FINALLY, a restaurant that's. It afraid of flavors -- and spice. I've always loved Silk Road: prices are good, service is on point, and it is legit Mediterranean. They first bring out a flatbread with the most wonderful garlic/herb/oil spread (which is hard not to ask for more of -- it's delicious). This time, I ordered the Greek Salad with SPICY Gyros (for those not into spice, they also have regular Gyros). I'm loving this fish as they're not shy with robust flavors. I am sooo glad I was able to convince my husband to come here tonight. The service and food was great. I ordered the chicken and koubideh combo. Both kabobs were nicely seasoned and cooked well. My husband had ordered the lamb kabob, which was great. He thought it was so good he wanted more, so we asked if he could upgrade his plate to the combo (comes with 2 kabobs instead of one) and they were very happy to let him. My husband is so glad that he did! A few things I want to highlight: Upon arriving, they give you a nice fresh flat bread with an awesome garlic, cucumber, tomato, olive oil, and balsamic dip. It's super nice considering it's free. Drinks are not overpriced here. That's great. It's very clean and has indoor and outdoor seating. They have a nice heater going so you're never freezing. The food is so good I highly recommend getting the kabob combos so that you always get 2! It's much better value too so you won't be sorry you did. I order from this restaurant almost every Saturday. The two male waiters, I feel bad for not knowing their names, are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I love my Greek salad and chicken kabobs! there are a couple of other places I could get my food from but I always order here because these guys never screw up my order and are such pleasant and hard workers....and my food is always delicious! My boyfriend convinced me to get takeout from here during the COVID madness when we were craving Mediterranean and I'll admit I was hesitant given the reviews but they surprised me! I ordered on yelp and picked it up and it was ready by the time I got there. We had the appetizer combo plate, gyro, and koubideh plate. The appetizer combo is a must get. I was shocked by how much pita bread they gave us and the appetizer could've been a meal in itself! The plate was also delicious, nice flavor and good lots of meat. The gyro was my least favorite of the three but I'd still order it again, it was tasty and very large. The meal could've been split between 3 or 4..we ate 3/4 of it and I was a beached whale after (worth it though). My only complaint is that i was very thirsty after so they must use a lot of salt. Used to be excellent spot with $5 appetizers and drinks. Apparently no more full liquor license, so they only have beer and wine that was only the beginning. Service was slow, very friendly. The first thing that I ordered, the salmon appetizer, they were out of. Per waiter suggestion, ordered shrimp instead, for the suggestion of the waiter and i mt was just okay. Good place, after hooking up two close friends of mine, they wanted to treat my boyfriend and I out to drinks/dinner to thank me for getting them together. What can you say, I guess I should start up my own matchmaking business! The amibiance was perfect for a warm Saturday evening and we dined outside. The waitstaff, while really busy, was still very helpful and even took down the umbrella over us when the sun went down. Their appetizers and stuff to dip with the flat bread was all really tasty and cleaned up the plate. I agree with Meg, the hummus had a lot of flavor to it. As for the main course, my boyfriend had the salmon and I had the trout, but I had no clue that the trout came with bones attached while the salmon came out filet style. Despite the bones, it was still a very tasty meal and I enjoyed the saffron rice. Overall I give the food 3 stars, but I'm bumping it up a notch for the cool outdoorsy ambiance this place has to offer. We'll definitely have to come back on another hot, lazy evening. read more

In my humble opinion, the Silk Road is one of the best restaurants in Walnut Creek! They have a cozy little restaurant on Main st. in downtown. I love their cozy little dining room, and they have a cozy little patio. well, not that little. The food and service is always up to par, and I've been there enough times, where I know that they are consistent!! The portions are really generous, and i love how they serve you up with bread, hummus, and another dipping sauce right when you sit down. I hope this restaurant becomes a staple for downtown!! I keep coming back to Silk Road for lunch simply because the food is really good, and the service is nice and friendly. I have tried a few items on the lunch menu such as the mousaka, and the kabob, and gyro lunch deals. Never have I been disappointed. And, they also have a really tasty pomagranate martini that is not too sweet yet not bitter. . . and the soft naan bread with homemade hummus is nice. I do find it interesting that as I enjoy my lunch each time, there is always a large number of passers by that will stop, look at the menu board, then look to see how many people are dining . . . and then they just walk away. . . ??? Hrm. We've had a couple of positive meals here but the latest was so non-positive that it's hard to ignore. Raining outside and rain dripping inside as well (on the covered patio). Gyros for which the lamb wasn't just cooked well, it was burnt, burnt, burnt. As in it chewed crunchy. That's unacceptable, flat out. There are reasons it could be overcooked but there's no reason to serve it to a customer. It's all just carved off a rotating cylinder of meat so it's not like properly cooked meat isn't available. I love eating at this place. The location is perfect and easy to get on North Main and is close to two parking garages. I really like the kabobs and the salmon is delicious. I love the flat bread (the size of a basketball) they serve at the beginning of every meal. The garlic dip for the bread is amazing! I can get full just by eating the bread and garlic dip. For the main dish, I usually get the chicken kabob which comes with a side of rice and salad. I'd recommend to sit outdoors - you get to enjoy the great Bay weather and food all at once. It is a little pricey, but this is a cute place for a date or with friends - so for a special occasion, this is a good eatery. read more

When we arrived to Silk Road, there was a lot of inconsistencies in the flatbread they brought out. This isn't a big deal in itself, since it was free, but some was crispy to the point of breaking and some was soggy and chewy. When the food itself came, it was subpar at best. Our lamb kabob came and it was boiled... which isn't an actual kabob. We asked the owner about it and he was pretty rude about it. We also got a calzone, that was somehow overdone but raw at the same time. The worst part was having the owner walk by later in the night and comment to an employee in Farsi (we speak Farsi) about how we complained about the lamb kabob but ate it anyway...as if we had a choice, since they didn't want to replace it. They did finally replace it, but once everyone had finished their meals. Too little, and too late. All in all, a place should either have stellar kabobs or accommodating service. Don't walk away, run. I ordered door dash from here a few days ago and I made a promise to myself I would spread the word. Shame on you Silk Road. I know your dirty little secret, it's your dolmas... they're not made at the store. They're canned. They also taste eerily similar to Trader Joe's canned dolmas. You seriously charge people for this? How do I know you ask? Well, when I opened my dolmas, they were submerged in oil. They were flat and salty, kind of savory but I couldn't taste the freshness of the grape leaf, the leaf was also incredibly soft and mushy. Had one bite, and that was more than enough for me. I also ordered the roasted veggie plate. There was no roast to it whatsoever, it was rubbery, and the color was pale yellow all around. It tasted precooked, frozen, then microwaved. I grew up with fresh Mediterranean food, what was sent to me was an incredible disrespect to the people and cultures of the Med who's food represents in a huge way who they are. To Ownership: if that's what you're serving at your place, pack your crap and get out of the food business. read more

Very pleased with the service. Attentive without being bothersome. Ordered the Filet Mignon And Koubideh which was cooked perfectly. Other entree was a Baby Spinach Salad with Filet Mignon add on. I came in for lunch today by myself. I got there about 1:15 PM. While there was still a table of 16 the rest of the restaurant was empty. The service was very slow and all of my food was cold. I have been coming here for YEARS with my mom and friends. Anytime I come to WC I try to bring people here. The menu is really good and they have an AMAZING happy hour menu with food and alcohol. The quality is always amazing and the same staff has been here for as long as I can remember. The server (I'm surprised & embarrassed I still don't know his name because I come here a lot LOL) is always providing excellent customer service. Some of my favorite meals here are the gyro pizza, chicken kabobs, and the salmon. And you get unlimited bread and dip with your order!! Happy hour is all day. Truly great service, the waiter was just outstanding. Always smiled always was happy to answer any questions, we had. I asked him what are his recommendations to order from menu, he told me to order mix beef and chicken kebabs, and they were so so so good. i really loved it. My friends ordered some pasta, and it was delicious as well, i am definitely going back to this place when i visit Walnut Creek. Dinner in May 2017 began with their four item appetizer, then a Roast Rack of Lamb Entree and a Filet Mignon-Chicken Kabab-Entree (Each for $23.95). Both Entrees were overcooked, low on flavor, and with little moisture. The "lamb" ribs were large for a lamb and was more likely those of a hogget or mutton. The lamb lacked tenderness. Medium-rare resulted in medium for the "lamb" and medium-well for the Filet. The Chicken lacked moisture and was set aside. The food portions are very large and you might consider sharing an entree of either item. A large serving of a leavened bread, a naan in Indian type cooking was served both before and with our meal. The service was normal and the servings of rice and vegetables were filling. I wonder if the restaurant pre-cooks items, as we had arrived before 6:00 PM, or we got some left overs from lunch? It would explain the lack of moisture and freshness of the meats. A bottle of Robert Hall Merlot ($48) added to the meal. This wine is listed for $20 on the Robert Hall website. The outside dinning area was pleasant for good weather. They do a brisk "to-go" business, and we saw families enjoying the restaurant which has a number of under $20 entrees. I love coming to Silk Road for a consistently tasty and traditionally good Mediterranean food. Silk Road feels like a homey restaurant that is comfortable and casual. They have typical kabobs, naan, and amazing garlicky/ olive-oily dips. Their happy hour is a great deal ($5 wines, house cocktails, and appetizers) and it lasts all night. You can enjoy your quality food inside or outside next to heaters. What I love is that they give you naan and their cucumber-olive oil dip when you sit and you won't leave feeling hungry.
