I spent such an enjoyable evening at Silvio's being treated like a valued friend, although it was my first time to partake of their delicious food. The three of us totally enjoyed our chosen meals and "oohed" and "aaahed" the entire time there. My Meatball Lasagna with "Nonna's" cheese filling and the homemade meatballs was perfection. I normally do not eat the bread could not help myself and devoured two slices! The desserts were unbelievably good! I must say, the staff were totally attentive without being intrusive and the owner, Bill, came to our table twice to check on us, making certain our visit met HIS expectations! The Arborio Rice balls were good. The red sauce was good. I got their special of the day advertised as a ziti chicken pasta with a garlic cream sauce. My food was okay but I could taste the garlic was burned, and I received 3 slices of chicken on my food. my wife got the salmon which was good but the risotto that came with it was cold. the replacement risotto was lukewarm, but the texture of it was very mushy and there were crunchy onions in it. my daughter got the kids portion of Alfredo. the Alfredo had a bitter taste to it and was not good. the bread that came out was cold as stone. the salad we ordered for $9 was lettuce with 3 slices of cucumber and 3 cherry tomatoes halved. the glass of wine my wife ordered was okay. we didn't leave there without the bill being a tad over $91. My wife wanted to celebrate our 35th anniversary with Italian food so we went to where the BEST is. We arrived at 5 and were seated at our favorite table and had a great meal of veal parmesan. The bread is SO good too. We don't always eat dessert when we go out, but Silvio's has incredible dessert. I can't bring myself to try another Italian restaurant since dining at Silvio's. I went here on a girls' night out. Small place but very welcoming. My friends and I all had something different and every one of us was very pleased with our choices. I had the seafood pasta. This review is positive for the service alone. The first veal parmigiana was burned on the bottom. The server replaced it in a prompt manner. The second one was seconds away from being burned. Neither were tender not well constituted. Tough thick and stringy. Not pounded. The side of spaghetti was a very large portion, a meal unto itself. Unfortunately it was also the most horrible restaurant spaghetti I have ever had. It was nothing but Oregano on top of oregano with a little tomato mixed in. What I took home I added salt, pepper and garlic to make it close to edible. I have not been to Italy but if that is how they do there sauce I will go somewhere else. I was in the restaurant business for 20 plus years and I have never been to a restaurant with a more incompetent hostess!!! We travel for a living and eat out often and there were at least 6 open tables with reservations for 730 Pm mind you I get it but this was 10 minutes before 7 and we probably would have spent a minimum of 200 for the three of us but you would rather have the tables empty than be courteous and off something (maybe an order to go)? Instead you walked around looking baffled! You had two people Sitting at a four top and two ladies in the middle of three two tops that could have been utilized for people waiting instead of turning them away BAD MANAGEMENT you are loosing money THE owner of this restaurant has been going into my yelp reviews and keeps commenting on every review I have ever done I have attempted to notify Yelp of this harassment and behavioral issues of this restaurants owner Then I mentioned this on my review and yelp removed it an this restaurant continues daily to harass me and there is no one at yelp to send an email so I am now contacting an attorney for harassment and will be pursuing this I am not sure why yelp is letting this happen and why this owner keeps doing what he's doing because he didn't agree with what I had to say in my review YELP HELP?????? Nice addition to our top choices in Italian cuisine. Just opened a week or two ago. Small, cozy ambience with just the right amount lighting. Started the meal with a bottle of Coppola Syrah. At $20 a bottle the value cannot be beat. Most entrees include a salad. Went with the Caesar salad. In all honesty, the salad was the weakest part of the meal. Lettuce was a little on the warm side and dressing was a little too oil based instead of creamy. Went with the shrimp garlic pasta. One of the best pasta dishes I've had. My daughter had the spaghetti and meatballs and wife had spaghetti with spicy sausage. One of the biggest and tastiest meatballs I've had. Overall Experience was excellent. Including the service. Meal for three and a bottle of wine was under $70. Such a great value and look forward to returning to try the calamari. Dessert look delicious but didn't have room. 10/28/17 This is an update to a previous review. Wow! Silvio's was perfection last night! Salad was very tasty . Went with a nice Coppola Pinot noir and it was just what I needed to wine down from a long work day. The bread is also very good. We shared homemade spaghetti and meatballs and it was delicious and stuffed. We could not pass up the dessert tray and went with the lemon cake and chocolate mousse cake. After reading numerous positive reviews, we took our granddaughter out to Silvio's for her 18th birthday. After being seated, I felt the entire dinner was rushed. Salads were served before appetizers , bread was served late and the entire dinner was done in an hour. Toasted ravioli appetizer was delicious but the dinner entrees were just mediocre - the Alfredo lacked cheese, the eggplant parm had an odd taste, the meatball lasagna portion was extremely small, and we were not asked what type of pasta we wanted with our Parms. I have been here two times prior to last night, and Silvio's never disappoints. This family owned business hits the mark every single time. The friendly owner will stop by at least once to thank you for coming in, and if you're lucky, you'll get his daughter Jackie (sorry if spelt wrong) as your waitress. You can't order anything wrong! I wish I had photos of our food, but it was eaten to quickly... from the seafood pasta to baked ziti to the sea bass special, you can't go wrong. The Melillo family has again opened a traditional style Italian restaurant in our city, and it is good! This time it is Bill Melillo, brother to Michele , who ran her popular venue on East Market till closing. Thankfully, the Italian gravy, succulent meatballs and Nonna's dressing are still served. There are a few menu changes, but the quality is spot on. On two recent visits we enjoyed the meatball and pasta dish- cappelini for me, smothered in homemade slow simmered "Italian gravy", a loving name for Marinara. The meatballs are moist, well seasoned and plump. Best in Louisville! My friend enjoyed them on a sandwich which arrived on a crisp Ciabatta bun with house chips. My husband enjoyed the seafood with pasta, a generous helping of mussels, shrimp and scallops in a wine sauce. Very reasonable for the quality and amount of seafood. We splurged and had their famous Italian Cream Cake. It is pricey at $10 per slice, but it is made with the finest ingredients and one helping easily feeds three! It's great with coffee for breakfast. The atmosphere is family. If you don't know them, you will. Bill and daughter Jaqui are there working, greeting, and listening to patrons. There is a nice bar which seats around 10, plus TVs playing the sports games ( hey, you're in KY) and good, inspired background music at a low level. Service is friendly and prompt. There has been a true need for this food and experience in St Matthews. You may find the parking tricky; there are some spots in the back lot, but many will fill the spots at the adjacent church. Reasonable wine selection and bottles not priced too high. Server efficient and pleasant. This restaurant would be great for date night or a cocktail and appetizer at the bar. My wife and I, and our daughter and son-in-law went to Silvio's for the first time last night to celebrate my 69th birthday. From the moment we walked in, it was more and more impressive. Although we are in Louisville, it felt like a warm, family, service oriented restaurant in the heart Italy. It was all about how we felt, were we doing ok, welcome, etc. The Chef, (owner?) even came to our table to talk! Our server was fantastic as well. Everyone made us feel at home. As sit and listened, there were so many regulars and other patrons being greeted the same way. It was great to know that they cared about everyone. The food was out of this world good. From the warm bread to start, to the salad, to our four entrees, to the cannolis ( given to me for my birthday) , everything was outstanding. The taste, portions, and the care built into the cooking , made us feel like we were the only ones there. Excellent food and atmosphere. You feel like family. A five star review is need here, even though pricing limits it to be a "special occasion" for us and many others. But, it's well worth the price to dine in Italy while you dine in Louisville. I have been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time now. However, a friend coming in town was finally the perfect excuse to try this St. Matthews gem. Marty, our waiter was lovely and very attentive. We stared with the calamari as well as a rice ball. Both were good, but the marinara dipping sauce was wonderful! We each got an order of the seafood pasta that was extremely large and very tasty. Although we were stuffed, we HAD to save room for dessert. Their selection of desserts did not disapoint. We got the limoncello cake (light and delightful) as well as the chocolate mouse cheesecake (Oh, My, Goodness!). The owners came over and spoke to us throughout the night checking on us, as they did with each table. Although we didn't need to alter any foods for allergies, I feel comfortable to say, they would accommodate the best they could. I can't wait to go back and try the ziti (as it looked wonderful on the next table over's plates) and the tiramisu. I came here after attending the Kentucky Derby this past Saturday and was thrilled with their service. I called them on our way from the track and they helped me determine what time we should set up our reservation for (including Derby traffic). They also let me know that I can let me know if we will be late and they will help us move our reservation to fit our schedule. The host was incredible, she was the same person who answered our call for a reservation and engaged in friendly conversation with us until she had to attend to other customers - and it wasn't awkward small talk either which was great. The waiter came out and got our orders for drinks and appetizers. We got bruschetta, an expresso martini, and a couple glasses of white and red wine. The drinks and appetizer came out quickly and was received well. I personally did not partake in the alcohol or the appetizer due to being gluten-free, but the company I was with really enjoyed it. Just a side note, they have plenty of gluten-free appetizers I just opted to not order one. We then ordered and the waiter was very knowledgeable about what would accommodate my diet. Although the restaurant did not have gluten-free pasta, I was thrilled to have several items I could pick on and had trouble picking between my options. I ended up getting the shrimp scampi with a side of risotto. It was absolutely delightful and I had no complaints about the meal. The best part was when the chef and owner came out to our table to check on how our meal was. He was so very friendly and treated us like family. He's such a joy to be around. Silvio's just might be my new favorite Italian restaurant in Louisville, KY! I will have to go back a second time before I decide for sure but Silvio's produced the best Italian meal I have enjoyed in a long time. The restaurant had been on my "list" for quite some time. It is located a short drive from our downtown home base. We visited on a Monday night and were pleasantly surprised from the start. I had scouted the menu prior to arriving and I knew - unless there was a house special that turned my head completely around - that I was headed for the Seafood Pasta. It wasn't long before we saw the owner/chef Silvio walking around the restaurant. He greeted us warmly and we had a fairly in depth conversation after he found out it was our first meal at his restaurant. He is loaded with personality and very open about his menu. Everything is scratch made with the exception of a couple of desserts. No cause for worry here because I was fairly certain I would not be ordering dessert! The Seafood Pasta was fabulous! I was sure that the picture I saw when scouting Silvio's had exaggerated the quantity of mussels in the dish but it did not! There is as much seafood as pasta. Perfecto! Silvio sent over one of his home made meatballs with some of the best marinara sauce I have had in ages. We had to remember to share the meatball evenly! It was that good. Two in our group ordered the baked ziti which they graciously allowed me to taste. It was super good. The portion was large enough for leftovers and it was properly doused in marinara and loaded with cheese. The decor is pleasant. Parking is ample. I would in the future make a reservation. We did not have a reservation thinking it was a Monday night and we probably wouldn't need it but the restaurant was starting to fill up as we dined. There appeared to be a lot of regulars and several groups stopping in which is always a good indicator of a successful and consistent restaurant. I called to complete a catering order. For a bake Ziti, the OWNER quoted me $150! And then called me out of my name. Very, very dissatisfied and disappointed with the service I just received over the phone. He always cut the conversation short and hung up the phone. When I called back up there for the manager, the lady let me know that it was the owner actually that I'd just spoke too. It's very disheartening for someone of his status to speak to a customer the way he did. If business is not doing well, I certainly can see why because his attitude, professionalism and lack of respect just lost my businesss and I hope others that read this will consider a different Italian restaurant other than Silvo's. My fiance' and myself went here in observation of her turning the big 3-0. We ordered mussels for an appetizer, that was a delicious decision as they were buttery and scrumptious. Additionally, the bread that was served was warm, smooth and soft. She ended up ordering the polenta which looked amazing and I ordered the ravioli. Where I would normally try something more adventurous, the ravioli did NOT disappoint. The copious amount of freshly ground parmesan cheese that they put on top most definitely added to the cheesy goodness. I believe that I may have been on the lucky side of things as I were were able to walk in without a reservation and immediately getting seated, I would HIGHLY recommend getting a reservation. read more
