Wanted to try this fairly new restaurant because I love Asian food and dim sum. Upon arriving, I was greeted by cheerful and friendly hostesses that seated me right away. It was Thursday and of course the place was packed. The ceiling was the main design attraction with beautiful art work. As for my waiter, I won't say his name because his performance wasn't to par but he definitely tried his best, in my opinion. I feel that the lack of service was due to a table that demanded most of his time. As for the food, I love soup dumpling but know that it's very hard to perfect. And if you know soup dumpling, it's hard to make them without the wrap being too thick to hold the soup inside. In this case, the dumpling exterior was on the thick side. But the flavor of the soup inside was good with a spicy kick to it. The lobster dumpling is a must have. It was perfect in flavor and texture. The crispy Wagyu beef roll was not what I had expected. It was recommended to me by our waiter and I was not please with it and would not recommend it at all. To be honest, it was more on the dry side. The rock shrimp was decent and the crab wonton was so hot on the inside that it burned my tongue. So I have no clue what it tasted like. With all those small bites, I was getting pretty full. So I chose the BBQ pork rib as my main entree. I asked for a side of white rice to eat with it. The rib was average. The flavor was mid and the moistness wasn't there. And of course, I had to try their dessert. The waiter recommended the dessert. I hate when they do not give you the menu so you can read the dessert description but instead tells you what your options are. And because it was so loud in there, I just agreed with his suggestion. But I requested for the fortune cookie because I felt it would look cool to see a huge fortune cookie as a dessert. Well, the dessert he recommended was an ice cream that looked like a mandarin or orange. The inside was a popsicle flavor ice cream. And the fortune cookie dessert did not look like a fortune cookie. It was a waffle cone shaped in what is suppose to be a fortune cookie. Anyways, even though this place is considered fine dining, in my opinion, the noise level was like a bar. It was super loud. I went to Maison Chinoise with a friend for my birthday on a Saturday night. It was storming, so parking was already hectic, but thankfully we had a reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant was extremely busy -- almost overwhelmingly so. It was very loud, to the point where it felt like everyone was yelling over each other. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're looking for a romantic dinner or even a place to have a real conversation. It was pretty overstimulating. The tables for two are also very small, which makes it a bit frustrating if you like to order multiple dishes to share. That said, the service was great. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive despite how packed it was, and all of the staff were really kind. For food, we started with the crispy crab wontons, which were good -- nice crunch, well-balanced filling, and not overly stuffed. The spicy pork wontons had good flavor, but I'm not the biggest pork fan. The standout appetizer was definitely the lamb lollipops -- super tender with a really flavorful spice powder on the side. For entrées, we ordered the Peking duck (half). The duck itself was tender and flavorful, but the portion was pretty small for two people. We also had the honey walnut shrimp, which started off good but had an artificial aftertaste that threw it off. The dan dan noodles were solid -- good flavor and spice. My husband and I came here for his birthday dinner and the ambiance, styling, and vibes of this place is truly beautiful! They have a happy hour from 3-6 which I think is a nice choice for cheaper cocktails and bites. Food for us was a hit or miss. Peking duck was delicious and the wagyu truffle fried rice was great too. The other dishes to us were honestly just not wow or amazing. The menu looked great and we were excited but we were disappointed in the dim sum sampler, wok fried fish special, crab rangoons, and Sichuan lamb lollipops. Overall just either the flavor was missing or it seemed too oily. The price is a premium so we had high expectations of the menu and food and it just didn't hit the mark for us personally. When this place first opened up, I came in to look for a spot at the bar, but it seemed a bit of a hot mess, so I decided to give it a week for them to work the kinks out. I'm glad I did because now, it looks and feels a lot smoother. The bar area is a good place to grab a bite and reservations seem effortless; there's also usually a good crowd for people watching. Service is good and food comes out fast and tasty. Prices of course are much higher than if your in China town area but we're in the River Oaks area so there will be an increase in normal fare. With that said I would consider the prices reasonable for the portion size you get. The menu is quite extensive and a lot of really good choices. Items I could recommend or are worth a try is the Crispy Rock Shrimp, spicy basil aioli, jalapeño aoli. Lettuce Cups with Organic Chicken jicama, celery, mixed bell peppers. Iberico Pork Wonton Soup chicken broth, pork. Pan-Fried Organic Chicken Buns and from the main entree General Tso's Wilf Caught Salmon baby bok choy, sugar peas, lotus roots, mixed bell peppers. These were all tasty options but I also thought the menu had a lot more good choices too. I guess the only reason i didn't give it my normal 5 stars is that I thought for the area, the design aesthetic could have been more creative and could and should be able to wow us better. Thoroughly delightful! The restaurant is gorgeous! Upon entering, theres a patio area with lots of natural light. I made a reservation and was seated after a short wait of less than five minutes. Our server Neil created such a fun, enjoyable dining experience. He thoroughly explained each section of the menu, while listening to what we like and making recommendations. He was very attentive and made our first dining experience very special. The Aloe can you go cocktail was very tasty but the star of the show was the Lychee luck! I once took a breadmaking class from Peter Reinhardt and he prefaced the class by saying "you know anyone can make good bread but my intention with this class is to teach you how to make spectacular bread". If something about it sets it apart from what we would find on Bellaire Boulevard (for less money). Update: Doggie bagged everything not eaten. Microwaved the General Tso for dinner. It was godawful. Green beans, wife comment on these, (actually everything I brought home) "Salty". So, my final comment would be, get something else on the menu besides these two Sino-American classics. I hate paying for parking or for valet parking when I dine out. Houston spread out. There shouldn't be any need to have to pay for parking. Now, if you're on a date you're gonna have to be extorted for this because you don't want to seem cheap for your date, but for persons who dine out for the dining experience and there's plenty of space, give me a break. Don't make me pay for parking. Do I do it? Yeah of course you have to. But when I can go to Bellaire Boulevard and park for free well that's just one more thing that makes me less likely to come to eat at the River Oaks shopping center. But if you don't mind walking a little bit, there is free parking in the parking garage. So you could drop off the guests traveling with you and then go park and then walk over yourself. First off, absolutely beautiful interior. At lunchtime, extremely tranquil. Wait staff, super friendly and knowledgeable. Open viewing of the kitchen, so I got to see the ducks roasting away. Definitely must come back for their signature Beijing duck. But today a little bit of what they are proud of and then some traditional dishes just to see how they do them. So I should start with the chef's special assortment of four dim sum, followed by a classic hot and sour soup and then we will see what I want go with for entrées. Dim sum sampler? Excellent. As good as I've ever had. Four delicious, perfectly prepared morsels. Recommended. Uncle Roger would say "Fuiyo!h! Hot and sour soup? Really heavy soy sauce flavor profile. Jiu Fu (and a few others I could mention) on Bellaire has them beat. Kind of unpleasant, but some might say that this style is not atypical of some regions of China. I don't know. But me no like. Thick broth. "Soy sauce soup". The special non alcohol lychee fizz cocktail. Wow. That's a lot of ice. Gotta let it melt for awhile or there will just be an ounce or two of drink to consume. Tasty though. Might order it again. Maybe. For entrees I went with classic Sino-American kung pao chicken and General Tso's chicken (just for fun). I know it will be better than Panda Garden, obviously (organic chicken is used). And I ordered green beans. Beans too salty for my personal taste. Dittto General Tso. But that is my personal taste. Good crunch from being freshly made. Ketchup taste in the flavor profile. Beautiful presentation. Gloppy sauce on the kung pao also. More salty than is my personal taste. Respect to this whole question of authenticity versus "did I like it?" comes into play here. For me, personally, the kung pao would have been just fine if they used half the oil in the stir fry. Maison Chinoise delivers a really solid, elevated Chinese dining experience with bold flavors and thoughtful execution. We tried a variety of dishes and overall were impressed. Weirdly obsessed with their velvet walls!! Service was also 10/10. Waiter was attentive and the manager checked in with us to make sure everything came out accordingly! The lobster dumplings absolutely stole the show with the delicate wrappers, generous lobster filling, and perfectly balanced flavor. Easily the best dish of the night and a must-order. The Sichuan dumplings brought a nice kick with their numbing spice and rich sauce, while the smoked BBQ had great depth and smokiness that felt refined rather than overpowering with fall of the bones tenderness. I walked in a week ago with a sense of excitement, curious and adventurous. Lindsay left me with a sense of emptiness and embarrassment. I was informed about this place from a gentleman at Cocodys (across the street) after an event. She didn't even give me a menu to view for me to even pique interest if I want to return. I felt very unwelcome by Manager Lindsay As a manager you want to leave a positive impression to create the feeling of an inviting back. They still had folks mingling and drinking. Verses Cocodys was cleaning, and I was greeted sweetly with sincere and offered to view a menu. Because once I heard French I was not expecting to return so quickly. I came back less than 72 hours later to break bread at their location for my Halloween birthday. Maison Chinoise, had me asking was it my attire? Which I wasn't clear on the answer. Due to this (you need to leave now energy). As if their were closed and it was a construction site that required a hardhat and steel toe boots. This is a newly opened high end Chinese restaurant in Houston, with possibly the best tasting Peking duck I've had outside of China. We ordered the Wagyu fried rice (amazing), Iberico wonton soup (great flavors), the chili prawns (great), and a full order of the Peking duck. The duck meat was succulent and flavorful, the crepes were made to perfection, and the sides/sauces went perfectly with the duck. The cocktails were delicious, the ambiance was immaculate (we got a great view of both the bar and the kitchen), and the service was fantastic. Our toddler accidentally knocked down a pair of chopsticks and someone magically appeared with brand new chopsticks within seconds. We got great recommendations, they checked on us often, gave us a refresh of the crepes and sides, and helped us box up the leftovers when it was all said and done. These gorgeous Chinese restaurant is located in the heart of River Oaks, and it is such a beautiful restaurant, your eyes will not be able to stop admiring the beautiful set up they have. For parking, they have valet, but you can also park yourself and and pay through your phone. There are several signs around with the QR code for payment. Reservations are highly recommended, to ensure you get a spot. They have patio seating, beautifully decorated with glass of walls to protect you from the weather. They also have bar seating in the main dining room. The food is outstanding, everything that we try was delicious. We came to celebrate my bday and we got the Pan Fried Wagyu Beef pot stickers for appetizer and Dim Sum. For main entrées, we got Wagyu Truffle Fried Rice, Duck Fried Rice, General Tsao Chicken and Black Pepper Filet Mignon. They have excellent service, the staff is very knowledgeable, and if it's your first time here they can guide you and help you navigate the menu so you can make the best choice. I am a little torn between giving this place 3 or 4 stars. Overall, it was a good experience, but it felt overpriced for what we received. I understand that this restaurant is located in one of the most expensive retail centers in the city, but $250 for four drinks, two soups, tea, and two sides felt a bit over the top. My husband and I came here to celebrate my birthday. The service and staff were excellent, but by the end of the meal I still felt a little ripped off. I also wouldn't necessarily call the food authentic Chinese cuisine. It seems like the restaurant group operates several concepts and blends different styles. I haven't been to their other locations, but if you're looking for an upscale atmosphere and don't mind spending a lot of money, this may be the place for you. To start, we ordered a vodka martini, a glass of chardonnay, and the salt and pepper seafood appetizer. The seafood was fresh from the fryer, crunchy, and a good portion for two. The martini was poured a bit low and could have been shaken better. Next came soup. I ordered the hot and sour soup, and my husband had the wonton soup. He enjoyed his wonton soup, but my hot and sour soup tasted slightly burnt, almost like caramelized soy sauce. For the next course we ordered the chef's suggested dim sum, brussels sprouts, and chow mein (no entrée). Everything was good overall, though the portions were small. The dim sum included only four small pieces, the brussels sprouts were a bit too spicy, and the chow mein was just okay. We also ordered a hot citrus tea, which was excellent. If I return, I would probably skip the cocktails, which really boost the bill, and stick with the tea service. For dessert we couldn't decide on anything, so we ordered another vodka soda and a second glass of chardonnay. The bill came out to nearly $250 before a 20% tip. I understand that high-end retail locations come with higher prices, and costs everywhere are rising. However, it still felt excessive, especially considering that two days later we went to our favorite authentic Cantonese BYOB restaurant in Chinatown and had a full family-style meal for eight people for $165. Our server was very nice and checked on us several times during the meal for pleasantries, but our waters were unfortunately never refilled during our stay. The food is good but the portions are extremely small. Highlights included the tofu hummus, the wagyu rolls, and the duck tacos. Be wary - the happy hour menu is only 2 pieces of each. Wanted to love Maison Chinoise but left feeling it was just average. The space is beautiful--upscale decor, nice vibes, very aesthetic. The receptionist was a bit snobby when I asked to sit on the couch area (the place was 90% empty on a Saturday lunch), but our waiter was great--friendly young guy with a great attitude who made up for it. Started with the chef's selection dim sum sampler and the lobster dumpling was the only standout. The red har gow didn't impress, the quail egg siu mai missed the mark--a single quail egg completely overtook the flavor. The pork soup dumpling was a letdown: wrong meat texture, soup base was off, and the skin thickness wasn't right. The crispy wagyu beef roll is basically a dense meatball wrapped in deep-fried rice paper--super crispy but no particular flavor. The black pepper filet mignon was the highlight though--surprisingly tender and really stood out. Chili Szechuan prawns were fine, nothing special but still tasted great (better than certain dim sum items). Ended with the Mandarin Field dessert which was great--impressive presentation with dry ice, a soft light orange-flavored mousse with little chocolate rice crispies for texture. We went to dine here and it was extremely hot and uncomfortable to sit and have the meal. The manager, Lindsay, was extremely rude and unaccommodating. Going so far as to say we were lying about the discomfort. I have never met a less professional individual. This restaurant would serve to do much better without a horrible manager. read more

I've been looking forward to this place opening for months as I'm a huge fan of its next door neighbor B19, and this place didn't disappoint. I was impressed by the service, quality of food, and ambiance. I decided to sit at the bar to have dinner, and Kennedy the bartender was phenomenal. Attentive, but also respectful and relaxed. I started with the Pandan Espresso Martini, which I LOVED. A true classic with a subtle twist with the slight Pandan sweetness. Not too sweet, of course. Then opted for the Way of Xian Wei, their variation of an old fashioned. Same as the espresso martini -- really kept it true to the classic with a subtle twist. Perfect. I'd order both again in the future. Both 5/5. For dinner, I had: Crispy Wagyu Beef Rolls: 5/5. Love the crispy covering. Reminds me of the Vietnamese crispy net spring rolls, a favorite of mine. Grilled Sea Bass: 5/5. Perfectly cooked with a nice crust. The vegetables included were a nice addition. Crispy Golden Prawns: 4/5. Their version of honey walnut shrimp. A tad too rich and sweet for me, but still delicious. Dan Dan Noodles: 4/5. Great flavor with just enough kick and noodles had a nice texture. I really enjoyed my food and the ambience! The service was just okay. Our waiter was nice but not very attentive and the hostess was not very welcoming; she was friendlier with other guests. The Mongolian wagyu beef was spicy and tender. Tasted even better the next day. Truly melted in my mouth! read more

Parking .5 valet was cool otherwise you're in the garage Waiter service 1.5 our server was great and attentive. Explained the menu, gave his suggestions, made sure we were laughing. The manager stopped by to say hello. Food taste/price .5 everything had too much sauce and was a bit salty. Flavor wasn't consistent because one bite was spicy and the next would be tolerable. Ambiance 0 tables too close together and were small for the food. The a/c unit kept dripping on our table. Bathroom was out of paper towels. Overall, I enjoyed being with my friends at a new place. I am usually too lazy to leave a review even if I had a bad experience at a restaurant. I understand businesses need these reviews to survive. However, tonight takes the cake. If you are truly Asian, you would never rate this establishment more than one star. We went with a group of 6. We ordered a variety of different dishes including the duck, short ribs, oxtail soup, soup dumplings, truffle fried rice, chili shrimp etc. We ordered close to $500 worth of food. I cannot say I would recommend a single one. My friend wanted to eat here because she was craving Peking duck. When the duck came out it was luke warm and the duck skin was soft at best. If you eat a lot of Peking duck you know that you want that skin to be as crispy as possible. All the other dishes were super bland and tasteless. The biggest disappointment of the night was the truffle fried rice. I'm sorry but that dish is not made by a chef who knows how to cook fried rice, at least not the type of fried rice Asians would eat anyways. Food aside but our male waiter was horrible. He even forgot we ordered the fried rice and didn't own up to it. He also gave one of my guy friends a dirty bowl without checking whether the bowl was clean. I would never come back here again but I really hope they fix their mistakes or I don't really see this restaurant surviving past next this fall. read more

Food, service, drinks, and ambiance were amazing! Are server had a great personality and was extremely knowledgeable. Cocktails were fun and light. We had the king crab salad and lobster dumplings for an appetizer. Our main course which they urge Judah do family style was the combination fried rice and general tsao's chicken. We skipped on dessert because we didn't have any room but can't wait to come back. It was a great experience. read more
