We have eaten at Silk Road over the years, and though we have also eaten at other Mediterranean restaurants as well, we always come back to Silk Road. The food is consistently good. The lamb kebab is cooked to perfection, and the chicken kebab is always moist. We also love the creamy hummus, and the baba ghanoush is tasty and complements the meals. Well, if you like good service, don't go to this place. The food is good. The burger is really good, BUT, the service is horrible!! Every time we go there (4 times), one of us always has to get up to pay the check because our waiter always seems to go off and talk to another waiter and ignores us for the last half of or meal. The moussaka is so yummy! The gyros are also great. The prices vary from inexpensive to expensive depending on what you get. The Happy hour is not great, but not horrible either. The happy hour is $5 per drink with a pretty limited drink menu, but you get free hummus to go along with it which is a plus. Also the patio is dog friendly! She and I met friends at 6 PM for dinner before a show. Wonderful warm evening and we sat outside. Service was fine. Pom cocktail sweet but OK. We both ordered the salmon which arrived in a reasonable time. The salmon was almost inedible. Very dry and tasteless. Normally I would send a meal like this back to the kitchen, however since we were guests and our friends seemed to enjoy their meals, I kept quiet. I have experienced this failure to properly cook food at many restaurants. Often the problem is there is no real cook and the stand-in is unable to do the job. Perhaps if we had shown up at 8 PM when a real cook was there, our salmon would have been crisp on the outside with moist fragrant flesh inside, I would not be writing this review and I might even go back there someday. read more

I ate here on my last Birthday with my best friend. She had a salad and I hate a Pita they were delicious! Also the bread and oil they give you to snack on were fantastic. Hi, I went for dinner the other night to Silk Road in Walnut Creek, and am appalled by their lack of safety and health for customers. I not longer want to eat here ever again. We were eating dinner, and a large gust of wind blew in these curtains which shattered about 8 glasses on the tables, and scattered glass all over everyone that was seated in their outside dining room. The owner, who was also the waiter serving us, barely even cared! He offered no one who was eating to recook their meals, even though I was afraid that pieces of glass had flown into my dinner. I could see pieces of glass all the way on the other side of the room. He just swept the glass underneath a table in the dining and into the sidewalk on the street. I couldn't believe my eyes. I do not trust their standards for consumers health and do not ever want to eat there again. read more

Over all not satisfying quality! I ordered Kabab Koubideh! The menu said it comes with rice, vegetables and fried tomato. When my dish came in I noticed there is no tomato. I asked the server if they missed it. He said tomato is extra and the menu I had was not updated version!!! Other than Italian, I could live off Greek food for the rest of the life. It is always so fresh, flavorful and somehow "light" feeling. Silk Road is no exception starting with the complementary homemade flat bread, tabbuleh and hummus. When warm, the flat bread is addictive and perfect to wrap up all their tasty spreads and dips. I split the grilled garden vegetables and smoked salmon plate with my mom and everything was so good! The vegetables were seasoned, topped with feta cheese and a creamy garlic dressing. The smoked salmon was perfect and placed on a bed of tzatziki sauce. You could make you own smoked salmon wraps with the warm flat bread...so that made lunch even better! My father ordered the gyros sandwich which usually are of a good size, however, the gyros sandwich here is like the Mexican version of a super burrito! It's HUGE, probably the size of a sumo wrestlers forearm. Instead of a pita, they wrap it in the flat bread as well. Service was attentive and I would suggest sitting on the patio if the weather is nice out! We will be back! read more

Outside of the happy hour (all day every day) which comes in with solid beverages (Did I mention $5 martinis?) they also have some solid dishes like their hummus and tabbouleh. Have been here several times for dinner. Has mostly been a positive experience. The pre meal flat bread is (usually) fresh/steaming hot and the dip is fantastic. I have had the gyro (for both lunch and dinner) and a pomegranate chicken (dinner). Both were fantastic. The gyro meat was perfect and definitely hit the spot. The chicken was also perfectly cooked and had some insanely good flavor. While tasty, the sides that came with the chicken seemed somewhat out of place. read more

Fantastic food at reasonable prices. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place when we were downtown after all of the other happy hours in the area had ended and we noticed that this place had $5 drinks all day. When we sat down we realized that the place is not a Chinese restaurant like we thought....I remember learning about the Silk Road in history class, but rather a Mediterranean place. The tabbouleh that they serve is delicious and we both got gyros which were yummy. We definitely had entree envy watching all of the food being delivered to other tables. I tried this place with a few friends Friday evening and it was great! The flatbread and spread they bring out are delicious. I tried the Pomegranate Chicken and it was cooked perfectly. The hummus is fresh and delicious and while the pita bread closely resembles naan, it's served warm and yummy and it's the perfect balance for the beyond scrumptious (and did I mention FRESH) hummus. It has a lovely outdoor seating area which is where we dined. Everyone that attended our table was so nice and accommodating. I ordered the lamb kabob and it was exceptional! The natural inclination is to compare Silk Road to Pomegranate two blocks away. It's a debate that even reached our home - my wife prefers Pomegranate and I enjoy Silk Road more. But since my wife does not have a yelp account, all she can do is stand helpless as I write about Silk Road. (Mr. Burns voice: Excellent!). The filet mignon cabob was very good, plus you get a nice starter while you wait. Taking advantage of the outdoor seating on a beautiful day is always a plus. I came here after reading all of the great reviews. I ordered the falafel sandwich, smoked salmon and the gyro calzone. I loved the gyro calzone! The meat was delicious and I would get it again. The falafel sandwich was a little too dry for me. Overall the food was good, but service could have been better! Took forever to get water when it wasn't busy in the restaurant and we had to ask multiple times for a water refill. Our server seemed like he was in a bad mood from the beginning, but at least our food was good. read more

Absolutely terrible. Horrible service and terrible food. Our pita bread was burnt to start off the meal. I ordered the pesto chicken and found out when they brought out my plate that they were out of pesto so the cook just made me something else. It would've been appropriate for them to ask me if I wanted something else since they didn't have what I wanted, but they clearly don't have the experience to do that, so they just made up my mind for me. That was a bummer since the meal was disgusting. My boyfriend ordered the pomegranate chicken, which was both burnt and dry. Positively disappointing experience. The Happy Hour menu is great, filling me up, even after a hard practice. I go for the hummus, which is only second to Oren's Hummus. (Sorry...) The Koubideh roll is great, a nice tangy sauce, ground beef wrapped in a warm pita bread. The waiters are great usually and making sure I get taken care of (or I'd end up eating the entire kitchen). The lunch specials are great for those looking for a deal or want to take home some leftovers. I usually go with Special number 2 or whichever one has the chicken kabob and gyro. Because hey, the half gyro is good for my lunch tomorrow. The sauce that everyone talks about... it's olive oil, vinegar, cucumber and tomatoes. Put that on top the hummus I talked about and you might wonder: "Why didn't I do this before?" The pita is usually nicely served with a few herbs sprinkled on top. I've only had the drinks once (I live in Alameda- so I probably drove... correction: I drove) and the Pom Martini is pretty good. If you're looking for a sweet lunch deal, then look no further than Silk Road! read more

Our 1st time here and what a delight! Took hubby out for some Birthday lunch and discovered this delicious place that was recommended. We ordered the combination appetizers, pomegranate martinis, he had the Lamb, I had the Greek Salad with chicken...everything...good and fresh. They also serve a dipping sauce with pita to start. What a lunch that would lead us into not requiring any dinner. We had a great time. Was looking for a place for a casual dinner with an East Coast visitor and , thanks to other yelp reviewers, decided to try Silk Road. Must say, it was hard to find since the sunshades in the front of the patio have no name on them at all. Going by the street number, found a sandwich board on the sidewalk and walked in. We were a little early and sat on the patio with the fountain gurgling. Service was prompt and we ordered their $5 pomegranate martinis - light, not sweet. The warm pita bread and herbed dipping sauce arrived next and was very flavorful. I had the tilapia, prepared with lemon caper sauce and my friend had the lamb shanks. We both asked for rice instead of potatoes and that was no problem. Generous portions with freshly steamed veggie medley and everything was delicious. In fact, we liked it so much, we brought 4 friends back with us the next night. We ordered a combo appetizer patter to share (dolmas, tabboleh, hummus, eggplant) and we wiped it clean with the continuous supply of warm pita. Our party ordered pork tenderloin(2), lamb kebabs, filet mignon and lamb shanks(2).. Everyone enjoyed their entrees (and those pom martinis). Food was served quickly and efficiently, water was topped off without asking, we lingered and were never rushed. Meal with tax, tip included, 2 rounds of martinis and appetizers, came to about $32 a person. This was a great find. They have an all day $5 menu with appetizers and drinks. You could easily make a meal out of appetizers and maybe a salad for very little cash and walk away quite happy. I am looking forward to going back and trying more of the menu. In addition to the usual Greek/Mediterranean entrees, they have pasta and pizzas, and entrée salads. Not fancy surroundings but very good food. Try it and you will be back. read more
