    I had been itching to try this new restaurant since it opened in the Courtyard Marriott. The location of the dim sum restaurant is a little bizarre but it was popping off on Saturday night and the location kind of added to its appeal. We were seating immediately upon arrival and our server was prompt with our drink orders and walking us through the menu since it was our first time. We ordered a buuuunch of stuff to share. Our favorite dishes were the Cheung Fun (crispy shrimp and the vegetable), Chasiu Bao, Xiao Long Bao, but we really enjoyed everything we ordered. For dessert we tried both the lava and custard bao. They were both tasty but the lava bao was so unique. Not savory but not super sweet either. This was our first time having dim sum and we really loved it. The friends we went with have tried dim sum all over Houston and said this was the best they had ever had in the city. Looking forward to our next visit.

    This is clearly an unassuming place (frankly an understatement as you read the rest of my review and see the photos); located inside of an easily-passed-by hotel on Westpark (which I've passed by 40 times and never seen this not-near-the-street hotel). Upon entering the hotel, I was immediately greeted by a hotel staff member who then directed me to the restaurant where I could request a seat. The restaurant looks like a lobby restaurant in a motel - definitely not fancy - one that I've skipped most morning where a free breakfast came with your stay. I was immediately seated and the server came by to ask me what I wanted to drink. They don't serve coffee (my preference), but they do serve tea. Ample parking. My favorite dish was the Chive Dumplings. Shrimp in a blanket was also excellent. The long bao was very good per my friend. The fried rice was average no better than any non-greasy fried rice you'd get in a decent chines restaurant. The service was outstanding and the server clearly knew the menu and made suggestions upon request.

    One million percent stop here! The most delicious dim sum I've ever had and I'm from CA where we have so many places but this was the best. Surprising location as it was inside a hotel but cute place. Everything was amazing not just good. Even the teas! Order a bit of everything and you won't be disappointed. The service was great and they made the best recommendations.

    The service here was honestly spectacular, the gentleman that took care of our group on the day we came in was perfect for the role. He understood that for the uninitiated that the cuisine they work in can seem daunting at worst and unfamiliar at best, and he really made sure to bring an assurance to the dishes that were a bit different to American palates. The staff as a whole were dressed quite sharply, black slacks and button up collared shirt with ties, and it really classed up the whole situation. Back to the food, the majority of the menu has your standard dim sum staples that are crowd pleasers all around. The charsiu boa was extra pillowy and the filling was distinct and held up against all the bao. The siu mai and other dumplings stayed intact and all had flavorful filling and clean presentation. They set the table with a house made black vinegar and chili oil to accompany the small bites, and it was something unique feeling versus a big pot of kikoman like some spots do. Along with the faves they do some outside the box too, see the pictures in the review, but even the adventurous choices all tasted great. The location is the last thing I'll mention, because it is notable. Yes it is in a Courtyard Marriott, no it is not a weird as it sounds. They have a desk in the front of the lobby to welcome you before you have to wander the hotel, and once your seated the space is separate enough as to not being worth thinking about as you dine.

    This was a recommended dim-sum spot and was a bit overdue for us to try it out. The location is really weird. The GPS took us inside a parking lot of a Courtyard Marriot; what the?!!! It looks like they turned the continental breakfast buffet area of the Marriot into a full on full service restaurant. Extremely odd setup for the hotel guests and the restaurant go'ers. Service was impressive. It was probably the best service in a Chinese restaurant that I've seen. The menu comprises of dim sum and some more Canto style dishes. The price point seems higher than a Fung's or similar dim sum spot. We ordered a bunch of their shareables and I think the general feedback was that everything tasted good and probably made in house but not fantastic. Fung's has the better dim sum (since they are probably the closest well known dim sum spot) and variety and old school cart ambiance but Silk Road has the service.

    After quite a few recommendations, I decided to bring my boyfriend's family to Silk Road last night for us to all try their dim sum menu. When we arrived, the courtyard Marriott was a packed parking lot. We were able to snag a spot of someone who was leaving. The check in desk for Silk Road is right next to the check in desk for the hotel. We were a walk in and they were able to accommodate our group of 5 with no wait. There was a very loud performer playing in their bar area. He was pretty good, but we welcomed his set breaks so we could converse. Noah, our server, was awesome. He helped me pick fun dishes and a good amount of food for our party. We started with the chrysanthemum Tea, which was delicious and caffeine free. We ordered a variety of dishes, but the ones we liked the most were the Cheng fun crispy shrimp, the chicken puff, the xo sauce fried rice, the xiao long bao, the bbq pork buns, the egg custard and the off menu mango sago. I personally didn't love the beef noodle dish we ordered. Everyone else was really tasty. I would easily come back to eat more. The only other thing we didn't love was a sneaky "large group" auto gratuity on the toast receipt at check out. I typically don't call 5 people a large group. 6-8 people I can understand. Fortunately, we saw it and were able to adjust accordingly. I typically prefer to tip out of the kindness, not it being mandatory.

    Looks like Marriott is bringing higher end restaurants to some of their lower end properties. Silk Road on Westpark nestle inside of a Courtyard. It is a very good concept to up the value of the property and where patrons don't need to leave the hotel to have a good meal. For me I couldn't have many of the dishes as I was trying to lower my carbs, but the family wanted to come here so I went, figured Id find something and I did, the hot & sour soup was delicious. I could have order bowl after bowl of this. There were other options, but didn't realize it as I didn't notice they had a special's menu that had some items I could have ordered until after we were done. My family seemed to really enjoy the soup dumplings as they ordered multiple rounds of it. They also enjoyed the mushroom bao. The tea was very good as well.

    Not knowing what to expect for an "Asian Tapas" restaurant in an unassuming hotel, we were pleasantly surprised with a delicious and fun meal-- 4.5/5 stars! Definitely pricey for the portion size (tiny and delicate) and dim sum, but everything was tasty and fresh. The interior was slightly on the more modern side and clean. Service was also great-- everyone was really friendly and seemed to enjoy being there. Our waiter, Tyler, seemed pretty knowledgeable about the menu. Favorites were the: - custard buns (creamy sweetness), - chive dumplings (chives and shrimp tucked within thin delicate wrappers), and - char siu pork buns (flavorful and sweet... but not too sweet! And not an off putting shade of pink or red). Also enjoyed the lava buns (a really good salted egg yolk flavor) and crispy shrimp cheung fun rice noodle roll (like a delicate tempura shrimp inside-- not only delicious but made it much easier to pick up!). Mushroom buns were fun to see in person since they looked so realistic, and the inside was an almost creamy mushroom mixture. Yum! My least favorite was actually Tyler's favorite menu item-- the Jenga radish cake. It's a spin on the traditional panfried luo bo gao; they cut the pieces into logs, fry them, and stack them up. The outside is extra crispy, and the inside is creamy and soft (too mushy for me, I like the slight bite of the OG version!). We're also not fans of bacon, and I think they used that instead of Chinese sausage. The XO sauce had a slight kick to it with a bit of that mala numbingness. Still tasty overall and fun to try, but I prefer the classic! Parking was super easy in front the hotel. Overall, the food is tasty and more on the delicate side. I appreciate the kitchen team trying to make traditional dishes a little more fun :D It won't be in the regular rotation as dim sum for two went over the $100 after tip (yikes), but we'll be coming back some evening in the future to try those noodles and more of the menu when the cravings hit!

    I went here for my birthday. The restaurant is inside a small hotel. Very unassuming. Wait staff is super nice. The food was very good. Definitely a splurge for dim sum but I wanted to try it out. We got all the staples. Ha gao, siu mai, veggie cheung fun, xiao long bao, baby bok choy, lava bao. We received complementary egg custard tarts. The siu mai was the only thing that wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. Overall, still a very nice experience.

    Truly top notch dim sum in an unassuming location. I thought Apple Maps took me to the wrong place when I pulled up to the Courtyard Marriott Hotel. The Silk Road signs at the entrance helped! And the gracious ladies at the hotel's front desk were extremely welcoming and helpful in pointing me to the right place. The dining room is attractive, boasting the clean, simple vibe of modern Japanese restaurants. I ordered my "usuals": Cheung Fun with Crispy Shrimp, Har Gow, and Fried Turnip Cake. All three were delicious and perfect rivaling those at my favorite dim sum places. But what blew me away was the Chef's Special: Abalone Tart. Oh. My. Goodness. The tart crust was a buttery short crust filled with roasted duck in a lovely velvety sauce and topped with a piece of abalone that had an amazing smoky flavor. It was an absolute triumph! This place would be perfection if it added Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf to the menu :) I will definitely be back!

    My friends and I tried out Silk Road for Houston Restaurant Week and it was good overall. I tried their Xiao Long Bao, steamed dim sum trio, hand pulled noodles with chili oil, and mango pudding. While everything was just good, the mango pudding was outstanding and the ripe mango flavor was delicious while being not overly sweet. Off the HRW menu, we also tried their mushroom bao. It was very realistic looking of actual mushrooms and the mushroom flavor was nice. They were busy for dinner time on the day we went, and while the staff was very friendly you could tell they were struggling to keep up. The restaurant is located in a Marriott hotel, which was a bit of a unique location, but parking was plentiful. Good place to try at least once.

    Food - solid dimsum that you can find in the loop in houston, they are planning to expand their menu in the next few months. Recommend the crispy shrimp rice roll, soup dumplings, turnip cake. Price is definitely slightly higher priced and could be priced lower and better given the portion.     I visited here with small group on a busy Sunday with no reservations and was still able to be seated....just at the bar area with a view of the pool...at a tiny little table. They offer made from scratch dim sum with homemade chili oil and have really good service. We tried the 1st four menu items (Cheung Fun with Crispy Shrimp. Sui Mai, Har gow, and xlb), with Stir-fried Noodles with beef, and Custard Bao. We also tried the Lemongrass Pandan Butterfly Tea. We then added a 2nd order of custard bun and a bbq pork bun. I found the custard bao to be pretty pricy at $10 for 2. However, it's high quality and you can taste the real vanilla, unlike the standard custard buns at other dim sum places. Chung Fun w Crispy Shrimp - probably my favorite due to the taste and texture and highly recommend. Stir fried noodles - really good and flavorful but if you're sharing with 4 people you won't get a lot as it comes on a small plate. Sui Mai- I thought it was pretty standard Har gow - same as above, pretty standard. Xlb - these are really good, but kind of small. You receive 5 in an order. Bbq Pork Bun - interesting and sweet with the sugar dough-pineapple bun, but good. Homemade chili oil and vinegar - I liked their chili oil a lot, as did the rest of my party. Tea - starts off blueish, then white, then purple. Interesting science involved here. However, I'm more interested in taste with my tea and I would have stuck with jasmine or tried a different one next time. Although our group had a view of the pool area, I would like to return and sit in the main dining area next time to get the larger table.

    It's part of a hotel so I would assume so for lunch. I cannot say for dinner time crowd. It's definitely more expensive than the dim sum restaurants in Bellaire. I wouldn't be offended but I also have kids.

Please do not leave without giving those two a try! You can skip the pan fried pork & chives dumplings. That was a letdown. I think food wise, I prefer Fung's Kitchen over Ocean Palace. We ordered a variety of dishes including the Crab Meat Wontons, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Chef's Special Chow Mein, Spicy Chinese Wine Clams, Steamed Chao Mai Shrimp & Pork Dumplings, BBQ Pork Buns, and Golden Egg Yolk Lava Buns. Overall, the food was good, but a few items had an off-putting texture, some were unusually chewy or a bit gummy, which took away from the experience. The service was good and attentive throughout the visit. However, the pricing, especially for the lobster, felt a bit high compared to other well-known high-end seafood spots. One of the more disappointing parts of the experience was dealing with multiple flies constantly buzzing around our table while we were eating. It made it hard to fully enjoy the meal. Overall, I did enjoy parts of the experience, but there are definitely areas that could be improved.

The colorful green fried rice looked unique, but honestly just tasted like regular fried rice. The shaking beef dish looked amazing presentation-wise, but the sauce was too sweet for a savory dish, and the crispy rice pairing just didn't work well for me. I initially thought the duck dish was Peking duck, but it was actually the Jasmine Tea Smoked Duck. Even so, everyone at my table agreed we still preferred the traditional Peking duck style. The duck itself lacked flavor for us, and the skin was soft instead of having the crisp texture we were hoping for. The only dishes I genuinely enjoyed were the soup dumplings, cucumber salad, and fried dumplings. Most of the other dishes at the table were barely touched. If you're looking for colorful, aesthetically pleasing food and great presentation, you may enjoy this place. But if flavor is your main priority, this spot just wasn't for me personally.

Sadly, it seems like those days are long gone as the latter is on a downhill slope. Has ownership changed? (#1) I'm not sure, but so much else has. There's no tea offered, but bottled water. Service and the kitchen staff is a mess where it's most evident during their busiest hours. At one point, Cantonese was spoken but it also seems that's no longer the case. Previously the food was passable, but now it's near abysmal. Siu mai was hearty, but fairly bland. The same applies to their spare ribs (排骨), beef balls (牛肉球), and steamed glutinous rice in leaf (糯米雞). I felt their custard buns (奶黃包), fried stuffed crab claw (釀蟹鉗), fried glutinous dumpling (鹹水角) and the turnip cake (蘿蔔糕) were dried out. While the shrimp dumplings (蝦餃) and rice rolls (腸粉) mostly passed the test, it needed lots of soy sauce + condiments to be worth it. The only winner was their beef chow fun (乾炒牛河), where the beef and ho fun noodles were tender, while also being adequately greasy. The bonus bits of fried egg within were a nice surprise. While the prices range from $3.75-$9.70, a majority of it will average out to be $5-6 a dish. This isn't a terrible deal per se, especially during these times. However, it is a big price to pay for service issues and sub-par quality dim sum. Don't be fooled by its English name, you will not be eating Shanghainese food here: this is a traditional Cantonese restaurant. In typical Chinese American fashion, we had the "adult" table and of course we sat at the "kids" table. We ordered the classics as pictured. The food is always tasty and consistent. Service is friendly and the even though this spot is no frills, it is a familiar place with a very family-centered atmosphere. You can not go wrong with old reliable. If you are ever craving authentic, traditional Cantonese cooking without the large, dim sum hybrid model, I definitely recommend this place. It was four of us so we ordered: Hot & Sour Soup, Beef with Bitter Mellon, Beef Flat Rice Noodle (dry), Cantonese Sweet & Sour Pork (with pineapple) I was impressed how silky and tender the beef was. The sweet & sour was perfect lightly battered and crispy. The hot & sour could've been a bit more sour but had a small kick to it. It was perfect for my parents, but my husband and I had to add some chili oil & soy sauce for more flavor. The quality of the food 9/10, the price was a bit on the pricey side for the portions of the dishes. The hot & sour soup was $17! It wasn't anything special about it. I thought it was a bit steep for a family size, but I guess good service made up for it. I'm not sure if they were offering Chinese New Year specials, but within an hour there were several big parties with reservations. I recommend this place for authentic Cantonese Chinese food. It's rare to find good food and good service!

The portions are also appropriate for their price. Service is incredibly quick, and you can order as you go and receive your dish within 10-15 minutes, regardless of how busy they are. On my most recent visit we ordered mapo tofu with pork intestines off the specials menu - a hybrid of two of my favorite Sichuan-style dishes. The blend of bouncy, savory morsels amidst tender, saucy tofu was at once revolutionary and so obvious; why hadn't I yet seen this at any other restaurant? And sure, innards may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's important for you to know that none of my past orders from the 50+ item menu have ever failed me, whether enjoyed in the restaurant or at home. Maybe you'd prefer the aromatic, classic, perfectly balanced three-cup chicken? Or the sweet-skinned duck, glazed so delicately that specks of sugar crystal threaten to jump off onto the plate as you pick up a juicy slice with your chopsticks? And if you're vegetarian, might you consider the punchy garlic eggplant or the wok-kissed string beans? I could go on. Do yourself a favor and come see for yourself, though I'd recommend parallel parking on the neighborhood streets behind the restaurant rather than the rocky parking lot, to save you some trouble. Bring friends and chow down family style - you'll need help covering as much of the menu as you can, but you'll definitely have to come back to try everything.
