We have been customers of SSMC Bel Air for as long as we can remember. We go pretty regularly. Yesterday, I was having lunch with my mom, when the manager came over and told us the waitress had noticed a piece of metal from one of their scrubbers on one of our plates. We had already eaten, and had the plates cleared. He did offer an apology, but no compensation whatsoever. Taking 1 of the sandwiches off the bill, a $10 gc, anything would have been great customer service. However, he did absolutely nothing. I also alerted him to the fact that the prices of our "half price" burgers" were incorrect on our bill, to which he replied "theres nothing I can do about that, it's stored in the computer like that automatically, every Wednesday." So, not only did he come over to tell us there was filthy metal on one of our plates and then do nothing about it, but he also wouldnt correct our bill. This is the last time we will go there. Such a huge disappointment. I'll be sure to let as many people as possible know, as there was no excuse for either situation. read more

Okay, we went back again about 3 weeks ago, and this time was less pleased with the experience... It was mid-day on a Sunday, and there were hardly any customers in the restaurant, and we sat at the bar (three of us). In between serving the few people that were present, the bartender simply went off to a corner booth to sit and talk with [other employees???] . I can only assume, since I didn't see the people there with her. As far as the food this trip, my boyfriend & his friend each ordered crab cakes, which they said were "okay." I ordered the bourbon glazed rotisserie chicken--which was niether glazed nor rotisserie. (((Think of ANY rotisserie chicken you've seen at ANY store.... they have a nice golden brown crispy skin, maybe some burnt edges from the cooking process.))) This chicken skin was still yellow, still floppy, like maybe they boiled it or steamed it, but definitely, in no way, shape or form, did they roast this or have it on any rotisserie. The "glaze"-- as they called it -- was merely a sauce brushed on to the chicken prior to serving it. A true "glaze" should have been baked onto the chicken itself. Surprisingly enough, the chicken was actually flavorful and tender, but it was definitely NOT what the menu claimed it was. I'm not sure who makes up these menus, or who checks the food quality, but they need to realize it's false advertising when they put such a misleading name to a menu item. Nothing grand, but it hit the spot when other places were closed. The ribs are tasty and the sides were decent enough (avoid the green beans though- very watery). I would choose Famous Dave's over this place though, if it came down to it. read more

Went for lunch today. It's a good local chain. We started with the crab pretzel which was great. Pretzel held up to the topping yet still moist. Good amount of cheese and crab. I had the boom boom shrimp which had a nice flavor. Other people had crab cakes and really enjoyed them. read more

Food is horrible. They cant even pour a beer without screwing it up. Beer was flat from the pour. I boxed up most of the food we ordered and took it home to the dog. I've been to the restaurant in Hunt Valley and now this one in Bel Air. The Hunt Valley restaurant seemed to be cleaner and had better service. I eat a lot of seafood, so it's safe to say that I am an expert in regard to most fish. Their rockfish was prepared horribly. It was very dry and bland and the sauce was separating and oily, when it was described as rich and creamy. And the crab dip was way too rich. My rockfish sauce had shrimp and crab in it - the shrimp were rubbery and the crab flavor was drowned out by the oily sauce. Overall, the meal was pretty horrible. The only redeeming quality was that my broccoli was warm and steamed properly. read more

I recently ate at this establishment and my meal started rather bad. my meal was cold, and my wife's meal over cooked as cold. I talked to the manager and they went above and beyond to make the food right . Food was great once they remade it. I would eat here again customer service was great! read more

Went here for my sisters birthday, the waiter was very rude. Then once we got our food the shrimp wasn't cooked at all. The manager came over had an attitude then remade her plate. Cool right welp I look down at mine and find a FLY IN MY FRIES!! I guess the kitchen thought they had killed it because the wing was broken so it couldn't fly. I stopped eating right away, the waiter came then seen it and didn't say anything besides took my plate away. I went right to the bathroom (which was nasty) and threw it back up. Everyone that worked there was just starring at my family laughing like they thought it was funny. You would think with the bill being over $200 you would get way better service than what we got. The food here is good. I used to meet clients here frequently for work, but we have since moved to other establishments. The service is spotty, albeit much better the last few times I was in. I have definitely noticed that the menu has shrunk significantly in the last couple of years, and the prices have gotten a little out of hand. It's not expensive for the occasional dinner out, but entertaining myself and three clients used to run ~$60-65 and now easily surpasses $80 with slower service. read more

So bad! Went on a Sunday after the Ravens game, dining room was empty. Party of 9 for a birthday. Everything took forever! Waitress could have cared less. Grandma's meatloaf was burnt to a crisp and then flipped over and covered in gravy so she wouldn't notice. She couldn't cut through it! She ordered something else but the waitress wasn't even going to take the meatloaf off! She begrudgingly said oh I guess I'll ask my manager. Just awful service and the manager didn't care at all. I came here with a group and I definitely did not pick the location. Even so the location was easy to find and we were able to locate the side entrance. We were seated quickly and the the waiter took our drink orders. Drinks came in a timely manner though the server did spill and drop a few things getting them to our table. After order food from the very busy and very loud menu, it took an extremely long time to get our food. Quite surprising since the place was empty. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich and fries which tasted like something that was previously frozen, fried and dipped in buffalo sauce. Condiments like butter, sour cream, salad dressing, and blue cheese dressing came in pre packaged containers, which reminds me more of drive in food than restaurant quality food. After eating our food it took forever to get our bill and run our credit cards. Overall, not someplace I would like to return to. read more

I regret coming here. I should have listen to the yelp review but I was really hungry. Despite being hungry I found the food difficult to eat. Had the sampler platter which came out lukewarm and the presentation left much to be desire. The food taste worse than most bar food I've had and definitely not acceptable for a restaurant. For the entree I had the sour beef and dumpling. This also came out cold and gelatinous (its suppose to be a soup), they didn't even care to heat it up for us. When I took the left over home and microwaved it the soup came out as a liquid consistence. The only positive experience was our server, she was nice. Its over priced for poor quality food. This place is great! Their menu is chalk full of items you just don't see everywhere. They love piling crab dip or just crab meat on everything, which if you love crabs, is awesome. Their crab pretzel is the best by far. It's huge, loaded with tons of crab dip and delicious! I could go on and on about their food but just stop in and give them a try. read more

WOW, could the service have been any worse. My wife and I stopped for a nice night out. From the time we sat down the server was slow and blamed the fact that they were very busy. Not true, there were many tables open and the bar was not full, but all the employees found time to laugh and joke around with each other. After one of the worst experiences that we have ever had, and we eat out a lot, my wife asked to speak to a manager. SURPRISE, they couldn't find one....are you kidding me?? If you value your money, and time, please find another place to go. This place is run by a bunch of kids that have no idea on how to serve correctly..(The one glass of wine that you order with dinner should be brought to the table while you are eating, not after you have finished! I can only give this place 4 stars due to mixed experiences, though I come here pretty often and have tried this place out since the late 90s. I like local, non-chain restaurants that offer something unique and this place almost fits the bill. The mining theme is pretty neat for ambience. Highs- if you are a regular on game day, the bar staff is very accommodating. They usually keep the beers and food flowing, have a raffle, have game day specials and sometimes comp your drinks. I also enjoy a lot of their menu, a good portion of it is unique and there's usually some new offerings every few months. Most were hits, though some were misses. The TV booths are nice, you can change the channel and watch the cable/satellite feed. Lows- I came here once for a double birthday party with 20 some people and the staff managed to screw up just about everybody's order in some form. Not only that, they did NOTHING special for the people whose birthdays it was- no complimentary dessert for the birthday people, balloons or anyone to even sing happy birthday. Even a simple card or a coupon would have gone a long way. I would not come here for a large group gathering for dinner. read more

I stopped dining here awhile back when they raised all their prices. It's been a few years, so I decided to check it out. I'm glad I did. Started with the crab pretzel. No complaints. My friend and I ordered the special, Boom Boom Shrimp Ceasars salad. Only $9 for a large salad with shrimp. I loved it. It was comparable to Steelefish's and Bone Fish Grille. I'll definitely be back to try out more of the daily specials. The regular prices are high, but apparently no one minds, cause the parking lot is packed. Our waitress, Alecia was awesome. Good place to go after work, happy hour, or a good lunch. Portions are huge and the atmosphere is really nice. Drink selection is great and service is always good. My only issue is its a little pricey to make it a recurring thing. It is pretty much just overpriced American style food and the menu doesn't have a lot of variety. read more

Dined here on a wednesday evening with a party of 10 and 2 kids under the age of 3. It was a birthday celebration dinner for someone in our group. Our waiter was excellent! He kept our drinks filled and even bought out a birthday dessert and sang. I had the jambalaya and it was delicious. Their menu has just recent changed and it was about time bc it was getting stale. My salad was about average, as were the sides that went with my husband's meal. His ribs were very tender but I found the sauce to be overly sweet, especially considering they also had a honey bbq option. Nothing special here. Stop by for lunch and was first seated in the bar area where the televisions apparently cannot be turned off at your table. The menu is interesting with plenty of signature special foods that looked great for my family, especially the burgers. I decided not to order the crab cakes because there is bread in them. Market price crab is expensive, and I want crab, not bread. The crab pretzel was loved, but we wanted the crab pretzel sticks which were only available for carry out (what?) and sold out. The mussels were also sold out. The shrimp was over-cooked and unseasoned, but the waitress, who was amazing, provided Old Bay upon request. The staff was all kind to my disabled son, who can be intimidating. I love the dimly lit atmosphere. The stuffed Rockfish went over very well. We also loved the sweat potatoes with cinnamon butter. Veggie platter was ok (again, overcooked). I recommend not going on a Sunday night if you want a full menu. read more

My family has been here a number of times in the past. Had a bad experience one evening when we came around 8:30 with 5 people and were told it would be 45 minutes before we could be seated. Friends, the restaurant was almost empty. I think they closed off all areas except for one. When I seemed perplexed over what the hostess said, she confirmed what she said. When I asked for a manager she disappeared and never came back. We left and I haven't returned since. I brought this up to the manager via phone call but he didn't seemed too concerned. He said he would send me a gift card in the mail. Three years later and I'm still waiting. Shame...nice place but too many other places to go in Bel Air that want my business. It was my first time here it looked interesting from the outside. Once inside it had a beautiful interior and friendly hostesses. I ordered a burger expecting it to be amazing in such a cool place. It was ok, I've had better and it almost seemed like it had been frozen. Service was mediocre, we weren't checked on once we got our food brought to us by another waitress. Our drinks had run out and we had finished our food and finally about 10 minutes later the waitress came to check on us and offer refills but we were ready to leave, the food had taken a little longer then expected and we were ready to get on the road. read more

Been there several times and really like the beer special buy one get one for a penny. The problem is its not a cold beer. Beer is served in a warm glass and the cheese steak there comes out dried out and stale since they let it sit under the warmer too long and forget about ever getting hot fries. Prompt efficient pleasant waiter service made our visit welcoming and comfortable. No wait for a table even though the restaurant side and bar side had full tables. We barely had time to taste the peach or strawberry sangria samples provided by the proprietor before we were whisked to a booth in the bar side. Every booth in the bar has a private TV and the speakers are in the overhead pendant light with your own controls. Every table can each watch their own preferred channel. We liked the tv while eating dinner but it can be very loud in the bar area. We tried the calamari and the crab pretzel. Very tasty. They prepare crab dip perfectly (it was atop a large soft pretzel topped with melted cheese). The calamari are a bit over spiced and heavily breaded. A lighter touch on the calamari would have been better, but we still liked it paired with the spicy sweet dip (it was like duck sauce with a hot spicy kick?). Try the seafood stuffed shells special. It's mostly stuffed with crabmeat and shrimp ($12) and covered in melted cheese. Better than getting a crab cake, which is pricier (market price). The buy one, get one for 1 cent house drink specials are a great deal with rail liquor and they do not skimp on the alcohol content. read more

Great food! I dine here on a regular basis. The food is always great, the service is hit or miss but never terrible. Go on Wednesday and get the half priced burger...what a deal! If you can get there before happy hours ends at 7 pm, you can get a burger and a beer for less than $10. The fajitas are also good and the crab cakes are some of the best around. read more
