How can anyone mess up a tuna melt? I'm laughing to myself, cause this is just too unbelievable. It's one of the simplest sandwiches to make, other than a PB&J. Two thick slices of un-melted cheese. Wait, thought the menu said tuna melt. Oh and my cherry coke, was actually the product Cherry Coke. You'd think I was actually expecting maraschino cherries and syrup in my cherry coke - bad on me. And come on Silver Diner, does anyone really like your tasteless coleslaw? Sure it's crunchy and obviously super fresh, but also tasteless. Please fix. I was here for a very sad occasion in early October, but Silver Diner really came through. My dear friend was leaving the country to return to their country for the perfect professional opportunity and wanted to go someplace for basic eggs, toast, bacon sort of American breakfast. We did not want to go somewhere in Baltimore but wanted a restaurant that was on the way to the airport (not BWI). I suggested this newer location for Silver Diner, and was told this ended up being the perfect spot. We were sat at the counter. They were so busy there on the weekend at lunch time, wow. It was really interesting watching how efficient the entire process was. The service was not as prompt as either of us would have liked, but we could see they were really in a tsunami of orders so we remained patient. It's diner food, and it did not disappoint. I'm not even big on diner food, and I think this is what I needed to absorb my melancholy and infinite sadness. I ordered a slice of their Smith Island cake to wrap up the meal. They rotate the offerings daily, weekly? Not sure, but this one had strange lemon frosting. Not my favorite, I prefer the usual chocolate. But it was fun sharing this very strange slice of cake with my friend. What a very uniquely American dessert to have on my friend's final day here. The bathrooms were so clean for it being so busy in the restaurant, so cool points for that, Silver Diner. We paid our bill, made our way through the busy diner and the madhouse that is parking in this shopping plaza, and continued our journey. A fitting goodbye. read more

I'm a long-time Silver Diner patron and have just recently started getting take-out or delivery. Today I ordered sausage and eggs scrambled with cheese along with my waffle. I didn't even look at my waffle because I was so distracted when I opened the container with my eggs and sausage. There are 2 slices of cheese sitting in the container NEXT TO the eggs. I should've just ordered 2 raw eggs and scrambled them myself since they were sending the cheese separately. This is a first for me and definitely not up to the standards I expect from SD or anyplace else for that matter. read more

DONT EAT HERE!! So I got the steak frites, ordered them medium-rare. So should be pink in the middle. Well there was about 1/8 of an inch that was brown. The rest was raw. I didn't have time to take a picture bc the waiter walked up and was like how's the food. I said not cooked. So he took it back. I cut an end off all 3 pieces. And tried to eat it. He took the meat back only, and brought it on a different plate. Said they will make you new. Well the same pieces came back with the corner I cut off missing. So after the food was served to me they took it back to the kitchen and put it back cooking. WHO ELSE ATE OFF FOOD AND THEY JUST PUT SAME HALF EATEN FOOD BACK TO COOK!! read more

We've been huge fans of the franchise for years, and the Columbia location lives up expectations. We always have great service, and the food is consistently good. We tend to go here for breakfasts, but their lunch/dinner options are also great. Our personal favorites: Avocado Toast, Chicken and Waffles, Chicken-fried steak and eggs, omelettes, burgers. Desserts are great as well, and this is one of the few places I've seen around here that has Smith Island Cake. Plus, they have an awesome rewards program: free food on your birthday, but each meal earns points towards discounts. read more

My waitress was nice but the reason I'm leaving a review is my food took very long to come out. I went with me my sister and my mom. Me and my sister both got grilled cheese and my mom got French toast. The restaurant was okay it was clean and I didn't see lots of crumbs anywhere. the main problem was how long our food took. The new building looks nice and they have music and TVs hanging up with retro footage. Looks like a cool diner. When my wife and I arrived there was 1 family being seated ahead of us. The hostess took them to be seated but did not come back right away. We waited a few minutes, and I saw her bringing out a booster seat for another table. Then she returned to greet us - we said 2 and a high chair and she looked at the seating chart and said "Hmmm...hmmm...let me go see if the table is clean." She went to look and came back and said, "Let me just clean off the table real quick." By the time we were seated we had been standing there for close to 10 minutes with a line now forming behind us. Really seemed like they needed a greeter, hostess, and a bus boy to take care of these tasks instead of 1 person. Our waitress was very nice and go to us right away. She brought our drinks and took our order. It arrived in a reasonable amount of time and everything was correct. I had pancakes, eggs, sausage and my wife had coconut gluten free pancakes, eggs, bacon. The food was good and the portions were generous. I asked for a second serving of coffee and figured they would top off my cup. Instead they brought out a whole new cup and new stirring spoon. This creates a lot of unnecessary dishes to be bussed and washed and seemed a bit wasteful. Also, the second coffee cup did not look very clean. As we were getting ready to leave and the cup looked dirty, I did not drink it. Free refills on coffee btw. The waitress was quick and friendly getting us the check. If not for the wait to be seated and the dirty dishes this could have been a 4 star review. read more

It had been years since our last visit to Silver Diner, but we used to go to the one in Laurel, MD frequently. We liked the classic diner fare, with some creative flourishes. This was our first visit to the Columbia location, and we were rather disappointed. It seems the whole chain has become obsessed with being trendy, and sadly has neglected the attentive service that was a hallmark of the diner tradition. They have prominent signs posted about their high-tech air purification systems (seriously?) and have plant-based alternatives to everything from meat to eggs to dairy. But what happened to attentive service? We had to ask specifically for milk or cream for coffee, then again for napkins, never got a teaspoon even though we had coffee and tea, and the ultimate insult was that my single cup of coffee ran dry, and I had to ask for a second cup that came so late in the meal that I didn't have time to finish it. When you have to pay $3.49 for a cup of coffee in an eatery that uses the word "diner", in my opinion your cup should never be allowed to get more than half empty. Why would you set up a table without a napkin? Or without a teaspoon, or at least bring one when you bring coffee and tea? How about offering cream when you bring the coffee, rather than waiting for the customer to ask you for it a few minutes later? To be fair, they did a lot of things right. The coffee and tea were served in large mugs. The coffee was very good. My omelette (Philly steak) was fair to good, and my wife raved about her French toast. The food came to our table quickly, and the waiter came by frequently - except for a long stretch when my coffee cup was empty. Its possible this was all due to a new inexperienced or inattentive waiter, and we all know that good servers are hard to find and keep lately. Based on recommendations from others we will probably give them another chance. But I would trade the best air filtration system in the world for attentive service any day of the week. read more

We have always had good experiences at Silver Diner, both with carry-out and dine-in options. They are extremely child-friendly, and we have been bringing our now-8-year-old for as long as we can remember. She loves the kids meals, including their Mac & Cheese, Spaghetti, and Cheeseburgers. I used to go to the Silver Diner for classic American comfort food at a good price. I haven't been in a while but took my daughter out for a meal and decided to go for comfort food. It isn't what to used to be. It's gone upscale and the menu has become very "descriptive". Everything is "healthy", "Organic", and "Non-GMO" and "Flexitarian". It's a nice environment, but quite expensive and not what I was expecting. It also wasn't particularly good. I ordered eggs and asked for them to be "hard fried, absolutely nothing moving in the middle, crispy around the edges". What I got was runny and flavorless. Maybe if I had gotten the whole-grain, organic, gluten free avocado toast, I would have had something to mop up the goo. read more

This past weekend I went to Silver Diner for a brunch for my friends birthday. I had been to other Silver Diners many times in the past, and was excited because I always have a good experience. I ordered the French toast with eggs and bacon and my 11-year-old cousin who was with me ordered the waffles and eggs, but didn't want the meat option because she's a vegetarian. I asked if I could have her bacon put on my plate instead. When our orders came, the bacon was on top of her eggs. I took the bacon and put it on my plate, but ultimately she did not want to eat the part of the eggs that touched the bacon. A few new seasonal specials as of June 2022. One of them, shrimp with pesto white beans was one of the tastiest entrees I've ever had at Silver Diner - seriously. I enjoyed every single bite. I just wish they had jumbo shrimp instead of the medium sized shrimp that they use. The chili is excellent too. I noticed that they now have a tomato bisque listed as well. My husband and I just had some breakfast here after dropping off our daughter at school. Our server was super sweet and nice. They socially distanced the customers so even though I sat indoor, I felt comfortable. I wanted to eat outside but they said it wasn't available. The food was delicious. I ordered turkey platter and cleaned off the plate. It was delicious and yet it tasted a little more healthier and not too heavy. Husband ordered philly steak omelette and French toast. He didn't leave a crumb. I tried his potatoes and it was really nicely cooked unlike some places where they just burn it to crisp. Next time we will bring our daughter here for dinner. read more

We've been here a few times since it opened, we were super excited that they have a halal chicken sandwich and Creekstone burger. The burger has always been on point, but the last time it wasn't as good since the sauce was lacking. The fries are delish too, I wish they were bottomless! I love old diners and was excited to eat here. I was very surprised with the many menu options. It is not the traditional "greasy spoon" diner in any way. I had a burger with Swiss cheese, bacon, fried egg, lettuce and tomato. I ordered my burger slightly pink and thought it could have been done a bit more. The lettuce was salad greens, which I much prefer over iceberg. The fries were wonderful. Hubs had the Philly and said it was very good except for the sautéed onions. Which he was able to remove. Normally he likes them. I ate the cole slaw that came with his dinner. I didn't care for it until I came across a cranberry. That made it so much better . I don't go to Silver Diner very often but I try a different location each time. This Silver Diner location looks like the others, although it seems a bit more spacious than the Tysons Corner location. The service at the Elkridge location was very attentive and polite. I tried only the limited-time specials on this visit and both the Cajun Salmon & Carolina Shrimp and the Churro Doughnuts Sundae were indulgent and gourmet in quality. The prices though seemed rather high for a diner, so meals here would not be a daily thing for me. read more

I've never been to any Silver Diner establishment before this. I order the hickory smoked cheddar bacon burger (might not be the actual name but it's something like that), medium and to-go. The menu did not say anything about tomatoes being on this burger. I'm not a fan of tomatoes. In fact, it was supposed to have BBQ sauce, bacon, cheddar cheese, mushrooms, caramelized onions, and greens. The food came out fast but the burger did not have what I expected it to have on it once I got home. It had a squirt of BBQ sauce, tomato, crispy string onions, the greens, cheese, and was well done - dry! I didn't even have mushrooms . Think gourmet meals for the every day person: there is a great twist on the food with awesome flavors and an emphasis on healthy, plant-based options as well as well-loved comfort food. The portions are large (I got the cauliflower sandwich). They have some awesome drinks and fun milkshakes too! I have been very hesitant about eating out in public again at sit-down restaurants; the enforcement of COVID policies here is very comforting. In addition to servers wearing masks and gloves, hand sanitizer offered, and seating spread out, there are also clear partitions between each booth above the seats. So I came here for brunch with my sister and were greeted immediately at the door by a very nice host who asked us if we had been here for, etc. Everything was lovely up until we sat down and waited over 5 minutes to finally be greeted by our server (Angelica?) It wasn't very busy and we were one of three other tables in that row of small booths. She came over lazily, once she noticed that we were a new table. She didn't give an eff lol. She took our drink orders and food order at the same time (we just had two waters with lemon) but we never even got our water until the food came out! When we asked her to bring us the drinks she huffed and left without a word to get them. I was kind of put off by her attitude but since I'm a patient person I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and say she was probably having a bad day. But that wasn't the worst part. Where my sister and I sat was close to this table in the back where the servers seem to be taking their breaks and Angelica was very loudly gossiping about another co-worker and talking about wanting to beat her up etc. Like seriously, volume control much? We felt SUPER uncomfortable with her now after hearing her talk like that and when she came to check on us, she very aggressively asked, "You want dessert?" Now, the churro waffles here are my favorite and I wanted to share it with my sis for the first time but we decided to just leave and come back for it another day. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch yesterday. I was hungry so I didn't read through entire menu but it was sleek and not overwhelming like some diners. Just ordered the shrimp and grits off the brunch insert. Very tasty dish. Not enough shrimp and grits were a little lumpy but good otherwise. BF inhaled his tuna melt and said he found his new favorite restaurant which just happened to be built on the exact spot of his last favorite. The Virgin Bloody Marys were excellent. This was my first time here and it was delicious! I ordered the chicken and pecan waffles with the guava mint mango mimosa. The chicken breast was perfectly cooked and the waffle was extremely soft and tasty. The waffle was served with warm syrup and for the chicken a cherry honey chipotle glaze. It was so good!!! The mimosa was refreshing and the mango was not overpowering (the way I like it). Service was excellent. Laquisha was our waitress and she was very friendly.
