explained the situation and the said that my authorization was right there and printed it out for me. I headed back to Dr. Lo's office (my appointment was at 3:10 and it was now after 4:00) and handed the authorization to the girl. She said nothing, typed in some stuff and they said "That will be $25.00." I looked at her and said "No apology for what I went through?" (I had to leave work early to get there, was not treated nice and was so frustrated.") She kind of rolled her eyes and said that it was my primary doctor's office fault. Whatever. I was done with it all. I was called back, had my eye pressure taken, read some lines on a chart and the doctor spent maybe 5 minutes with me and then told me that they would request an authorization for a dilated exam which was funny because that's what I thought I was there for. Authorization and miscommunication aside, I was treated very poorly and even the doctor I saw, Michael Chua, was terribly condescending and patronizing. They clearly just wanted me out of there and I will never return to this office. read more

Extremely misleading in informing us about the pricing of our Lasik Cataract and Vision Correction cost. He only told us about the '1 eye' per person on Lasik Vision Correction; misleading us to believe that this was the only cost to the entire surgery. Failed to tell us (1) 'cataract' component is over $1000 per eye; (2) outpatient surgical center of over $600 per visit; (3) Anesthesia cost of over $1300 per surgery. Our cost was more than 2.5 times what he made us to believe. In addition, he promised he would do the surgery himself; though he has been training his daughter/son-in-law as well - turned out his daughter did the surgery anyway. Please be very careful with making decision regarding cost of Lasik with Dr. Lo- make sure to ask about 'all cost' associated with thus surgery. And expect his 'family' might be doing the surgery instead of him. Better yet find a more honest MD, instead of somebody who's too greedy to be a real MD. read more

5 out of 5 for Dr Lo himself. He is very thorough when it comes to his eye exams. No matter how busy the office is, you never have the feeling of being rushed when you're in the exam room with him. He takes the time to answer all your questions and concerns. When it comes to explanations, he does it in Layman's terms. The office facility itself is also 5 out of 5. They are well staffed with plenty of asssistants that speak English, Chinese, and Spanish. The lobby area for the most part is crowded with waiting patients. There are magazines for you to pass the time with. The equipments in the office are well maintained. The selection of fashionable glasses frames are slim =( Unfortunately I can only give this review a 2.5 out of 5 due to the wait time. I have been coming here to Puente Hills Eye Care Center for over 6 years now. Each time I've been here for my appointment, never ONCE have I ever saw the doctor in under an hour. The wait time is ridiculous! On my last visit in June, I have brought this issue up to Dr Lo. He says the wait time prior use to be much worse, an hours and 30 minutes, and they are working on improving the way patients are scheduled. I hope next year when I go for my annual exam, I can write a better review of this place.
