4.5 stars. I dined at the mezzo level during restaurant week, and was in for a treat. Where most restaurant week menus were pretty fixed, Sienna Mercato was like, nah, allow yourself to indulge in whatever you want. To start, I had the fried eggplant and cured beef. The salad in both dishes were a bit on the oily side, but at least the salad tasted good. Then, for the medium dishes I had a slow roasted pork belly and the mussels. For the price, the mussels are an absolute steal because you get so many of them. The slow roasted pork belly was also really fun. You don't get much, but it's definitely a delicious piece to enjoy. For the mains, my favorite had to be the shrimp pasta. The sauce is at the perfect spiciness to give a tingle, but not overwhelm you. I enjoyed the fresh pasta and the shrimp of course. The other mains were alright---the pork chop I would've preferred to be cooked closer to medium, the farm chicken was on the dry side, and the seafood pasta was nice but nothing super outstanding. By the time I got to dessert, I was absolutely stuffed, but hey, always room for more dessert. I found the apple dessert to be the star here. The warm apple slices were super comforting at the end of a fabulous meal. Overall, the plating for all the dishes were very well put together. They had enough pizzazz to wow you, but didn't excessively put useless ingredients since everything was still edible, and could play some role in the flavor combination. This place was truly the worst and I would give it 0 stars if possible. Came here for a wedding after party around 10pm on Saturday night. There were hardly any other people there. Over half of our group was not allowed in, including the BRIDE, for allegedly being "too intoxicated". No one in our group was drunk and no one was acting obscene or out of hand in any way shape or form. Even a few of the people that could get in they wouldn't serve for the same reason. The whole thing was so incredibly bizarre and the whole staff was rude and off putting. You'd think on a Saturday night during what seemed to be a slow season for them, they'd want the business. I went to both the casual meatball emporio on the first floor and the more fancy restaurant on the second floor. First floor- 1 star. probably the most disgusting meatballs I've ever had. Huge, dry, and flavorless. I got the spicy marinara sauce which tasted like watery pasta sauce and pesto cream which was just tasted like tasteless cream, no pesto flavor at all. Pretty bad. Second floor restaurant was delicious though! I don't normally like gnocchi but this one was so soft and delicious with mushroom, basil and corn. We almost ordered a second! Pizza was piping hot and good as well. Our waiter recommended the farro salad. I was skeptical thinking how good can those grains be.. I was pleasantly surprised how bright and flavorful it was! Great experience hosting a rehearsal dinner at Sienna Mercato. Emily the event coordinator was easy to work with and was very responsive. The second floor room was a good size for our party of 42 and they set it up nicely with lots of room for socializing. We chose the Zapphire package which had a good variety and they we ok with making sure it was nut free and we had some vegan options. The food was very good and we had plenty. The chefs choice dessert was ok, not one of your typical desserts. I cant wait to go back for dinner in the future. read more

My friends and I went to sienna for a girls night out. We did not realized the kitchen closed at 7pm. The server advised us to go to the lower level and order food to bring upstairs to eat. Once we did that, we were tapped on the shoulder by a bouncer who stated "you cannot eat here!" We thought he was joking as we were told by a staff member to order food and bring it upstairs. The bouncer then told us that we needed to go downstairs and finish our food before coming back up. Frustrated, we requested to speak to a manager to discuss the miscommunication between staff. We witnessed the same bouncer talking about us to all of the other staff. The manager stated that we needed to finish our food downstairs but would give us a free round of drinks once coming upstairs. Once we finished our food, we returned upstairs and was greeted by a new bouncer who stated "I heard about you, we don't owe you anything". The whole experience was handled so poorly and I have not had worst customer service. I have since sent an email to the company to discuss the poor service and have not heard back. Had to place orders at the bar because it was nearly impossible to get the server's attention. Great place to meet friends for drinks and a bite! Came here recently for a friend's birthday get together. We started upstairs on the rooftop. There was some sort of corporate event happening on the roof so it was very packed for a Tuesday evening, but the setting was otherwise calm. I dined on the second floor, which is more upscale Italian food, on a second occasion and really enjoyed the Peach pizza. It was the mixing of two flavors that otherwise shouldn't be together. It was absolutely delicious and would recommend to anyone! Finally, I dined on the bottom floor, which is Emporio. It was pretty packed the evening I went but the service was excellent and the food was even better. Everyone at our table had a great time and we cannot wait to be back! We started at the bar on the ground floor before we were looking for a more substantial menu so we moved up to Mercato (second floor). We usually prefer sitting at the bar so we requested the bar when we were directed to the chef's counter. The chef came out and greeted us and explained menu pairings and some of the items we may not have been familiar with. Bartender made my wife a Manhattan which she raved about, The chef started us with a custom appetizer which had a variety of flavors and textures (braised pork belly, scallop and trumpet mushroom on a small bed of greens) all locally sourced. We each had a different salad and both were fantastic. I had a shrimp dish and my wife had scallops which we both thought were wonderful. We were in Pittsburgh for a Supernatural convention and wanted to try something new. We have spent quite a bit of time in the City. When a "meatball place" was recommended, we weren't sure but wanted to give it a chance. My daughter ordered a chicken, while hubby & I got regular meatballs. We always share. Let me start off by saying first and foremost I understand Covid protocols. We're honestly glad the hospitality industry is able to start running again. We had a 7pm reservation here, and immediately upon our arrival, the host told us we had a time limit at our table until 9pm. Ok awesome, until it then took that same host (not our waiter) 16 minutes to come for our drink and appetizer orders. Once we received our first round and apps, we had to go to the bar and ask for silverware and plates. Apps were great, we got the meatball sampler, cheesy bread, and fried pickles. Only took us 15 more minutes to get the extra ranch we asked for with ordering. Drink wise, the grapefruit and peach mules were a good consistency, but the Manhattans ordered were lacking any strength and were watered down. Our waiter then comes around 8pm to ask for our food orders, we decided to get one of each of the four pizzas. I will say ALL of the pizzas were great. I do suggest those. Not greasy, great flavor, etc. we all were happy with those. The host then comes at 8:30pm to let us know we have a half hour left. We ordered a last round that we still did not receive though. He then brings us the checks and they are all messed up, but we just paid since we felt so hurried. Last round finally comes, we're all paid up, but we clearly want to finish the last round since we're trying to have a good evening and not feel completely rushed. Then we finish around 9:15pm, late from our "assigned leave time." So we basically rushed through for nothing since there was barely a line waiting downstairs to come up. Regardless, food wise, Sienna Mercato definitely delivered, we just wish the service was as personable and efficient as well. This will be the first and last time we visit this restaurant. We met family members here for dinner from out of state That we hadn't seen in quite some time. To start things off, it took at least 15 minutes for our waitress to even approach our table after we were seated to say hello, bring water, order drinks, etc. 30 minutes later, we finally received our drinks. When we went to order our meals, we were then informed that the restaurant had no bread at all; no dough for pizza. Keep in mind that this restaurant's specialty is wood fired pizzas! At that point, we should have gotten up and left but we didn't want to try and find another place at 8pm. We should have. By 9:15pm, we still had no food, 9:30, our food finally started to come out, which took at least 15 more minutes to deliver everyone's plates. Most of the meals had no flavor, the crab cakes were very greasy, the short ribs had to be sent back, the pasta was tasteless. The sea bass and mussels were the only dishes out of 10 plates that were even eaten. We called the manager over and explained our frustration and he agreed to take one meal off the bill completely, which did not even happen once we received the bill. He did apologize and slightly discount the bill (no where near what should have been compensated) but could give us no reason as to why everything was terrible. We were beyond disappointed and definitely will not be returning. read more

When our Chefs Selection was brought to our table, we were presented with what was on the board and what to expect. Really appreciated that, the board can be a little intimidating. Foodwise, I have had: Meatball panini with dipping sauce - probably the better item versus the other below choices. Reason being is that the sandwich must be pressed in a panini press, forcing out a hot sandwich. Still hungry after having this. 3.5 stars. Meatballs over pasta (Saucy Balls with pasta option). Meatballs taste okay with the spicy meatballs having the most flavor. Meatballs in all visits are never hot and lukewarm at best. 2.5 stars Tater tots: good. Crunchy and crispy. A surprisingly good spot for vegetarians! We went for a Friday lunch and it was quite crowded and lively. The first floor is the restaurant and the upper floor is I believe a bar/rooftop patio. Sadly it was closed that day but I've heard excellent things! You can only order food on the first floor, but can order drinks throughout the restaurant. The menu is all meatball-based but extremely customizable. You can choose number, bowl or sandwich, type of meatball, and sauce. At 7 pm on a weeknight, many of the restaurants on the Strip, including Sienna Mercato, had a handful of patrons - I wonder if this is typical for downtown Pittsburgh? Sienna Mercato's ground floor has an upscale sports bar feel, with a fast-casual type menu (with a set of numbered, step-by-step instructions to build your own meatball-based dish), but is a full service restaurant. Hope you like meatballs, because the menu primarily involves meatballs with sauce, meatball grinders, meatball sliders, or meatballs on spaghetti. I had the wedding soup with a veg-ball (made of mushrooms and soy), which was served on the side. The veg-ball was rather dry, so luckily I could dunk it in the soup. It was definitely my least favorite "meat"ball of the night. I then ordered a set of four saucy meatballs - one each of traditional beef, chicken, spicy pork, and the special meatball of the day, which happened to be breakfast sausage and pork. The special was my favorite - the most flavorful in my opinion, followed by the spicy pork. Overall, the texture of the meatballs was ok - not stick-a-fork-in-it-falling-apart goodness that I've experienced at higher-end restaurants, but at Sienna Mercato's casual price point, it was fine. The creamy basil marinara sauce was delish. Each meatball was quite large, so that I couldn't finish my meal, and had some leftovers to box up. Service was friendly and the food came out quickly. Sienna Mercato is the go to bar for nice evenings. I always send friends from out of town here! I love the rooftop bar, you can't beat the view. However, that's about all I love about this place. The food selection on the rooftop bar is minimal, mostly bar food - like Jerky, and small snacks (not burgers, or anything like that) I wish that the restaurant allowed food from the other 2 floors to be brought upstairs. I'm a wine drinker, for $10 you get a tiny mediocre wine, but that's an expected price for downtown! They have mixed drinks, and a pretty nice beer selection as well. I've been to Sienna Mercato a number of times, and always had a great experience. A couple weeks ago a few friends of mine were downtown later than usual on a Saturday and came to the rooftop. I was surprised about how lively the space was. I had always assumed no one even came downtown on the weekends. It was pretty packed. There was a couple minute wait for the elevator, but waiting for an elevator inside is much better than waiting outside in the cold. It was a good night out. Drinks were pretty good as well. Cringe worthy experience from the moment we walked in the door. I've never had to address a hostess before, considering that's their job, but once we got their attention they truly acted like we were bothering them. Our waitress had the same attitude, like we were annoying her by being in her section. I can't even use names because no one introduced themselves, let alone smiled. The aforementioned two females also got into a verbal altercation with a patron for wanting to go check the rooftop bar out. SO UNCOMFORTABLE TO OVERHEAR and incredibly, so incredibly unprofessional. She threatened to get the manager to this patron, so I could only imagine the worst of people coming out that "manages" these people and allows them to treat people this way. I work in the medical field and I guarantee you if I spoke to my patients the way anyone treated us last night, we would've been written up. To top the evening off, we figured we'd go get drinks on the rooftop-MISTAKE. The bartender could not have been more unfriendly...as we were leaving a staff member was pushing a garbage cart which hit my date and he didn't even apologize or acknowledge. All I know is you're lucky my date is in the service industry and tips well, because you would've all been getting what I got, the painful bare minimum. They had a location in Wexford that I frequented and loved...but if you're gonna have miserable, argumentative staff, I guess downtown is the place where ghetto and unprofessional cringe worthy attitudes are condoned and encouraged.
