I have always been a fan of Silver Diner. I was very excited to hear that they had opened one up close to where l live. I used to go to the one in Greenbelt Md. I was taking care of some business in the Columbia area. Stomach started to talk and l was definitely going to listen. I was traveling with my husband so we decided to stop by and they had a little bit of wait. So we decided to head to the counter/ Bar Our server Stephanie was very polite and very efficient. She waited on us right away. We first ordered the appetizer Which was the Avocado Toast. It was nice and crunchy and l am a huge fan of avocado. Next was the milkshake. That milkshake was something oh so good. It's hard to find something that can be very healthy and tasty but they have somehow accomplished it. Best Acai Banana milkshake ever! My Burger was cooked just right and l asked for it to be cooked medium well. The fries was good as well as the salad. Definitely plan on returning to this location and so glad that they are here. 6/7/19 Our first time here was not enjoyable. The waitress greeted us quickly and very helpful, but a tad to much. We ordered an appetizer - buffalo wings(pic below of menu). The wings were more roasted the fried. Sent them back due to a waitress suggestion to be fried 2 times. Wings came back but still not fried. They were crisp. The first batch of wings only had 9 wings instead of 10. Also, the wait for the appetizer the first time was long that they came out with the meal. The place was not that busy!! Our actual meals were good. The sweet potato fries were delicious. We sat at a booth directly across from the desert area(phone and cash register). Since the place was not busy the servers were standing around that area and where they pick up the orders. At one point 12 servers standing around talking loud enough to hear their conversations and watch me eat my meal. The manager finally moved the staff after talking to her. However, they ended up back at the same spot(8). One employee was complaining about the scheduled. I'll have to think hard about going back again. read more

I figured I would give this place a few months from opening to get settled in before trying it. That strategy seemed to work since the service was really on point. The staff was uniformly friendly and inviting, the restaurant was clean and welcoming, and I really enjoyed my experience. I ordered the standard burger and fries while my boyfriend had the chicken pot pie with a corn chowder soup for appetizer. We also split the smores milkshake. Everything was great! The pot pie was especially nice as it was obviously homemade with fresh chicken, vegetables, and freshly chopped herbs. My only real caveat is that this is very much a re-invented diner, as they say on the menu. If you're looking for a greasy spoon, this ain't the place. Think more farm fresh, locally sourced, vegan friendly than fresh out of the grease, and you'll know what you're in for. Whether that's good or bad is up to you. read more

We found the Diner early in the morning, on our way to the airport in DC. Three generations, six of us, and the experience could not have been better. The restaurant was clean, well-lit, very roomy seating for our party of six. The service was friendly and efficient. Each one of us ordered something different, and we all enjoyed our breakfasts. So happy to have a Silver Diner in Columbia!! They had a line to get a table but went by fast. We waited 10 minutes which was fast considering the number of people there. We got seated and our waiter was prompt and took our order! Our food came out pretty fast like in 10 minutes which again surprised because they were really busy on this day. The food was delicious as always! I loved my salmon sliders and my garlic spinach was outstanding. My wife's short rib sandwich was big and so good!! We were very happy! The waiter was very nice even though he was managing several tables. The floor leader was also super nice and helped us when our waiter was with another table! I was a big fan of the Silver Diner in Laurel and was pretty sad when they closed shop. So, I'm pretty happy now its back and even closer. First things first, the place is new. It looks new and it feels new which is nice. On the other hand, the food prep is also new and you can tell cuz the old SD was fast and these guys are just getting the hang of it. But its ok, I understand that comes with any new restaurant. Takes a bit of practice to get things running smoothly. I also appreciate that what they lacked in speed they made up for in hospitality which was top notch for us. As far as the food, the smokehouse burger (sans bacon) was pretty good. They use Creekstone beef (halal) which is a plus. Maybe a tad small but nicely cooked with a nice accompaniment of toppings including bbq sauce, mushrooms, and onion straws in lieu of bacon. The fries are decent. The ancient grain shrimp bowl was surprisingly good. Very filling, its much bigger than the picture. The shrimp is nicely seasoned and cooked. The quinoa and various veggies work well with the pesto vinaigrette. I'd get it again. The guava mint ginger ale was just ok. I liked the guava and I liked the mint but I didn't like the soda base. Too sweet for me. Overall I would definately go back and probably soon to try the rest of the menu. Eventually I'll return to my old staple, the caramel french toast. read more

Service was slow, French toast had no powered sugar, and bacon was like an inch long. One person at my table had normal amount of bacon but other person got two slices that didn't even add together to equal the length of the other persons. Overall mid at best. read more

I was seated at the bar for 11 minutes before anyone came to greet me. When the waitress greeted me all she did was hand me a menu. As I sat there and looked around many of the employees were just standing around. It took another 5 minutes for a cup of coffee, which came with a bonus piece of hair. Stuff like that happens no big deal..My second cup of coffee I felt like I was drinking my coffee out of a dirty mug. The coffee mugs are stained nothing a little bleach water or vinegar water can't fix but still not very appealing. I took one sip of my coffee then snapped the photo. I ordered a cob salad. It was ok. The eye appeal needs some improvement. All the ingredients were mashed together which was a slight turn off. The salad did not taste bad. It was an average tasting cob salad. This place does has some potential. Some minor changes could go a long way. While I was waiting on service I noticed many of the waitresses have really long nails to the point they were using their knuckles to place orders. The problem with that is, it's very inefficient. I noticed there was a bit of a struggle to select the correct button. If you allow long nails maybe you have a stylus for those ladies to use. It would definitely reduce the amount of time each one spends at the POS system. My bill came up to $15.88. As soon as she dropped the check I handed her a $20. She gave me back $4.00 change. I understand .12 is not a large amount of money however if they are keeping the change from my order it makes me think I am being hustled. And if they do that to several customers a day that adds up over time. Please Give me back all my change and let me decide what I want to leave for a tip. read more

I had been anticipating the opening of the Silver Diner as soon as the Mimis was demolished and the construction signs appeared. It has been open for several weeks now, and it has been packed on the weekend. This is my first opportunity. Columbia has no shortage of resturaunts, most of which are chains. I know of one place with breakfast that is not chain. Recently First Watch appeared, which is great for the Starbucks and Whole Foods crowd, not so much for the Aldi shoppers. Its breakfast is good, but not cheap and definitely not basics. Otherwise, we have all the traditional full service chains. The Silver Diner is a relief. So I am writing this note while waiting for breakfast. The discouraging element is the sterilized effort to make it feel like a classic diner. Nothing here like the gigantic pastry displays at places like the Blue Colony, or even the displays at the nearby chains. Another issue arose as I waited. One waitress walked past, turned, and responded in a loud voice to a question from well behind me, literally speaking over me. Then a young man who apparently brought a belt for a coworker snapped the belt less than two feet away, startlingly me with the loud crack! OK, diners are noisy places, but the space between your service section and the food window is not a playground. In fact, other customers may actually be able to hear and see what happens. I know it may be a slack time, and the seven or eight wait staff may be ready for the lunch rush, but maybe you can grab a coffee pot and check for empty cups like mine. My waiter stood six feet away and chatted with a guy sitting at the counter, whom everybody seemed to know. The food did come out, and I had chosen corned beef hash and eggs. The hash had not been made here (a disappointment, given the focus on fresh and local). Well, next time I will bring someone, and we will give it a chance to see if the training has taken. I miss Waffle House. Ok, whew, glad to have that off my chest! I was so excited as I saw this place being built over the last year. Finally, I though, some place to go for some good eggs and hash browns on the weekend! Silly me...don't be fooled like I was...despite the appearance and the name, this is NOT a diner!!!! I should have realized when I noticed they only opened for breakfast at 7am. What self-respecting diner opens that late? But seriously...when you look like a diner, and diner is in your name, who can blame me? Apparently this is a chain in the area, and they serve upscale "farm to table" type food. It was good, don't get me wrong, but so not what I wanted. I arrived on a Sunday morning and was not greeted by a friendly hostess LOL. She sort of made eye contact, but seemed very distracted and after seating the family in front of me was doing something for a while before she acknowledged me. I was seated at a booth - fair warning - this is also not a diner booth - it is for skinny folks and not people like me who enjoy their hash browns a little too much. I fit, but I'm actually not really that large, and it was a tight squeeze. My waitress was super friendly, and more than made up for the lackluster hostess. I wound up ordering a sausage scramble bowl thing. It was good, as was the side of strawberries, but the little pancakes that came with it were virtually inedible, and honestly the price was ridiculous. $14 or 15, plus $3 for coffee, so with tax and tip breakfast for one was over $20. Sorry, I'll stick with Jimmy Dean's Sausage and Gravy bowl and a starbucks and I'd have been just as happy. Bottom line - good food, expensive, mixed bag on service, and not a place I can legitimately give more than an A-ok rating too! read more

I'm a jersey girl so when I saw this diner being built near my job I was hopeful for some jersey diner goodness here in Maryland. I finally got my chance to visit yesterday for lunch and I was not disappointed. I came for a late lunch, around 2, no wait and was greeted and seated immediatly. The diner itself was sparkling clean. It had a quintessential diner feel but at that same time felt modern. I believe they also had a bar area but since it was a work lunch I didn't try for a better look. I ordered a bacon cheddar burger and my coworker opted for the banana stuffed french toast. My burger and fries was well cooked and filling. Had a bit too many onions for my taste but tasted great once I took them off. My coworker's french toast eggs and sausage looked AMAZING. That will definitely be on my list to try next time I come because there will be a next time. Staff was great too! Helpful, attentive and patient while we waited on a third coworker! read more

Having visited several Silver Diners, this would be the newest location I've experienced. The location is convenient to Columbia, Elkridge and Jessup. Perhaps being new and a Silver Diner explained the crowd but it may have had something to do with it being Veteran's Day! The parking lot was packed but seating was quick. A spacious interior able to accommodate couples to large groups, this location has a friendly and responsive staff and a full bar. Today, I was jonesing for an omelette. The Philly cheesesteak version is crammed full of ribeye meat, caramelized onions, and peppers. Adding a side of bacon and holding the fries and biscuit made this a great low-carb breakfast! Definitely check out this location of Silver Diner and make them feel welcome to the neighborhood. read more

Ordered Belgian waffles, eggs and sausage. When the waitress gave me the waffles her and I immediately noticed that the butter wasn't melting because the waffles were cold so she ordered me new waffles. The new waffles were still cold and extremely hard. So hard I couldn't cut into it with a fork or butter knife. The waffles were either sitting in the kitchen for a while or they cooked the waffles too long. Waffles are supposed to be crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. I was so disappointed that the cook didn't get waffles right that I left and will not be coming back. My Eggo frozen waffles come out better in my toaster. The sausage was undercooked and the eggs were over cooked. The wait for my food was about 20 minutes each time. The waitress, Keisha, also couldn't understand how the cook continuously messed up something so simple as waffles. This was the worst breakfast I ever had and as a result I will no longer patronize any Silver Diner. The cook needs to focus on cooking basic breakfast dishes. The food should always be served hot. I couldn't understand how the plate was hot but the food was cold. The coffee was good but by the time the waitress came back with the milk I asked for to put in my coffee the coffee was cold. It took her about 10 minutes just to get the milk for my coffee. read more

I am consistently pleased with the level of service that I receive from this well-run location, important as there are many other breakfast choices close by. I find Bob Evans hit or miss in the service department, and Eggspectation overpriced - with spotty service besides. Parking is good - though veterans know that to enter the Costco shopping center is to fight through the Teeming Millions of clamoring humanity. Behind the bar, Lakeisha is always pleasant, with a welcoming personality and speedy service to match! I often start my mornings at Silver Diner because of the uniform quality of the service experience, and the air filtration / anti-COVID measures are a big factor for me in my dining choices. The quality of the ingredients is always good, the food is always delivered promptly, and the morning coffee is just what I need to help me start my workday. Recommended! read more

Save yourself the trouble, make yourself a sandwich at home, go to RoFo, anything but this place. My husband and I went here for the first time about a week ago. Everything was delicious! Think of this spot as a "fancy" diner. Pricing is a bit higher than your usual diner, but worth it. We ordered the philly steak & cheese omelets with home fries, salted caramel french toast, and a banana french toast. Food was served in large portions, as most diners do. I had to take my french toast home lol. The staff was friendly and there was PLENTY of seating, and not just because it was mid day on a Thursday.
