I was very excited for my first visit to Silver Diner but I unfortunately was met with much disappointment. Last week I visited in the morning for a late breakfast. There was a bit of a wait and I was placed on the waitlist (10-15 min.). However I stated to notice that people who walked in after me and were also waiting were being seated before me! If I hadn't went back to the front to ask about my table I would have been waiting longer than the quoted time. When it came to my order, I ordered the buttermilk pancake platter with scrambled eggs and chicken sausage. When my pancakes came out they were not only tepid but difficult/tough to cut through. They didn't look anything like the other pancakes I saw come out at other tables around me. Since the restaurant was so busy I wasn't able to speak with anyone about this and it also took a long time for me to receive my order. Needless to say I was disappointed with my overall experience at Silver Diner in Navy Yard and not sure I'd return anytime soon. read more

We love diners everywhere we go and Silver Diner is a good DMV local option. Since adding one to Navy Yard, we've gone several times. We added our children to the free Kid's club. For signing up, you get a lanyard and a card to scan for every visit and a free birthday meal if you sign up at least a couple months before the birthdate. Then for every visit, you get a pin with a card that might be blank or might have a free treat. If you visit 5 times in 3 months, the sixth meal is free. We visit a lot but never enough to get that free sixth meal. Still a favorite restaurant for the fam. Great staff and ambiance! Sometimes they run out of the food we choose which is a bummer but they find ways to accommodate. We always spend too much here compared to other diners but gotta love Silver Diner! read more

Ho hummmmmm...,craving a shake? It's a standard breyer's ice cream mix. I was told the plant based ice cream shakes by #eclipse (especially minty grasshopper) is fantastic. And you can substitute regular ice cream. Perhaps next time? The apple pie ala mode was fresh and unstructured, with a dollop of plain breyers ice cream. Nothing fantastical here... I've had their food catered at a work event and delivered through a food app so thought to check them out for dine in. Dined in for a late brunch. Our wait for walk-in was not long, ~15 minutes. Service was good. Our server was very attentive and nice, checked on us constantly and made sure we had enough coffee and cream. When we first got there, it was packed, so it took a little while between when we ordered and got our food. But it wasn't a terribly long time. Food was good too. We tried the Apple pie French toast and corned beef hash. The apple pie French toast was good, a little on the sweeter side with a creamy style filling between slices and was topped with roasted apples and pomegranate seeds. It wasn't greasy like some French toast can be. The corned beef has was a finer hash and came with diced potatoes, biscuit and eggs your way (we chose over easy). The eggs were cooked correctly and the potatoes were cooked through. We got coffee, they serve compass coffee and make it nice and dark. They had run out of the mocha to make a full mocha cold brew shake, but were able to make small mocha shake. It supposed to be plant based, and was good thick shake. It did have an aftertaste that reminded me of soy milk. Price was pretty standard for brunch foods. I would say it is a good deal, since we've paid more for less in the area. Talk about an AWESOME night. My family and I came in for the sneak peak on Friday 9/30/22 and had an amazing time. We were greeted immediately and seated quickly with out reservation. Our waiter "EDWIN" was Phenomenal. It was only his 3rd day but he already had knowledge of the menu and offered GREAT choices. The menu is massive so be prepared to find the right items. I know I did. We ordered the following appetizer: Shrimp Quesadilla's - (Edwin's recommendation) Amazing, tasty and delicious. 5/5. Id get these again for sure and I don't usually like trying things. Cheese Fries - Really nicely seasoned. They were so good I forgot to get a picture. 5/5 Buffalo Wings- I would have liked them to be cooked a little harder but they were good as well. Its really hard to mess up wings. 4/5. I love the fact that they were saucy. As for the drinks, my wife ordered: Strawberry Hennessey and I believe the Tropical Side Car She wasn't a fan of the Strawberry Hennessey as it had some type of soda mixed in. I don't think she finished this but she LOVED the tropical side car. That was gone in a few minutes. She said we have to come back for this. Finally onto the meals: I ordered the french toast without the caramel. DELICOUS DELICIOUS DELICOUS! This is always a hit and a go to of mine at Silver Diner. It never misses. It comes with meat and eggs. The bacon was tasty as well. My wife also ordered the french toast. She was impressed as well. She had no idea it was so good and couldn't believe I didn't tell her about it. My daughter ordered a burger which seemed a little raw to me but they said that's typically how they make them. We also ordered the country fried steak. I must say I wasn't a fan and that it caught me off guard. The gravy wasn't to my liking but the potatoes and eggs were. I ate around the gravy. If I get this again I would leave off the gravy. Overall this place is GREAT! I will definitely be returning and I hope Edwin is still there. read more

Silver Diner is a restaurant that I grew up eating here in Maryland. This was my first time at this location and I enjoyed the appetizers and a steak and cheese sandwich. Every single thing we ordered was awesome, down to the Guava-Mint Ginger; a definite MUST try Bryan R. Was my server; super chill but super attentive. Everything he gently recommended delivered! - Chipotle Salmon and Shrimp; clearly a Chef creation the leeks, veggies, etc came together beautifully! - Red White and Blue French Toast; all of the taste of French toast but kind of light. Tip - this is not Sliver Social which is upstairs; you cannot order food the other restaurant. We did solver social last night and it was good too. - Outside Seating 'allegedly' closes at 9pm - A little pricy for a Diner, but this is not really a diner! Highly recommend this establishment!!My wife and I went to Silver Diner approximately two hours before attending a Nationals game on July 4th. They are conveniently located outside one of the entrances to the ballpark. My wife got The American Favorite two Amish Eggs, bacon, huge biscuit, fruit cup. It came with home fries but she wanted grits instead. My pick is the California Omelette. (See picture with ingredients) Despite being very busy before game time, service was exceptional. Brian did a nice job of being attentive. I believe he was new and confused about his area. He recovered nicely. Silver Diner had the feel and atmosphere you experience before a ballgame. Very busy and it seemed like the people's choice of dining. It has a relatively big space to accommodate lots of patrons. They handled the crowd well. There were several who showed up closer to game time that turned away because of the long line to check in. I'm not sure what it's like in the off-season or when the Nationals are on the road. I assume the would have regulars who dine there before going to work. P.S. Started the day here and ended the day with a To Go order we placed online. After a ballgame early afternoon we traveled to The National Mall for sightseeing all the monuments and memorials. Finished the day with the fireworks show. When returning to the hotel located near the Navy Yard, we decided to actually grab a late dinner. One of the few places that were open at 10:00pm on a holiday. I order breakfast and get uncooked potatoes, non-toasted bread, and the meat is typically either overcooked and uncooked. The service is great but the food is not. I ordered breakfast potatoes and received onions that look like that were for French onion soup in my potatoes (which I did not request) along with the potatoes not being cooked and food ice cold. There were 5 of us enjoying outdoor dining in naval yard area. Our food included shrimp and grits that was excellent, bison brunch item, corn beef hash, lumberjack breakfast and a kids meal with eggs and pancake. Food was excellent and service excellent except for one item. My pancakes were tasteless and overdone. There were three included with the lumberjack. I did try the kids meal pancake and it was excellent. This seems like a great place to go regardless of the time as they serve everything on the menu all the time. I was not going to let one item ruin a review. I will definitely go again and choose from the many choices on the menu. read more

Shaver C made our Saturday with exceptional service and attentiveness. I shared I wanted mostly Prosecco with a drop of OJ and he brought me a chilled glass with OJ on the side! I also shared how last time my fries were cold and limp so he made sure to bring them over as SOON as the kitchen churned out out. I'm continuously astounded at the quality of gluten free / vegetarian / vegan options... the cauliflower GF pita they serve with their hummus bowl is FABU !! Adding grilled shrimp to these salads is also game changer!! For the ancient grain shrimp bowl - Shavar NEVER made me feel like a difficult client when I swapped the feta for Goat cheese- and swapped the pest0 dressing for champagne vinaigrette :) Love this spot- I've also heard a rumor this location is the nicest one so far, with the best menu options... ! read more

Let me start off by saying the service was terrible. I placed an order for pick up that was supposed to be ready by 9:08. When I arrived I was interrupted by game traffic I had no idea that would be there. As I entered the I was greeted only to find out my order must of been picked up by a thief! The staffed offer to remake my food. Which I waited . Not sure how but my food was ice cold and unenjoyable. My spouse was highly upset that nothing was offered for the inconvenience but a dumb milkshake which I am allergic to milk. We went to silver diner after attending the holiday event across the street at the baseball stadium. This place was packed, and we were very surprised when they told us they could seat us in 5 minutes and we would have been fine waiting longer. I will say they are definitely trying to cram as many tables as possible into the restaurant, which is a downside for me. It was hard to get in and out of my chair without bumping into the next table, so the hostess moved our table a bit, but it honestly did nothing. The service was great, and the food was also good. I had a burger with fries, while my spouse had the eggs and turkey bacon off the all day breakfast menu. I knocked off a star because eating in cramped quarters is a minus for me. read more

Came for dinner on a Thursday night around 8pm and had a great meal! There are two host stands when you walk in (or at least their were when I was there). One for Silver Social upstairs and the other for Silver Diner downstairs. It can be a bit confusing but the hosts do a great job directing you. I planned to eat at the bar at Silver Diner but apparently there is only a physical bar you can sit/eat at upstairs at Silver Social. That being said both Silver Diner and Silver Social serve drinks. The host directed me towards the correct stand to check in at Silver Diner and graciously gave me a drink token to come back and check out Silver Social since there was an event there the night I came. A fun surprise and generous offer! Now onto Silver Diner, the hosts at the second stand greeted and seated me immediately and pointed out specials and recommended the best milkshakes. My server came over super quickly and I had my order in and food in front of me in no time, maybe 10 minutes! I had the pot pie which was AMAZING. Its not a traditional pot pie in that it doesn't come in a bowl covered with crust. Its more of a deconstructed pot pie in a huge bowl with biscuits/cornbread at the bottom and two large pie crust pieces on top. It was incredible! So rich and flavorful and the squash gives it a nice sweetness. I was genuinely stuffed after eating a quarter of it and took the rest home. It also came with a small house salad that was super delicious! My server checked on me at least 3 or 4 times in the half hour i was there. Super attentive and speedy! If you need a quick meal this is a great option and the atmosphere is very casual so you should feel free to hang around as well. I was too full to try any desserts but the milkshakes looked epic. We expected the place to be packed--as it usually is on game-days-- but despite the circumstances we received exceptional service from Raven with the red hair! She was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable of the wholeee menu. I came here for a quick dinner with my husband and had a wonderful experience. Great location literally across the street from the main entrance of Nats Stadium so very easy to get to when there's no game crowds. We were greeted and seated right away and I enjoyed how spacious and clean everything was. The menus have lots of options but I decided on the guava-mint ginger ale and ribeye Philly steak sandwich while my husband got the hibiscus mango plant-based shake and Beyond meat miso burger. The drinks came out quickly and I love that you get the milkshake cup on the side when you order a milkshake--bonus milkshake! Both drinks were tasty but definitely pricey so I was treating it like built in dessert. My philly steak was absolutely delicious! It came out piping hot on perfectly toasted bread with a side of chili sauce so you can control how much of a kick you want it to have. The fries were super salty but that didn't stop us from nearly eating all of them. Husband enjoyed his burger but didn't get much of the wasabi flavor until the last bite. Wait staff was extremely attentive and friendly and made it a joy to be there. A little pricey for diner food but the quality and service was top notch so it was worth it. I discovered Silver Diner after a Yelp Elite event at Silver Social, which is their upstairs 21+ upscale outdoor dining space. I got very interested in eating at Silver Diner after looking at their menu after the Elite event. We came back 2 weeks later to try their apple pie a la mode, as well as a cheeseburger with fries after visiting the nearby Enchant event. Both were excellent and very classic, well done meals! Their menu is extensive, and it was very hard to decide what to order. The burger was a good size and enough for both of us. Service was great and checked on us regularly. Food came out quickly also. The ambience was nice, not too loud and very family-oriented. Next time I think I'll have the chocolate cake, which looks decadent and delicious. Stopped here after a night at Enchant DC. We were immediately greeted and seated. Our waitress was astounding. I wish I would of gotten her name because she deserves all the accolades. She went over the menu, what everything meant, asked if we had any dietary restrictions and was just overall quite a joy. My medium rare steak frites was delicious.
