What a great take on diner food! This place has the atmosphere and charm of an old diner, but takes the food to a new level. If you like farm to table comfort this is you place. I had the spare rib with mashed potatoes, baby broccoli and peas with roasted butternut squash. It was all very fresh and delicious. My bride had the warm vegetable salad with salmon. She was very pleased with it and said the salmon was cook perfectly. If I lived near Richmond, this would be a staple for us. The only negative was the service. The service we received here today was just as good as it always is, however, the food wasn't very good. The wings were tough and overcooked. The watermelon and shrimp salad was mediocre at best. The shrimp were mangled somehow, there was little dressing, the watermelon was tasteless, and for almost $20 you'd expect a bigger salad in general. Visited this restaurant for the first time while in the city. The restaurant looks packed but we were seated immediately upon walking in. I just knew it was going to be a 30+ minute wait but it wasn't. Large variety in the menu. I ordered a tropical mimosa as it was brunch time. It has a guava purée and it is so good. I also ordered Caramel French Toast with a side of eggs and chicken sausage. Very food. I wished that the caramel French toast had a little bit more caramel drizzle on it but that is just my personal preference. Or, you know, just go enjoy good food made with local ingredients. --Food: I ordered a burger and my fiancee ordered the caramel french toast. - Burger: I opted to choose the Build Your Own Burger and got a Medium-Well Beef burger with Cheddar, Onion Straws, and Bacon. It was cooked perfectly and had a lot of flavor. It came with fries which were actually quite delicious. I love pepper and salt on fries. They're thin cut fries so if you're expecting wedges you won't get them. There were plenty of options to customize your burger with including about a half dozen sauces and a dozen toppings, but I stuck to what I know and love. And love it I did. - Caramel French Toast: Drizzled with caramel sauce, powdered sugar, and served with syrup (in an adorable syrup pourer!). I had a bite of this as my fiancee ordered it, and it was pretty good. She said that after a while it was a bit sweet, but it makes sense given that caramel, powdered sugar, and syrup were on there. I also want to add that while a burger is my first choice normally at a diner, the rest of the menu looked delicious as well. I expect to return here and try at least the waffles and the steak and cheese. --Cost: Our bill came to $21. The BYOB was the majority of it as you pay $1 per topping plus the $9 burger price. It sounds like a lot, but it was worth it. And keep in mind that they stress local ingredients, so I feel more comfortable spending a little more on that. And also, others have mentioned that they donate a portion of their proceeds to the community, which is even better. --Atmosphere: There are personal jukeboxes on every table with adjustable volume, neon lighting (not overwhelming), and an overall spacious and friendly feel. The entire place also has a 70's theme going to it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought it was a really comfortable place to dine at. --Service: We went at 11:00 AM on a Saturday, which I imagine is one of the busier times to go. The wait staff was super nice and tentative, but admittedly the waits for food were a little long. We weren't in a rush so it didn't matter, and admittedly the seating and drinks came pretty quickly. --Overall: I really enjoyed Silver Diner. There are certainly more places that offer a more gourmet experience, but if you're after diner food that does it right and has just the right vibes, I'd highly suggest it here. I'd probably try coming at a less busy time, but if you're there with company, it probably doesn't matter. As far as Diners are concerned, Silver Diner gets a Gold in my book. read more

Not sure how long this chain has been in the area, but this visit here was my fist ever. I wanted breakfast and I didn't want any fast food sandwich, I had my mind set on an omelet. So here we are... The omelet, mimosa, and the service was awesome! The set up was super cute too. I immediately felt the warm spirits of the employees present too. There was no wait time to place a to go order. But while we waited for our meals, we decided to drink a mimosa. Soooo Yummmm! ! Our to go order was ready in no time. We drove about 10 mins before we started to eat. Every Sat night we eat dinner out. Sat Feb 11th we had dinner here. What an excellent choice. They are always busy, because the food is delicious and the service is excellent. My father is 93 years old and he love this place. We have been here before and each time its wonderful if we can get in. Keep up the good work Siver Diner. First of all, I want to applaud the folks at the top at Silver Diner for the measures they've taken during the current pandemic to keep their employees and customers safe. I had read a little about those efforts online, and that was why I went out of my way last night to have a sit-down dinner there while visiting Richmond instead of having something delivered to my hotel from some close-by restaurant. Having eaten at the Silver Diner back home a good many times, I knew what to expect from this one. Good service and good, moderately priced food. I arrived to a friendly greeting from the hostess and was seated immediately. (It was about 5:45 on a Sunday.) Ashley, my server, did a fine job. At the end of my meal, she even offered to send me off with a water (with lemon) to go, an offer I happily took her up on. For dinner, I had the Grilled Fresh Atlantic Salmon, which was delicious. As a carb-conscious diner, I wouldn't have minded if the portion of accompanying vegetables had been larger and the quantity of rice smaller. And here's a suggestion: How about adding sodium content to the nutrition info on the menu? (I hope someone at Silver Diner reads these things.) read more

Went here for brunch a few days ago. Waiter was polite and fit the vibe of the group I was apart of. I ordered the Country scrambler and we had Old bay wings as an appetizer. The old bay wings were great and had a good crunch paired with the two different dipping sauces it came with. This is not your "average" diner! Sure they serve all the diner classics you're use to that are smoothed, covered, and fried but that's just the beginning. If you crack open the menu you'll notice a ton of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options which is awesome! I strolled into the diner to grab something sweet and I was pleasantly surprised by the Churro waffle! This thing is a fried belgian waffle with cinnamon sugar and vanilla ice cream. Simply put it was pretty freaking delicious! The staff was courteous, attentive and kept me updated on the status of my order even calling m by my first name. First timer at Silver Diner! Went with my mom today who is visiting from out of town and was craving brunch! We enjoyed our meals and our server Amanda was friendly and helpful. I was excited to see a variety of vegan options and they were clearly marked and easy to find. I went with their vegan roasted veggie sandwich and it was SO GOOD! Seriously best veggie sandwich I've had. Had plenty of delicious veggies and totally satisfies. It comes with a refreshing spinach salad with pineapple. My mom tried their eggs Benedict and they easily replaced the ham with some spinach to make it vegetarian for her. We also shared the hibiscus, mango, soy milkshake and it was very tasty! I have been going to this place since it opened. This used to be the Innsbrook version of Cheers, where "everybody knows your name." There have been dramatic personnel changes in the last few years, possibly due to a terrible post-Covid economy. What exists today is not recognizable to regulars. Decades ago I remember the old "employees our greatest asset" disappearing as large companies (including ones I've worked for) became hyper-focused instead on the customer, with a genuine passion to serve. A couple of nights ago, I went out with the family to Silver Diner. This is one of our "go-to" spots when we want something good but don't want the run of the mill chain restaurant food. There is always something fresh and innovative on the menu and this night was not different. I had the fiery chicken sandwich, my son had he pancakes and bacon, and my wife had the flat iron sirloin. The fiery chicken sandwich was one of the newer entrees on the menu so I decided to give it a try. What I was expecting was a play on the Nashville Chicken Sandwich that keeps popping up on restaurant menus all over the place. What I got was something unexpected that packed flavor with out all of the accompanying heat. There were two chicken breasts on my sandwich as well as the pepper jack cheese which my server, Chauncey, recommended. He was right on point with the cheese selection. The cheese compliment the melding of flavors spectacularly. The heat was not overpowering by any means. I had the fries with my meal which really paired nicely with the sandwich and my other side was a mango slaw which was deliciousness is a bowl. It probably could have gone great on the sandwich but I was so blown away by my food that I kinda forgot that it was there until the end. We concluded our meal with some of their legendary shakes (if they aren't legendary then they should be). I had the campfire shake with blends all of the flavors of s'mores into a shake without tasting like you're eating molten marshmallows.
