We stayed night and had dinner there. The GPS tried to take us to Brighton ski lift area. It's downhill from there. Pulling up the exterior looked disappointing as we envisioned an A-frame log cabin. But inside is really homey. The room was a little small but comfy. We used the portable heater for the bathroom when we showered. There was a wall electric heater. We had peppercorn steak for dinner on the outdoor patio just before sunset. Our awesome waiter put the personal gas heater on and we sat on sheep skins. We also had blankets so it was cozy and fun. Only 1 other couple was there as everyone else dined inside after we arrived. Then we had the patio to ourselves. It was out waiter's last night working and he made our experience top notch. It was like being invited into someone's house and being hosted pwesonally. We watched game 4 of world series in the den which more than made up for no TV in the room. Our waiter served us dessert and coffee in there as we lounged in our own private man cave. The only complaint is the wood log bed frame rubbed against the wall with any movement and floor was a little creaky but that's sorta expected in the country setting. First, its pricey, when basically they just serve sandwiches. $12.50 for a grilled cheese? Come on. I had the ribs, which were reasonably priced, but not that good. For slow cooked/smoked ribs they were super tough. I felt they were really overcooked. The bbq sauce was tangy, but not flavorful. Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Ambiance on a snowy early April was great, sitting next to a crackling wood fire with snowy peaks surrounding you outside the windows. Lived in Colorado for 3 years and know what it takes to do a mountain breakfast or brunch right. Had the seared trout with eggs, sourdough toast, and a buckwheat pancake served with real maple syrup. Wow... What a memorable meal I had at Silver Fork. I have a smile on my face just thinking about the incredible views, the fresh mountain air, the cozy atmosphere, and the delicious food. Oh... and of course the company too! Thank you Jeffrey S for taking me to this amazing little gem just a short drive from downtown SLC. We went for weekday breakfast during the off season and it felt like an escape from reality... We sat on the patio and there was a slight chill in the air but it was balanced out by the sun shining down on us. The leaves were changing color at the time, and it was so gorgeous, I could have spent the day there looking out in awe at the natural beauty. Service was spot on and food was delicious. I highly recommend the buckwheat pancakes... I cleaned my plate too soon to take advantage of the syrup tip I learned as I watched Jeffrey eat his sourdough pancake (ask him about that). I'll follow his lead next time though... and yes, there will be a next time. Silver Fork is worth the trip! read more

Great location aside, I actually wasn't really impressed by this place... (awkward silence.) The wait for our food took absolutely forever. I think I almost fainted from being so starved for nutrients. When our food finally did come, I practically inhaled it so I'm not exactly sure how good it was. I got the Portabello Mushroom and Provolone Panini and I'm fairly certain it was just okay... or "A-OK" as my 3-star rating says. On a positive note, I was really excited about the option to add gravy on my fries! So amazing! However, after getting through the first delicious layer of fries with gravy, the rest were plain and not very good. (Still... get the gravy. It's the only good decision you can make here. Maybe ask for extra gravy on the side. And then just cover your whole plate in gravy.) During our meal, I stole a envious glance at my friend's dish, and it looked downright drool-worthy. He got Elmo's Meat Loaf with Mashed Potatoes. Ahhh regrets. I do want to mention one more thing (as it directly relates to my lack of starage for this review), my friend ordered a salad instead of fries with his meal. When they asked him which type of salad he would like, he requested Cesar. Come to find out, there are no side Cesar salads and the Silver Fork Lodge charged him $9 for a full Cesar salad without notifying him ahead of time! I know what you're thinking, "didn't he notice it wasn't a side salad when it was placed in front of him?" Not a chance! The salad was small enough to be a generous-sized side. Every year on Mother's Day and my birthday, Hubby asks where I want to go for breakfast and/or dinner. The answer is always the same - Silver Fork, please. It's a bit of a drive up the canyon, unless you're already there, but so very worth it. Not just for the Silver Fork experience, either. It's a beautiful canyon! If you're lucky enough to visit in the summertime, do request a table outside - the view is breathtaking. The dozen or so hummingbird feeders positioned around the deck keep you entertained, if nothing else. In the colder months, they make it so nice to sit by the huge fireplace in their main dining room. Try the hot chocolate if you're not a coffee drinker. If you are like me, and regularly pray to the coffee gods, this place really knows how to do a cuppa coffee right! Main reason is, they serve Salt Lake Roasting Company coffee...ohhhhhh... Their breakfasts are arguably the best part of their menu. They offer Sourdough Flapjacks, Buckwheat Pancakes, Salmon Benedict, Trout & Eggs, cheddar grits, and some of the best Gigantic Cinnamon Rolls ever. 'Nuff said? I think so. Regarding the dinner menu, do not miss their Ginger Asparagus appetizer - wow! The Spinach Salad is served warm with all the standard complements, and great balsamic dressing! Entrees I've tried and loved include Chateaubriand with asparagus (perfectly cooked and seasoned), Shrimp & Grits (the cheddar ones previously mentioned - so fabulous!), and, not to sound boring, but the Meatloaf is surprisingly good. I've tried many of their fresh fish specials, and have yet to be even mildly disappointed. I love their mash & gravy, their veggies are always fresh and crisply cooked, and although I've never ordered them myself, Hubby loves their pastas and ribs...tasty! I have to sneak bites when he's momentarily distracted. They offer some items on their lunch menu that are unique to that meal, and I have yet to get there for lunch to try them. But I really really want to, and swear someday I will. Aside from the aforementioned cinnamon rolls, I don't know if they even serve dessert. It's never been much of an option for me at Silver Fork. The entree portion sizes are large, and you will not leave hungry, I assure you. Yes, you may have to wait a while for a table, and parking is sketchy. The service is friendly, and very laid-back...which is a kind way of saying they don't hurry through anything, including making you feel rushed at any point. I'm always a sucker for a good breakfast. Add in some great weather and scenery and you're well on your way towards getting a 5-star review. The Silver Fork Lodge does just that. Nothing better than a late Spring Sunday in the mountains, sitting outside eating breakfast. Got to the lodge around 11:30am and had about a 30 minute given it was Father's Day so that was to be expected. Luckily it was past the alcohol time restriction so away we went with bloody mary's and mimosas. Their mary mix was spicy and tasty. Only downside is the ridiculous one ounce liquor pour, but again that's not the restaurants fault. My table was outside and per a friend's recommendation, I started off with a freshly made cinnamon roll that was pretty darn good. Only wish there was more frosting. You can never have too much frosting, especially when you have a cup of coffee next to you. The food was great too. Ordered a classic All-American breakfast. Eggs (scrambled), hash browns (crispy), sourdough toast and most importantly off all bacon (crispy). Also got an extra side of bacon. While the food was good, the best part was that they listened when I requested my hash browns and bacon to be crispy because some places just brush those requests aside. My server was attentive, made sure we were comfortable but didn't hover around us constantly which was nice as well. Now that the weather is warming up I'm looking forward to eating up here again. It's just a great way to start off the weekend with a nice brunch. Well done! read more

Way up in the Wasatch Mountains back in Big Cottonwood Valley I found this rustic old restaurant and lodge. Very old school. You walk in and the wood ceilings and walls have definitely been stained with the smoke of the fireplace and cigarettes for decades. It's very old school. As I walked in I was asked where I would like to sit and wish directed to the patio to sit in the sunlight on a beautiful day. Incredibly beautiful blue skies looking across the river to the mountains on the other side with the golden aspens that were quickly losing their leaves. The views were stunning. I didn't think it would be so pretty out back but it actually was very very nice and warm and they have heat lamps at most of the tables in case it does get cool. My sister ordered an omelette and I ordered the corned beef hash. The portions were sizable the service was excellent I had Sara as our server. To the beautiful smile a great personality and was very efficient answered all our questions to our satisfaction. When my hash browns and potatoes arrived they make their own corn beef oh my gosh it is really a chunky portion. The pieces of meat just we're so tender and fell apart as you are eating at. & I had mine with two eggs on top which was sort of a tradition in my house but I was not prepared for how delicious it was. Based solely on the two dishes that were served to us I would say presentation and size for value were excellent. The quality of the food was beyond my expectation and I would absolutely return for this has had corned beef hash again the next time I go up the valley. read more

I came here with a couple girlfriends after church. One suggested it since it had a nice outdoor patio. We requested to be seated on the patio A.K.A. the reason we came, but they seated us inside instead. The waitress took a very long time to bring us waters and then again to take our order. She also told our pregnant friend, who ordered a latte, that she shouldn't be having caffeine (oh no she didn't!). So she ordered a decaf out of the guilt trip, which was watered down, and her grilled cheese with "caramelized" onions came out with raw ones. It's a bit of a hike to get to Silver Fork, but it's worth it. Not only is the drive ridiculously scenic, but so is the view from the restaurant. Our party of three arrived around 6:30 on Tuesday night. The main dining room was empty, but we had an (understandable) 15 minute wait for the patio. Grabbed a few drinks at the bar while we waited -- the staff was friendly & the drink options were solid. Lots of local craft beers that I can't find in the Midwest! We ordered the pita bread as an appetizer. Both spreads that game with the bread were awesome, especially the black bean puree. Love. I ordered the salmon special for dinner. That being said, the The Silver Fork Lodge deck area does not actually offer much in the way of view as the view is basically of the numerous full trees. There's not much to see otherwise. We've all seen trees before so, you know, they are big with leaves... The Silver Fork definitely owns the mountain get-away look and feel though. The staff is friendly, and service is on the quick side, but the food overall is middle of the road. We got seated right away and started with some drinks. The menu is pretty basic overall: ribs, steaks, chicken and fish. The ribs are advertised as being huge and they are, as they are beef ribs. The food seemed to come out pretty quickly, so I am guessing a lot of it was steam table action, which is fine, but the ribs overall were tough - but on par for beef ribs. I do not recall seeing them referred to as beef on the menu, just as a lot of meat. Prices were on the high side, which I suppose you should expect being where it is and all, but you're going to pay a lot for what you get. There is an inn there as well according to my buddy, but we didn't look into that side of it. All in all a decent place to stop if you just want a break from winding mountain roads. Parking is along the road with some front-in spots in front of the restaurant. read more

Attended the Carol Shelton wine and dinner pairing on January 4, 2016. Was a great event with plenty of amazing food and perfectly paired wines. Carol shared her love of vinification through educating us about each varietal, yeast, storage, etc for each wine. You can really tell that she loves what she does and damn is she GOOD at her job! The price point was just right (around $130 for two, includes tip) and the place was packed, sold out. The wait staff and manager were warm and friendly. Lots of chat about food and wine. We (my family and I) LOVE Silver Fork Restaurant. We were looking for a place to get us out of our house the other day (quarantine cabin fever) and decided to drive up the canyon, get some fresh air, see the sights and grab some dinner at Silver Fork. We called ahead and when we put in our order, they asked what kind of a car we would be driving so they could keep an eye out for us. A little while later, we pulled up out front, and they came running out with our food already to go. Great service. The food itself was (with one exception) fantastic! Two of my daughters ordered their Caprese sandwich and each one of them said it was great. My other daughter simply got a bacon, cheeseburger, also good. And my wife ordered a burger without bun (Gluten-free). I tried their Muffaletta sandwich. If was fantastic! It was huge! I could only eat half and I'm a pretty big eater. The one (and only) ding against their overall score was the fries that came with each of the sandwiches. It certainly wasn't a matter of quantity (they threw in tons!), but it was the quality that disappointed. I'm sure it was just the fact that we were the last customers of the day (they locked up right after bringing our meals out to the car for us). I think we simply got the last fries of the day. They were stale, hard and obviously had been under a warmer for a while. I'm sure, had we come earlier, the fries would have been fresher. O well, a small complaint for an otherwise great meal. Just stayed here for 5 days and had the best time! Such a cute and cozy lodge, and the food is GREAT. We had breakfast and dinner there. You get complimentary breakfast when you stay there, and it's all very hardy and delicious. They also have a free shuttle to solitude so it's so convenient! You just tell them when you're ready and they'll take you right then. And you just call them from the resort when you want to be picked up and they get there super quick. I saw other reviews mention the thin walls. That's true. We could hear the man in the room next to us snoring very loud at night. But other than that it's really awesome, so I would definitely recommend! read more

Great lodge style restaurant located on the way up a mountain! We headed over here after a long hike nearby and were famished by the time we made it there! It was pretty busy with skiers stopping in after a day on the slopes, so we waited about 20 minutes or so for a table. Service was excellent, food was good and the hot liquor drink selection was great! Between the five of us, we ordered most of the menu and were all pretty happy with our selections. I am going to leave aside the public policy issues of serving this much alcohol at an emporium about twenty feet away from the steep and frequently snowy road down Big Cottonwood Canyon. (I was not driving, and our driver was not drinking, but I can't imagine everybody who eats here, even in Utah, is so responsible.) We were here for an event, so the pressure on the kitchen was far greater than usual. Still, the vegetables were vegetable-y, the ceviche was excellent and so was the cobbler. It was a genuinely lovely time. Unfortunately, it's difficult for me to guess from this how the regular restaurant service is likely to be.
