We came back here recently after a number of years. What a great spot off 91! It's an old school Italian restaurant with a really friendly staff, good food, good prices and really good service. We opted to sit in the bar area and had a nice experience. We started off with Escarole and Beans which was a really nice dish. For our meals, my wife went with the Caesar salad and Pasta Fagioli. The Fagioli was really good! Nice flavor and a thick texture. I went with a chicken parm and eggplant with ziti off their 1971 menu; celebrating their opening in 1971. (They've been around for awhile...that says a lot!) It came with a good salad and plenty of bread! We ate the first plate of bread and they happily brought us more. Restaurants like this are really wonderful to have around. It's a solid location that's been around for years and serves some good, well prepared food with generous portions. Hadn't been to Figaro's in many years, but recently went to a function there. About 50 people attended. Kind of a somber occasion that I won't get into. In a nutshell, service was excellent, considering the crowd. Courses were served family style, starting with a really, really great salad, w two choices for dressing. Next courses were penne pasta in marinara sauce, housemade meatballs, sausage & peppers, and chicken francaise. Coffee, tea, and platters of assorted butter cookies followed. What a job they have done here and what a great way to finish the 2023 year. Wish I took pictures of the room, place was filled with hanging blinking lights and Christmas decorations. My cup of chowder was one of the most tasty bowls I have recently had if not all year. Chicken Franchise were spot on, the sauce was delicious. Do not know the spelling of my desert but had it one before out in the Boston area and was equally as good if not better. I traveled all the way from Maryland and happened to stumble into this place for the first time. The service was wonderful, with amazing servers. We originally were trying to eat at a Thai place 2 - 3 miles from here. They were only doing take-out. Our fall back was a kebab place, but we couldn't find them. We continued searching and noticed this place. Figaro's is in a free-standing building on the periphery of what used to be a mall (apparently). From their menu, it appears they have been here since the late 1970s! They had their own segment of the large mall plaza parking lot, so we easily found a space. This has a vibe that I've encountered in the northeast before - the long-standing local Italian place. That is in no way a criticism - there are a few places closer to home that lasted 30 years and then retired or opted to close and I wish they were still around like this place! They appeared to have a bar up front and a large dining room to one side (maybe another smaller on on the other side too?). We ate here on a Sunday evening and it was over half full. They had a reasonably varied menu and hit all the standard notes of this class of Italian place - the bread was good, the salad was good, etc. We both enjoyed our entrees. I managed to finish mine but my wife had some leftovers to-go. Our server was helpful and friendly. If I lived in the area, I could see becoming a regular here. read more

This was a quick stop for a drink Saturday night. Friend likes going here, I'd never been. It was rather quiet, considering its Christmas shopping season. We sat at a booth in the bar area. The white lights and Christmas decorations on white branches over head were a great touch. It's actually quite intimate there. Our server Kate was fabulous, more on her later on. My friend ordered drinks, I chose simple coconut rum and diet coke. I wanted a light something, but wasn't up for traditional appetizers. The menu is quite extensive and I've heard good things. I decided on the nights special soup. It was cream based chicken and for the life of me, I can't remember the name. I do know that first taste had me speechless. Sooo creamy, and flavorful...I tasted the cream, the sage, the thyme, pepper... so many notes of goodness. I did manage to take a picture. We had a fresh batch of warm rolls and butter. I made a comment about loving warm bread and butter and Kate mentioned their blue cheese dressing and how it went really well with the rolls. I asked for some...OH.MY.WORD! It was phenomenal. I'm a blue cheese dressing snob. It tasted so good, my friend was looking at me strange. It was utter, pure joy on my face. Beautiful large chunks of tangy blue cheese in creamy dressing. Many years have passed since I dined here last Ernie, the owner, runs a tight ship as the same high standard, quality and quantity are very much in evidence. Everything is super-sized at Figaro's from salad to dessert, there's no way you're leaving hungry and without a "Doggie Basket" forget the the "Bag". I was craving Zuppa di Pesce, when it arrived the thought ran through my mind, "I'm in trouble now" as I beheld the gargantuan size of the dish. Honestly, I hadn't remembered the portions being quite that large. Even the salad with house made Italian dressing was fresh, crisp and more than enough for two Zuppa di Pesce is a classic Italian dish; I've had it many times over the years but honestly I have to say this was the very best yet. Because there is such a variety of seafood with varying cook times, its a difficult menu item to do well but to do exceptionally well, thats near impossible. Today, I enjoyed the near impossible, with lobster, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams and calamari perfectly cooked to succulent perfection. The red sauce burst into a memorable mesmerizing symphony of harmoniusly balanced, perfectly cooked; sensually indulgent comingled flavors of delightfully vibrant fresh seafood. Most authentic Italian restaurants cook pasta al dente. I ordered my linguine al dente which means it arrived very al dente but as I lingered over the mountain of seafood discarding and cracking shells etc, it continued to cook slighty; soaking up the surrounding melange of flavors. When I finally dug in, well, talk about perfectly cooked pasta, it doesn't get any better than that..!!! I am here at the mothers Day brunch that costs $38! It is awful! Let's start with the 12 items they have. That's it 12! And their "carving" station is in the back and it's pork only. Dessert, where do I start? Could it be with the snack pack pudding and jello you get at the store! Or maybe the cakes, pies, and cupcakes they bought at Costco! And they also have pudding that is already put in the bowl for you. That way, everyone can breathe on it first, you!!! Everything in this restaurant seems to be bought elsewhere and served here. Ordered seafood chowder and I think there must have been a salt explosion in the kitchen - soup was inedible - told the waitress I couldn't eat it and she chuckled and ran away. Girlfriend ordered pasta fagioli soup - same - excess salt - I think sous chef must have had a palate breakdown. Oddly, even the outside of my girlfriend's water glass was salty - waitress said maybe something from dishwasher but didn't offer to replace. Entrees (chicken parm, clams linguine and Amaretto chicken) were acceptable but portions seem to be shrinking. Debatable if I will go back after this experience. read more

People need to stop expecting a real Italian meal from an American-Italian type restaurant. Figaro's falls into the bucket of American-Italian, and there's nothing wrong with that, as long as you accept it for being just that: American-Italian. That's not the issue with Figaro's. The problem with it is that there are good American-Italian restaurants and bad ones. This is the latter. It is dark, dank, and outdated. The food has taste, but no flavor. If you're hungry and looking for some food to fill your gullet, this will do --- though there are better options around. If you're looking for fare that will inspire, I'm afraid you're out of luck. This review is based on the Mother's Day brunch we went to yesterday. This is the brunch review only because our previous times at Figaro's have always been favorable. Always good quality and delicious meals. Yesterday was a little different. Yes the ambiance is 80's ish, but I'm ok with that because if the food is good, the service is good and the place is clean, then we're happy. Mother's Day brunch was ok. The actual buffet was decent, I wouldn't say great, but it was good. We enjoyed salad & rolls, pot roast, mashed potatoes, green beans, ziti, meatballs, chicken piccata and baked scrod. A few others options as well but nothing exceptional. What was super underwhelming was the dessert table. It was actually quite shocking, almost like a joke. Literally, there were styrofoam bowls with pudding already in them, cut up Costco pies and cakes, snack pack puddings (the kind you put in your kids lunchbox!) and individually wrapped pink wafer cookies. That dessert table looked like a couple of kids put it together. Sooo again, food was good and yes I'd go back for dinner on a regular day, but as for a holiday buffet, I think we'll pass. read more

We went to Figaro for the third time last night. The first two times were ok. Not great, but ok. After yesterday, however, we will NEVER go back. My husband is on a very restrictive diet of meal replacement shakes and about 2 cups of non starchy veggies per day. He ordered the side of spinach with garlic and olive oil, as he usually does. After finishing most of the dish, he found a cooked lady bug mixed into the spinach. We notified the waitress who quickly left with the dish. She came back a short time later and apologized and said the spinach was taken off the bill. My issue is that the (older) man who I think is the owner or manager, nor the other man who the waitress brought the dish to stopped by to say anything/apologize for there being a bug in his food. They stopped at just about every other table to say hi, how's the food etc, but didn't even glance our way. Based on this, even though the food is decent, I would never return to this restaurant and will not recommend it to anyone. read more

I read one reviewer said she wanted to go to he Olive Garden; that would have been better than this place. I went here with family for a birthday dinner. I knew I was in for trouble when their website decorates their plates with pineapple slices and maraschino cherries. But the reviews on yelp were mixed so I thought let's give it a try. Where do I even begin. The decor is tired and outdated. The carpet looks tired and like it hasn't been cleaned professionally in years. Upon arrival the bathroom was open. By the end of dinner it was closed most likely from a sewage leak. I had noticed water running on the floor from the toilet with my first visit. They must pride themselves for their old school service style; large water goblets of cut glass to resemble crystal and serving you your salad dressing in individual stainless steel mini gravy boats. This charm was squashed halfway through the meal when the waitress asked if we were done with our waters because this half empty restaurant was running out of glasses. Their menu is pretty basic. Your Italian classics. Pick your pasta, pick your sauce. I laugh that "on the lighter side" consists of hamburgers rather than health conscious choices. Nothing unique or special. Some items are served family style. We ordered a salad for the table which was just a big bowl of iceberg lettuce with some fancier mescaline greens thrown on top like garnish. Even my husband said the tomato tasted dirty. When I asked the waitress what type of meat was in the lasagne, assuming beef or veal or mixed she replied; "it's meat". Finding nothing else that looked appetizing I settled for the "meat" lasagne. Tasted like it had been frozen. Just gluey and falling apart. My wine by the glass was either awful or had come from an already open bottle. I knew I wasn't going to get much out of this experience and just ate the bread for substance. I could hear the words of Gordon Ramsey like a ghost commentating in my head with every minute that passed as if this place was on "Kitchen Nightmares". Maybe it should be.
