4 stars because the UNISEX bathroom was DISGUSTING, I got there right when they open at 11am and when I went to the bathroom, it looked liked it had not been cleaned in over a week. It's worse because it was a unisex bathroom!! What got me to Silk Road was that I was having a lunch meeting and did a search for a restaurant. I didn't care what kind of food, I just need it to be in a certain location in Walnut Creek and with good reviews. So I did a search and Silk Road came up. With the name "Silk Road", I would have never thought it was Greek/Mediterranean food. But I'm glad I tried it. I got one of their lunch specials where it had Gyro, Lulu Beef Kebab and Caesar Salad. It was all so good. The gyro was delicious, the meat was flavorful wrapped with lots of fresh veggies. The Lulu Beef Kebab was moist with lots of flavor. The Caesar salad was good too, the dressing was delicious. I'm looking forward to going here again but I have to remember not to use the bathroom!!! read more

Ive been to Silk Road once before and forgot to review...My bad! We were celebrating my son's 23rd birthday and decided to have dinner here at Silk Road. I made reservations, but it seemed unnecessary, when we arrived at 5:45p as the restaurant was pretty empty. My son, DH and myself were seated immediately on the enclosed porch and served their signature pita bread and tabbouleh..We devoured it and were server another round. DH and I ordered a bottle of Merlot, $30 for a a mediocre blend. Appetizers and select mixed drinks are on happy hour for $5 all day, every day. I digress...Probably the wine. Dh had the Salmon and I had the combo Kabob - the family had a variety of other things. The salmon - "great" The combo kabob - Delicious, I liked the basmati rice and even though I was full I kept picking! Did I mention that the server brought out a combo appetizer plate gratis when my parents arrived and then baklava for all at the end of the meal! We were looking for something different and we found it. Not only that, but we needed a dog friendly patio. Kinda small patio, but good enough. It was hot, and we didn't want to leave our little ewok in the car. Parking: Metered parking, free after 6pm. It's in downtown WC, so parking shouldn't be too bad. We were welcomed and seated. The flatbread and dip was really tasty. The dip consisted of minced garlic, chives, some tomato pieces, and herbs. Oh, and of course, the olive oil. A little bit too much olive oil, but still delicious. We ordered the Lamb and Chicken Kabob. They grilled it just right. The meat was tender and flavorful. It's served with long-grain rice and vegetables. We also ordered the Gyros Calzone, OMG the dough was like eating fresh baked bread. It had Freshly cut gyros with tomato, caramelize onion, Italian herb marinara and mozzarella cheese... mmm!!! The feta on top added a bit of saltyness. Served with olives, tomato pieces and cucumber. I'd say it was one of the best (non-burnt style) calzones I've had in a while. I guess, next time I'll try the hummus and pasta. Regarding service, I guess the managers read the yelp reviews, because we had excellent service from beginning to end. No complaints, they were helpful and cool to me. The HH menu here was too enticing to resist, I was trying to choose between SR and a tapas place but we ended up at SR .. I love the entrance to this restaurant, they have heat lamps inside, but a clear plastic shield so you can still see outside and enjoy the lighting. The metal chairs aren't the most comfortable but I don't think this is the type of restaurant where you sit for hours anyways. The All Day HH is only $5. They also have a pretty extensive regular menu with the typical Mediterranean spread of hummus, kebabs, it is slightly overpriced but that's what you get in WC. My friend and I went a little overboard and ordered every item on the HH menu, I tend to do this often as a foodie and an elite I feel as if it is my civic duty to eat as much food as humanly possible. We ordered the chicken kebabs, Koobideh Roll, grape leaves roll, hummus, and house smoked salmon. The complimentary appetizer sauce is delicious, my friend and I could not get enough of this sauce. If they sold this sauce I would have purchased it. It is tangy, fresh, and also has olive oil. I enjoyed the Koobideh Roll, hummus, and the smoked salmon. The smoked salmon is huge and I was surprised that they gave you so much. The chicken kebabs were very juicy, and even though I don't like chicken I would probably order these again. Grape leaves roll is passable. I would come here again for HH, but not for the regular menu because I think it is way overpriced. read more

You know one of these restaurants that you have walked past 100 times and never felt the inkling to go inside.... this was it. I came here on a hot sunny day because I didn't want to continue walking since my hunger level had gone from Hungry to Hangry. I cautiously walked in, sat down on their nice patio area, sat down kind of wondering if it was worth it until the server brought what looked like naan bread and this godly olive oil and spices mixes. I got excited. I ordered the beef skewer, with rice and salad... And simplicity met perfection. The food is so tasty. Definitely coming back for more. Makes good people watching location :). They had all day cocktail happy hour @ $5, I ordered the Manhattan. I must say, It was super tasty and had quiet the kick to it! Service was a wee bit slow, seems one guy was taking all the orders but we were not in any hurry. Ordered the Greek salad with Lamb. It was not long at all till the food arrived. I often wonder why Silk Road isn't more popular in downtown walnut creek. The food and service is always terrific, location perfect, and prices are very reasonable in comparison to other restaurants here. This thought was in my mind as I'm having lunch here by myself today. And no, I'm not bashful about having lunch by myself anymore. It's my time to myself without any interference. For the $14.95 lunch special you get fresh hummus, pita and tabbouleh for appetizer, chicken breast kabob as a side, a Greek beef wrap, and a healthy serving of baby greens. This is not the small portions you would expect for a lunch special but a full amount generous enough to fulfilll a hungry eater. But maybe this is why Silk Road has endured all these years while all along North Main, we've seen many turnovers in our restaurants. I love going to restaurants that are clearly family owned- they might not be perfect but the experience and customer service goes above and beyond! After our regular Tuesday night run club we wanted some good food and decided to check out this place. I called letting them know that a party of 10 is about to come to make sure they would have room for us. When we got there they had a table all set up for us. First they bring out fresh bread and this olive oil, balsamic, Parmesan cheese, cucumbers, and tomatoes dip- which is amazing! The owner was so sweet he even gave us a combination platter to try everything. Most people in our group got sandwiches which were huge! I got the koobideh kabobs, which was good but not the best kabobs I'd ever had. I would totally come back here, especially to give all the happy hour specials a try! read more

Great meal, great service. I had the filet mignon and chicken kabob. The serving size is large and both meats were good. The rice and veggies are also done well. You get a large piece of naan (or something similar) with a oil and vinegar mix with tomatoes and cucumber etc in it (I know this probably has a name) for you to dip the naan in. I've never been served naan like this before, it was a huge piece bigger than a plate (forgot to snap a pic, but look at the photos and you will see one). The waiter also dropped off a free plate of hummus for the table. What a nice touch! Everyone enjoyed their entrees and the overall experience. I was in between 4 and 5 stars on this, but we had a groupon, the service was great, and the portions were large. 5 stars. Enclosed outdoor seating is available and they have a full bar. read more

I recently hosted a work event at this restaurant. I worked closely with the owner and they over exceeded my expectations by far! They gave us the whole restaurant to ourselves. Ho hum. Another one of those places we all come across that are OK but nothing to really write home about. We sat out on their enclosed patio which is very pleasant. Started off with a flat coke. Sent it back. Ordered the falafel sandwich which was just OK. I've had much better. Ditto for my husband's gyro. Just an FYI, their sammies are huge and the bread is thick so any of their sandwiches could easily feed two people. They come as is, though, i.e., no sides. They bring out bread and an olive oil dip as soon as you sit down. Our waiter was very nice but didn't understand English very well which caused a bit of a mixup but it was quickly remedied. My wife and I have always enjoyed good Mediterranean food. However, the babaganoush we ordered was not recognizable as such. We each took a bite and sent it back. We also received "grilled" vegetables that were obviously steamed and sat atop a watery, vaguely middle eastern sauce. We picked at a little of this, but left the lion's share. The most disturbing thing was that the server never asked us why we didn't eat. Perhaps he didn't want to hear the obvious: that his food was inedible.
